After i upgraded my galaxy tab wifi version with gingerbread using EU firmware, the "Wifi Turn On/Off" is behaving erractically. The Wifi won't turn off on trying to do so and will stay in status "Turning Off" all the time. After restarting the device, it will reboot with the WiFi turned on.
I tried factory reset and that sorted out the problem, till i configured the wifi connection and the problem returened back.
I any body else facing the same problem? Is it a problem with the firmware?

I could have written that no P1000.
p1010 wifi problem I can not help. sorry...
This could be linked to the known DHCP lease problem.
Check the DHCP setting's on your router and ensure that the lease duration is something valid i.e. not infinity; set the lease duration of DHCP on your router to *anything* less than infinity.

There is no exact option of lease time in the router, but something called 'Idle Time' was there which had a value of zero, which i have changed to 999. Even after that the problem still exists.
Hi all,
i do have exact the same problem. I can not set a DHCP lease time on my router.
Does anoyone have a solution for this Problem with the Galaxy Tab P1010?

same issiu here..
I am using a GT-P1010 and am on the KPI firmware. I have been having intermittent connectivity issues which may or may not be related to what is being discussed here. Nevertheless I am going to try the following the next time my Wi-Fi drops out. You might want to do the same. While these may different issues, it might be worth a shot. Here is some information I have recently found.
Delete dhcp_list
Set Static IP
Basically (as mentioned by another poster above) these Tab's have issues when routers assign IP addresses using DHCP. Apparently the TAB retains the last known assigned IP address and try's to use it all the time. If your device was asleep and another device on your network grabbed that IP address, you are in for issues.
The dhcp_list file contains that information and if deleted the TAB will attempt to actually acquire a new IP address (lease) from your router. You must be rooted to delete that file.
The other option its to set a static IP. This will work great as long as you don't travel to another location and need to connect to another access point. If you do, you will need to return to the DHCP method of IP acquisition and your problems could return if you stay on that network long enough.
Lastly as discussed in some of the other forum posts from my second link above (great information in that entire thread btw) you can access your router and set it to assign the same IP address to your tab all the time. This will affectively insure that no other devices are able to acquire that address and you should be good from that point forward. As all routers are different I will not provide details of this method but it IS the BEST of all three options in my opinion. Basically you will need the mac address of your tab and it's current (working) IP address. Then set your router to assign that IP address to that MAC address.
Please post back if any of this works. Thanks!
Hi all.
I have set the IP Address in the Tab to a fix value and reserved the same IP Address in the Router for the TAB.
This does not solve the problem.
I can use WiFi perfectly. But when i try to disconnect my device by shutting down WiFi the device is stuck. The Button for WiFi is described as off, but the Color is green. And i am not able to reconnect to WiFi.
After rebooting the device it starts with WiFi turned on. In most attempts after rebooting i am able to turn WiFi Off.

Yeah .. sounds like a totally different issue then mine. Sorry it didn't work for you.
I solved the problem by downgrading to Froyo 2.2.1. Now WiFi works properly. The only problem is now, that i can not find all Apps in the Google Market.
And i am not able to activate the Screen Lock functions. I can set a PIN for unlocking but nothing happens.....

Hi.
I have the same problem, but it only happens when the wifi is open and has no password. If the wifi has password, it works fine.
My ROM is GINGERBREAD.XXKPG, 2.3.6.
Bye.

I have had my Tab for 2 weeks now.
At home I had no problem to connect to my WiFi network for 1 week: then suddenly the Tab would not connect and would remain stuck on “getting IP address…”.
I changed from WPA to WEP to WPA2 PSK with no luck
But if I go to a static IP, then I have no problem to connect.
On my office “public” WiFi network, exactly the same problem: it worked for a week and then bingo stuck on “getting IP address…”. Again going to static IP solved the connection problem.
My question is: how do you delete a network from the list? It seems to me that the Tab keeps an IP address in memory and if ever that address is taken by another device, it gets stuck!
Any advice would be appreciated.
I had this exact same issue on the same day I bought my Sprint Galaxy Tab (11/14). I did a hard reset that afternoon, and I haven't experienced the issue since. I'd already had all of my apps downloaded, and settings tweaked, so hard resetting was kind of annoying. I hope this doesn't come up again.
Yep sounds familiar, my Thomson Speedtouch 780i runs on a old firmware which gives me same issue with the Tab, had to run with no security. If you decide to run with no security turn off broadcasting..or update firmware/router..
My router is quite recent and has the latest firmware.
All my toys (iPad, Dell Streak, HD2 together with 3 PCs) connect without any problem.
The Tab had no problem either for a week.
Then for unknown reason no way to connect unless using a static IP.
And as I have not found a way to delete the network in memory (short of doing a hard reset)I am stuck.
And now same problem arises with office netxork:-(
Yeah just do a factory reset in privacy settings i think

My Tab is doing the same thing now. I can't do a hard reset....is there another solution?
Ugh, I have the same issue! Had it for 2 days and all of the sudden it's stuck on Getting IP address from... Resetting to factory defaults was depressing. I wish there was another way!
It also happened to me when I was on vacation at my relatives home. The tab would work for a day or two and then be stuck at that message. I had no issues with doing a factory reset as it was still new. But then I started using the static IP trick and that worked. Now I'm back at home and I don't have this issue at all. Been using it for a week with my wifi and all is well.
Nothing was actually working: restarting the router, forgetting the network, creating the network manually, changing the authentication method, etc.
I'm sure its was an issue with the router at my relatives home, but still why was my Nexus one and Laptop connecting with no problem???
For those who are having the problem, use a static IP for the time being, you don't have to reset.
-Gus
I ended up switching to Channel 1 on the router at home, and haven't had any problems since. Chose Channel 1 after running WiFi Analyzer.
having this same problem. I've messed with WEP vis WPA and tried static IP. Using a verizon fios router. any help?
Bah, it happened again! Now I really dont want to reset
Same issue here ...
I can get WIFI at Starbucks but not at home ( Open-WRT on linksys )
I wonder if it depends on SIM card being inserted?
Mine is a Verizon FioS router as well, at work. Can get on fine at home or anywhere else. My iPad had a problem here forgetting the network but I could at least reconnect. This is doing exactly like you guys.
I wouldn't even care that much except when I'm inside the office I can only pull in Edge data. Ugh.
I had to change wireless settings on my Linksys - most changes were to disable some fanny things like "afterburner" - and setup wap2 for security to have a stable wifi.
I've had the same problem with my TMobile Galaxy Tab. All I do is to turn off Wifi in the Settings app, then turn it on again. I am usually able to snarf an IP address straight away after that.
It also helps to just turn the device on and then off again. it boots so fast that it isn't too annoying.
I had similar problem at home. My DHCP server had wrong time set. After setting the time on DHCP server correctly everything is back to normal.
i hav a tab on tmobile love it not sure if i had the same issuse as u guys tho the issuse i had was it would work without any problems im talkin about wifi then the next day the wifi doesnt want to lock onto the wifi it would search then drop to start serchin again , now wat i learned is sum apps require wifi to work because high data at the same time it changes sumthing in ur wifi settings after using the app the first time which would require u to master reset the device to resolve the issue the program that was doin it for me was frostwire
same here
my version of the same problem appeared when i changed the static IP of my home router (AVM Fritz!Box 7170). before that i always got a dynamic IP through DHCP on my galaxy tab.
After changing the router IP i only could connect with a static IP.
if i use a different WIFI network instead, DHCP is working as expected.
in my opinion the problem is with the firmware storing the network settings and with no possibility of deleting it completely. a hard reset cannot be the solution...
does anybody of you know if this problem occurs on other froyo-based devices also? is there a way of deleting network settings in a working way?
Had the same problem, EU TAB white Stock 2.2 rooted spot connecting to my main Wifi but connects to 3 or 4 other dhcp APs.
Have a htc Desire whit stock 2.2 + rooted and never had that problem.
In the end i hardreset Tab and no problems 1week and counting.
EDIT
FUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Happen again... im not going to hardreset again, im looking for a more permanent solution
Had the same problem. I have the Verizon FIOS router. The solution is actually easy. Just drain the battery of the Tab. Charge it to full and turn the Tab on. I think the Tab really "forgets" the old network after this kind of restart. No need to reset your Tab to the factory settings.
I just bought my Samsung galaxy S i9000 and the only problem i have is with the WI-fi,it works fine until i reset the router(just power on and off), then it starts doing obtaining "IP adress from..." and it wont connect ever again .The only option in this case is to reset the phone to factory setting and this is frustrating.
I noticed that if i turn off the wi-fi on the phone first and after that reset the router and then turn on again the wi-fi on the phone works. The problem is sometimes i forget turning it off from the phone or if a power cut happens it will do the same thing until reseted to the factory settings again and of course i lose all the applications.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Try to change the wi-fi name to something smaller. Also if you use password for the wi-fi try to deactivate it to see if it is the same problem.I feel that it has something to do with the decreption used in the router...maybe i m wrong..
I will try the password removal to see if the problem persists.
Nop, it doesn't work either way, i called a neighbor to come by with his nokia N8 and it seems to work fine for him.
By the way my IP changes every time if i power on and off the router i think the problem might come from there since it says "obtaining Ip adress from...", but then again for nokia N8 works just fine, and i even renamed and reseted the router to different settings and still doesn't work so my guess is that the phone has a problem.
Your router changes IP every time you restart it? Can you explain a little...are you being re-issued a dynamic IP from your ISP thats refreshes when you reset your router? Otherwise I would think even after resetting your router it would default to 192.168.1.0 or .0.0.
Either way it sounds like a DHCP problem...where the router is not properly issuing an IP address to the phone, or your phone has cached old settings and isn't being able to pick up an IP after your router changes IP.
Yea Kops the Ip is dynamic and refreshes every time i reset the router

I would look into seeing if your router is capable of NAT (as most routers are). This would enable a private network in the 192.168.x.x range, and might solve the issue of it not picking up the new IP if the issue is with caching the old one. As far as clearing any cache related to wifi, I'm not exactly sure where that would be found. You could try going into your Settings > Wireless & Network > Wifi settings and forgetting the network. Doing this and letting it re-discover it may help.
May I ask why you are resetting your router? I see no need for it to happen very often. Also, just let me clarify....if you successfully join the wifi, and leave the wifi range...when you return, will it connect again? Does the non-connection only happen after resetting the router?
Have you tried to use static IP for your phone instead?

This might be worth a shot if you could get NAT working, to eliminate the "obtaining IP address" from the DHCP... but if the IP is constantly refreshing and changing, I'm not sure it would do any good.
OK, I know some people are gonna think I'm absolutely nuts (and who knows, maybe I am ), but my wi-fi was working just fine last night. No issues, connection problems, no nothing. Then I went to bed.
When I woke up this morning, I turned on my Note but began having major wi-fi issues. Whenever I try to connect via wi-fi, I keep getting the message "Obtaining IP address...", yet my Note never obtains one. I've been fiddling around all day so I can get on the Net, but to no avail.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? I'm running stock ROM and made zero changes to my Note & router. Everything is exactly the same prior to when I went to bed last night.
Has anything similar happened to anyone else??
Thanks in advance, guys.
even i faced the same issue whole of yesterday...i thought it was some problem with the rom and changed back to the stock rom..but of no use...but today morning its working fine...seems wierd
its again stuck up in loop....connected..obtaing ip address..connecting

wifi suxks
I had this issue, it would reboot TWlauncher, then work again.
Happens all the time. Use static IP as a temporary fix, it won't lose IP addresss again.
I have the same issue's, it seems to be an Android issue my previous Gnex had the same and i thought the wifi chip was broken or something.
After using the Note for 2 weeks on a random day i didnt have wifi and it had the same symptoms it could not find an ip adress. Now i simply use 3g at home.
I think it has something to do with either the wifi password encryption (wep, wpa, wpa2 etc) i have wep. Or the ip adress that is dynamic and not static.
Whats your wifi encryption?

Tried this already. I can connect, but now the wi-fi connection gets dropped for some unexplained reason every 5-10 mins or so, and I continually have to reconnect, which is extremely annoying. And that's not the only thing. Whenever I'm connected and using data, my laptop somehow loses its connection. And I know that my Note is the culprit because as soon as I disconnect it, my laptop immediately reconnects. Weird.
What makes this so frustrating is that I can't pinpoint the source of the problem. Literally everything on my phone and my laptop are exactly the same as before. I could understand if I was running a new ROM or installed a bunch of new apps/software on my devices, but that just isn't the case here.
I also tried resetting my router, but that's just a temporary fix (at least in my case). I've already had to reset it 3 times in the past 24 hours, and I don't look forward to the prospect of having to do this on a regular basis. Heck, I shouldn't have to!
Anyone know why Android (or the Note) does this? I still love my Note, but this wi-fi issue is fast becoming a nuisance.
Maybe your laptop and the Gnote are trying to obtain the same static IP from the router? (Check to see you ain't asking for the same IP!).
What does the router think is connected when you have both Gnote and laptop on?
Also, if that fails try the following.
1. Change Wifi channel
2. Remove the wpa+wpa2 option and just stick with wpa or wpa2 only.
3. Use a different subnet e.g 192.168.0.x to 192.168.1.x
4. Check the DHCP lease time is short enough (say 10 hrs).
5. Check you are allowing enough connections to be given DHCP IP's
Let me know how it works out.
I tried resetting my router but did not help, since my first post in this thread i flashed imilka's aosp v07 rom and now i'm back on wifi very weird.
My previous rom whas the chinese ics repack (no wifi at home) and the one before whas stock LA6 after a week use the wifi dropped out on that rom.
I still have a less secure wep encryption, but happy for now with the imilka rom.

a simple solution is to add your phones mac address to router whitelist. ..
I have same issue here. Whenever i turn-on my wifi, it scans public wifi even-though i have my own wifi with me. When im in public places and there's this public wifi, i cant connect. rather searching for another public wifi or and error message occur obtaining IP address.
my temporary solution is to disconnect from the connected address and reconnect the device again. Basically it helps
I swear, this wi-fi business is driving me nuts. Presently I can connect using a static IP, but even though I do connect and the icon shows a strong signal, I now have a new problem...I can't use the freakin internet!! I keep getting the message that I have 'No connection'.
Any solution to this? I have similar issue on my Note2 and Wifi works only on Stock Rom.

Not a router issue...
This is not a router issue, it is due to the wifi modem in you phone being messed up, have you tried flashing a mmodem fix for your phone? alternatively it could be due to file permissions.

First, you resurected a year old thread.
Second, you claim flashing a modem.img or baseband will fix wifi. Baseband AS NOTHING to do with wifi, the wifi firmware is (unless i'm mistaken) in /system/etc/wifi.
The problems op describes are hardware fault...
True.. Its drivers are in the kernel. Thus modem has nothing to do with it.
Hello
since installing 3.4 I have had issues with this rom however none so serious I jumped ship however I have problems with conecting to my home wifi which is causing pain...
I have set up wifi on my note as dhcp and my netgear router is also set to give ip address via dhcp however the note will only connect sometimes otherwise the message 'obtaing ip address' is shown then the connection drops to remembered and then Im back on 3G. I have tried various fixes including re-flashing the rom providing a static ip address. I have this issue with any dhcp network the note just will not connect all the time...

It happen even on stock to me mate. What I do is turn off wifi,go to browser and navigate to any site(yeah with wifi turned off still and data network off),when it gives you error turn on wifi and refresh the page.
I know its irritating but I have no solution and it works for me
still trying to find a solution to this. setting wifi sleep policy to Never seems to help I also deleted the dhcp_list file which forces the note to reconnect from scratch each time it connects to a known network rather than selecting it from the list. still not a full fix. seems to be a samsung thing rather than rom based. do the modem downloads available control the wifi functions or are they just for radio 3g etc as I will try a different modem to see if that helps.....

Hi all,
I just had a s6500d (brand new) as a gift. All is working well except for the Wifi.
My router is set up with WPA/WPA2 security, DHCP and a fixed lease time of 60 minutes.
When connecting the mini 2 to my network, it immediately receives an IP. Signal is strong (as I'm right next to my router/wifi station).
However, the first try (f.e. opening a website in the browser) works, then it just stops. However, wifi is still connected!
If I set a static ip in the advanced wifi settings of the phone, it is resolved. But this hardly is a solution, only a workaround.
I've just read that multiple samsungs have this issue, but I can't find any solution.
So do you know the solution for the wifi - no connection - DHCP issue I'm having ?
Thanks for your reply!

Try this if u want
Install a terminal
Open a shell
Enable/Disable Wifi
Type
ping forum.xda-developers.com
then press enter (search)
....
until the ping is fine u can use internet connection !!
It's not the solution but maybe a solution
Try looking up on Google the ROM you have and re-flash it .
