Dude, I posted a solution at post #23, which is the same thing that shabby posted at post #26 in the bounty thread.
I am not discounting shabby as I am sure he knew how to do exactly what he did, but next time you offer something, you should pony up to the first solution that does what you requested.
Compare my batch file to his if you don't have any faith. Just because I made sure you were serious, and you took offense, doesn't mean you shouldn't do what is right.
And by the way, I apologized for any hurt feelings over my, "Are you serious" comment.
EDIT - I was missing a library, fair enough. Statement Retracted.

i understand your concern about this issue, but i think it was more of a mine had everything included in it from the get go, whereas your option (at the time) still required drivers to be searched and used.

Shabby, I returned to stock to try this out and after the unlock when it boots into recovery, it's getting hung up at the android logo and an exclamation point. What would cause that?
sounds like there was an issue flashing cwm, whats mind pastebin'in me the output of the terminal?
just saying could not load, the easy fix was just putting your cwm file in sdk/tools
ah yes, this zip is assuming you dont have path set/sdk installed ill look into making a newer version thats a bit more advanced tomorrow. prolly whip up a linux friendly version as well. can try mac but no guarantees
on a side note might wanna update your sdk as the newer ones use "platform-tools" for adb/fastboot
If anyone is interested, I built a tool to root the Lenovo K1
I tested it on K1_A301_04_04_111017_US.
This is a stock image with SU installed. However, you could replace the system.img image with any custom image you want to make, if you don't like the stock one.
Warning: This will delete everything on your tablet.
It would be possible to change the Nvflash to only load a rooted boot image, if that's what you wanted. You could just flash in the boot.img which would give you a ADB root, but that's your call and you'll have to change the loader.
Also, if you hook this up and want to use ADB to connect then you will need to build driver definitions and add 0x17EF to the adb_usb.ini. Here are the driver definitions.

I don't have a thinkpad, if I did I'd root it too. You should be able to download this tool and set of images and tweak it for the thinkpad. It uses a ASUS set of leaked keys, so it might just work for you.

Unless you found a new set than the one already circulating, that set of Lenovo leaked keys does not work on the Thinkpad, unfortunately.
On holiday computer(far from my computer) and unable to test this. Though I'm sure someone would have collected the $300 bounty by now if there was a leaked key set out there.

Now, why would any manufacture lockout a device so it cannot be rooted? What are they thinking? This will be the end of Android when Windows 8 appears.
Makers of these tablets need to realize that everyone does NOT want all those applications they load these tablets with.

A quick question can someone create a Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 forum? I don't know if it needs a certain level of demand. I know have some questions that belong in the general section of the Lenovo IdeaPad Tablet K1 forum and not here Sorry I'm not trying to be sarcastic.

Unfortunately this is true, Forum request thread had been temporary closed. We have had a massive increase in devices being released. Having a forum for all of them would be a tall order.
The forum request thread was set up in good faith, to try to highlight the popular devices so forums could be opened. But as pointed out it quickly went down hill by people demanding things (put politely). I myself have been a target of some trolling on not opening sub-forums. Even though it is totally out of my hands (its down to the site admin) Its a growing issue here on XDA Developers. Hope fully the admin will come to a good solution to the issue.
If anybody notices before me that that thread has been re-opened, please let the good people of this forum aware of it. I am sure others will want to post there interest.
Sorry to the OP for taking this thread off topic, but i wanted to answer that as quickly as possible. I will add this to the read before posting thread to take all other questions. So please no more about this in this thread.

FIXING Netflex
If you have problems on the K1 getting Netflix to work and you are rooted then do the following from the 'adb shell'
#
# mount -t rfs -o remount,rw system /system
exit
C:\Android>adb push libnvomx.so /system/lib
Now reboot your tablet. Basically you have to replace the /system/lib/libmvomx.so file with the one I've attached. Once you do that, it will get rid of that nasty 12001 error.
Enjoy,
TD
NO root access
Hello,
I ran this tool and it installed successfully, however, I have no root access. There seems to be an issue with Super user. I am a noobie and do not know how to run an update lets say from the SD card. Is anyone else having this issue?
(ATRIX HD) <FIX!> Cant Update To Jellybean Because Of Customization <FIX!> AT&T Only!

Hey all!
If you've modified your system partition chances are you can not update to jellybean. Thankfully there is a quick fix.
First of all make sure your on the latest revision of Ice Cream Sandwich for your device (if you go to SETTINGS>ABOUT>SYSTEM UPDATES. You should see a 4.1.1 update; if it says that there is a 4.0.4 update then this tutorial is not for you. However if this is not for you, chances are I can get it to work soon.)
Basically what this tutorial will do is re-install Stock Firmware so that you are eligible for the Jellybean Update! Its quick and easy.
(1. Download this package:
firmware: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/dinara/7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC.xml.zip
xml: http://www.mediafire.com/view/?l4l81nxc49utk1y
RSD: http://www.mediafire.com/?yw9dh89jtqii71e
(firmware, xml and RSD LITE)
(2. Extract all archives to desktop place the separate xml file in with all firmware files this means: (put xml in with firmware files overwritting the xml it came with.)
(3. Turn Device Off
(4. Hold Volume + ; Hold Volume - ; Hold Power (ALL AT ONCE)
(5. You should now be in the boot-loader menu; QUICKLY use ONLY VOLUME DOWN! to scroll down to APFastboot, THEN PRES VOLUME UP!
(6. Plug device in (VIA USB) to computer.
(7. Install RSD Lite 6.1.4
(8. Open up RSD Lite 6.1.4
(9. Click (...) load / select the file you extracted (open 7.7.1Q-144_MB886_MR1-22_SIGNED_CFC.xml ; found in folder Firmware 4.0.4 in the folder you extracted.
(10. Press "Start" Be patient may take multiple tries
(11. After successful when device is restored go to Settings>About>System Updates>Download and Install Jellybean Update (may take up to 20 minutes to install be patient! Everything will be okay!)
(12. Enjoy your Jelly-beaned Atrix HD

Just a quick reminder, this shouldn't be your reason for posting more threads. Posting threads for the sake of posting threads is known as spamming and in most cases results in posts/threads being deleted and you having to start back from 0. Take this as a friendly reminder to anyone thinking of doing this as we're all meant to be here to help each other and share a common interest.

Feel free to clone the repo and play around with it. Any suggestions on optimization, bug reports and the like are much appreciated.
i haven't been around much in a long time and have been silently lurking the forum. while i don't know how hard it is, a suggestion may be some kind of rollback utility for firmware.

not really. There are complete threads discussing your exact situation. And is fairly easy to reproduce. I would advise reading the whole thread involving your modifications. The OP is not always updated with every tidbit of helpful information.
while you're above suggestion. Would be nice to be integrated into another utility. There are fairly easy steps to accomplish what you need to.that have already been thoroughly developed by another developer and he would have to get permission from him also add that.
and keep in mind Apollo is slightly behind in development as far as compared to the Thor.
while i understand that there are whole threads, what i am pointing out, and you said as well is that there is not a definitive process / guide.
anyway, the OP was asking for suggestions which is exactly what i gave.

while you're above suggestion. Would be nice to be integrated into another utility. There are fairly easy steps to accomplish what you need to.that have already been thoroughly developed by another developer and he would have to get permission from him also add that.
and keep in mind Apollo is slightly behind in development...blah blah blah"
Ive been all around these forums for years. Never seen a more conflicting and jumbled shamble of tutorial wannabes or confusing information in my life. Most of the bricks dont come from seriously stupid people, they come from a lack of competent, cohesive, coherent information.

I cannot completely disagree with you on this. The issue we have is that there are several different routes to currently take with these tablets all depending on what version of firmware you are on, and if you follow one set of directions while on the wrong firmware, its potentially the end for your tablet. Double this confusion with 2 tablets with the "same" yet different sets of firmware. You're right that we are lacking a fully comprehensive guide for people just coming here new. Some bricks have been caused by carelessness, but there is so much confusion with where to begin with some people. Those of us that have had these tablets for awhile may be use to it, but I do feel for the ones new to all of this and the twenty different directions they may have to take based off a single question, "what firmware are you on?".
Am I missing something? I don't see a download link, only contributor links.

Re post 3. Basically says OP is working on it and will release it when it's done.

As Faznx92 has abandoned development of his great toolkit that many of us see as an essential to
these devices, I have decided to pick up where he left. I'm continuing the project and, as such, have
recreated it in VB.NET with a proper interface.

Got the solution from GitHub and started building it. Anything I can do to help? I'm basic to intermediate with OOP languages. I was thinking of attempting to convert the project to C#. If anything, I can help make builds.

Nope, but there are other methods to obtain root. I will let someone with more experience jump in. While I have read through relevant posts with interest I have not directly worked with Apollo (8.9" HDX) or Sangria (Fire OS 4.x). Don't want to dole out bad/incomplete info ...
Important: Do not connect to WiFi (delete any WiFi networks you may have previously connected to) as you may get upgraded to 4.5.3 which is reported to be much hard to crack. I know it's tempting ... don't do it!
**** ! My Kindle Fire HDX is on 4.5.3 now. :-$

Yes, if you need root and you have hdx 7" (codename Thor ), you can downgrade from 13.4.5.3 to 13.3.2.8, then upgrade to 13.4.5.2 which is now rootable.

Thx a lot !
Hi, I'm Vaneyen, from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I have lots of Andriod devices, and have meddled with rooting a little bit, but am not yet entirely comfortable with risking the brick. However, I am deeply interested in Hacking, which simply means "making My devices work the way I want them to." I have (with the help of Youtube bloggers) hacked Keurig coffee machines, so now it's time to get my Android devices working the way I want them to!
Hi Vaneyen and welcome to XDA! You came with experience to the right place for modding, flashing, development, etc.!
Cheers

Thank you, galaxys.
I have an Android TV box I'm looking to root, but I'm unclear of one thing. I've learned (thank you 3mel!) that the process will likely involve:
1) unlocking the bootloader (if needed),
2) flashing the correct TWRP recovery (for that series of boxes),
3) flashing magisk 21.4 in TWRP and
4) installing magisk apk.
Is there a tutorial on the site aimed at guiding someone through the process of determining the correct process for each of these steps? I've learned that my box in question has an Amlogic p212, but is that enough to go on?
Thanks for the welcome!

Seems like you posted good details in June in those forums.
You can bump your last post there and maybe someone will respond. Any of tutorial should be specific to your device if one exists....
I wonder if it is possible to install root rights on Apple hardware.

Good question, but I have no idea where to ask it. You may get good results if you google "how to root ios iphone" - I just did, and there are a few promising hits in there.
