Can some one compile or point me to a cifs.ko that is compatible with the incredible. The ones I can find do not seem to be. Thanks in advance.
Interesting

Alot of the roms for other phones have it but its not compatible with out kernel. Is there a guide how to compile kernels? I made a couple in linux that worked. long ago..
here ya go...what app are you using to browse CIFS shares? I haven't tested this module, but just compiled it now.
Forgive me as I haven't actually tried this, but here is the 10,000 foot view:
At a minimum, you will need a linux system, with a gcc-arm cross compiler set up. I believe the android-sdk provides one. The version used by current kernels is gcc-4.4.4.
Then you will need the sources of the kernel you are running. The hydra kernel git tree is here: http://github.com/ejhart/Hydra-kernels.git , and the stock kernel sources are here: http://member.america.htc.com/download/RomCode/Source_and_Binaries/incrediblec_cc1c2268.tar.bz2
The hydra git tree doesn't seem to have a a working .config included, but this isn't so important if you are only building and installing kernel modules. From there, you'll need to configure the kernel in cross compiler mode, add the modules you want, and you will need to make sure the version magic string is identical to the kernel you are using. From there run make, and once the compile is finished, find the .ko 's you want, and push them to the /system/modules folder where you can insmod them.
Edit: You can use the .config from /proc/config.gz, didn't see it in there before.

I got one from another user but thanks do you still want me to try it? I mounted my share in a directory on the SDCARD so i can browse it with any file manager. I think any app that scans the sd card will also scan my server with about 8TB so that is a minor issue.
kernel compile guide
A guide for compiling kernels can be found here :
http://code.google.com/p/android-serialport-api/wiki/Htc
I not a techie and a newbie at any android development.
Since the guide is more or less a a set of instructions with no theory.
Got it to run, but not sure what I was doing.
Any assistance in provide either cifs.ko for the HTC Aria w/ kernel version :

appreciated.
BTW - there an app on the store for automating the CIFS mount (CIFSManager

Note that the post you quote was from before the 2.2 OTA, and hence that cifs.ko would be incompatible with the current kernel.

Hello!
I've spend some days to compile JB for TPT ROW 32Gb. And there are the following results:
Works:
--Display. Interface is _very_ smooth
--Pen
--Automatic brightness
--External SD
--USB host
--Bluetooth
--WiFi (Partially: Signal strength indicator broken. Disable avoiding poor networks in advanced menu)
--GPS
--Internal sdcard
Doesn't work:
--Camera
--3G
--Sound
I also had to repack boot image to include configuration changes (init* files).
See attached logcat.
next step I will try to add proprietary source files for Wifi and camera and compile JB again.

Great work mate! I assume that if we want to test this later on our tablets, we need to be rooted?

Woohoo! Look forward to trying this!
This is amazing work! Thank you.
I see Lenovo finally released the ICS source code. Maybe this will help you get some other stuff working.
Also, how were you able to flash your build? Have you not upgraded to OTA3? I'm assuming you still have CWR working.
Thanks again.
Great work, thanks! I'm glad that there is work going on!
Great news! As I installed ota3 before rooting my device, I hope that there will be some way to get cwm and root working...

Very happy that you're working on a new ROM for our device!!!
And I really hope that someone finds a way to root OTA3 since I was also too dumb to do that before updating.
Cheers!
Wow!! Keep up the good work!!!
can't wait, great work!
Great!
I thought I will be first
According to full_indigo device ID, it is AOSP, not CM? Wow..
I think together we could at last make 3G work as other hw are relatively easy to fix(may be not true for camera as sources again changed). I familiar with Qualcomm RIL framework and can't wait to see how it works with tablet and more opensource hardware module..

Lenovo released ICS open source code but they forgot to release new kernel sources. This prevents me from building bcmdhd driver instead of bcm4329. It looks like JB is oriented for NL80211 wireless interface and not WEXT.
this isnt for the K1 is it
It's for tpt only
When can we see this in a flashable version? Not to sound pushy, I know we have all see the development slow down.
Are there any other tricks we need to get this up and running? I flashed partition 7 and 8 using NVflash but my tablet is stuck in a boot loop at "lenovo"
EDIT: Is this incompatible with CWM recovery?

Not to sound stupid but what is TPT? I have a K1 as well and am wondering if this will work?

yes I also tried to get more info but for now no response. At last they released external folder of their custom build, which also contains alsa-audio, as I seen in cm9 device tree, it should fix audio with ease(maybe after patch as sources again changed in JB).

Some of existing software probably blocks normal startup. It is always advised to clean dalvik-cache and user data (backup first). It's up to you.
Right after Lenovo logo you should see 'Android: Optimizing applications' or something similar.
I tried to boot Ubuntu on tf701t a lot of times. I made something, but i have a lot of problem. I need some help.
So, to boot Ubuntu necessary a few things:
1) Kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2520862 I hope it's done.
2) Ramdisk with init. That is the most problematic part. I try to compile initrd same as to tf700 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026919) but nothing happend.
3) Rootfs. I think the tf700t's one suit. There are not much difference between tf700 and tf701
4) Blobs. I don't know is it necessary. I think, if kernel initialize screen (via framebuffer) and processor, blobs are not needed.
I think, that's all. I'll be glad for any ideas.

I was testing simple linux features like font changing, seeing images through fbi program, flashing arduino by avrdude, etc. Everything works. Also backlight is controllable. But unfortunately I couldn't run X nevertheless framebuffer output is working. I need help because I don't know how works the Android graphics output and how I can use it in pure linux.

In this post, I would like to explain what kexec-hardboot patch is.
@kernel developers: I would like to ask you to merge this patch to your kernels, because it is essential part of MultiROM - it allows to boot any kernel without changing the boot partition. I realize that it is no small request, but the patch is not big, touches relatively stable parts of kernel and should not cause any problems. Thank you.
What is kexec?
It is syscall of Linux kernel, which allows you to boot another Linux kernel without restarting the device - "Linux boots itself". The functionality is equivalent to fastboot -c *cmdline* boot zImage initrd.img, but without PC and fastboot. It is fairly known thing, so more info at wikipedia and man kexec.
What is the difference between normal and hardboot exec?
Kexec-hardboot patch adds a real device restart to that process, so that all the drivers can be properly reinitialized. It stores new kernel to RAM, reboots the device as usual, and kernel from boot partition immediately jumps to the one which was stored to RAM before reboot.
Unlike grouper's kexec-hardboot patch, this one only requires the host kernel to be patched. This is one of the improvements Tasssadar made, and I think it is pretty significant.
To sumarize the process:
kexec --load-hardboot.... is called and kernel it loaded into RAM.
kexec -e is called. Special info is written to memory (to area which is not overwritten on reboot) and the device is rebooted.
After reboot, very early in the boot process, kernel checks if that special info is present in RAM and if so, it loads new kernel from RAM and jumps to it.
Kexecd' kernel starts and boots.
For more info, read the original thread.
Patches:
Kernel patch: https://gist.github.com/PatrikKT/50faf32e8931d51c0c9a,
This is the kernel patch. Only the host kernel needs to be patched.
Related CONFIG options:
CONFIG_KEXEC=y
CONFIG_KEXEC_HARDBOOT=y
CONFIG_PROC_DEVICETREE=y
CONFIG_ATAGS_PROC=n # This one is turned on automatically, but it is not needed, so you can disable it.
All these options must be enabled.
Userspace kexec binary: https://github.com/Tasssadar/kexec-tools
I had to change some things in kexec userspace binary because of some kernel bugs, complete description is in that repository. You can get statically built binary at https://github.com/Tasssadar/multirom/blob/master/install_zip/prebuilt-installer/multirom/kexec
Usage:
Once you have the kernel patches and kexec userspace binary in place, just run following command to boot into new kernel:
Code:
kexec --load-hardboot zImage --initrd=initrd.img --mem-min=0x20000000 --command-line="$(cat /proc/cmdline)" --dtb
kexec -e
Note the command line parameter - cmdline from bootloader is not added automatically, you have to put it there by yourself.
Authors:
This patch was made by Mike Kasick for Samsung Epic 4G. Since that, it was ported to several devices, one of them is Asus Transformer TF201 - he used patch from TF201 and modified it a bit (basically just changed few SoC specific constants). People at #ubuntu-arm helped him out with that, thanks.
For hammerhead, he has improved the patch a bit - only the host needs to be patched now and he has added support for DTB.
This thread was used as a template Credits to @Tasssadar for his Nexus 5 patch

Not for common user, in epic4g kexec used by kernel devs to test a new kernel build without replace the existing kernel.
They just load a temporary kernel to test. Then that kernel will gone after a reboot.
Hope to see new kernels that support MultiRom! Great work man!
Would this allow a multiboot with AOSP and Stock roms?

The patch is not necessary at the moment, because of the locked bootloader. It's just for devs to be prepared with their kernel when we can unlock the bootloader, so that multirom will work as it should.

Download the patch file from first post and place it in the kernel root directory. Then you should use this command to check if there are any conflicts: git apply --check <path_to>.patch
If there are no errors, use this to apply: git apply <path_to>.patch

Hey, some changes need to be made to the patch.
On line 353, change the number from 22 to 21. Also, it has some errors when modifying head.S, which I had to fix manually..
But guys, my kernel is building with the latest multirom. This **** is going to maybe work soon!
I'll keep you all posted.
Thank you man
Guys, I think I've done it. Kexec hardboot patched kernel for 5.1.1 and thus multirom compliant, which I am preparing to build with twrp. this is very exciting.
When will it be ready?
Are you kidding me? No ETAs. I literally haven't even announce it yet and somebody asks for an ETA.... It will be ready once I test everything to boot well on my device.

Hi All,
I have been building permissive kernels for my own use for a while now, but the Note 5 kernel (both the "C" and "I" versions from Samsung open Source) is giving me fits. As you can see from my terminal output, I get through the creation of the image, the modules build fine, but when the firmware install makefile starts, I get an error I've never seen before, even if I have made no changes at all to the source code:
Code:
OBJCOPY arch/arm64/boot/Image
GZIP arch/arm64/boot/Image.gz
Building modules, stage 2.
MODPOST 2 modules
CC net/ipv4/tcp_htcp.mod.o
LD [M] net/ipv4/tcp_htcp.ko
CC net/ipv4/tcp_westwood.mod.o

[B]/home/parallels/ANDROID/KERNEL/920c_kernel/scripts/Makefile.fwinst:45: target `/lib/firmware/tsp_stm/stm_z1.fw' given more than once in the same rule[/B].
I have looked at the cited section code, but don't see anything obvious. I have also google searched for this error way too thoroughly and PM'd some who have successfully compiled this kernel, but alas...
I am running Ubuntu 14.04 via Parallels on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite. As noted above, I am compiling from the Samsung OpenvSource files for The 920I and have also tried the 920C version, as well. As for toolchains, I have tried the Android NDK aarch64 4.9 toolchain, linaro aarch64 4.9 and linaro aarch64 5.2, all to no avail. I have tried make clean, make mrproper, deleted .ccache, etc., as well as using/not using -jX.

ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

It is related to modules compiling from what I can gather. If I use Ktoonsez source, I don't get that error. However, I notice it doesn't compile any modules. I still get an Image in my boot directory. Do you? I think the kernel itself is safe to use. You could probably ignore this error.

HA! I googled the error a million times and never saw your repo! I wasn't sure if removing "stm_z1.fw tsp_stm" from the makefile would screw anything up, but apparently it doesn't. Many thanks, sir!
It's odd that others have built with the same sources (920C, mainly, from what I have seen), and have not changed that section of the makefile, but still succeeded in their build. I wonder what it is about my setup that caused this error. Anyway, not an issue now. Thanks again.

$(installed-fw): $(INSTALL_FW_PATH)/%: $(obj)/% | $(INSTALL_FW_PATH)/$$(dir %)
$(call cmd,install)
Here is the actual terminal error message:
/home/seth/S6-Kernel_Parent/Extracted_S6_Source/Kernel.tar/scripts/Makefile.fwinst:45: target `/lib/firmware/tsp_stm/stm_z1.fw' given more than once in the same rule.
So I'm confused.
EDIT: Nevermind I'm an idiot. I found it. Thank you so much!! Finally solved

Uhm somehow. I used a script which ignored that error as your kernel image is already built and you shouldn't care about modules. But if you still want a fix then see my commit: https://github.com/minealex2244/AldeXus/commit/e89301766b3d251b285649a38ee4dea4f2871b99
This commit shows you what to remove (it may be the perfect fix or just an example of what you should do in your code).
Tell me if it helped.
Broken link
Hey, I'm having the same issue but I can't find your commit, could you please fix the link?. Thanks in advance.
