I have issues when using DOOM to root my phone.
First off, to correctly connect the phone to the computer you have to go to "WIRELESS >>> USB >>> CONNECT TO PC. Now, if you have already checked the box to enable USB DEBUGGING another box comes up and says that you have to DISABLE usb debugging in order to use the "connect to PC" function. how the hell do you get around that? even when you connect to PC you get MTP initilization in the notification bar. When you pull down and click on it, it simply shuts the bar....... you cannot select anything.
Any ideas anybody?

Have you installed the Samsung drivers?
yeah i've tried installing the drivers. the phone isn't even putting the usb icon in the notification tray anymore. just starts charging and that's it. i go to usb settings/mass storage and nothing. any ideas?
I got that too, I just put the usb cable in another usb port on my computer and tadaaaa: problem fixed
I had this issue and read in a forum (not sure where wish I did to give credit) where u need to format your internal SD memory (the built in 16 gig SD) I did that and it started to work again.

I had/have this problem sometimes too. choosing "ask on connection" usually works. I find that if you select anything other than "mass storage" then exit out, then go back in and choose mass storage, it works again.
Usually only have to do it once after a factory reset or on a new phone
I find my connection to be hit or miss. The pc picks up the drivers fine but doesn't mount the phone as a drive. Kies is a pain to get going too. I read on here that you need .net framework 4 and also no file names over 16 characters, and without kies I think you need to be in debug mode on application settings. I still need to try the short file names and see if it improve it but I never really hook up to a pc anyway, my father has win 7 and I have kies on his computer. I have linux mint 9 on my own so I rarely get to fitz with it on a windows machine.

I'm having this problem, can't get usb debugging mode to turn off. It immediately turns on when I turn it off. It's as the just says, "yeah, you can uncheck it, but I'm gonna leave it on."
How can i change USB connection mode for the Note? Everytime I connect the USB cable, Note always connect in MPT mode even with the MHL adapter. Help pleaseeeeeee
usb debugging
go to menu/settings/applications/development on phone then put a checked mark in the box for usb debugging. when you connect to your computer your phone will beep letting you know it has been connected to a usb source. use pull down screen touch the usb connected message and then touch the connect usb storage button. the little green guy turns orange and now your phone will show up on your computer as an extra drive. from here you can just drag and drop files to the phones directory just like a usb pen drive. i believe this is what you where asking about. hope it helps.
note: first time connecting your computer it will probably install a new device driver and also if you are using Kies you need to turn off debugging before Kies can see the phone.
First off, makes sure you install latest version of Samsung Kies, which includes USB driver for the Note.
Also there is setting to connect mass storage mode manually: Settings -> Wireless and network -> USB utilities. But it seems to be the same as just choosing to connect from the notification bar and wants you to disable debugging.

I am facing similar issue, Windows7-32 bit, when connect SGN via USB (MTP) for firmware upgrade but not sure about 'Kies Mode', few other people got firmware upgraded successfully so i think it's something else. see this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318734&page=59.
In the notifications bar at the top of your screen. You will see a usb symbol in that bar. 3) Use your finger and pull down the bar and then tap the usb symbol. There you will see the option to chang it from MTP mode to any other mode option it has.
I hope this helps.

When I disconnect from Kies, the device still appears in my My Computer as a storage device. I cannot seem to find a way to properly disconnect. (your device is not safe to remove....etc...)
Is there a way to disconnect just like with USB's to ensure safe disconnection?
Is it ok to just disconnect even if the Galaxy Note still appears in My COMPUTER as a storage device?
Is it just me having this problem?
Slide down your notification and Click on the USB Connection and then Click Disconnect. How did you manage to connect in the first place?

Just connected the Note to the PC using the cable that came with the device.
If I slide down the notification area there is no option that says DISCONNECT. It only says that USB connection on going. There is no DISCONNECT option on the device or on the PC itself.
By the way, this is the stock ROM from Samsung, touchwiz. No rooting has been done.
Any idea guys?
I could disconnect through Kies, but even after doing that, the device still appears in My Computer as a storage device.

Click on the USB Connection and then you will have the option to Disconnect
My windows PC does not have a USB connection icon when the Note is connected to it unlike when a USB is connected to it.
Am I the only one experiencing this? Is this a Note thing or a PC thing? or a software/android thing?

Actually, there is no such option ...
If you connect with MTP protocol (default setting), you don't need to do anything before unplugging.
If you connect through USB protocol (you would have to set it up on the phone beforehand), then the usb icon will be there and you should eject from the PC then pull down notification bar to stop the usb connection before unplugging.
[Q] Whenever I connect USB, it says "MTP initilization". How do I change this?
I want to be able to mount the USB storage from my notification menu whenever I connect the phone, not have it connect to MTP. Is there a setting somewhere that I missed?
1. Go to "Settings" > "Wireless and network" > "USB utilities"
2. Press button, then connect cable to PC
Seems this has to be done every time.

Yes, this is how I have been doing it until now, but it is starting to get old. I was just hoping that someone else knew how to change it.

This worked, thanks! I didn't think debugging would affect its connection type like that. I always assumed it was just for adb mostly.

Enabling USB debugging didn't work for me. I had to disable USB debugging to enable USB connection if that makes sense.
When I plug my N6 into my computer, nothing happens. I have usb debugging and MTP checked. This started happening recently. I have previously been able to connect my phone and view files. What could have happened?
Windows Update overwriting something? Impossible to guess. Use the Install Drivers button in Wugfresh's Nexus Root Toolkit to walk through the complete setup of your drivers again, and you should be up and running inside 15 minutes.
Or another thought - have you swiped down when USB is plugged in and selected "for file transfer" rather than "for charging only"?
Sometimes I had to uncheck the USB debugging switch to get it to see my phone
Thanks for the suggestions. Got it working again.
Excellent. What did you do?
