Has anyone purchased this new app yet? This is one of those barcode scanner apps that finds torrents. Its $2.99 right now. I wanna wait for some impressions before I make the jump. The concept sounds pretty cool though.
Just saw the youtube video for it, from the video it looks simpler than torrent droid. I don't know if it is though since I haven't tried either. I'm almost willing to take the plunge seeing as I've spent more on less
Personally I'm waiting on a free torrent app before I try torrents on my G1. BitTorrent has always sat in a gray area, but an app like this pretty much supports piracy since 9 out of 10 times you're not going to be able to preview a movie or album in any short amount of time while you're in the store using a p2p download. I don't see it staying up on the market for very long in a commercial form. Besides, you have a 24 hour period to request a refund so if you want to take the plunge and don't like it you can refund.
torrent droid apk
It looks like it has not been released yet however, if it has and I have made a horrible horrible mistake, can someone provide the .apk or a link for the DL? I'll provide the same if/when I get it.
Thank dudes

You don't seem to have read what the previous guy said: it doesn't DL to your phone. It sends the DL to your home PC.
Your point is the same, however, since it is farly exclusively for piracy.

They send you a eyepatch in the mail with every purchase! YAR! Dun pillage me b00ty!
That aside, I took the plunge and this app was definitly worth every penny.
There are plenty of legal uses of BitTorrent.
Case and point, I tried to download Ubuntu last night from one of the many mirrors listed on the Ubuntu website. I got average 150-200 KB/s download speeds. I went to isoHunt, picked the first result for the same release (perfectly legal) and averaged 700 KB/s. This was a perfectly legal use of BarTor.
The BarCode scanning is a perk, it is merely an additional way of entering the information you would have entered anyway. And it even provides a couple of search results for purchasable products offered online, often at much lower prices than the retail store you are in.
With the barcode scanning piece, I think it would be awesome if CDs were released with a QR Code linking to a sampler or something to that effect, so I could listen to a sampling of the artist and/or others. I know that I probably cannot change the way this type of content is delivered, but there are opportunities existing with this type of technology.
i bought it yesterday unfortunately i couldn't get around to messing around with it until today and after a few different ports being forwarded it finally stopped saying failed when i clicked on submit to client and now says success. just wish it had a gui so i could check on percentage complete, sorting by file type. thanks for the app nex, loving it so far. i also just noticed if i hit back to get out of the app then the next time i go in it force closes. its happened to me 3 times and I've deleted the .db file and then it goes back to normal, guess i just have to remember to not back out of the app and just hit home instead
I purchased the app and it works great. I think it is great to see more legal uses for torrents. I like being able to send torrents directly to my home PC when I'm on the go.
I'm not sure why mine isn't working. I am using uTorrent 1.6.1 and I entered my pc's ip address in the app with the ip address and the uTorrent port in the app. I scanned a dvd that I already owned and it's been stuck at Submitting To Client... for about 2 or 3 minutes.
Is there anything else that needs to be done?
Maybe it's my firewall... or router... or torrent app...
I thought this was supposed to be simple!

Make sure you portfowarded correctly, did you try looking up the webui on the utorrent forums? No I bet, Here check it out http://forum.utorrent.com/viewforum.php?id=20
and the documents for installing
http://utorrent.com/documentation/webui
Hope that helps you set it up, the thing that causes the most problems is the Portforwarding so make sure you do it correctly
I helped with the beta testing on this and love this app. I was the first one to purchase it and rate it (never said "first" though). As for the comment above about wishing it had a gui, it just sends the torrent file to your desktop torrent client, so your desktop is the part that needs the gui (and if this app works, you have a gui because that is a requirement). Read your torrent client (utorrent/vuze/ktorrent) help to find out how to use it. I have a shortcut on my desktop to my ktorrent webui so i can view/edit the torrent download settings.

I'm no expert... but I think that may have something to do with the problem.
I tried F5... http://127.0.0.1:port/gui... http://127.0.0.1:8080/gui... pretty much everything that they had on the site to include http://YourIP:UTport/gui/?action=setsetting&s=webui.cookie&v={} (which did nothing) so... maybe i just need to reinstall uTorrent. I can't upgrade because I need it for BitSoup (they only support a handful of browser versions).
I assume that you are currently on the same WiFi network, and that you've made sure to enter the private network IP of your PC? Did you get those results when viewing attempting to view the Web UI on the PC in question?
I used the wrong words i guess, just something so I can see a quick rundown of what's actually downloading, because I had a torrent I tried to submit to client and it said failed but when I got home it was downloading and I never tried to submit it after the initial failed message. i mean dont get me wrong the app is good as it stands, just putting my 2 cents in for something i'd like to see

So even though it's all the same... I always get a different result. A couple of times it asked me for my username and password and my heart skipped a beat because I thought that it was suddenly working... but I just got a blank page afterwards. I dunno what it is other than annoying.
i dont know if anyone is having this problem but i have tried to send over a torrent a few times today and it stays at the submitting to client point for about 10 minutes before i just cancel it out, yesterday i sent over a torrent and it took about half a minute to get the success message. i went on from the computer where i am and utorrent is active but for some reason i cant submit from my phone. just hoping someone can help me out on this.

The default behavior is to retry failed downloads on Application Entry and Exit. After receiving the fail message, when you exited BarTor, the download was retried. It will continue to do so until either the submission to the client is successful or you cancel the download (Menu --> Downloads --> Cancel).

It looks like you've got uTorrent encrypting things and/or the WebUI is not handling the GZipped files properly. Maybe a reinstall of uTorrent or at least the Web UI will help.

Okay. Thats a nice feature so I don't have to keep trying to send it. What about if its stuck on submitting to client? I've deleted the .db files and rebooted my phone a few times and tried it through wifi also, but I still get the submitting to client for awhile before i just cancel out of it. I have re-entered my information a couple of times to make sure i had it right. i went into it from a computer using http://yourip:port/gui/ just to make sure my utorrent wasnt down and it came up right away. Also i have tried it with different files and sites just to make sure it wasn't a particular torrent site that was having issues. I can't think of what else to try or what it could be. Any ideas?
I did all the searching I could before posting this so I hope my first thread doesn't turn out to be a fail. Firstly I got root on my phone the other day and installed the Magic image and it works really well!
My question is does anyone know if browser uploads can be enabled somehow through root? I have a torrent server setup at a friends ISP and it would be really nice to be able to upload torrent files to it on the go. Is this currently possible or is there anyone currently trying to get it working?

you might rename this thread to something like Torrent/Browser Uploads .. there may be other people looking for info on this .. i honestly have no clue .. there is only one other thread talking about torrent connections and that's via tethering .. so there could be some connection

I guess I should elaborate, what I am talking about specifically is when you go to a page with an upload form, where you would normally select a file it just says "Uploads Disabled".
I'm not actually trying to do torrents on the phone, I essentially just want to upload a file over the browser.
Have you tried with the steel browser?

Most likely uploads like that are blocked by the carrier. If they allowed that it would bog down their network and slow everyone else down. The only uploads permitted are pictures to like facebook or myspace.
Well if i remember quite correct , it also says "UPLOAD DISABLED" when surfing via WIFI ..
Its more due to the fact that the G1 has no file browser by default and the published one doesnt go deep enough into the system (aka the browser just dont recognize them) ... :-Z

What torrent application are you running on this server? BarTor handles torrent uploads to several popular torrent clients (uTorrent, Vuze, KTorrent). If it's not one of those, we can certainly look into supporting the client you are using. I realize this is not quite the same as what you are asking for but I thought I'd chime in anyway.

This sucks .. for each site and upload a different app <.<
Huh? BarTor is one app, which enables download of torrent files from anywhere and upload to anywhere that is running one of the supported torrent download clients. It was only a suggestion as an option for darrin0101.
I get what you are saying though, and if this post was not specifically about torrent uploading, I'd probably not have commented at all. I wonder why no one has recompiled the browser with a file manager, or to use an existing one? I'd do it if I didn't have to download the entire android source to do it...
Well, i would if i could more than php and mysql ^^
I don't know if a filemanager can take the role for this because i dont know if the browser has a pick file hook
further this should be for nonrooted android users as well
But i would'nt say no to a fix for this only for rooted users :>
Just set up an FTP server on the remote system, and use one of the FTP clients on the market for uploading? uTorrent allows for automatic loading of new torrents in a specific folder.
Oh, and shall i upload pictures to websites this way too?
attach files to rapidshare this way too?
attach files at a forum this way too?
and so on..
has there been any progress on this yet? i would like to be able to upload pictures to my site, which is wordpress powered so i have an upload form.
Maybe give loccy a ring and see if he knows how.

I doubt that's doable granted it would probably involve modifying objects in the Browser.apk, so the people who would be able to use it on their phones would be the rooted users who can push modified browsers to their Android phones.
U have to use the oprea browser it let u upload anything.
i don't like opera too much, granted it works for this issue but the ui is ugly imho. besides i'm a bit ocd and i prefer to have the original pieces of software but working the way they should have been from the start. which usually means modding the stuff that came on the phone

i couldnt get opera to work on www.youtube.com
youtube.com probably won't work with any browser, at least until java for android comes out. why not just use the youtube app?
If you're like me you get really pissed that you can't download GMM [easily] on Opera or PIE6 or your computer without spoofing your user agent. So because I love you guys and I like starting threads I went onto Fmstrat's badass RegistryChanger site to create an IE version rollback (attached) and got the cab for the latest Google Maps, v3.0.1.5, for y'all to download here.
No idea what improvements this has over 3.0.1.4, probably nothing you'll notice, but hey, this is xda, gotta have the latest build of anything, right?
Love, Doug
Is there anyway to get gmaps to automatically upgrade itself? I couldn't find the option anywhere.
Nope, not to my knowledge, and given that putting an auto-update thing for a popular program weighing in at a megabyte for cell phones that often have slow connections or expensive connections (like when people travel overseas), you'll get too many people complaining about sneaky updating tactics and writing slashdot articles. Not to mention 99% of gmm users out there wouldn't notice the difference between this version and a several month old version and it probably wouldn't generate much more revenue for Google to force (or assist) everybody to update to the newest build.
On the other hand, it would be nice for us if we could get the google people to give this thing apptodate support. Why not. It would of course also be nice if a lot more devs would do that. Doesn't sound too hard... c'mon, devs, apptodate.
@d0ugie:
Appreciate the find ... do you know if it includes Latitudes?
Cheers,
Yes, it's got Latitude. Just like Street View, they'll soon stop going out of their way to announce that each version has Latitude.
I even had a server running for fun on my old symbian phone, not only torrent but also apache with python
I thought with all this opensource and so on such things will find their way to android much faster
http://www.cyrket.com/package/zerofate.torrentDroid
Haven't tried it, but it claims it can download torrents to your phone.
as i read it it seems more that u can download .torrents to your androidphone and that's it
that's lame ^^
The reason that BarTor, Torrent Droid, and Transdroid do not download torrents (the actual content as opposed to the torrent file) to your phone is because it would 1) bog down your system and 2) create unusually high data consumption which would likely result in the throttling of your data plan and potentially cause more restrictive data plans for everyone. Does it suck? Maybe. Is it practical to handle this way? I think so.
Well but it would be cool to see on the phone
And there's still wifi ^^
What about the Apachewebserver?
Yes, it would be cool. Wifi would not solve the first issue.
What about the Apache Web Server? Are you talking about i-Jetty?
Mhm,
http://mymobilesite.net/introduction/
i used this on my symbianphone, and small torrents with only a few seeder/leecher worked fine in background
I think the best way to download torrents to your phone is via a computer or server running a torrent downloading client, then when the download is completed, send the computer/server would shoot the files to the phone. This would reduce data consumption and increase performance and speed of download.
Use uTorrent and it's mini Web UI. Not downloading them to your phone, but it's my app of choice for downloading torrents when I'm away from home.
You can make a server to download your torrent then once completed you could connect to your server through FTP and download the full file. For FTP client you have AndFTP:
http://www.lysesoft.com/products/andftp/index.html
Install Debian and then apt-get install rtorrent, works ok, but as before there is little point to it. I suppose you could even install torrentflux as well but it would run like crap on the phone.

It's not the point that I really need to, I was just wondering as there is all this working fine for symbian^^

Anyone try this yet?
I installed it this morning, was pretty excited. However, it doesnt navigate to downloaded .torrent files on your sd. It says "to begin, use the browser to open a torrent file" but I cant seem to get my browser to just open a torrent file. Not sure if I'm not doing something correctly, or if the app is garbage. Anyone else?
Decided to try it out myself. I had no problems with using the browser to get torrents. Only problem i seem to have is that torrents from private trackers wont start.
for the people who have used it....is it worth getting? dont feel like buying then returning it if i dont like it...
trying it now seeing how it works
I've got it working now. Torrent wont start though, downloaded from mininova.

Hi guys!

I added an update today which should fix that private tracker thing. It was a problem with port collisions.. my fault.

If you're having specific problems, please send me the actual .torrent, your location, your network connectivity and your build.
Some people are claiming that it says they don't have space, but I can't recreate this bug and I'm wondering if it's a custom build thing.
