i rooted my galaxy note,
now when i go to software update
it doesnt update it
it doesnt even opens
like it used to give an error that no updates available before i rrooted it..
helppp
what rom are you using?
its stock rom.. inbuilt that i got with my cell
As far as I ma aware, if you updated a rooted device you will lose root. Your best bet is to find the stock ROM you want (and that may take a bit of searching) and flash it manually.

Update using Samsung Kies. LA5 is not available via OTA yet.

Hi,
Firstly, apologies if this question has already been answered. I tried using the search facility but didn't find the answer I needed.
I purchased my SGS from Malaysia. It came loaded with JG4 and the Singtel (Singapore) branding. I decided to flash the firmware to JP3 in order to get rid of the Singtel apps and the splash screen.
I have a few questions:
1. Will Kies still allow me to update to official Froyo even though I manually flashed to JP3? I'm aware that the official firmware isn't available yet for most of Asia, but want to make sure that when it does become available, Kies will let me update.
2. If I flash an unofficial European firmware onto my device, will I then be able to upgrade via Kies to the official European firmware? How does Kies determine which update is ideal for your phone? Is it based on the current firmware? Or do they check your serial number or something to determine where the phone was sold and only recommend that regions firmware? Do I need to downgrade to 2.1 in order for the Kies update to recognise that I need an update?
I know that if I really wanted to I could update things manually via Odin, but I would now prefer to stick to the official method of updating.
Thanks.
Similar difficulties
Hey,
I am having similar problems. I got my galaxy s from tmobile in uk but I upgraded my galaxy s to froyo 2.2 using Odin3. Problem is at that time I didn't have enough knowledge. The phone got upgraded to 2.2 properly but now a lot of functions like Swype don't work on it and also the Internet crashes quite oftenly also it is a little slow. I came to xda developers also in hopes to find out how to re flash galaxy s to 2.1 or fix my problems.
My advice for you is however, don't rush into anything like I did.
Regarding Swype, mine was disabled after I flashed the firmware too. Try holding down the button in the bottom left of the messaging screen to turn it back on.
Bump.
Can anybody shed some light on either question?
Is the official 2.2 update available yet via Kies?
I updated out of the box (got phone yesterday - unlocked but has some Vodafone branding in ROM) but still no 2.2 update.
Thanks

Well that's sorta the problem for me... I don't even know whether Kies will give me the option for updating to the official 2.2 firmware if it already sees that I have an unofficial 2.2 firmware installed already.
Having done some research (thanks google) I know Kies does not provide Froyo for Vodafone branded phones yet. However it appears to be due very soon.
The easiest way to get Froyo I think is to install ROM manager, then download a custom Froyo, stick it on your internal SD and flash it from recovery mode. Doc Froyo comes highly recommended
Probably not. I remember reading somewhere that kies will give you a message saying firmware not recognised.
Ok so i would like to update my galaxy to 2.3 gingerbread official using keis.
I live in Australia and based on what i have read the update should be out on my model of galaxy. When i plug my phone into keis it is saying i have the latest firmware. I have done some reading up on this and if i am correct some of the hacks and things i have done to my phone could cause it not to be able to update and i would like to know if this is true and how i can fix this.
Things i have done:
- I am currently running 2.2 froyo
- I have voodoo lagfix and soundfix installed.
- I used sgs tools from market to use the optus apps which came with my phone that where unusable since i was with virgin.
- I applied a 3 button fix i found as well so i could update voodoo easier. But in the end i just used Odin.
One thing i read was that i have to restore the system apps to update it. which i have done with all accept one but the .apk backup for it is not working so i cannot. Will i have to use Odin and revert back to the original firmware and start again? Or is there something i can do from here?
Short answer- You can't.
Gingerbread isn't out officially anywhere at present (there was a brief period where it was out on Kies for Scandinavia- hence all the semi-official "leaked" roms).
On past performance we're likely to be waiting a fair while here in Oz- once Official GB Roms come out from Samsung you then have to wait for all the local carriers to add their garbage to it (and - according to them- "test" it) before it gets released on kies. I'd bite the bullet and just grab a nice rom from here.
Remember if you do decide to wait for the official update, you will have to downgrade to stock for kies to recognise your right to an upgrade.
+ 120 to that NO upgrade to 2.3.3 YET .
All upgrades are unofficial .When Kies has your upgrade it upgrades
Then before update undo lagfix .
Or to be really safe reinstall your original saved rom the one you saved before you started messing with the phone .

I think using odin to flash a stock rom back before updating by kies would be safe way

Depends Kies does not recognize stock rom as product code etc dont match = no update through Kies . Stock is not network supplied firmware as original .

if i'm not mistaken if you rooted your phone, you wont be able to update the firmware using kies.
happened to me while i'm on Galaxy tab 10.1 update from HC 3.1 to HC 3.2.
Just use custom rom instead.

Yep no update when on root. Flash the original firmware then you can upgrade
Do i have to flash a rom or just unroot will be enough?
if i have to flash how can i get an original rom
To get an original ROM, check the first post on Android Development Section on Galaxy Note by dr. ketan. It has all the stock roms, also info on unrooting.
thank you
as much as dr ketan is aiming for simple solutions to root and unroot his manual is not simple at all.
i Unrooted using his steps and it was succeesful but the update is not installing also..
do i have to root then burn a stock rom then unroot ? or it is engouh to root again burn custom rom and do the firmware update
please tell me a 1 2 3 steps

As for installing ROMs onto your device, that's easy. Custom ROMs is harder because most likely there are no custom ROMs for your device, and lastly that is not a error, when you root a Samsung device, it makes it so you can't update it on stock firmware so it won't mess the phone up if something goes wrong.

no you are not able to install another phones custom rom, it would brick your device. there are special moments where two phones are very similar so they are able to flash each others rom but with your phone i dont see a brother. as for the error you would just need to unroot since you are rooted on stock you would have to look that up. but i see that your phone is still at android 4.0 there is no updates right now.

well if its offical one it probably patched root. you might not have root now and if there is no root method for that version then you would have to downgrade witch i doubt there is one. otherwise you are stuck now.

You're Welcome...
GT-S6012 Booot loop..
Hi. I got a Samsung GT-S6012 that keeps rebooting the Samsung logo and doesn't start. At first I got the phone stuck on the very first logo with Samsung model name. So I did some search. Downloaded Odin and latest 4.1.2 official firmware for that phone model flashed it. Everything worked for a few days but then the battery ran out and phone shut down and when I turned it on again it got stuck on the very first logo and nothing. Then I flashed the same firmware again to get it running and when I checked it the flashing didn't really fully wiped the internal memory cause the data in it was still in tact. So I thought I need full wipe to fix the phone. So installed custom recovery, rooted it and flashed CM 10.1 on it. It was running very smooth everything seemed okay but I wanted the stock rom. So I went to recovery wiped whatever was possible and flashed the stock firmware in download mode again. And now I got stuck on the second Samsung logo and it keeps rebooting it self. I recognize that I cannot wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache in now stock recovery cause it gives me android logo within it a red flag. The wipe cache supposed to fix boot loop problem but it's not an option for me anymore. All I can do now is just enter Download mode. I'm downloading 4.0.4 firmware and gonna try to flash that one see if it works but I doubt. Can anyone suggest me a way to fix it? Please I'm really desperate.
Hi!
I unrooted my phone to stock samsung galaxy s5 ROM (Touchwiz, using sammobiles). I thought that everything would be as if the phone was brand new, but I suspect that my kernel isn't stock samsung, since tv2 sumo app that uses kernel detection says my phone is rooted. (though I have no root access now...) The app won't play videos! Please help me get it working again!
Is it possible to have stock android ROM but not stock kernel? How can I get stock kernel?
