i found a guide in the Nexus S forums to Add date to the top bar. (and removed from dropdown)
ported to ICS SGS project (AOSP ICS) for captivate by ME!!!
DOWNLOADS AT BOTTOM OF 1st POST
built on RC3.1 but will work on all versions. no ICSSGS release is perfect, so not going to worry about multiple versions unless I feel there is a real reason to.
made the zip to delete .odex file as this apk is de-odexed. so IT WORKS ON BOTH!!!
Battery mod included.
Right Hand Date ( Giggidy.. I had a right hand date last night..)

Centered Date/Time - smaller font
Made to work with trial and error combining two mod guides... and changing font size to 12. that was all me!

Note: if you enable every statusbar icon(bt, vibrate,alarm,wifi etc) it will look messy cause the clock overlapse the icons...
Enjoy the Effin Mods!!
edits posted below.. the centre mod took a bit of playing around, original date centering guide was for AOKP (kang project) not AOSP (had centred time to begin with)
1. TO ADD DATE:
You have to decompile SystemUI.apk
Go to file: SystemUI.apk\res\layout\status_bar.xml
find the line looks like this... (line 15 ish..)
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.Clock android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/clock" android:paddingLeft="6.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
change androidaddingLeft= to "4.0dip"go to the beginning of the clock code and insert a line above it, paste this line above clock code
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.DateView android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Date" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/date" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/clock" />
so it will look like this.... (keeping spacing in-line)
Code:
</LinearLayout>
[COLOR=Red]<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.DateView android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Date" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/date" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/clock" />
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.Clock android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/clock" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />[/COLOR]
</LinearLayout>
above in the original clock line, I set the
Code:
android:paddingLeft="4.0dip"
(was 6.0dip) to the same value as date, so they have the same space at the left.
With this setup, you will always see date and then clock at the right of the statusbar(I haven't test something else yet).
if you want to delete the date from the notification header, do the following:
in the file: SystemUI.apk\res\layout\status_bar_expanded.xml delete the following line
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.DateView android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Date" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/date" android:paddingLeft="16.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" />
and in the line
Code:
<ImageView android:id="@id/settings_button" android:paddingLeft="8.0dip" android:paddingRight="8.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:src="@drawable/ic_notify_quicksettings" android:layout_toRightOf="@id/date" android:contentDescription="@string/accessibility_settings_button" />
replace the
Code:
android:layout_toRightOf="@id/date"
with the following(it maybe not crucial, but I did it)
Code:
android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
it should look something like that
the text size is probably looking different between date and clock, so in the file SystemUI.apk\res\values\styles.xml is the text size of both.
clock
Code:

and date
Code:

I changed both with
Code:

12.0sp

HOW TO CENTER CLOCK/DATE AFTER FIRST MOD
2. CLOCK FIRST...
-navigate to your decompiled folder and go to res>layout>status_bar.xml
-look for this line:
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.Clock
-delete the entire original clock line
-next go to the top of your status_bar.xml and place your cursor at the end of this line:
Code:
xmlns:systemui="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.android.systemui">
-press "enter" to create an empty line
-place your cursor at the beginning of that empty line and paste this line of code:
Code:
<LinearLayout android:gravity="center" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.DateView android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Date" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/date" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/clock" />
</LinearLayout>
-make sure everything lines up (see my xml below)
-lastly, find this line:
Code:
<LinearLayout android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@id/ticker"
-right after "@id/ticker" add this drawable:
Code:
android:background="@drawable/status_bar_bg_tile"
3. NOW DATE....
now find, copy & delete (or cut) the line we modded in 1st part (adding date):
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.DateView android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Date" android:gravity="left|center" android:id="@id/date" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:layout_toLeftOf="@id/clock" />
and place it in the part pasted at the top, above the line...
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.Clock android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock" android:gravity="center" android:id="@id/clock" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
so it will look like..... full xml - changes in RED..
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.phone.PhoneStatusBarView android:orientation="vertical" android:background="@drawable/status_bar_background" android:focusable="true" android:descendantFocusability="afterDescendants"

Will this work on fuzion ics
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
I think fusion is built off of CM9. So it won't work. If it is built off ICS SGS then it will
Thanks a million TR...worked perfect on first try of both mods...nice work and I'll hit thanks when I get off work.

This is great thanks!

Love the way it looks. I am on the Kang CM9 RC0 right now and wish it worked on that. I assume if I flash it my stuff will be broken. So, I will wait for another version to magically appear somewhere maybe.
well if you use the guide part of the first post, and a little playing around, I'm sure it would be possible.

I may mess around with and see what I can do. I love the way it looks. As a matter of fact if I could get this working I wouldn't need a huge widget on my main screen to display this info anymore. I have gone as far as extracting the xml files, but I am on a windows box and it doesn't like the XML format. Says it is corrupt, illegal characters etc. I will look around at some more of the modding guides and see if I can find a XML editor that will work. It seems most are still geared toward 2.2-2.2 versions of the OS. My knowledge is limited, as I am not a developer anyway.
Maybe I won't brick it.
I use windows only... Use notepad++ to edit... Anything...
And don't worry there is absolutely no risk of bricking your phone. At Worst, a bunch of force closes until you restore the original APK
Did you decompile APK properly? (right way) Or just use win rar? (wrong way). The winrar method will only work changing images

Yeah, I seem to have taken a wrong turn with the winrar way. I saw information about apktool a few minutes ago and I just got it installed. So I will see if I can get to work this time through. Thanks for the info.
to de-compile ICS apks without error you will have to find the new updated AAPT.exe files and add them to the apktools ... ? bin folder??? er... sorry not at home. look through its folders and find the old one, and replace with new. ALSO add the updated AAPT files to " C:/Windows/ " as some times it will look for it there and other tools may install it there as well. I was unable to de-compile until i added it there.
APK_Manager ... er updated name...?? APK toolbox??
apktools...
xda auto-tools...
all does the same things and all need the aapt update to decompile ICS as they all use the same base tools through a different GUI...

I was wondering if it would be possible to hide the clock on the status bar but keep it in extended view?
Or a step further remove the icons when the status bar is extended?

I had the same thought the other day. Someone brave could go mention in in the cyanogenmod forum.
I finally submitted this to CM issue tracker http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=3643. Could you guys please star this so that it would get more exposure?
Starred this @ Google Code.
This lack of functionality is one of the few things left that irks me about my home and lock screens.
It is possible, ill look into it.

What did you exactly change
Using miui and a date changing mod I have been able to accomplish just this feature.
As standard on miui it shows the date in the status bar but using an extended settings mod from the miuiandroid forums I changed the to display the time in the format h:mm, it's even centred on the statusbar.

I have made the changes in my SystemUI.apk, but I am stuck at the resigning process.
If I push the APK without resigning, it refuses to run because of the invalid signature.
If I resign with the platform keys, I get certificate errors complaining about the manifest.
To modify the package, I used the latest APKTool from Google Code to decode and build the APK, and made my changes with a text editor.
To resign the package, I downloaded the platform keys from the Git repo, and used keytool-importkeypair.sh (Google) to create a keystore. I signed the APK with jarsigner, and pushed it to my phone.
Can someone help me figure out why the unsigned package won't execute, or how to properly resign the package instead?

Use APKManager to resign it, you can zip as a system apk or as a regular apk. System apk's do not need signing afaik. If the phone is connected and detectable using adb, it'll also install it for you
Another method is to use Root Explorer
I tried some more with apktool, tried APKManager, (which is packaged with a horribly outdated version of apktool at this point,) and even tried MetaMorph. All of them had the same result. As a side-note, you're absolutely correct in saying that system APKs should not be signed, and thanks for the reminder.
A post at the CM forums suggests this might be a problem for others on CM7 as well, but I can't find anything that explains or supports this.
I also tried applying the Statusbar Pulldown Mod for MM, but it yields the same problems.
I'm going to give up on this one, but I'm pretty curious to see if anyone else gets this to work, (especially on gingerbread-evo-deck1.3b.)
As soon as the Sensation gets CM7, I'm trying this mod. So I'll report back on my findings
@redbullcat - If you're comfortable with a little potential failure, you can give it a shot on any ROM that displays a status bar with a clock. Basically, within the status_bar.xml file, there will be an element that declares the clock, by some name. If you move this element to the bottom, so that it directly neighbors the date element, you should be all good. Just be careful where you make your incision, and as with any mod, don't even try if you won't be able to 'adb push' a backup of the APK in the event that something goes wrong.

Hey, so I can't figure out where I'm going wrong. I'm attempting this mod on my Captivate, not running CM7.
I decompile the APK, edit the .xml file, compile the .apk, and then flash back to my phone.
I lose the status bar after flashing the zip file. Am I failing to compile the .apk correctly, or failing at editing the .xml correctly?
Here is my attempted .xml edit.
Code:

<com.android.systemui.statusbar.StatusBarView android:orientation="vertical" android:background="@drawable/statusbar_background" android:focusable="true" android:descendantFocusability="afterDescendants"

As you can see, I've managed to center the clock and switch the notification and system icons around.
So I've only tested this mod on CM7 and HDPI.
I can't see why it wouldn't work on other gingerbread roms, pretty certain all gingerbread have the same type of statusbar.xml to play around with.
Things you need -
APKmanager
Notepad++
rootexplorer
How to do it: Use rootexplorer to grab your systemui located system>app.
Decompile it with APKmanager, go into the layout folder and edit the statusbar.xml.
For those who want to just edit the clock here is the code to do it.
find the
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.Clock' delete that whole line and paste this above the linear layout
(edit:I updated the clock code to help centering, it'll now be centered for any screensize.)
Code:
<LinearLayout android:gravity="center" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.Clock android:textAppearance="@android:style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Icon" android:textSize="15.0sp" android:typeface="normal" android:textStyle="normal" android:textColor="#ffffffff" android:gravity="center" android:paddingTop="3.0px" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:layout_weight="1.0" />
</LinearLayout>
If you want the whole mod, heres a copy of my XML
Code:

<com.android.systemui.statusbar.StatusBarView android:background="@drawable/statusbar_background" android:focusable="true" android:descendantFocusability="afterDescendants" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"

You will need to change things to fit your own statusbar.xml. I'm on a old nightly for CM7 so it won't have as many things. So you'll have to play around and see what fits.
Once you edited, save the xml, compile with APKmanager, press Y to both questions, then deleted the resources file and statusbar.xml in the KEEP folder, sign it and then make a flashable zip and flash it over. Or replace the systemui with rootexplorer.
-----
Bugs to far: I can't seem to get the notification icons go all the way to the right side, It's not so bad because i've got the battery in place and the gap from the edge fits the battery perfectly, but it's annoying if you don't have the battery % on. I'm sure it's possible to alter it, I'm just not so great with XML.
Also the notifications overlap the clock when they get to the middle, I know how to fix that one, but just to lazy to bother as I never have that many notifications going on. The width of the notification display just needs changing.
Play around with it. Let me know how it goes.
-------
Notification mod now
Right, I've now themed the pulldown menu, I'm currently using images from the MEIZU theme as I was testing it out.
This is done by editting the status_bar_expanded.xml, replace lines that match yours.

nice work - but you got many smilies in your code
may you should use the code-tags
Wouldn't it be possible to add this into a theme chooser apk ?
This is really interesting. Will have a look how to get it on miui rom. Thanks for sharing!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
just tried this.. and my statusbar disapeared
Will continue to work on it.
Hmm weird.. Just tried to push the old SystemUI.apk to the phone (The original).. Rebooted, and the status bar is still gone :-?
EDIT: Nope, it's here again
EDIT 2: Just tried decompiling the APK, and compiling it again without making any changes. Then pushing it to the device and rebooting. My statusbar is still disapearing.
Am I doing something wrong? (Using apktool instead of APKmanager, 'cause im on a mac)

There, added codetags
and I don't think so. I don't think the theme chooser has the same statusbar.xml. I haven't really looked tbh, though.

Hmm, are you signing the APK? I've only done it on aPKmanager, so not sure! also only done it with flashing the APK via recovery, too. I know in APKmanager you need to choose the systemapp options, does apktool have that? never used it, so not sure.

Nope, not signing the apk. Maybe I should try that.
APKtool doesn't have systemapp options. It's pretty basic, it's only possible to compile/decompile without very many options.

Hmm.. signed the APK using test-keys.. Same result..
You don't happen to know a way to create a flashable .zip without apkmanager?
Could this be made into a flash zip? I can never get these things to work right and would feel safer using a zip

I used uotkitchen for my flashable zip. I got it when I used it for the transparent status bar patch, Just upload your systemui.apk

I can't make it a flashable zip because every rom uses a different setup in the statusbar.xml. So it'll just result in crashing your statusbar.

Would you mind to share your CM7 systemui.apk?

Nope, it's even worse for CM7, every nightly seems different from what I've seen. My version is from nightly 24, so any version of CM7 after that will have a different systemui.apk.

Seems like i have to do this on my own..
got it working
decompiling the APK, edit the statusbar.xml file, compiling again, putting it into an empty CWM3 edify zip file, and flashing!
Now my clock is on the right , and everything else on the left.. Next step, to get the clock centered
hmm. I've edited the line you're telling us to, but I'm getting different result

Same for me
Used this zip: http://www.multiupload.com/ELFHMGUBLE
Open it with winrar (don't extract it), replace the SystemUI.apk file in /system/app/ with the one you've compiled. Then save the zip file again. (DON'T extract at any time, cause that will break the signing of the zip file).
Now you can flash through recovery

Move the clock line to above the linear layout. that way it'll be in the center. At the moment it's getting shoved aside by the notifications.

Now you can flash through recovery

did everything you said as well and still no bar the zip file worked though so thanks for that

I might leave the scene and go back to CM7, I’ll just leave some important pointers in theming the ROM. As editing image is fairly easy, I will start with xml’s and editing font colors, background size etc.
Tools you need:
1. A program to decompile an APK
2. A program to edit xml’s (I prefer Notepad++)
3. Hex color sampler (Color-Hex)
4. Basic knowledge editing xml’s
5. Patience

The ones posted here has nothing to do with status bar font colors yet. If you have my ICS Theme zip grab colors.xml and styles.xml in framework-res. Styles.xml in framework-res is also an important one to edit, study it. You can edit there the sliders (volume bar) thickness too like with the ICS theme, menu/options (pressing the soft key) font colors etc.
Notifications in status bar like receiveing txt, USB/USB Debug notif status_bar.xml. Sample is ICS Blue font color.
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.TickerView android:id="@id/tickerText" android:paddingTop="2.0dip" android:paddingRight="10.0dip" android:layout_width="0.0dip" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_weight="1.0">

Be sure you are editing in framework-res. NOT in SystemUI. Paste your modified xml here, i want to see it. from framework-res/res/layout
Man, you take this as a guide to theme XPERIA X10? I saw your ICS theme, it has all whites in that portion. P970 has all black font colors in that portion. It might be different,might. So just take it as a reference. Cause CM7 for P970 and V20N for P970 has differences. but I think status_bar_latest_event_content.xml is universal. You may search for it, start with "Where to find the colors for making a theme". But I think it is universal.

Now there's the problem. If you did not delete the xml, then it won't change. Try to decompile it again, you'd see it wasn't change right?
If it's P970, tell you what... just press "y" then "n". No deleting of xml's and you're done... That's what I do with mine, didn't have problems.

just decompile, and find the xmls. If you see black/near black, change and try if it changes.

the funny thing is that i didnt modified the downloadprovider.apk just music.apk
i found a soulution to fix but cant find those lines so it doesnt work
For the Music.apk you simply need to decompile the file with apktool as per 1a. Now go to /Music/res/layout/ and open statusbar.xml with editpad. Look for "?android:textAppearanceMediumInverse" and "?android:textAppearanceSmallInverse", simply remove the "Inverse" part from each line and save the file. Recompile, resign

Tickle My Android(I try it and so easy) Credits to Ticklefish
2.Brain and brave :laugh:
Method :
-Download smali.zip attachment and extract it
-Decompile your SystemUI.apk
-In your smali,,copy/paste extract file
systemUi/smali/here = smali/fx/dzolcp
-Then go to res/layout/status_bar.xml and add this line (copy from here)
Code:
<fx.dzolcp.Speed android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Speed" android:gravity="left|center" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
-Example
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.Clock android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Kecil" android:gravity="center" android:id="@id/clock" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />
<LinearLayout android:gravity="right|center" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1.0" android:layout_alignParentRight="true">
<LinearLayout android:gravity="center_vertical" android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@id/statusIcons" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" />
<ImageView android:layout_gravity="center_vertical" android:id="@id/stat_no_sim" android:paddingLeft="4.0dip" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" />
[COLOR="Red"]<fx.dzolcp.Speed android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Speed" android:gravity="left|center" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" />[/COLOR]
<LinearLayout android:gravity="center" android:orientation="horizontal" android:id="@id/signal_battery_cluster" android:paddingLeft="1.0dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<include android:id="@id/signal_cluster" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" layout="@layout/signal_cluster_view" />
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
</LinearLayout>
-Save and close file.
-Then open res/values/styles.xml
edit this at the end of line or you can copy/paste from here
Code:

</resources>
-Save and close file.
-Recompile back your SystemUi.apk..
-And let me know the result :good:

Yup, that's pretty much it.
framework-res.apk is what I call a "resource apk". It contains information that is needed to be able to decompile certain system apk's.
To make matters more confusing, the creator of apktool (the tool used by most people to decompile apk files) calls these sort of files "framework apk's".
Hopefully you'll start experimenting with decompiling apk's yourself before too long and you'll understand what this is all about. I was a newbie when I registered here and none of this made any sense to me at all! But keep with it, and it will all become second nature to you.

Nice!
can I use it with 7zip a copy/paste.?
One of the great things about Sony's recent roms is the battery text they provide. You no longer have to mod your battery icon yourself to get an exact percentage of your battery level.
But that means you don't really need the battery icon at all anymore. So this is how you get rid of it. And this is how you get rid of it the Awesome Way!
So this is what my phone looks like without any modding:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
To remove the battery icon, you need to decompile your SystemUI.apk with apktool. There are many ways of doing this, and many tools, and I'm not going to list them all. Personally I always use Tickle My Android but it's up to you what you use. Refer to your tools instructions and MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!
Once you've decompiled your SystemUI.apk, you need to edit res\layout\status_bar.xml. This looks like this:
Code:

<com.android.systemui.statusbar.phone.PhoneStatusBarView android:orientation="vertical" android:id="@id/status_bar" android:background="@color/system_ui_opaque_background" android:focusable="true" android:fitsSystemWindows="true" android:descendantFocusability="afterDescendants"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:systemui="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.android.systemui">
<ImageView android:id="@id/notification_lights_out" android:paddingBottom="2.0dip" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="@dimen/status_bar_icon_size" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:src="@drawable/ic_sysbar_lights_out_dot_small" android:scaleType="center" android:paddingStart="6.0dip" />

If you're new to Android xml, this can look a little overwhelming. But don't worry, we only need to deal with one line:
Code:
<ImageView android:id="@id/battery" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:paddingStart="4.0dip" />
This is the code that controls the battery icon. It's tempting to think that this line could just be deleted but that can actually cause problems. Instead we'll to add a certain parameter to make Android ignore this line completely.
Code:
<ImageView [COLOR="Red"]android:visibility="gone"[/COLOR] android:id="@id/battery" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:paddingStart="4.0dip" />
Save, compile, etc and you'll end up with something that looks this:
So this works. But...is it AWESOME?
Not yet. It all looks a little..odd. The battery text is smaller than the clock. So let's sort that out next. This is the battery text code:
Code:
<TextView android:layout_gravity="start|center" android:id="@id/battery_text" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/status_bar_settings_settings_button" android:singleLine="true" android:paddingStart="4.0dip" style="@style/SystemBarNotificationText" />
Remove the style parameter from near the end of the code and replace it with the textAppearance from the clock code:
Code:
<com.android.systemui.statusbar.policy.Clock android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock" android:gravity="start|center" android:id="@id/clock" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:paddingStart="6.0dip" />
Which gives us:
Code:
<TextView android:layout_gravity="start|center" android:id="@id/battery_text" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@string/status_bar_settings_settings_button" android:singleLine="true" android:paddingStart="4.0dip" android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock" />
And that, once you've saved, recompiled and everything else, looks like this:
So...is this AWESOME? No, not yet. This is just COOL. Read the next post to find out how to remove the battery icon in an even better way. In a way that's...can you guess...AWESOME!!
To remove the battery icon the AWESOME way, we need to do a bit more work.
First, decompile your original SystemUI.apk again and change the battery text in status_bar.xml as before. But, this time, don't edit the battery icon line. Instead cut and paste it to above the battery text line. Like this:
Code:

<com.android.systemui.statusbar.phone.PhoneStatusBarView android:orientation="vertical" android:id="@id/status_bar" android:background="@color/system_ui_opaque_background" android:focusable="true" android:fitsSystemWindows="true" android:descendantFocusability="afterDescendants"
xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
xmlns:systemui="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.android.systemui">
<ImageView android:id="@id/notification_lights_out" android:paddingBottom="2.0dip" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="@dimen/status_bar_icon_size" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:src="@drawable/ic_sysbar_lights_out_dot_small" android:scaleType="center" android:paddingStart="6.0dip" />
<com.sonymobile.systemui.statusbar.operator.OperatorLabel android:textAppearance="@style/TextAppearance.StatusBar.Clock" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:gravity="start|center" android:id="@id/operator" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:singleLine="true" android:paddingStart="6.0dip" android:paddingEnd="4.0dip" />

Save and then edit stat_sys_battery.xml in the drawable folder. Change it from:
Code:

<level-list

Still with me so far? Don't worry, we're nearly done.
Now all you need to do is extract stat_sys_battery_charge_anim100.png from the icons.zip attached to this post and copy it into your applicable drawable folder. For my fellow Z users, you need to copy it into drawable-xxhdpi.
Next, extract no_battery.png from the zip and copy it into your drawable-nodpi folder.
Save your edited xml files, recompile and so on.
And this is the result:
And here's how it looks when charging:
And there's only one word to describe this... AWESOME!!
Reserved..
That's really, really great tutorial!
Thank you for your work, it helped me a lot :good:
Great toturial. But if you make flashable zip.that would be better.

This works really well - need to be a bit careful about preparing the files correctly, but the above is a good example of the difference between giving a man a fish and he eats for a day, and teaching a man to fish, and he eats for the rest of his life.
Good job.
Can't see "no_battery.png" anywhere ....

I did that with some of my mods back when the XZ was new. The trouble is there are so many roms and so many recoveries that I would have to make lots and lots of zips and I'd have to keep updating them. Sadly, my children and my job don't give me that sort of time right now.
And the zip would undo any mods you've already done on your SystemUI.apk.
It's better, if slower, to find out how to make these mods yourself. If you know how to do this sort of thing then it might be you that makes the next tutorial!

I've changed that post slightly. Now there's a small zip to download that has the images in it, which should be a lot more convenient. Sorry about that.

Work perfect :good:
First of all thank you for this great guide.
I have a strange problem.
I use TMA to decompile systemui.apk and try to do the first hide the battery thing.
I found the line and edited it to:
<ImageView android:visibility="gone" android:id="@id/battery" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" androidaddingStart="4.0dip" />
Then recompile and then prepare it with opt 14 as a system apk.
Then i manually copied it into system/app and set permissions and rebooted, nothing has changed?
Then i did decompile the systemui.apk that i just copied to system/app only to find out that the line i edited is now like this:
<ImageView android:id="@id/battery" android:visibility="gone" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" androidaddingStart="4.0dip" />
Is it supposed to be like that? why have the "gone" parameter moved?
I must have done something wrong here, could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advanced.

Curious..
First of all, it's generally not a good idea to replace your SystemUI.apk, or framework-res.apk, while the phone's still running. You can get away with it, but it's a little like trying to replace the sparkplugs in your cars engine while you're driving it.
Not a perfect example but you get the idea. I've experienced strange bugs on three separate devices that were caused by doing this. In the case of the last device, I actually broke it.
That's why TMA has the ability to make zip files. That way you can replace critical system apps without the system actually running.
This might why you're getting problems here. It might not. But it's certainly bearing in mind.
The first thing you need to do here is work out whether your SystemUI.apk actually did get replaced or not. If it didn't, that's what you need to fix. If it did, then it's something else we need to look at.
So make a big change that will easy to spot. Take your battery ImageView line and cut/paste it underneath the line with rhe clock. Save, recompile and so on. If the battery icon hasn't moved, you know your apk hasn't changed.

I made a flashabel zip with the same result, nothing changed.
Tried to move battery beneath clock with no result. i tried to delete cash and dalvik to.
The apk is replaced and changed, if i pull it from the phone and decompile it i can see that battery is still beneath clock.
I think i made an error to think that this mod works on stock rooted odex rom?
Perhaps i need a deodexed rom?

It's a good question..but no. Whether it's odexed or not doesn't make any difference.
So your SystemUI's definitely changed but your statusbar hasn't? Interesting.. There are a few things that could be causing this but I'm sure we can resolve it.
Can you share a screenshot please? And also your apk's as well. I can take a look at them and see if I can sort it out for you.
