I am trying to restore my Angry Birds data back to my phone but Titanium Backup is saying i cannot restore. So i did some poking around on the internet and found out that the Captivate does not have Sideloading enabled. So I try to follow method 1 of this how to but i ran into a Problem with SQLite.
It gives the following error: qAdmin: Cannot perform this operation on a closed dataset.
I am running Team ICSSGS Android 4.0.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19680233#post19680233 with the stock Gingerbread bootloaders for the Samsung Captivate.

Hmm... the fact that you are using a custom rom, ICSSGS, means that you have root access and all the benefits that come with it... such as installing apps that are not available on the market or is not designed specifically for your specific handset by sideloading... so this feature, sideloading, that you are concerned about is definitely available with the rom you are using. Make sure that you have the "Unknown Sources" turned on. That will make the sideloading possible on your Captivate. Go to Setting->Security->Unknown Sources.
The fact that you are having issues restoring data for your game app is not related to the sideloading issues.
Have you wiped user data, Dalvik cache and cache when you flashed the rom? I am not sure if TIBU is having issues with the ICSSGS, but I have restored many apps using TIBU without issues...
Good luck.

Apps keep self-installing from market even after full wipes, flashes, and turning off "back up my settings and automatic restore in privacy settings"
The apps that keep installing are from when I was on Cyan506.
Anybody else with similar problems?
it must be the google backup cloud restoring your apps, ive been trying to get this to occur for me, but no luck.
Mine was doing this when I was being dumb and installing Cyans rooter over Pauls rooted Rom. After I stopped flashing the rooter, this stopped. But every app hangs at install now.
i flashed cyans rooter over pauls pre-rooted froyo and im not having any issues. i wiped first so i dont have any of my apps but im not having problems that i know of.
Before you set up your google account, go through the settings and change the settings to not auto restore your apps. Settings, privacy, auto restore.
i do want it to restore my apps though. that or i want a file manager that can back up the apps and restore them once ive flashed to 2.2. it would be nice to restore SMS as well if possible.

This is where I'm at now. I'm missing my paid apps tab in the market. Right now I'm back on 2.1 and about to start a OTA for 2.2.

I did this and... they still started to self-install after a reboot. It's driving me insane. Now like I said, I'm back to stock 2.1 goingto OTA 2.2 and flash Cyans rooter.
I'm using CM6 RC2 and despite some issues with 3G (or lack of) and 2G connectivity it has been running ok for the most part. However, I wanted to try another FroYo ROM out to see if any offer me better 3G performance. I have a ROM backup already but in case another ROM gives better performance I installed, or tried to install, MyBackup Pro from the Market. I paid for it ages ago so there's no issue with payment or an illegal program being broken. Unfortunately something went wrong during the download possibly related to the lack of 3G connectivity I've been experiencing.
Basically the download is stuck at the downloading state but it never downloads, fails to download, or installs leaving it in an eternal "downloading" state. If I tap the program name then try to cancel the download I get a force close with process.com.android.vending and soon after the Market reloads with the MyBackup Pro download still listed as downloading.
Things I've tried to rectify it so far...
ADB to remove the Vending.apk file then pushing the same program from the CM6 ROM.
Reflash the latest Google Apps package supplied with CM6.
Wipe dalvik cache and cache.
Reflash CM6 RC2 and then the latest Google Apps.
Nothing has worked so far. Possibly related I get a crash if I try to view the "Battery Status" under "About Phone" but that's only started the past few days. If anyone has any thoughts on how to fix it aside from doing a factory wipe and reinstalling I'd love to see them. If I have to wipe and reflash then I would want to backup and that leads me to being stuck without knowing another decent backup program.
So, i've tried to restore my market apps after a factory rest and flashign a new rom, it never works, no matter if i use a custom or a stock rom, when i enter the market, i can't restore the apps i had, having hundreds of apps installed, manually doing them all, is a pain...
does anyone know of any app that can do this? or if there is some way to confgure the phone or market to do it?
Use titanium, available in the market. Thank me!
Edit...by pro version for batch reinstall,pps...u shouldn't be flashing roms if you don't know about backing up and restoring!

Titanium Backup is the app you want. It will store all your apps and app data in a folder on your SD...so that when you reinstall a new ROM, or factory reset, it pulls all the info back out of that folder.
While it will save and restore all your apps, the free version requires you to click "Yes" and "Done" to install each app, where the paid version will let you do it as a batch....yes to all, done.
And if you haven't rooted, AppMonster is a good alternative..

I know how to backup and restore, and i know titanium and it's not what i want...
i want a market restore, if install from titanium (which doesn't work across different OS versions) the apps are local isntalls and the market won't pass me updates from them, what i want is to have an app that reinstalls everything from the market so i can get update notifications, and so the restore will work regardless of what OS version i happen to flash into the phone.

Android comes with an option that when you sign into your Google account on your phone that all you market apps restore on their own but Samsung removed this option, so TIBU is your only hope, or appmonster

If your Market app does not detect re-installed apps, you can clear the Market app data at "Manage Applications" menu. This will trigger the Market app to rescan your apps..
Happened to me before and that did the trick.
Titanium backup has allowed me over the years to go from 1.5 -> 1.6 -> 2.0 -> 2.1 -> 2.2 -> 2.3 while changing handsets quite happily, so not sure why the OP thinks it cannot.
I did have to purge market cache and data once or twice, but as long as I remembered to run market access first its never failed to reattach or relearn what was installed post restoration.
Also found Joel (the author) to be helpful and responsive the once or twice I had a problem via emails ...

You have to enable backup data. Go to Settings>Privacy. After fresh installation ROM, you have to sign in Google account. After a while, your apps will appear.

Same happens to me. Have done several FR and even switched phone, but it has never worked (the standard from Google). Any suggestions?
As far as I observed:
The google way only works on AOSP-ROMs (Cyanogen).
Samsung disabled the option (just not in UI *fail*).
Restoring data across OS-versions does not work 100%. System-settings often work, system apps hardly ever work, Other apps sometimes make problems (Angry Birds never works for me).
With Titanium restoring completely breaks when switching from CM7 to a Samsung-ROM or vice versa
Hello, I have been experiencing a weird issue with restoring apps with Titanium Backup Pro that I have never had before. My captivate had Firefly 3.0 on it and apps were being backed up every night. My phone started freezing and restarting, so I flashed to stock, master cleared, then reloaded Firefly 3.0. I use Titanium backup pro to restore the apps it had backed up, and it seems to work fine. Once they are all done, I can access them and use them, whatever.
The issue arises after I restart the phone; some of the apps just go away from the app drawer. They are not on my sd card, so that can be ruled out. For instance, Angry Birds got restored fine, and I could play it until I restarted the phone, then it just went away. Same with Flikie HD, and many others. I look in the application manager and some apps just have the generic android icon and their names are in the format "com.android......". These are the apps that will not work.
This has never happened to me before and there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. There is no pattern for what apps it does or does not restore. Also, unknown sources are allowed and Titanium Backup says the backup files are fine, no errors at all. I have gone through the process of flashing to stock, master clearing, reflashing quite a few times now, but the same thing every time, with the same apps it seems.
Thanks for taking the time to read my long problem, but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciate.
Having the came problem with Apex 8.1. Any ideas?
Unfortunately, no. I just ended up taking note of which apps screwed up on restore, and then just got them from the market. Lost the data that accompanied them, but oh well.
TIBU update
I just had this same problem but had luck by first updating TIBU from the market. Then uninstall the offending app(s) and re-install from the market. After install, just restore data only through TIBU, and voila! Worked for me but as usual, ymmv. This happened to my Angry Birds and was not very happy to lose my save game data but it all worked out in the end. Hope this helps.
PS - was also on Apex 8.1...

This was a known issue when installing a ROM with an incompatible version of CWM. Just verify which version of clockwork mod you have and what the flashable .zip requires to load properly. May or may not be it, just figured I'd throw it out there.

Huh, I never got the option to reload only the data, it was weird. After I installed the apps from the market, the option to restore the app or data was gone totally.

I don't think that is the issue, thanks though. I have restored apps on Firefly 3.0 with the same CWM with no issues, so I doubt that is it. I appreciate the reply though.
Hello! This is my first time to post here (so sorry if I posted at the wrong forum).
My Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi (P7310) with Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) has a google map that keeps crashing. Due to irritation, I uninstalled the updates. The google maps crsshing stopped but it lead to downgrading the device as (a whole, I guess).
Now ALL my apps that were downloaded or updated via Google Play Store keeps crashing. I had to reinstall some (because those are what I need) but I don't have time to do that with all my other apps. I tried upgrading it to a stock Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) thinking I did a soft-brick but it didn't work.
Is there an easier way (than reinstalling them one by one) to solve this? Either an app, or rooting or so. (by the way my device hasn't been rooted yet).
Thanks and have a great day!

Moved for better assistance, Thank you.
Without root I don't think there's much you can do other than a factory reset. If you had root I'd suggest booting into recovery and wiping cache and dalvik to start with. If that didn't fix it you could wipe system and reflash a ROM without wiping your data (apps). If that still didn't work you could install Titanium Backup, backup all your apps, do a factory reset, and reinstall all your apps at once.
But without root, suck it up and factory reset. That's the best advice I've got.
