Hi. I am new as you can see. I tried to find a relevant thread but i couldn't find any. May be my bumbling... Anyway i pressed recovery boot in Quickboot by misteke. So my phone is back to square one as you can imagine. Is there way that i can go back to the state before i pressed that doomsday button or i have to kiss goodbye to everything i had on the phone?
I don't have any nandroid backup. I have titanium backup files. But i just wanna know is there a simple way... To recover from recovery, i know sounds stupid.
If you try to go to recovery without ClockWordMod installed, the phone will be reset to factory defaults. And then nothing can be done to return to its previous state.
I feared so. Well, such a clumsy move on my account. Start from the begining...puff.. Good thing i didn't update to gingerbread. Now i have an excuse to do it. Thanks for the answer man.
LOL that happened to me some time ago.
I thought I had CWM but when restarted.. wtf !! stop that fu**ing thing!!...and losted everything
The only positive thing in this fact, is that you'll always remember very well if you had installed CWM next time you enter in recovery.
For safety, I usually do a backup of calls, sms and apps, when I'm not sure about what I'm going to do.
For that I use the apps "titanium backup", "sms backup and restore" and "call backup and restore".
Hope you have better luck next time

This is my first time to restore a nandroid backup i recently made. The load bar isnt animated any longer and its sitting on:
"restoring data...
[email protected]"
the first time i pulled the battery after about 5 minutes and rebooted into what appeared to be a partial restore, but the home button didnt work and i powered down before it finished synching my settings. Im on my second attempt, sitting at the same place and its been close to 10 minutes, is this normal or should i just try pulling the battery again and reflashing the rom altogether? I wiped the first time even though my searching said it wasnt necessary, no wipe the second time. here are my unhelpful search results:
http://www.google.com/search?source...s+nandroid+restore+take+on+nexus+one?&qscrl=1
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=did+my+nandroid+restore+freeze?&qscrl=1
Doesn't sound too good i'm afraid & I am of little help either as I too am new to Android ROM flashing - but rather, as a help to others, can you state what type & version of recovery you are using (ClockWorkMod / amon_ra), what Nexus you have (AMOLED / SLCD), whether you have the phone connected over USB when backing up / restoring, android version backed up, what charge level you had etc.
I believe all of these elements can affect your results in one way or another.
e.g, I believe for SLCD, you require amon_ra v1.8.0.1 & some people have reported issues if performing the operations while connected to USB.
Good luck & let us know how you get on.
Steve.
thanks, i ended up just reflashing the rom because restore kept freezing. I remember usb was not plugged in during backup, it may have been during the first restore, i dont recall, but it was definitely not plugged in the second time. Im just glad no serious damage was done though, i guess i just wont do nandroid anymore ill stick with the rom manager backup method. Im using clockwork recovery

The backup/restore function in Clockwork is the same as what you get in ROM Manager.
I had a restore freeze on me too, during the data segment. Same thing happened twice. Here's what I did to fix it:
1) Booted into Clockwork
2) Wiped cache and data
3) Went into the nandroid menu, "Advanced" restore
4) Restored the data partition *only* - this succeeded where other restores had failed
5) Restored each remaining partition individually as well, also from the Advanced menu
6) Booted up and everything was fine

I've run into a similar hangup before running Clockwork, and fixed it pretty much the same way you did. I've since gone back to Amon's recovery, as its nandroid functions seem to be more reliable.
Hi all,
I just installed ClockworkMod Recover using ROM Manager on my G1, replacing Amon_RA. Immediately before replacing, I did a Nandroid backup using Amon_RA. No problems, lots of dots and then it returned. After I installed ClockworkMod, I tried creating another Nandroid backup, first from the recovery screen and then from the ROM Manager app. Both times the backup hung on the message "Backing up .android_secure..." and required a battery pull to get back. The last time I let it go for over an hour before giving up. I'm running CM6 stable, if that matters.
Any idea? I'm about to put Amon_RA back on, so I can get good Nandroid backups again.
I know this is an old post but I am getting the same thing. Going to continue researching.
hmmm last time i had an issue kinda like this it was the recovery... need to re flash it somehow.. maybe the sd ext has something to do with it also...? im not sure but i would try to re flash recovery or maybe switch back to amon-ra if all else fails can always re-root
Mine took over 20 minutes today. Just when I was about to pull the battery, it moved on. Probably down the amount of stuff you have on your phone I guess.
I'm running a 32GB card stuffed with apps
havent used clockworkmod in a long time, i stick with amonra -- but if i remember right with clockwork isnt there an option to have a status bar so you can see how things are moving along? maybe not...
So tonight I was close to a freak out. I made a Nandroid backup of my CM 6.1.1 system. And then I restored a backup of an old 2.2 stock rom. After that I did a wipe / factory reset thing since I wanted to play with plane untweaked and new stock rom. When I got bord of it I booted into recovery mode via "power + volume down" and tried to restore the CM Rom which it refused to do. One point showed up and then it aborted and said something about "something wrong, nandroid restore doesn't work" - cant remember the exact words. So I thought "**** maybe the backup is corrupt". So I tried another one. Which didn't work either. So I actually ended up trying every single of my 22-ish backups. None of them worked. So instead of having a heart failure I just went to bed and told myself I would deal with it today. So today I wanted to boot into recovery mode so instead of dealing with my broken power button I installed 1-click universal androot and quick boot. I soft rooted the phone (obviously stock roms are not known for its rootedness) and rebooted into recovery mode where my restoration attempt succeeded like it always does. So now I'm curious why it worked today. And I must admit it sounds obvious. But it has to have something to do with the fact that I rooted my phone. So is that true? Can recovery managers only write the images of a nandroid backup when the phone is rooted. I thought the fact that there is a recovery image that is capable of backing up and restoring a system has all necessary rights through its bare existence? Just curious... =)

1) Paragraphs...look it up
2) When you reloaded your stock rom you lost custom recovery. That's why you couldn't re-flash your cm backup.

First try to turn off the phone, with the phone OFF, press "Vol-" + "Power button" until turn ON.
You should be in Android Recovery Menu, select "wipe data/ factory reset" and press "Power button", next screen go untill the middle and select "yes" and press "Power button". After that just reboot.
If everything went good should be enough, otherwise you need to re-flash.

The OP probably was asking for a way to regain control of his phone without the need to lose any personal data, as the factory reset will surely do. Unfortunately you are right, that is the last step before having to manually re-flash the original firmware and it's the only solution available to him now.
But a bit of advice, in case something similar happens again in the future. Just like with computers it's always advised to take a backup of your important files before tampering/tinkering with the software. And there are many ways right now to do this. We have CWM recovery (thanks to Dexter) which can be used for backup purpose, on the Play Store, there are also apps like Titanium Backup and the new Titanium Media Sync that can accomodate easily and simply all your backup needs. Although the present situation is a bitter pill to shallow, it will come to pass fortunately, so keep in mind the above tips to save yourself from grief and anguish in the future.:fingers-crossed: Best regards

well, im really lucky, yesterday i wanted to use deodex & remove stock apps script, and i made an backup in CWM first, as i havent removed it, and i went to bed, and in bed i started removing some stock apps, if i reflash the phone (hard reset wont work) will the internet storage be removed ? if it doesnt i can just restore the backup right?, then i will backup all the games and other data, and reflash 10G (maybe) or just 10f, as i have deodexed it at backup
If your backup was on the external sdcard, as its always suggested, I dont think it will be deleted, but for the sake of certainty remove the memory card prior to trying anything. If the backup is on the internal sdcard, then it will be deleted (I speak from personal experince since my phone also entered a bootloop and the only solution was to re-flash the official firmware) - quick and painless if you the guide correctly.

If you want to backup a system image, then only CWM can help you. If you want to backup certain files/apps/settings there are a number of ways and programs to help you with that: LG's own backup offering, Titanium Media Sync, App Backup Pro, etc...
First & Foremost, this is my first time posting on here. So my sincerest apologies if I shouldnt be posting here. I am also somewhat new at rooting so again, I'm sorry. I am going on over 48 hours trying to resolve this myself but to no avail....
My situation is...
I recently rooted my Note 3 N900A by downgrading to KK and then updated to Lollipop 5.0. I then wanted to play around and download some different custom roms and just do some exploring around with my new rooted phone as this was really the first time doing so (I'm sure people like myself (noob) are annoying to a lot of you experienced people!) ... but before doing so... I wanted to make a backup of my phone. So using SafeStrap (TWRP v2.7.1.0)... I did a complete backup of my phone. I included all the partitions that SafeStrap listed . So i backed up the DATA, CACHE, and SYSTEM. However, normally I would have saved the backup to an SD card.. but the only one I had currently in my possession was full. So... I saved the backup to my internal storage.. which im hoping wasnt my mistake in causing this problem i am dealing with... I just figured once i saved the backup to my internal storage.. I could then later.. go back and save it to my computer or another SDcard. So i saved the backup to my internal storage. Well, the backup completed... no errors appeared. Even said the backup was successful and for me to reboot. Which i did... but then it never actually booted up. It would shutdown... restart... the screen where it says Safestrap: Disabled... and then below that is... the picture of that crazy lookin dude on it.. and then on each of the bottom corners its says... Recovery (on the left) and on the right bottom side it says CONTINUE... and then i also believe it mentions something about how in 10 seconds the system would reboot if nothing was pressed. Well no matter what I press or DON'T press... either Safestrap would come back up if I press the left bottom button that says RECOVERY. Ya know.. the one where it has those 8 boxes that say, Boot Options, Install, Backup, Restore, Mount, Wipe, Advanced, and Reboot... or if I dont hit anything or if I hit the bottom right button that says CONTINUE... then the ANDROID RECOVERY MODE screen would appear. I mean i honestly don't know what to do. Now, i can navigate to the ADVANCED button in Safestrap and then File Manager and see the backup that I made in the TWRP file. But I dont know what else to do to get my phone to boot back up like it normally should. Please anyone that could help... words can't describe how appreciative i would be!!!
I'm not sure which custom ROM you wanted to flash but the n900a has a locked bootloader and can only be flashed with a custom ROM that is based on a stock ROM.
