I'm gonna update the ROM tonight on my MDA, and was wondering if there is a free solution to backup my contacts and restore just the contacts with the new ROM? Thanks!
Oh, and without Microsoft Outlook might I add... I have other contacts stored in my copy of Outlook, and don't wish to use it.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information, put the copy of it on your storage card (or pc) and when reflashed change the new pim.vol to pim.vo and copy and paste old pim.vol (use total commander or gsfinder file explorers for this) and soft reset and you will have info back.
Also you can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Hello and respect to all XDA members
I have a question
What is (if it exists) the method through which one can transfer SMS and Contacts from an iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy S?
For contacts I used my google account ... but for SMS?
Thank you in advance!
If you want only your phone contacts to be transferred, you can try this:
1) Export all your contacts as vCard files
2) Connect the phone to your computer and mount the internal storage
3) Copy all the vCard files into the root of the mounted drive
4) Goto Contacts -> Menu -> Options -> Import/Export -> Import from SD Card
Worked flawlessly for me as I didn't want all my contacts on the cloud.
For SMS:
1. Copy your sms.db from your iPhone to your pc (this needs jailbreak and and an iphone explorer on your computer) - the file should be in /var/Mobile/Library/SMS
2. Upload the sms.db to this site -> http://faked.org/isms2droid/ it will convert the sms.db to an xml format android can read.
3. On Android, there's a free app named SMS Backup & Restore, where you can import the xml file.
I did that too and it worked flawlessly with 3000 messages that were 2.5 years old (I am too lazy to delete any messages...)
Great, thanks! I've been missing my old SMS Messages
XQC's post is great, however, it would be great if there's an arabic language support as the exported xml file gives (?) question marks on all arabic letters.
Hi guyz, recently I updated my rom version to 2.53.707.4... Before that I backup all my SMS and other stuffs using PPCPimBackupV2.8.. I had a folder called saved SMS in the previous version, so when I backup I saved all the massages in that folder too..
So after flashing I restore everything but when I got to massages through start and in the drop down menu I couldn't see the saved folder.. Previously we can juz go to all massages and view all the folders and even create a new folder but with the new rom I couldnt do so..
So is there any fix for it? Thanks in advance..
Hi!
I downloaded the latest Doc ROM and I wonder if there is a way to include in the zip file my sms, mms and contacts backuped with "My Backup Pro".
In data/app of the zipp file I add my favorite apk
I wonder if there is also a way to include my personal data in the zip file of the ROM.
Thank you!

Hello ,
I have the same problem :
I made a copy of my memo and backup << when I trying to open it in other android devices or on PC >> they give me this message>>
UNSUPPORT FILE
how I can do it please
thanks
my email is :

Hi, the "rnt" file is a compress file, change it to "zip" file and you will be bale to extract it.
There are two files inside: "richnote" and "richnote-journal", the date is on the "richnote" file and its a "SQlite" format.
In order to view the file install "SQlite Viewer" on Chrome (its an extension) and with you will be able to open the file and copy it as clear text to Excel.
