I'm trying to access a network share on a Win7 machine on my home network.
I was able to access it a couple of days ago but I'm now receiving an error that says:
java.lang.RuntimeException: Plain text passwords are disabled
I'm using Astro when I get this error.
I've tried using ES File Explorer but it fails to load the network share too.
I tried finding this error on this forum and on the web but can't find anything that seems related. Can anyone offer any help?
If it helps I'm using stock JVU.
Okay, problem fixed...
I uninstalled/reinstalled Astro and can now access my shares again
Real fix for problem:
1. Reboot to CWM.
2. Go to Advanced -> Fix permissions.
3. Reboot to Android, problem gone.

I'm not rooted, and I experience this same problem from time to time accessing a Windows 7 share in ES File Explorer on my Nexus 7 2013 edition. A reboot of the PC seems to fix it, but I'd prefer not to have to resort to it.
That's weird, I haven't had this problem for a really long time.
Sorry I can't help with it.

That message indicates a permissions problem on the target Windows computer.
1. Make sure the folder/file is actually shared (Check in the computer management console)
2. Make sure you have give explicit permissions to access it. Even if only one folder does not have the permissions, you will still get the message. In the shares section of the management console double click the desired share and check the permissions. Add your (login) ID to the permissions tab if necessary and tick the appropriate boxes.

Nah it was a permissions problem in Android.
Refer to my post three above yours where I posted how I fixed the problem.
Hello, just to add a bit of info here. I got the same error on 3 different Android devices simultaneously, so I figured fixing permissions on all of them won't work. What worked is restarting Server service on my Windows 7 x64 to which they tried to access. I also found info that this problem shows up periodically, so maybe setting up a Scheduled Task which will restart this service from time to time would also be beneficial.

I had to do the same thing. Very annoying. Other computers work fine, just Android stops.
I finally found the permanent solution.
Set the following registry key to ’1′:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache
and set the following registry key to ’3′:

Heres a strange one.....
Just recently tried to sync my MDA Compact 4 and got the following error message:
"Synchronization cannot be completed successfully. Reconnect your device and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSync Help on your desktop computer."
On investigating further, i tried the following suggestions:
- Turned off all firewalls
- Removed partnership between phone and pc (on both the phone and pc)
- Unchecked "Enable advanced network functionality" in USB to PC settings on the phone
- Reinstalled Activesync 4.5 (and also a tried a repair)
- Different USB cable and USB port (not using a USB hub)
- Several soft reboots
and finally tried a different PC just to see if i could get a guest partnership! Guess what? Same error message.
I am, however, able to explore the phone with activesync but only explore. I cant change file names, add files or delete.
On even further investigation, i've now also discovered that i cant delete/ rename files on the phone itself (using file explorer on either the device or internal storage). When i do, i get the following message:
"Cannot remove/ rename etc: Access is denied.
Be certain that the folder/file is not write-protected and is not currently in use"
(Even creating a new folder and then immediately trying to delete it gives the same error)
If i connect the phone to the PC as a disk drive though, i am able to delete files just fine. Add new files, rename them etc....without any problems.
This leads me to believe that the problem is with Windows Mobile!?!
Has anyone else experienced the same/ similar problem and figured out how to fix it? (Other than perform a HARD reset/ Clearing the storage)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
UPDATE:
I found this on the Microsoft help forum.
Although it hasnt fixed my problem, it might help someone else who is having the same problem.
1) soft reset device
2) Start / Office Mobile / Word
3) Create a new document (click on New)
4) type some text (just plain text - no formatting - it was 'plain text document') just a few characters
5) File / Save As...
6) I have selected type 'Plain Text'
7) It asked me whether I want to save it at 'Word document instead' - I clicked No.
8) I have powered off the device and did soft reset
9) Start file explorer, find the file (it was in My Device / My Documents), click on it - it opens Word again.
10) Add some formatting (I have selected part of text and changed font to bold)
11) Close Word - it asked whether to save it in Word format - this time I said Yes
12) Power-off the device and press soft reset again
Also, i noticed that i am able to modify any DOCX or TXT file within Mobile Word (and even delete them) just not from File explorer on the device or Explore within ActiveSync.
Can anyone help???
Same problem with different model

You're not alone. I have HTC Touch Pro (ie. Raphael) with exactly the same problem and I've also already tried that "Word-solution" several times without any help. However I can synchronize with my exchance server via 3G. I can also add/remove/rename files if I use some of the Office mobile applications, but not with file explorer.
Getting sooooo frustrated, but still not willing to do the hard reset.
Do both of you by any chance have Fsecure Mobile installed? Just trying to narrow the cause for the problem.
Same Problem Here
I have a T-Mobile Wing and I'm having the exact same problem. Anyone figure out whats up yet? It's so strange that I can delete/remove files and folders through active sync, but I can't through the device file explorer. I have also tried creating a folder with the file explorer, but then I cant delete, move or rename it.
Here's something that might work for you, http://www.24hsoftware.com/How-To/this-device-is-restricted-from-downloading-this-file-type.html
Unfortunately it hasn't work on any devices that I've seen but then again, I'm still thinking that F-secure mobile is causing the problems in our devices. F-secure has confirmed that they have heard about the problem and are investigating it.
This is very interesting as in the past 24 hours my Xperia X1 has started to do the same, I can create files ok but am unable to remove/copy files.
I am using f-secure mobile security, so it would seem there is an issue there. I'll fire an email to them to get myself on a fix list when it comes out if that's the problem!!
Any news on this issue?
I am using a trial version of F-secure mobile (on my SE Xperia, a sort of HTC ). Now, out of the blue I am experiencing similar problems:
- not able to connect to pc via Active Sync
- not able to delete/rename/copy files on both internal as external memory
- programlist appears empty
Did anyone try to remove F-secure to solve the problem?
Thanks.
I just got a reply from F-secure. They have identified the problem and are expecting to release a new version of the client within next two weeks.
Hopefully that's the end of this...

Updated client was published on last friday.
I am experiencing a very similar problem on my HTC HD2 with wm6.5. If I connect the phone as USB mass storage i can copy files as much as I want to on the SD card, however when I disconnect the cable after copying WM6.5 cant read the folder sometimes.
Othertimes when I connect the phone as Activesync and start to copy some files, it stops half way through, sayign "access is denied". if that happens I cant transfer any files anymore, it will always give same error until some time passes, few disconnections, restarts, no consistency, no definite workaround. The strange is when it gets into this "access is denied" mode I can still browse the device (storage card) and create and delete folders. very-very frustrating.... did a few soft and hard resets, reinstalled activesync couple of times, still no joy...and i dont have any FW app on my device...
thanks.
I have an AT&T SGT. I've been using the beta version of VPlayer from the market. VPlayer is a great app but when I purchased it for $.99 through paypal for the unlocker, the download failed. I emailed Vplayer and they sent me an .apk file for the unlocker but I can't install it.
I've "googled" and got this.
"Download apps for Samsung Galaxy Tab from outside the Android Market
Android apps come in the form of APK files. You can use Google to find free APK files for your Galaxy Tab, then install them using the steps below.
Note: This method should probably only be used by techies or people who really know what they are doing. Installing APK files from some sites can compromise the security of your device.
1. Open Settings.
2. Select Applications.
3. Check Unknown sources to enable app installs from outside of the Android Market.
4. Open Android Market and download and install Astro File Manager.
5. If you used your computer to download the APK file, mount the Galaxy Tab to your computer and copy the APK file to the device. If you used the Browser on the Galaxy Tab, the file should be saved to the device.
6. Open Astro File Manager.
7. Navigate to the APK file location. Tap it and select Open App Manager.
8. Tap Install.
9. Tap Install again"
But my problem is that I cannot comply with step 3. It doesn't give me that option.
I've copied the apk file to my sdcard and installed Easy Installer App from the market to help install it. The Easy Installer App sees the apk file but when I click to install it, it shows:
" FOR SECURITY, YOUR PHONE IS SET TO BLOCK INSTALLATION OF APPLICATIONS NOT OBTAINED FROM ANDROID MARKET."
It give me the option to click the setting button but I can't find the menu to allow installation of non-market apk files.
Thanks for the help.
I don't have the link handy but search SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse either in here or Google. Once you've downloaded the file and extract it, click the SuperOneClick.exe file and finally click allow non market apps. I highly suggest rooting your phone first to make it work. I'm sure there's an easier way but since no one has replied to you yet, I'm hoping this could get you started.

I've installed superoneclick on my windows 7 laptop. THe program runs but when I click allow non-market apps it freezes when it's "waiting for device".
My galaxy tab is already rooted via z4root. I've also unrooted it and trying to root it through superoneclick but it still has the same freezing problem and I have to force to close.
make sure your usb connection is set to debugging then run it again. see if that works.

Thanks for the quick reply rush_exmachina. I've tried the debugging mode already. I also tried: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
"If you're having issues with "wait for device" or if RATC is looping, try this
Unplug your USB Cable
Go to Settings > Applications > Development
Uncheck USB Debugging
Plug in your USB Cable
Unplug your USB Cable
Check USB Debugging
Plug in your USB Cable"
Still no success. I've searched the forums a bit, some SGT owners were successfull with superoneclick and some were not.
no prob. I'm fairly new to the android world myself. I've exhausted everything I know on top of my head but I'll search the forums with you and post whatever I could find here.
Sounds like you may not have the correct USB drivers installed. To test this open a command prompt on your windows computer. Navigate to the same directory you have SuperOneclick installed. In that directory you will see an executable named adb.exe In the command prompt, type adb devices. It should return with a serial number. If not, it can not communicate with your tab. In this case you will need to install the correct Samsung drivers for it to work. Also, as already mentioned, make sure USB Debugging is turned on.
First my english no too good, sorry if don't understand me,i well try,i had this same problem really I could not even root using z4 root since it's not on market no more, well I rooted using superonclick,i did successfully, still my problem about installing apps out of the market....well I did click the install non market apps, and have ther same errors like you then I realized I need give superuser permission so my advice is make sure you give SU permission(this is on your tab, I'm assuming us rooted with su installed) I hope you understood (i said for my english) if not I'm sure somebody here can explain better

Thanks for the reply guys. I will try the command promp method when I get home from work. See if I can get somewhere with that.
As far as permissions I have my SGT rooted via z4root. I went to the superuser app to give permissions...but I don't know enough to do anything with it. I tried adding apps to set permissions but I could not choose anything.
I installed ASTRO app... It looked promising but at the and my SGT still says it's setup to blocking non-market apps. To me that means there should be a setup menu to unblock it.
Thanks again for the help.

Not on the AT&T version as they specifically block that out. The only method to add it is either via SuperOneClick or modifying the settings file directly. SuperOneClick is the easiest method though as editing the file requires Root Explorer and potential for messing something else up in the file.
FINALLY SUCCESSFULL!! I downloaded and installed my SGT drivers from here.http://samsung-phones-apps.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-usb-driver.html
I also found http://www.androidcentral.com/sideload-android-apps-all-you-want-sideload-wonder-machine
I downloaded from both links and followed the directions and it worked like a champ.
Also make sure your SGT is rooted and USB Debugging is enabled like the guys above are saying.
Thanks Rush_exMachina, cbb77 and denpad2010 for your help.
so is this the only way to accomplish this? i'm trying to install non market apps on my att tab. this way works but it is such a hassle
Setting - Security
1. Open Settings.
2. Select Applications. Select Security instead of Application
3. Check Unknown sources to enable app installs from outside of the Android Market.
Hey guys, I downloaded some apk's and transferred them to my sd/NC.
I went into file manager located the apks and click to install and I get the following error "installation of download apks is not supported"
This may have something to do with permissions, but you also may want to give ADB a shot. I know it's a bit of a pain to set up, but someone in the dev. forums posted some simpler drivers. I always install with ADB and it works like a charm.
Check to make sure you have "Unknown Sources" checked under Applications in Settings.
Can also try installing with a different file manager, I use Astro and that works.

Good point, you may need to uncheck and recheck it if it's automatically set to "checked" by default when flashing.
I keep a "new ROM setup" folder on my SD card containing DropBox, RootExplorer,Titanium Backup, adbWireless and Terminal Emulator APKs to make setting up a new system easy.
I download the apk, email it to myself, use the gmail app, open the file, tap install, done. Haven't had any issues with 24+ install. I got tired of ADB to push it.
can a file manager be use to install .apk's that are missing from the market place? currently im missing google maps. ive heard about market manager to trick the market and get the full listings, however should this not work, like some have stated, can i download the .apk from my computer and install it using a file manager?
also for the life of me i do not understand nor can i get adb to work. i know its probably real simple. but im done messing with it, so that option is out.
Same Problem
I've got the same problem. "Install blocked. Installation of download apks not supported."
I've tried all the above suggestions: gmailed it, used various filemanagers, Dropboxed it and no success. I could not figure out how to change permissions....how does one doe that?
I haven't tried ADB - waiting to try everything else before I did that.
Im a medical student and I really would love to be able to use the newly available Android Medscape app (free from the market) on my phone.
Unfortunately, it says in description of the app that it may have problems with "rooted" phones. Im assuming it means our HD2's running android on NAND as well, because after installing the App on my phone, I am unable to update/download the Clinical reference data required for the app to work offline.
It gives the error "Internet connectivity was interrupted..Please try again"
Any help from the developers or anyone else would be very greatly appreciated

Looking at the description and the error you gave, have you tried disabling any ad-blocking software? It may be something cooked into the ROM - if so, try asking the dev how to disable it. DLing now - i'll post back what I find.
.............................
EDIT:
Ok, having found this question asked on the thread for the ROM I use, you can remove medscape from the adblock 'hosts' list. (find it in \system\etc).
Original Post URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11521445&highlight=block#post11521445
I had to copy the file to PC before editing and copied back again using droidexplorer.

Thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention the ROM im using. Its Core Droid DHD 1.5, and it seems you may be right. It says in the description of the ROM that the "Adds are Blocked (Host files modified)". Is there any way to reverse this host file change?
Fixed it with the help of the developer of the Core Droid ROM. Just opened the app "Add free" and hit "revert". Restored the original host file. Medscape works now.
im having the same issue and clicking the "revert" bottom on AdFree did not fix it
I have uninstalled AdFree and have the same problem all the time. Anybody fixed this?
i had the same problem!
After i revert the hosts file in ad-free, medscape did not update the reference!
So what i did:
I did not unistall ad-free, but:
- i revert the host file 3 times in a row;
- i stopped the access of AD Free from SuperUser (root access);
- and i restart medscape (i killed the process with automatic task killer) and start it again;
- and voila, my htc g1 is updating the reference while i text.
(i don't know what are the steps that make medscape update, but i guess, is the revert host file and restart the app, to it starts didn't knowing that can't access that host to update)
I hope this help you!
Good luck
It works for me, reverted host files, stopped Adfree acces to Superuser and voila!! Medscape is updating again. Thanx
how to correct medscape installation please?thx\
SOLVED!
Just got an OTA update for my flyer and software got updated to version 2.27.1540.32
The android version is 2.2.4 while sense is 1.0
Just for the record, AdFree only works on ROOTED devices. i mentioned in another thread on xda that adfree does not work for me. with this OTA update, my Medscape is finally installing as i type this - - -
Just kill the AdFree app and immediately run Medscape app,it'll definitely take the update.I did the same and it worked

not solved for me!
Hi everyone!
Well, I've experienced the same "connectivity error" as everyone with a root cellphone, after reinstalling medscape app at my cell. I never had AdFree, and even though I'm able to found the hosts file and take a look of it with my pc it says absolutely nothing about medscape (only 127.0.0.1 localhost and emptyness after), so I guess I must be getting the wrong file or not accesing to it correctly?
I've tried everything you said, but is still not working.
I'm pretty new with android, and I would really aprecciate you help, given the fact that this is one of my favorities app!

[GUIDE] How to fix "Domestic Roaming" on Sprint (and other) Nougat (and other) ROMs
One of the issues with running the latest Nougat ROMs on this device is that they all say "Domestic Roaming" instead of "Sprint" and also display an R instead of 3G, 1x, etc on the signal display. After much research, I've found out it's that the phone doesn't recognize the tower as a Sprint tower and thus assumes you're roaming. The fix for that is in a little file called eri.xml. What I did was take the file from this OP (all credit goes to him) and modify it a little to get it working properly (it only had three of the four needed Roaming Indicators). I've attached my modified version to the OP of this thread, but here are the steps if you want to create your own. Note that this can be done on a PC or on your phone directly. You will need root! (but since you are most likely needing this for a custom ROM, you probably have it).
If you are just using my file directly:
Download the file and copy to phone if not downloading from there.
Copy and paste the eri.xml file to /data using the file manager of your choice (must be able to browse using root).
Change the permissions on the file to 777 (ie to Read Write eXecute for Owner, Group, and Others).
Reboot phone.
If you are going to make adjustments:
Download the file.
Unzip the file and then open eri.xml in a text editor.
Open up this list of Roaming Indicators from this Github eri.xml source
On that site, use your browser's find feature to search for your carrier. For Sprint, there are four of them (0, 1, 99, 123).
In your text editor, edit RoamingIndicator="#" to match your carrier's roaming indicator number and edit EriText="Sprint" to match your carrier's name. Note that you can change the name to whatever you want and it will scroll if it's too long (or so I've read).
Repeat step 5 for all the roaming indicator numbers for your carrier.
If you need to add extra ones, use copy and paste to do so.
Make sure that NumberOfEriEntries="#" matches the number of entries you have when you finish.
Save eri.xml and copy it to your phone if it's not already there.
Copy and paste file to /data using the file manager of your choice (must be able to browse using root).
Change the permissions on the file to 777 (ie to Read Write eXecute for Owner, Group, and Others).
Reboot phone.
At this point, you should see Sprint as your carrier and no more R on the network meter in the status bar.
I almost didn't create a new thread as I didn't do much, but I wanted to keep all the Q&A and troubleshooting in one place and not clutter the other threads. Plus, I wanted to expand upon some of the steps on what you have to do. If you have any questions or need help, please let me know.

The only time I see something like that is if the file manager isn't root capable, it doesn't get root permissions somehow, or the phone isn't rooted. What file managing app are you using? I did this successfully using Solid Explorer File Manager, although I'm sure any other one that gets root would do.

I used root browser on Resurrection Remix. It has Privacy Guard which asked if I wanted to grant root browser access, and I granted it. Root browser asked me to install busybox, which I did. I moved the file to /data successfully. However, it still didn't gain permission successfully.

Hmm... I looked and that's the exact ROM I tested it on. You'll find my post on the first page and yours is on the second. I don't think I installed a different su program like SuperSU. Two ideas:
1. Make sure you give Root Browser permanent root access.
2. Try a different file manager. I used Solid Explorer with no issue. If you don't want to buy it, try other free ones first. I think MiExplorer (I think that's its name) is free on XDA and is nice.
Thanks for the suggestions. I used solid explorer and it seemed like it worked. Permissions were still 777 after reboot, but I still don't get mobile data. My network says "Sprint" instead of "Domestic Roaming", at least.
Changing roms doesn't help, correct?

Not getting mobile data is different than what this file does. This just fixes the displaying Domestic Roaming issue - it's just cosmetic.
I had no data issues on that ROM. The One m7 lacks some of Sprint's LTE bands and well it's Sprint, but that's not a ROM issue. Maybe try flashing back to a Sense ROM and updating Profile and PRL and then flash back to RR.
Your GitHub link to the list of roaming indicators seems to 404.

Thanks! I've fixed the link to a similar one. The original link was the same file as this one and both only seemed to include Sprint. But, you can find Verizon there as well. As for others, you may need to search to get the right numbers.

AFter having a similar issue, and switching to Solid Explorer, I was able to change the permissions on the file, however it's still showing up as "Domestic Roaming". File is in /data and shows permissions as "777 -rwxrwxrwx"
Any help or ideas?
Thanks

Are you on Sprint? Also, what ROM are you running?
Yes I'm on Sprint. Just installed Resurrection remix 5.8.2

I think I tested on that one and it worked. If you followed the steps completely (restarted?), then I'm not sure why it's still telling you "Domestic Roaming" unless you truly are roaming.
Problem is, my m7 isn't activated anymore, so I can't really verify that nothing's changed with the ROMs since I tested things. Although they shouldn't have since I don't think they've been updated (I'm pretty sure I tested on 5.8.2 or RR).
