Hey all,
I just recently switched to a new rom on my I9001 plus and now I cannot get apps to install to my ext. Ad card. Even when I use an apps2as app they only end up in the internal usb drive.
Is there any way to fix this? My internal usb is full now and I cannot make use of my 32 gig ext for app installs..
Thanks.
Richie

This whole internal storage thing is confusing me a bit. Coming from the Galaxy S, all I had was my SD card. I felt safe being able to copy it and make backups.
I also like to have all my application specific data on the card incase I need to use it in another device.
Is there a way to make the Note default to using external SD? Pro's Cons?
Thanks for any help sorting this out.
I too am wondering this. Looks like it specifies the internal storage as USB storage vs SD card but some apps don't see it that way.
The internal memmory has two partitions, the system one(internal memmory 2gb) and the storage one(usb storage about 11gb) the apps install only system data on the system partition and all the user data is saved in the usb storage

I've just bought my i9000, rooted it and flashed latest CM9 nightly. I've installed some games that are big (300mb+ each) and now I am getting kinda low both on Internal Storage (500mb) and on the Usb storage (1.1GB) (moved some of these apps to the "internal sdcard"). If I buy an external sdcard 8GB Class 10 can I make an ext4 partition on it, would it be recognized in the rom so I can use that sdcard for apps only ?
Ty in advance
I think it should work with apps2sd on every phone with every cm.

Hi, I'm having this issue with my I9000.
Any JB with different kernels makes the internal SD eventually be unmounted in my I9000.
When install a JB ROM the phone works very well but suddenly, the internal SD (phone's SD) is always unmounted with every reboot.
In CWM both SD are mounted and read without any problem. With ICS ROMs the phone works flawlessly.
In my case, the external SD is functioning as expected.(I have a 32 GB micro sd)
The installation language is Spahish - Spain.
No matter which method of cleaning and wiping I use, the result is the same.
Also, starting from GB stock firmware (JVU) flashed with Odin, followed by installing the nightly Cianogen CM10.1 and finally flashing the desired JB ROM works.
I tested Helly Bean, Slim Bean, C-ROM Mix and Baked Blacjbean7 obtaining the same behaviour.
USB Mounting does not "see" the internal SD. After many tries connecting and disconnecting of the PC, the internal SD is eventually mounted.
If I start the phone in "safe mode" (long pressing in menu reboot option), the internal SD is mounting.
Important: I'm restoring around 54 apk using Titanium backup (games, applications and utilities) in every case. I did not tested the ROMs without these restorations. ¿Could be an applications that is causing this issue?
I read some post with very similar situations but without any response.
¿Any idea on what is going on or a recommendation?
Thanks for helping and answering.
Being more precise, the internal storage that is not recognized is the USB storage, not the Internal Storage. Remember that the Galaxy S 8 Gb of internal SD is divided into Internal Storage and USB storage.
A quick way to test if your phone is reading USB storage is using any File Manager to see if SDCARD is opening.
AW: [Q] I9000 Internal SD unmounts when using JB ROMs
Can you please open /storage/sdcard0/ and tell if you have the same issues there? Because it could be a symlink problem.

Found something.
I have a 32 Gb external micro SD. If I turn on the phone without the micro SD in place, the USB storage mount OK.
I think that the JB ROMs o perhaps JB Kernels around cannot handle BIGs micro SD ¿a bug?, maybe.
I never have had problems with my micro SD even more, ICS ROMs flash and work OK with it installed.
Has someone a 32 Gb uSD to test?
Phone with 4Gb uSD works without problems.
32 Gb uSD is perfectly identified by a PC and no error is detected.
Phone with 32 Gb uSD shows the problem again....
Ok. The problem was a corrupted clockworkmod folder/files con the external SD. Reformating the SD solve the problem.
Thanks for your help.
Best Regards.

It depends from app to app. some app are coded that way that they cannot be moved from phone to usb like banking app and few other apps. some games are automatically downloaded to your usb memory and some apps can be moved as well.
please specify which app you are not able to move and i'll check that.
did you find any solution? because I am unable to move too. the button says move to usb storage. but usb storage is not there.

What do you mean usb storage is not there? What exactly are you trying to do?

Sorry sorry it says move to sd card. But there's no sd card inserted. There should be a dedicated button to move to the 16 gb storage.
The 16gb in built storage is referred to as sd card.

That's the problem. I cannot use this option. It says unable to move app. Not enough storage space.

So are you saying when first installing the app it's saying no storage space or when you're transferring it to sd card there's not enough space? Two different things.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
when I want to transfer the app then it says no space. I have 8 gb free in storage and around 1 gb internal memory free
What rom are you on? If on jb, try transferring the app to sd using application manager, see if that works. If it still complains it's because you have residual odex files left over from previous uninstall or other expired data files and there are threads on how to remove them.

I have stock jb rom 4.1.2
I am trying using application manager, the app2sd also diverts to the default app manager.
In the application manager, what's the status of the move to sd card button? Is it greyed out or click able? If is greyed out, you will need to use root and TB to move then to sd card.
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
it's clickable, I can click it but it gives error
I am having the same problem.
I did a fresh factory reset (STOCK JB 4.1.2) and format USB Storage because my Note was becoming unreasonably slow. Needless to say, it's lightning fast now, but as I begin installing apps and internal memory starts decreasing, I want to move apps to the internal SD card (USB Storage) which currently has 11gb free. When trying to move I get "Unable to move app. Not enough storage space". How is this possible?
I do NOT want to use an external SD Card, as the phone starts getting slow whenever anything is downloading to it. Even when updating apps it starts getting stupidly slow to do ANYTHING! Rooting is also NOT an option.
I'm incluing some images to give a better perspective.
I am currently using CM 10...when i connect my phone to my pc, it shows up my sd card but doesnot detect the internal storage...however, i restored to stock to check this and the internal memory showed up in the pc...i need help because i want to transfer files to internal memory but i dont want to remove CM 10
The Only Internal Memory is 90MB So Not big
Internal memory is /emmc so try looking for a way to mount that

You can use a program called "Android commander" It can push and pull files form your root directory, so be careful with what you do.
As far as i know, twrp gives you the option of mounting seperate partitions. Don't know about cwm. So if you don't wanna download another program, you can do that. And ofcourse there's always 'adb push'.
Cwm too gives you the option to mount internal/external storage. You have to go in 'mount and storage' then select the last option (I don't remember how it's called) and then you select to mount internal storage and you plug your USB cable.
