Yes, as an ebook reader NC is heavy right ? I feel it has too much weight and when I am reading my starts paining unless I mount it somewhere. Also I am not able to read in bed.
I was thinking to get a case, so that i might feel less weight since I can hold it with two hands. What do you guys say ?
Whats your suggestions on it ? OR you never feel it is heavy ?
Why can't you hold the NC w/o the case with two hands?
Reading on bed? yes, it's kind of. NT is lighter.
Compared to reading on my iPad (heavy) or Viewsonic G-Tablet (really heavy) I don't think the Nook Color is heavy at all. I can read on it for hours while holding it without my hand cramping like it used to when I used my 10 inch devices for reading.
A good case can help, but a lot just add bulk or add edges.I don't find it heavy at all, but the NOOK Touch is noticeably a bit lighter. I don't think you'll find a color reader that's much lighter.
If this is a real problem, you might be happier with a NOOK Simple Touch.
it's lighter and thinner than the kindle fire too...
out of my 3 e-book readers that i have had (ebookwise.com ereader, velocity micro cruz reader, and my NC) the nook is the lighter one...and as far as i can tell from checking out other e-readers in stores the NC is one of the lightest ones.
*shrug* just my opinion
Yes its too heavy for my likes.. But the good performance and price / value make it worthwhile.
After all you get the nc for a mere 130$ while stuff like the Aurora cost you about 170$.

I find the NookColor to be quite heavy compared to eink readers, but it is certainly not too heavy.
I really don't compare the weight of the nook color to other e-readers, that's not what it's replacing. As an e-reader it's replacing those big heaver hardbound books. As a tablet, it's kind of replacing my 7lb notebook.... It also replaces the 6 monster bookshelves in the other room. Try comparing it to an average textbook, and no that tiny paperback lit/poetry text is not average. Try chemistry/biology text that weigh more than my notebook computer.....
It's all subjective, what do you want? Battery life, cpu, memory, screen, os, lower weight, cost... Personally, I think it has a good weight for the specs, and after using the nook color, i could never go back to e-ink, not as it is now. I would love a 5 gram indestructable tablet with 25Ghz processor & 20 gb video with 3year battery, but it doesn't exist yet and certainly not in my price range.

Agreed, FloydF. I sell quite a few signed first editions, mail then to buyers: general weights before packing for last half dozen ran from 1.7 to 3.1 lbs. My NC is considerably lighter, even with case. Of course, I still do most of my e-reading on my old and much loved Nook e-inker, that is, when I don't have a 'real' book in hand.Sometimes you just gotta take the weight.
It aint heavy its my Nook Color.
So am I the only guy who thinks NC is heavier
My GF recommends P90-x. She says in just a few short weeks youll be throwing that nook around like its nothing! Reading with two hands??? Nah not anymore. Youll be reading with one hand for hours. LOOK MOM ONE HAND!
I have a very large right arm, so I'm good.
I have a dell streak 7 and my husband has an ipad. I would take the NC any day over those two. Not nearly as heavy. I have a case that looks like a book cover and my NC just snaps in. Very easy to take out the NC when I'm reading, etc.

As an ereader, its a bit heavy, but if reading laying down on the couch I prop it up on my leg ~ part of the point of an ereader is if you can't read the text at that distance you can change the size of the text instead of just holding it closer.
As a media tablet, its light, but then I naturally have it propped up when watching streaming video.

You just need to build your arm up a bit for reading... or whatever.

I find it very comfortable. I used to fall asleep reading with the light on... now turn I off the lights set my reading apps to white text on black and if I fall asleep it turns off. I usually prop it up on a pillow and read on my side. I have a Roocase Executive leather case which adds a little bulk but a lot of protection (really like being able to zip it up!)... and lots of variations for positioning on a table. NC and case are about the same weight as a hardcover book.

So with a case, which makes NC like a book cover reduces the weight when holded with two hands like a real book ?
I don't find comfortable holding NC with two hands in Portrait mode.
If you get a case, you should really consider an easel style.
^any link ? perhaps on ebay ?

I've had these iBallz since my first iPad. They went on my iPad2, Transformer TF300, and now I have them on my Nexus7. They are the original size iBallz... I see on the website they have a 'mini' version for smaller tablets... might have to check those out as I get a lot of use out of these.
I am an eBay seller so this tablet gets around to yard sales, thrift stores, all over my garage and more. I am constantly setting it down somewhere dirty. The iBallz keep the tablet off the surface I am setting it on. I gave my iPads and the Transformer the 'drop test' with these and the iPad's come thru like champs. The Transformer (same size as iPad, also made by ASUS) survived the fall from about 4 feet high straight down to the ground but it did a reboot. I noticed no further issues besides the reboot.
Since the 7 is also made by ASUS i'm assuming something similar will happen but with all the screen lift scare I'm not going to intentionally try the drop test on the 7. I'm sure it will get an accidental drop sooner or later and I'll update this when it happens.
The strings give an added support that feels nice when you slide your hand in between the elastic band and the pad it feels more secure in your hand- less likely to slip out of your hand. The balls are great to hold on to when laying down on your back on the couch or bed watching videos or surfing..
All the balls are clear of any outer buttons, although the top right one almost hovers over the power button- but not enough to prevent usage of the button but very close to it. I'm sure the mini balls they sell will be even better.
Thats all my thoughts on it so far- I've only had the iBallz on the 7 for a couple days now as I just got this tablet. I'll update this more if I see any more insight on it.

It's interesting and clever, but the price is kinda steep for what is basically Nerf balls and string.

I just wanted to quote this, so it couldn't be edited.
Also, thats kind of a cool idea. Not cosmetically as nice as a case, but provides some real drop protection. I may have to check out them mini balls.

That I can understand but they are more like form fitting foam (very solid foam but still cushiony) that is precision cut to fit. I guess if someone is so inclined they could make them but I don't think the majority are these kind of people.
For the price I paid ($25) I have gotten quite a few years of use out of them on several devices.

I see what you did there. This is the first time I've ever seen something like this. I agree it is a little steep for $2 worth of nurf balls.
OMG
Not sure what to think about having balls on my tablet. Guess nice drop protection unless your ball's fall off.
That system might work, but honestly, I'll risk dropping it. I couldn't even give a reason without making it sound like an insult...so I'll just say it's not for me...

I was in the market for a case with a keyboard included, and there are a ton out there. This one caught my eye because of the included sd card reader. I actually thought that it was going to be a mini-usb connection, but if I just read more carefully, I would seen that it says USB in plain sight. Anyway, not that big of a deal, Im sure there are mini-usb to usb converters I could snag. I just received this this today and overall Im pretty happy with it so far.

This is the packaging it came in... Pretty standard, I guess. Not much to say about this portion of the review, moving on.
Its definitely not real leather, as indicated by the title. But, Im actually impressed with the feel of it. Now, I haven't been in the tablet crowd for very long. This is my second tablet to a Toshiba Thrive. I didn't buy a case for it. I bought a sleeve case for my Nexus 7 before this one, and it was pretty handy. However, this one is just what I was looking for in a case. The Nexus 7 slides right in to the sleeve part on the top and is a great fit. The opening for the screen gives enough room on all sides. The camera cutout, also, gives enough room for it's intended purpose as well.
I've read around that a lot of people dislike keyboards with tablets, but I think it's quite handy. I'm getting away from using my computer almost completely because of how advanced these tablets are getting and a keyboard gives me that extra push. The keyboard with this case definitely takes some getting used to, but not as much as I thought it would. I'm writing this review with it now, in fact.
The response of the keys are pretty spot on. Every once in a while I'll miss a keystroke due to the fact that I'm not used to the compact style yet. The layout of the keys are a tad different, but I do think that it is a form factor for these smaller keyboards. Enlighten me if this is not the case. The special function keys work as well... There are volume keys, a shortcut for email, music playback keys, and much more. They all seem to work well. It was easy as anything else as far as connecting it to the tablet via bluetooth. I think I read that you can get upwards of 50 hours of typing time on it before it needs a charge. Also, it has some blue LEDs built in, giving it a nice look when you turn it on and pair the device. The keyboard is secured by magnets, which I just found out as I lifted it off of the case. Nice feature, now that I can just sit back and type with the tablet a few feet in front.
I read about a case being titled a "Smart Case" and this one is indeed a smart case. Whenever you close the device, the tablet turns off, and sure enough, opening it turns it on. Great idea and great functionality with this case.
Here's the card reader. Nothing too special, but small enough to where I can get an inline adapter and connect it via the miniusb port and have some extra space when I need it. Glad it came with the case.
So, there you have it as far as my review goes. I'm very happy with this case, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a well made case that comes with a keyboard. It's not too expensive, but it's not the cheapest one out there either. Well worth it in my opinion.
*EDIT* Forgot to post pictures of the case closed:

Thanks for the review. Much appreciated
Can you post pics of it using the kickstand?
I'm trying to decide whether I should get this (along w/ a wireless mouse) so I can use my Nexus 7 at work for meetings, taking notes, etc.
Or if I should go with one of the more traditional keyboards, like the Logitech -- http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Tablet-Keyboard-Android-920-003390/dp/B0054L8N7M?tag=notebookscom-20
Thanks for the review. But there two things stopping me from buying a bluetooth keyboard.
One is the reliability factor. I'm tired of getting burned by the no names. My last corded keyboard lasted one day.
Second is the flatness of all the keys. Most bluetooth keyboards have the same flat keys that is hard to feel them apart.
I've seen a couple with better keys, like the one below, but they have the cutout for Galaxies and not Nexus. Even then, I'm still considering one of them and cutting the 'leather' to fit he Nexus inputs. But the reliability fear doubles when I think of that.
So, as of right now I feel stuck. I will ask you again next month to see how well the board is holding. Until then I will keep looking around for something that matches what I want.

Posted the same picture twice on last post... oops. But there are some pics of the stand.

Leather cases to me look horrible.
I don't know if its just my style or what but I don't like them.
Is the keyboard detachable from the case?
Or is it in-built?
Thanks for the review btw !

Thanks for the review,Pretty cool, I want to buy
I sold a 10.1" asus (tf101) transformer to buy my N4 figuring the phone could double as a tablet and so far, it's doing the job; better, if anything (It hasn't creashed yet!).
The N4 screen is obviously physically smaller but screen resolution is practically the same @ 1280x768 vs. 1280x800, so I simply hold the N4 closer to my eyes assisted as necessary by reading glasses. i'm aged 54 and wouldn't have required those in my 30s. There is also the option of plugging-in to a TV or monitor via the slimport adaptor.
of course my fingers now place a proportionately larger fingerprint on the touchscreen requiring a more delicate touch than with the 10" screen, but i use a BT mouse and keyboard when precise work is needed. Coupled with the DroidEdit app, I can finally use an android device as a productivity tool.
My asus had better battery life than the N4 but i've bought an Anker 10,00mAh portable charger to keep it going practically indefinitely.
finally I use an app called "screen rotation" to auto-rotate the Home screen, just like my old asus, so that i can use the phone entirely in landscape orientation while mounted on a stand.
when i sold the asus I kept my 7" blackberry playbook as a fallback but even that isn't getting much use now.
what else can a tablet do that the N4 can't?
I still prefer using my Nexus 7 to my Nexus 4 for most tasks... It's really inexplicable, technically the N4 is better in every way, the screen is better, the CPU is faster, the GPU is more powerful, they have similar battery life.... But somehow I just prefer working on a physically larger screen.
Then again, maybe I'm just stupidly fussy. Obviously, I can and do use my N4 for everything I'd use the 7 for, I don't always have the 7 with me...
i haven't touched my N7 since i got my N4, damnit google lol
If my phone had a 10" screen and a hot pluggable keyboard like my Transformer Prime, sure I'd ditch the tablet. All kidding aside, no way will a tiny handheld phone replace my 10" tablet.
I can't see my N4 replacing the iPad, the screen is too small so I have to focus more when I do stuff on the phone than I do on the tablet (I mostly do SSH and some light surfing).

you don't actually need it that close. i was making the point that apparent screen size is contingent on distance from the viewer.

but why take 2 bottles into the shower?
What else can a tablet do that your n4 can't?
It gives you the comfort to sit back relax and enjoy it (the tablet), all in one package - without the hassle of switching between using your fingers and a bluetooh mouse (???????) On a tiny device.
If you must only have one device then I guess an n4 can be productive. However productivity on a tablet is much better.

Tablets can run different apps without mods
However, if you are planning to root&tweak, the only difference will be hardware really
Yeah i had a nexus 7 and sold it along with my old phone to fund the purchase of the n4, very happy with the n4, but i'll probably pick up another n7 or its successor in the summer as for watching video/browsing the web the bigger size is much nicer..

Comes in 4 colours: Red, Black, White and Tan Leather. Leathery finish to it which makes it feel quite premium. Not quite sure whether it is PU or Leather, but it feels very nice. Inside is lined with microfibre material that is stitched in place very well. Quality of the stitching all around the sleeve seems good like the interior of a nice car
So flat it has roughly the same profile as a magazine. There was a concern where the N10 was bigger in length than the sleeve's measurement but this hasn't been as big as I thought. It leads to the sleeve being a tiny bit open, but you can judge from the pictures as to how much of an effect it has. the opening itself has magnets embedded inside it so that it can fold and stay folded in the different shapes and not fall apart.
So it folds into two different types of stands; One at 20 degrees and another at 45 degrees. Folding the sleeve into stands is really easy and you can't really mess it up by doing it incorrectly. Just undo whatever you did and fix it correctly and you're good to go.
Putting your tablet on the 20 degree stand in landscape mode feels very stable and is not going to fall off the side very easily. If you play a game and tap the side of the screen, you might have to tap it really hard to make it fall off. In portrait mode for things like web browsing is really nice too because the case supports the full length of the tablet and then at least you don't have the light bouncing off and hitting you in the eye.
At 45 degrees, it's still easy to fold and putting your tablet up there doesn't affect the structure and support of the case. Part of the reason is the case provides the weight needed for stability and it comes across as very stable. All the buttons and ports are reachable in both portrait and landscape mode.
Overall, I'm really happy with it.
Mine arrived today (hooray Amazon Prime) and I thoroughly agree with this review.
It really is surprisingly stable with the tablet in landscape; I was expecting it to wobble even a little bit, but it's rock steady.
Outer material is fairly nice (I went for the black one) and slides into my back-pack better than the soft-touch back of the bare tablet. (I got this for the stand functionality more than protection!).
I just hope the "new car smell" goes away soon! :silly:
(incidentally, anyone else think the photos in the OP make it look a lot like a manilla envelope or Jiffy bag?)

Hey guys, longish post ahead- but I would really appreciate your advice!
After a brief foray into the original Moto 360 a couple of years ago, I decided that I wanted to wait until the smartwatch market developed a bit more before putting down some cash on one (I ended up selling the Moto 360). Fast forward two years later, and I'm now looking for a smartwatch that will:
1.) Be reasonably durable against wear/tear; for this reason and the reason below, I'm not going for a nice $399 Huawei that I'll get scratched up anyways
2.) Be reasonably priced; $200 is about all I can justify spending on a time piece, especially since I see myself keeping a couple of swappable bands handy for customization
3.) Manage my notifications and calendar events in a straightforward way...in other words, I have no need for any fitness tracking functions
4.) Be formal enough to wear to classical and contemporary music concerts I perform in. This is actually a pretty important factor for me, as I perform a lot.
After many hours of research, I think a Pebble would be the best bet for me....Now the issue is choosing one. Which one do you think I should get? I have gone back and forth between the 3 models now, for the following reasons:
Pebble Time: It is only ~$125 on Amazon! That affords me extra spending room for alternate straps, wraps, etc. This is also the one model that I think encapsulates the "low-res GBC" attitude the best in its external styling. I thought that the Steel seemed to try a little to hard to be serious, which is a striking contrast to its not-so-serious UI.
Pebble Time Steel: Despite what I said above, I considered the Steel because it seems like the better fit for my concert performances, especially if I swap out the band for a metal one. I also appreciate the extended battery, and according to reviews it seems to have slightly better viewing angles.
Pebble Round: I have small wrists, so it seems that the Pebble Round would be the best aesthetic fit for me. That being said, I don't really like the round face all too much because makes the already small display that much smaller. Not sure if in real life this is a moot point, but I like having more information displayed at once. Also - not sure if this is still an issue now - but reviewers were complaining about how not all apps have been supported to fit the round screen...The reduction in battery life is also a bit of a downer, but honestly I wouldn't mind charging it every couple of nights or so, since I already charge my smartphone daily.
So....thoughts? What made you choose your current Pebble?
Thanks!
I think you meant Pebble Time Steel instead of Pebble Steel.
If battery life is not a concern go for the PTR instead. It has some design improvements over the Pebble Time, for example better button designs that are less likely to accidentally pressed by your wrist. The most popular apps already support PTR, and in my experience I rarely use apps on my Pebble anyway.
I bought my (classic) Pebble Steel before the time series became available, but I wouldn't change it for a Pebble Time (Steel). I don't need Pebble Health, Color Display and the "Send Texts"-App, and imho the classic Pebble Steel is still the best-looking model. I've also heard that the color display is more difficult to read in the sunlight.
I only use the straps that came along, but if you want to buy more you should consider that the Pebble Steel doesn't work with standard straps.
My first smartwatch was a Pebble Steel I bought used (and cheap). I did not think i would like it that much. Unfortunately the display gave up on me after a while. I just today ordered a Pebble Time, even though it may have shorter runtime and lower click response than the steel version but for me (as a shift worker without a fix schedule) this doe not bother me a lot. I like the lighter, a little sleeker version that fits my sportive ambitions better. And simply for the buttons, I would not the least pay the significantly higher price for the Steel.
To concern your points: I took the scratches-thing as a very serious problem, as the Pebble Time is known to take scratches very easily on the metal frame around the display. That is why I voted for the Pebble Steel, it surely is more impressive, too. As you do not care for the sports functions, I think it suits you better, as I personally do not want to go running/ swimming with a leather or metal strap, though the leather of the original Pebble Steel felt very comfortable and nice.
What I will do to avoid scratches on my Pebble Time is using some Bepple protectors (the name is somehow ridiculous) to protect it. Check it out, they got a special offer atm: http://www.clvrcover.com
You could wear this when not on a concert and when playing, you may take it off. Or chose a neon green one when accidentally playing on a punk concert
Good luck with you choice!
Regards
OG Steel more robust and better screen but many watch have screen tearing. No mic for input on OG Steel
time steel very beautifull mic for input (note, checklist.... ) no issue with screen but readibility lower than OG Steel.

Without screen Tearing I vote for OG Steel, but.....
Really love my Pebble Time Round. Don't really care about "apps" per se -- I use the watch as a notification device, not to "do" things (which is why i gave up on my Android Wear watch) -- and as that the smaller and round watch face works fine. It gives just enough information, but also looks nice. Battery life isn't great, but it gets about two days. For me, a guaranteed 24-hours is all I need. I'm going to charge my watch once a day, so as long as I'm SURE i can get through that day, I'm happy.
Like most things, whether it fits your lifestyle depends completely on how you end up using it. I imagine a lot of "power users" of Android Wear or even Pebble would hate the round.
