For anyone who doesn't know what Evolve is, it is software that allows you to:
- Talk to players in-game
- Use different chat protocols and talk to players in-game (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Xfire, Steam, etc)
- Has VOIP and VPN
- And much more
It is geared more for gamers, however, it also has aspects that you can use for business and etc (the VOIP and VPN are quite nice).
Evolve itself also uses the XMPP chat protocol, so it is possible to also chat to your friends and join groups via your smart phone or tablet (I use Xabber from Android Market).
Not sure how many people here are gamers though, but if you haven't used Evolve yet, you should give it a shot, I think you'll be quite impressed

Here's a couple of sites to download it from. If they don't work, just google and you will find more.
The twitter support (or version 2?) has been around for a little while definitely.
FWIW, I normally visit http://m.fring.com to download straight to the phone I think.
In the end, I disabled the twitter plugin, as I found it to be too light in features for my tweeting needs - I found PockeTwit to be perfect. However, if all you need is to send simple tweets and to read other people's outpourings, it is good to see it included in Fring.
hmm, pretty sure fring had the twitter function added pre-xmas?
Ive noticed that they have released a skype app for some phones such as the new desire, but not for the nexus one. If anyone has the apk for the new version of skype (not the beta that was around a year ago) could they please upload it to the board or email it to me? thank you very much if you can help.
My email is iamwhoamnot at gmail
What's wrong with Fring? It even supports video just fine.

yeah, fring lets you sign into your skype account.
A few things are wrong with fring and nimbuzz and other clients, mostly because of their nature of being a proxy service rather than a true P2P app.
1. They store your credentials - you need to give fring and nimbuzz your user name and password to many services and trust them not to abuse it. You eventually just log in with their account password - and they connect to all other accounts you have using their stored details.
2. Proxy service - (a) Latency and (b) bad security.
(a) Since you don't directly call the other party you actually send your voice data to the fring servers which then forward it to the other person's skype - so fring in effect act as a middle man. this introduces latencies - as the data takes a longer route to get to the other side.
(b) Also it opens the opportunity for them to eavesdrop the conversation. It works not only for skype but also for all other types of accounts - like gtalk, fb chat, icq, aim - they have all your messages and then forward them.
These 2 reasons are why i can't wait for true p2p apps for all my chatting and voice needs - privacy and performance.

-Its not Skype
-Many people including myself dislike Frings cheesy interface.
But as you righly say, it will do the job until such time as Skype put out a build of their own.
Anyone have a decent chat client on the XOOM? I use Meebo, but the built in task killer likes to aggressively kill it and constantly signs me out. Anyone got any other ideas?
I like Beejive IM a lot on my iPhone. I don't really want to shell out the cash to try it on the Xoom without some reviews first.
It really depends on what services you are trying to connect to.
I'm using Google Talk for talking with google contacts. I use the official AIM client to talk to AIM people (although it also supports Facebook and Google Talk contacts as well).
Neither of those seem to get killed when I leave them running in the background.

Hey guys. I am kind of a big IM user, and I recently took the step of migrating to just exclusively using GoogleTalk. The two biggest services I talk on are GT and also AIM (which you can just talk to via GoogleTalk since they're federated XMPP services), so I have found that I basically don't need the specialized multi-client features of Trillian Pro. The other feature I liked in Trillian Pro is session sync, but GoogleTalk does that too, so I basically don't need to bother with installing & setting up Trillian when I have a built-in client that works directly with my Google Account already on my device.
Also the Trillian interface hasn't been modified for tablets in any way.
However, the stock GoogleTalk client doesn't support Groups on the contact list, so its just a giant mess for me.
It also doesn't have any options to re-skin or re-color it, and I don't much like the default white background (too bright for my taste).
Anybody have a chat client you love which isn't Trillian? Just curious.
Im+
