How to know if my note was rooted? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Not sure how to check this.

Check for CWM and superuser apps

Just install any app like Titanium Backup from Market, and it verifies that you are able to become root, if not it will tell you.

There is an app check root (I think) that will tell you for sure. I used it when my tablet appeared rooted but was not.

check if you have superuser app installed in the system. If its there in the apps then there are chances. You can confirm it by opening apps like Titanium backup (free version available in market). It will ask for root permission while opening.

even easier:
open terminal emulator, type: "su root", press enter and check if there pops up a Super User request

For those that know what you are talking about, perhaps. For the rest of the world, I believe the 'Check Root' app would be simpler

Why the root message isn't showed like Hero&Others ?

All others rooted phones have a message showed when an application asks root, why don't we have this on Tattoo ?
On Tattoo root permissions are always enabled
Ok, it's nice but we can't see which application ask root :/
Like Terminal Emulator, when you launch it, the shell is always in normal user "$", not in root :/

This is true, but I dont know how, after isntalling 5faif ROM, terminal emulator shows me the #, id command shows me that I'm root.
I'm on stock ROM, this is the problem i think!
Anybody has SetCPU ?
The problem with this is that every application can obtain root without our knowledge.
It is a serious security flaw.
Not really. Android is pretty secure. Even if you get a brick from a Andirus (Virus + Android), it's a piece of cake to undo the damage.

Because that rom you've flashed contains custom boot.img by mainfram3 that gives to you root at startup and loads tattoo-hack.ko (partition r/w always mounted)

Actually i wasn't having viruses in mind. More like keyloggers and such. SU prompt wasn't invented for no reason...
I think the OP was asking about SuperUser.apk.
It's a modified su plus a service that asks for user intervention when a program calls /system/bin/su. It's nifty and it should be used by everyone.
Android apps are prevented from looking into other apps data. If su is readily available, a app can escalated it's privileges and steal your personal info, by reading data from other apps.

Exactly my point.
MoDaCo Custom ROM 1 includes Superuser apk for root access.
P
Anyone know how to fix Superuser Permissions manually?
I have Tattoo with rooted boot.img (mainfram3)
I pushed su into /system/bin/
Made chmod 4577 /system/bin/su
Pushed superuser.apk from Modaco Rom to /system/app/
Restart sure...
SuperUser Permissions can be executed (list is clear)
But any app doesn't send request to Superuser Permissions.
What i could forget?
Finally, I solved it partially.
Sure, i have rooted boot.img
I extracted from Modaco Custom ROM for Tattoo:
su
Superuser.apk
copied su to: /system/bin/su
copied Superuser.apk to: /system/app
run in terminal: chmod 4577 /system/bin/su
restarted and everything works fine now... Superuser Permissions shows all root-requests, Titanium Backup works, other root-things works too
But i notice, that su-binary from Modaco ROM is about 34-36 kb, but
su-binary from guide of getting root is about 80-85 kb.
1-2 months ago we faced with difference in size of su. We choosed bigger su in case, what it can run "flash_image", smaller su can't run.
But maybe it fixed already? I did not test it yet.
Thanks @5[Strogino]
I was trying to use Titanium today to back up my apps but it didn't work.

Need quick help with terminal

So when I open up terminal emulator there is a '$' sign and I input the command "su". It says that super user granted permission. After that the '$' disappears and I can't do any other commands. If I enter one it will just skip to the next line with no effect. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Uninstall superuser apk and reinstall from market? Or try clearing the data of it

Try updating the su binary. Or try installing super su switching to super su's binary AND THEN uninstall super user. Or the opposite if your already using super su. You must NOT just uninstall the su app though. You must install the other, update the binary (instructions can be found in super su's thread in android apps and games (IIRC) the app itself, or Google it.
And THEN uninstall the other one.
Worth a shot.

What does this mean exactly? That I'm not actually rooted, or not rooted correctly?
Solved! I'll post the solution soon!
Please do, I also have this problem though I think I used a different root method. I know I am rooted as I have Superuser and I am using Google Play now with other customizations but apps like Titanium Backup are not working because of the root thing.

In the most simple way to do it, open up the app listing and tap on Superuser to initialize the daemon. That's it. Once the daemon starts, root access will manifest in those little boxes with the permission.

Data dis/enable

Ok. I am running magisk....made shell cmd task of data on and off...they work....but why when I click "use root", it says device doesn't appear rooted. Could magisk be the culprit? Thanks.

Tasker cannot detect root with MagiskSU. If you attempt to select the Use Root option, you get a toast: "Error, you device doesn't appear to be rooted." However, as mentioned here, if you preface a Run Shell command with /sbin/su -c, Magisk Manager will prompt to allow Tasker root access and your command will work.
Code:
/sbin/su -c "svc data enable"

Well. Original position:
- Used RR April 16, 2017 nightly build as fresh install
- recovered Tasker from TiB backup
- created new task
- to avoid cheating assumptions created Tasker's task shortcut to run the task.
Video link is below. Pay attention to LTE symbol in the beginning of the vid. Task's goal was to disable it. The task was run via desktop shortcut
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8jDZdXO_06aMW5GYVJIRjBfemM/view?usp=drivesdk
Arrgh.just saw - LTE link run down before the task run - Tasker spotted my homecells and tried to setup WiFi connection (but no WLAN settings were restored). Nevertheless, it changes nothing - Task call via shortcut didn't call any root complaints, did it?
P.S. no offences again. In the cast i've intentionally shown Magisk's superuser tab to demonstrate nothing but two apps had root access. But after restore Tasker asked for 'su' perms (baloon), and was granted. Maybe, skipped 'su' perms for Tasker is Your headache?

Sorry for late reply. Could it be so that Tasker was asking for root permission, but was not granted? Also, guess, You've checked that Tasker is in Device Administrators?
Upd. Stupid assumption. You've said , the task works when running on its own, from Tasker, but pops up the warning, when 'Use root' is checked... Not a big specialist in Magisk, but, haven't You use something like 'Hide root from apps' or alike in Magisk?

how to open Magisk after it's hidden?

I outsourced rooting my device. Now I need access to Magisk to change the settings for the monitoring software I need to install. How do I open the Magisk app after it's been hidden? TIA!!!
It's in your app drawer, named "Manager".

Just run the app "Magisk Manager" or "Manager" (with the Magisk icon) that is on your app drawer.
Don't you have it? Well, then you don't have a proper installation of Magisk, at least the Manager is lacking. Download it (the apk) and install. Then open it and see if everything is fine or not. Check main Magisk release thread for links.
Thank you so much for replying! Magisk Manager is not in my app drawer, but it *is* listed in the device settings as an installed app. I just can't figure out how to open it. I assumed that app had also been hidden somehow. Advice?
Whoever you outsourced it to have done something that's not standard. Ask them...

Yeah, that didn't work. So I'm again trying to DIY...
Your wonderful guide says:
Unhiding the Magisk Manager
Go to the Manager settings and choose "Restore Magisk Manager".

But I can't do that because "Manager" is not in my app drawer.
You also have:
Starting MagiskHide manually
MagiskHide is enabled by default and should start automatically on boot. If it isn’t working, try toggling MagiskHide off and on in the Manager settings. If MagiskHide just won't start when toggling it in the Magisk Manager (check the Magisk log, it might have started but the Manager doesn't reflect it), try starting it manually. This can be done in a terminal emulator (as su) by executing the following command:
su
magiskhide --disable
magiskhide --enable
Click to collapse
So I downloaded a terminal emulator and ran this command, but got this error message: su: unrecognized option '--disable'
Any more tips before I lose more money? Should I just try and reinstall Magisk completely? Having watched the tech guy do it the first time, I'm not sure I'm completely up for the task. Would it be easier after it's already been successful? Should this be straightforward, or am I better off handing over my wallet?
THANK YOU so much!!!

I'm curious... What happens when you want to grant superuser access to an app? Do you get the prompt to accept or deny?
I'm also curious what Magisk version you actually have installed. What's the result if you run this command in the terminal emulator:

You need to run the three commands separately, not all together.

My first tip is to not trust your "tech" guy... From what you've described here it doesn't at all sound like he knows what he's doing.
Secondly, I would try to install the Manager and see what happens. Download the apk from here (that's the current version of Manager v7.2.0) and install that. If that works you're golden, if it doesn't report back...

So I downloaded and installed this apk. I think. All that's necessary to do that is just click on it while on the phone, right? It said it was updating my previously installed Magisk Manager, so I assume it worked. But both immediately and after a reset, there is still nothing new in the app drawer. It still shows in my phone settings->apps, but that's it.
I've attached a log from my results in the terminal emulator regarding magisk and magiskhide. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.
What launcher do you have? Sounds like the guy just his it from showing up the app drawer?

I was about to kick myself if it was that easy. Just installed Nova to check, and still no Manager app.
So should I just try to reinstall Magisk completely? Do I need to uninstall first? Is it as simple as opening the .apk on the device?
Hi, I have the same problem, did you find a solution?
