[Q] Flashing CNA 1.4 over Onecosmic 3.1 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I'm thinking of flashing the latest release of Codename Android(1.4.0) on to my Samsung Galaxy S i9000, currently running OneCosmic's RC 3.1. I hace no problems with the rom but i would like mor options etc.
In the CNA thread it states that a full wipe is neccesary, but I have read in the thread that you dont have to do a data wipe if you're comming from 1.3.3. Now, my question is this, do I have to wipe data comming from OneCosmic RC 3.1? And if I have to, is Titanium Backup working properly for ICS?
Thanks!

It's better to make a full wipe.
And yes, TB works with ICS ...
So it's no problem to make a full wipe and restore apps with TB. Only a few minutes of work ...

[Q] Dark Knight V4

V4 was released today and I have the following questions:
1) Download link not working
2) Does the modem have better wifi reception
3) Are there any included launchers
Thanks
1) http://www.mediafire.com/?3d6da7j5i306v7u - That link works.
2) Test different modems and see which you get the best with, at the minute my best is JVU.
3) Probably not, check? Also you can get more from the market / on here.

2. All Dark Knight Roms got no Modem pre installed. If you got a modem, u will keep it after flashing from ur earlier installations.
3. Try Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher from market.
Dark Knight rom got an pre installed Nova Launcher and this one runs very smooth (except the sporadic rom bugs )
TV
someone can say if digital tv is working in dark knight 4?

In this case how can I flash KB3 and where can I find it?
Also would you suggest formatting to ext4 and how should I do it so that I don't lose anything?
Hey guys, i flashed V4 and now my phone is stuck at the bootanimation (i had it booting for 20 min). I did a full wipe, wiped cache, wiped dalvik and even tried to reflash. Any suggestions?
edit: i got it working after 3rd reflash
I didnot like it.....
My suggestion: wait for an update
I have tried switching from V3 to V4 yesterday. I encountered problems with Titanium and GPlay kept FCing so I returned to my backup of the stable V3.
V4 was rushed out so I´m waiting for the next update.

Did you directly flash the ROM ? In that case you may face FCs often.
Better take a nandroid backup.
wipe cache and data
flash the rom
Rebot and let the phone start
Go to recovery and then from backuo and restore -> advanced restore -> select the backup you did -> restore data
I moved from Elite V7.1 to Dark Knight 4 and dint face any such issues.
in my case titanium crashed while restoring and couldn't complete the process.I think I'll stay on gb rom all the way till a gb-stable-and-smooth- like ics rom comes out.

I think it includes the devil kernel because I when i flashed V3 over stock ROM it changed to Devil Kernel
Stability
I can confirm that Dark Knight v.3 is much more stable than v.4.
Upgrading to v.4 I found these bugs:
1) After the first reboot I activated the wi-fi toogle and it started to switch on and off repeatedly. The system error that appears every time forces you to reboot the device.
2) Many users reported problems with titanium backup (I didn't try it)
3) Trying to move an application to USB (SD) causes a hotboot ( !!!! )
4) The new "Dark Knight" application crashes if you try (f.ex.) to install a new theme or a new battery icon ... after this crash you can no more change the battery icon from the ROM control menu.
I upgraded from Dark Knight 3, wiping everything before flashing as recommended. I made a second try upgrading from the original gingerbread 2.3.3 by Samsung (and wiping everything of course). The result was the same in both cases.
Stable DK4
If someone has flashed a stable DK V4 pls post the procedure that you have performed
Thought of going after this rom. But its better to wait for some better version in future with lesser bugs

Flashing ICS 4.0.4 stock w/ touchwiz from ParanoidAndroid v.0.5

Hi guys,
I recently got a n-7000, but before I read all the threads with the issues, that you can brick it and stuff I rooted it and installed Paranoid Android v 0.5 with a CM9 on 4.0.4. Needless to say all the S-pen apps are now unavailable and what I have is a bigger S 2. I love it and all don't get me wrong, and kudos to the developer for such a great hybrid, but I'm interested in the stylus as well because for me this is a replacement of a tablet.
My baseband is N7000XXLA3
Now I want to change my version to [ROM ICS404 LR6 08-8-12]~CleaNote 5.00~stock~root~NoteCore~Salty Snake edition and I was wondering do I just flash it over? Do I go back to a stable GB? What is the best way to do it?
I apologise before hand for any tech mistakes I made as I am a noob and thank you in advance for all the help.
When you are moving from different base (CM to ICS), I recommend to flash pre rooted GB ROM first, wipe cache, delvic cache, data and then update to newer ICS based ROM using CWM. This is safest way.

It's better to have a clean installation
just do :
wipe cache partition
advances ----> wipe dalvik cache
Actually you do.
Some may be lucky, but most aren't.
A clean installation is REQUIRED.
There's many complaining of FC's cause they simply wiped cache but didn't do a full wipe.
They're completely new builds (XXLS7 and XXLSA).
[Galaxy Note] [4.1.2] Ultimate XXLSA - 3G
hello,
I am allowed to continue in this thread for my question. Hoping that it does not pose a problem.
I installed on my V5 ultimate note I. A priori everything works normally except the 3G I can not recover when I leave WIFI. I have to turn OFF my notes in order to recover. Do you have this problem? thank you
I installed MODS different version V5. Can you reinstall eg XXLS7 version. If yes, in which directory the rom XXLS7 can we get the file?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S+ Questions

A few days ago I had 2.3.6 and updated to [ROM][ICS][IMM76L] CyanogenMod 9 RC (Build 2).
I made a backup before this, with CWM6. If I want to have my original android, 2.3.6, all I have to do is to restore that backup with CWM6?
Second question: I want to install [JB][ROM][CM10]SmoothieJB™ Smooth,Stable, Fast ϟ - v2 08.12.12. The instalation tutorial says this:
Installation
• Take a full backup ( be sure to do this )
• Wipe data and cache.
• Flash Smoothie-v2.zip.
• Flash Gapps.
• Fix Permissions
• Reboot.
• Most important step : Enjoy!

This is for Ginger only or for me too?
What "Fix Permissions" means? When I installed CM9, I didn't have to do that.
And something else: What is the best ROM for this

Doesn't matter if GB,ICS or JB, all I want is to be fast, no lag. I don't care about gaming, I play sometimes small games, not GTA and games that need resources.

First Question - I don't know about this , but if you want to restore it , you need to full wipe first and then restore
Second Question - Just go the Advance panel at CWM and fix permission
Third Question - Try using CM9 by Acro or latest CM10 by Ivendor
I have CM9 by arco: [ROM][ICS][IMM76L] CyanogenMod 9 RC (Build 2)
CM10 by Ivendor is better for what I need?
For me CM9 is more stable than CM10 , but it's up to you , there many plenty ROM in the forum

Just restore it from backup with CWM6. You can do full wipe first if you want but I don't think it's necessary. The only thing I suggest you to do is do backup your existing CM9. From now you will have 2 backups: GB & CM9 just in case something goes wrong with restoring. I would not expect you to brick the phone with restoring the backup - I have done it 100 times already and nothing like this has never happened to me.
First question:
you should flash a gb rom first because on my old phone (galaxy ace) the stock samsung rom use another file system
and 3. question, i think cm10 is much smoother and more battery friendly than cm9 but just try yourself

Re: 1st question - I tested this today on my own phone. If you want to restore either GB, ICS or JB you don't need to wipe anything and you don't need to instal any roms at first. All you need to do is restore backup. It is because recovery formats partitions and wipe all data before it restores from backup.
1st question: just restore the backup without Doping anything before
2nd one: the guide is for every Rom except smoothie JB then you have to only wipe cache and dalvik cache
Fix permissions is under advanced
3rd: if you want ics try cm by arco or biohazard and the castagnait kernel 7.5 extreme uv
And if you want JB try cm10 by ivendor or aokp Jb by crybert and the actual 2.6 diablo kernel
Hope i helped
chinese language
Guys I'm using [ROM][ICS][SmoothieICS v1.Do you know any way to add chinese language.appreciate

[Q] Mixed ROM and Kernel

Hi i'm new here, just installed Carbon Rom JellyBean v1.7 Release and the kernel is from the ROM itself (3.0.31-CM-g209ebe6)
Question is:
1) Can i install SpeedMod N7000 Jelly Bean Kernel on that ROM?
2) If yes, Can this ROM be installed with ANY N7000 Kernel?
Big thanks and sorry if i'm being too noob
And excuse my english, too
No, the speedmod is for the Touchwiz based [TW] ROMs. Carbon ROM is CyanogenMod [CM] based. So not all kernels can be installed on any ROM, when u read a kernel thread, you'll have the compatibility of the kernel with ROMs written in that. Never flash any kernel on an incompatible ROM, may lead to a brick.
Oh i see. So is it okay if i install CM9 Kernel on a CM10.1 ROM?
I am not sure about tthat, but better not flash it on CM10 as most likely it won't work, CM 10 is a totally new version. Better not try it.
No. You cant flash different version kernel on different roms. CM10.1 only supports CM10.1 kernels. Currently there are NX kernel and Asylum kernel for this.
Remember never flash different kernel on different rom. This will brick your device.
Alright thanks. Any recommendations of kernel that can do over clock and gaming ? Currently my Real Racing 3 just plays at 12fps.. That's unplayable for me. Thanks before
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
NX kernel for CM based ROMs, check out the various kernels in the Android Development thread... Many CM based ROMs will have the CPU frequency option in the performance control menu. Careful, overclocking can have adverse effects, may fry up the motherboard...
Thanks, that kernel should have increase my performance right?
But signal problem was reported if i'm not mistaken. So i'm a bit confused as i do a lot of phone calls.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192893&highlight=nx+kernel Read the features of the kernel in this thread. No there wont be any connectivity issues, NX kernel or the CM kernel are stable ones. If there are some issues, then flash a stable version of those kernels.
OK, when the process is successful, will i lose my data?
If you just flash the kernel then no you won't. You lose the data only if you do a Factory reset (Data wipe from the recovery). You have already installed Carbon ROM now just go to recovery and flash the .zip kernel file.
Then what about if i want to Change ROM , but it requires wiping data. If i restore the CWM backup , then it'll get to the previous ROM, no?
