Why would you try to root Note with Sony Ericsson Xperia Play rooting method? You are lucky not to have bricked your phone.
Anyway, zegrush method does not work with LA+ builds.
What you want to do is visit DrKetan's Note Rooting thread, read carefully, follow the instructions, and you'll get there.

Yeah I'd like to know that too...
To root with FM Kernel, you need:
- FM Kernel 2.0 actually.
- Odin 1.83 on laptop or PC.
- SS USB driver installed on PC.
Then
1. Open Odin 1.83
2. Select PDA and choose FM Kernel.tar
3. Connect Note to PC.
4. Click START on Odin screen, about 20" procedure will finish.
5. Disconnect Note with PC.
6. Now you have rooted Note,
7. Continue to install Superuser 3.0 and CWM to able to use a lots of softwares and to install any firmwares or Kernels that you want.
Enjoy,

If you have updated like this, just check your binary counter.
Custom ROM/Kernel flashing with ODin, raise flash counter.
Have you read this lines? which is there on link you have mentioned
The configuration is more or less Samsung Stock (except debugging, logging and the governor). Maybe I will optimize it in the future. The CWM App from Chainfire is not included, but should work on this kernel. I suggest to first flash a CF Kernel in order to root your phone and get the CWM App. After that you can flash this kernel. I recommend the CWM Manager App for flashing activities.

This is slightly off-topic, but I am new to Samsung devices -- getting my Note today or tomorrow -- and I would like to know what is this flash counter and are there some negative effects to it rising?

Flash counter is number, that shows how many time you have flash your device with custom ROM(non samsung), it has negative effect is, when your counter is raised, you can't claim warranty.
Still there is no losing hope, if counter raised, You can reset it to zero, but that requires 'Zig' Hardware Tool.
Keep one golden rule in mind - NEVER flash any custom ROM/Kernel with PC odin.
To get Root n Update ROM, you can get guide from last link on my signature.
Along the same lines, although slightly OT:
I have gained Root access using the zegrush method. That was very painless. I did read a lot before doing it, and obviously picked the right file & approach.
I then installed CWM. That was quite painless too. I found a blog post that described it (because I was unsure what it even was) here:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
I am sure these details are here somewhere too, but there is a great deal of information here, and sometimes a lot of knowledge is assumed.
I then gritted my teeth, took my Note in my hands, and flashed the Abyss kernel. Again, I read a lot, and I selected the right file (thanks to dr.ketan once again).
So all is quite rosy, and nothing (touch wood) has gone wrong. It seems I can easily flash kernals any time I want.
My only question is, is it just as simple to flash a ROM in this way with CWM? If so, the whole process is much easier than it seemed when I started!
I do point this out because there is an awful lot of information out there. Some of it is in a 'different language' and can be intimidating. It took me ages to get around to finding CWM for example. I am a techie (C++ / Java / C# developer from way back), but it is still not easy to get started. It appears that when you take the time to learn, follow the right steps (after picking the correct set based on your circumstances) it is actually quite simple.
Many thanks to everyone making it possible, and most importantly the developers giving us these great mods for free!

I knew that, but binary counter increases only one time, after that with CWM, upgading firmware easily.
For me, I had a self made Jig so I can remove yellow triangle and binary counter always returns zero.

You can downgrade to directly rootable rom -
i used this one -
N7000XXKL3 ------ 2.3.6 2011 December-------- N7000ODDKL1 --------------------India -----------------------------Download
from the post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
This doesn't increase the binary counter or show yellow triangle.
Alternatively. U can flash the downgrade rom
Just root it . Then go to market and download mobile odin pro.
Download the corresponding CF kernel and flash it through Mobile Odin Pro.
So now u will have root + CWM
Using mobile odin pro for flashing any kernel doesn't increase the binary counter or show the yellow triangle.
Enjoy!!
Downgraded, rooted, installing Checkrom noteHD v6 right now.
tnx for the help

As I understand it the yellow triangle is caused by flashing a non-stock ROM, unless you do it directly on the device (I may have that slightly wrong). It is not a problem, but it would mean you lose your warranty. You may be able to get rid of the triangle with Triangle Away from the market, but your warranty is still void.
In theory you can re-flash a stock ROM and all is good, but that will not remove the triangle itself (as I understand it).
For me, i am more interested in the kernel, and just flash that. Root access is important too, as it allows me to kill all the useless garbage Samsung seem to insist on installing and protecting. That garbage eats your battery all day and all night, and I got sick of the waste (not needing or wanting most of it).

If you flash the stock rom the yellow triangle will go away. Back to as factory condition and your warranty is not void.
The yellow triangle comes when you flash a non stock kernel. You can remove the yellow triangle by using triangle away app and your warranty is not void. When giving the phone for warranty always remember to remove any custom rom and kernel and just flash the stock rom and they will honor the warranty !
Use the instructions that i have provided a few posts above and you would be able to get root without getting any yellow triangle or increasing your binary counter!
Cheers!
Yes, the binary counter is something the o so "open" Samsung decided to include on its devices. It's not a problem if you don't need to send your phone back and if you flash everything from CWM recovery...though developers for ICS around here are absolutely dead set on not including modem or kernel files for their "custom" ROMS, so you'll have to use ODIN to flash a "repack"...which I absolutely hate by the way. Stick with GB stuff for now, until people figure out how to include everything in one fancy .zip file.

This is not accurate information, actually. Removing just the triangle will do nothing to restore your warranty if you do not take care of your binary counter as well.
It should read NO for your warranty to be OK. Any other value (1 or higher) will void it. You can see what your counter says when booting into download mode (volume down + home + power), it's in the top left hand corner.
And BTW, Triangle Away app works only on ICS roms - don't use it on GB ones.
Oh yeah correct! Missed adding that info as was rushing out of office and it was the last thing i was doing! Thanks much for the correction and info!

I would request for a clarification - when I boot into download mode using CWM, the screen only shows the Android figure and a message about not to turn off the target. There was no "0" or "1" etc.
Does that mean my binary counter is at 0?

The official firmware can be used to restore your tablet to its factory state, which means that it can be used as an escape route if you ever need to revert to stock firmware. For instance, this can be very handy if you stumble upon an bad or misbehaving custom ROM that makes your tablet malfunction.
This guide shows you how to revert the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3113 to Android 4.0.4 ICS build UEBLH2 (stock official firmware).
Warning
The instructions in this guide are intended for use with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, model number GT-P3113. Applying these instructions on another device or model may produce undesired outcomes.
The information in this guide is provided for instructional and educational purposes only. There is no guarantee that these instructions will work under your specific and unique circumstances.
Use these instructions at your own risk. We shall not hold any responsibility or liability for whatever happens to you or your device arising from your use of the info in this guide.
Read and understand the whole guide first before actually performing the instructions.
Requirements
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113
A Windows PC
Install your handset’s USB drivers on the PC. You may install the drivers by installing Samsung Kies.
Enable USB debugging on your handset.
Disable antivirus, firewall, and other security software. Also disable Samsung Kies and other software that accesses your phone. Such software can interfere with the procedure in this guide.
Download the following files to your computer:
UEBLH2 firmware update package for Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GT-P3113 (P3113UEBLH2_P3113XARBLH2_XAR.zip, 785 MB)
Odin 3.04 (Odin3_v3.04.zip, 456.59 kB) (Attatched)
Make sure your device’s battery still has at least 70% power. You don’t want the device to shut down in the middle of the procedure.
Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.
Instructions
Using ZIP extraction software, extract the *.tar.md5 file contained in the UEBLH2 firmware update package.
Extract the contents of Odin3_v3.04.zip to your computer.
Turn off your tablet. Make sure it is not hooked up to your PC.
Run Odin on your computer by double-clicking Odin3 v3.04.exe.
Click the PDA button in Odin and load the *.tar.md5 file contained in the UEBLH2 firmware update package that you unzipped.
Do not change any other setting in Odin. Make sure that the checkbox for “Re-partition” is not ticked.
Reboot the tablet into Download Mode by holding down the Volume Down and Power buttons until you see the warning screen. Press the Volume Up key to continue to Download Mode.
Connect the tablet to your PC via USB cable. You should see an “Added!” message on the Odin window.
Click the Start button in Odin to begin flashing the firmware to your tablet. When installation completes and succeeds, Odin will display a “PASSED” message in one of its boxes. The tablet will also automatically reboot.
If, on rebooting, the screen gets stuck at the Samsung logo, try resolving it by doing the following:
Turn off the tablet.
Boot into Recovery Mode by holding down Power and Volume Up buttons together until the screen turns on. When the Samsung logo appears, let go of the Power button but keep holding down the Volume Up button until the device boots into recovery.
In Recovery Mode, select Wipe data/Factory reset and select Yes on next screen.
Select Reboot system now to reboot the tablet
Congratulations! You’ve successfully reverted your Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 to Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich build UEBLH2.

NO, not disable before downloading, disable your AV before using Odin to flash, as IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT that some AV programs can cause issues with flashing ROM's.

If you are having issues disabling your antivirus software, then don't disable it. I never disable mine. The only reason I added it to the post is because in rare cases the AV can cause issues for some reason or another.

I think you misunderstand, when flashing files VIA ODIN certain antiviruses have been known to cause issues, personally I never have but it is a standard disclaimer on ANY Device to computer connection, when doing debugging or flashing not file transfers, I see the same disclaimer on all the Droid Razr Utility builds, and most ROM's being flashed via ODIN, it's rare but it could happen.
I think the reason for disabling your AV,is because it and your pc dont know the difference. When you run a program that flashes 'firmware' like Odin,it can be detected as malicious and blocked.HTC recommends the same thing for flashing with their exe files, and thats the same reason why its recommended during most rooting process'.

i d/led the zip file and i have odin3 running. the only difference between my odin3 and the pic op posted is the com3 in the top left. i have nothing in that area. all the other fields look identical.
when i try to flash my n4, nothing is happening. the log just says all threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0).
any help would be appreciated, thanks

If you are actually planning to use another rom, then wait... (also gives you a remote chance that someone actually creates a root procedure without tripping Knox) (that procedure will stop you from flashing roms too, lol... Since you will not be able to flash roms) Otherwise... If you just want root and plan to use the stock rom... (and don't care about Knox) Then go ahead... In my opinion, just my opinion... If you haven't done so already... Just wait a week or so... It doesn't hurt.

How long do we think it will be before someone drops a fully loaded custom rom for the tmo N4? I love this phone but is gathering dust due to the fact that I'm dependent on wifi tether and I haven't found a way to get around T Mobile without root.

Don't do anything else until you know what your doing. From what you've said, two key things you haven't done yet...extracting the .tar file from your download, and it seems as though you haven't installed the drivers for the phone on your computer since you have nothing showing up in your com port. Read the guide, then read again, then one last time. After that, youll be a pro! Good luck!

Make sure you give your PC time to install the drivers for your phone. My PC took about 10 minutes to install them.
Also make sure you are in Download Mode on your device.. (Explained in guide).
I'm having the same issue others have where flash keeps failing.
I've tried on 2 different comps ,different downloads ,rebooting numerous times Odin 3.07 and 3.09. My phone updated to latest firmware soon as I turned the thing on. I've been unable to get root access using this method. Any insight ?

Need to be rooted if i just want to flash the stock rom?
Quick question guys,
Do I need to be rooted if i just want to flash the stock rom?
(Phone seems sluggish and I read that this went away after a wipe & clean install of stock rom through Odin?
Thank you,

Odin flashing the official stock firmware from http://SamMobile.com does not
require root, and if you do have root before odin flashing the official stock firmware
you will loose it and will have to re-root after odin flashing official stock firmware.
Good luck!
I am having a very annoying issue here in this thread , I need some advice thanks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2922876
This guide applicable to Sprint Note 4?
Are the steps in this guide the same for the Sprint Model of the Note 4 SM-N910P? I am wondering whether the SD card fix step is needed. I had a problem with Titanium Backup not being able to modify the extSD card but I fixed that by adding a line to platform.xml. What are the problems that the SD card fix repairs on the T-Mobile phone?
I copied my comment from the main thread --
So after I flashed root, then the recovery, I am now unable to use a portion of my screen in an L like shape (the scribbled portion of the screenshot). I've done some searching and it seems to happens to some other people. Anyone aware of any fixes for such a thing or if it even is fixable? It seems like some devices don't like being rooted.
I'm aware this is the TMO area, but I used your tutorial with the sprint files.
EDIT: After doing some searching, some people have stated that the flip covers magnet can cause issues, but still don't get how when this happened after rooting :/

My issue is the same, too. Touch more or less dies, but the S-Pen is still fine.
EDIT EDIT: Some people with this issue suggested a custom kernel with possible fixed/updated drivers. Gonna try that

You have to use Odin to flash back to kit Kat, root with towel root, and upgrade to lollipop with muniz_ri 's keep root update. Read the Firmware/Guide Repository stickied at the top of the General section

If you don't know how to use Odin I would not attempt to do this. Odin is a very powerful program that modifies low level functions. You risk permanently bricking your phone if you mess something up.
All the instructions are there in the sticky if you still want to try, you just need to follow the steps exactly as they are written in the i537 Firmware Guide. The pictures show you where to place files in Odin.

Download link extract all four files in the zip to your desktop. Download Odin attached to this post. Also extract that folder to your desktop. Run Odin by double clicking the .exe file. Power your phone on in download mode (shut it down, then power it on holding down power and vol-) and plug it in USB to your PC. Now select all four of those files you downloaded; the names should be intuitive, but if not, it should look exactly like the following picture:

Odin takes a long while, let it do its thing, there will be at least one or two automatic reboots and a boot into recovery, all automated so just put the damn thing down and let it run its course. After a while it'll eventually boot into the setup wizard for kitkat, as if the phone is brand new. Great, it's now on kitkat, root it with towelroot, which is a one-click root application for Samsung devices. Install and run SuperSU from the play store. Finally you are ready to upgrade to lollipop while keeping root
Just want to give you an update you on what I did. I did what you told me to do exactly and the first time I did it, it did its whole process but when it rebooted it kept flashing the screen on and off on a one second interval. So I restarted, and then it got stuck in the "Samsung Galaxy S4 Active" Boot screen for an hour. Im going to retry a third time to see if it works.
Ok so i did it for a third time and it worked. I guess it just had to keep resetting or something? Thankyou, that was very much needed.

Hi,
I just did this method to get from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2 kitkat, I used all those files in your links.
My only question when going with Towelroot is, I need to either hide root from apps, or, unroot, after I convert an app to a system app.
My goal is simply to convert an app to system app. So I want to: root device, convert to system app using Link2SD(1 click conversion), then unroot. So, i cannot flash back to an unrooted version, as I believe that will rid the device of the newly converted system app.
Thanks!

We humans are not all made the same, so when presented with identical stimulae we act in different ways.
Some people(like me), when we start reading a tutorial that starts with this...
"Before you start:
-This tutorial assumes you understand how to use adb and fastboot
-If you plan to also install custom kernels, install it after Magisk
-Your device’s bootloader has to be unlocked"
... we interpret it like this: "You should NOT start(continue reading) this tutorial UNLESS/UNTIL you fulfil the criteria listed in the BEFORE YOU START" so we stop reading any further if we clearly do not fulfill the "before you start" criteria.
In 99% of the cases, this is the right and most logical choice, this seems to have been an exception.
Saying that I "didn't bother" implies that I was lazy when choosing, but it was just the opposite: Because I understood there was knowledge about stuff that I didn't possess, I went to look for and gain this knowledge in other places.

Ok, that's fair enough. I guess you only have 1 thing to learn then, which is how to use adb and how to download it to your PC. Ignore fastboot, doesn't work on Samsung devices anyway.

Yeah but for the purposes of rooting with magisk, fastboot is not needed in Samsung since Odin is going to do all the work (bless Odin you beautiful piece of software you)
I use OSX(Mac) but see that several of the tools mentioned, like Odin, only work in PC. What is recommended in this case? Should I install a virtual windows machine(i.e VmWare) for this purpose?

I don't know if there's a Mac equivalent to Odin but it's pretty much the essential thing you need to work in order to root with Magisk so yeah I think you'll have to set up a Windows VM

Yes, as long as
1) You can unlock your bootloader to accept custom images
2) You have a way to use adb and fastboot (or in Samsung's case, adb and Odin)
Hi, I have followed the Magisk rooting instructions:
Installation
The Magic Mask for Android
topjohnwu.github.io
and I am now at the step of using Odin, which says:
"Open Odin on your PC, and flash magisk_patched.tar as AP, together with BL, CP, and CSC (NOT HOME_CSC because we want to wipe data) from the original firmware"
Do I have Odin properly set as in my screenshot? And "flash" means now clicking on the "Start" button?

If so, can you please point me what I am doing wrong and what should I do instead?
Thanks.
Flash like this instead:
BL - Firmware BL_* file
AP - magisk_patched-25200
CP - Firmware CP_* file
CSC - CSC [Will format data]

What this means is that the original firmware has a files that names start with AP_, BL_, CP_ and CSC_ (also HOME_CSC).
The guide is telling you that including your magisk patched AP file, you should also flash your stock firmware BL, CP and CSC files. Your provided screenshot shows that you only have the magisk patched file loaded but not the others. If you flash this way you can mess up your data partition, which is what @Zillion is referencing.
