[Q] Battery stats seem to fool me - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
today I noticed that my battery runs out of juice VERY VERY quickly (within 6 hours and nearly no use it dropped from 100% to 15%). I typed the *#0228# code to watch for realtime battery stats and they showed me 15%.
Now comes the weird part: There is a button called "quick start" and I hit it, being curious what might happen. Surprisingly my battery stats went immediately up to 50% again o0. I pressed it again to see what happens and this time the stats dropped to 44%. Again -> 58%, again -> 64%, again -> 49% and so on.
Does anyone know what this button does? I don't have any clue what it does and it seems as if my battery is fooling me. :>
Thanks in advance to all!
Cheers!

*bump* No idea, nobody? I can't find anything with Google nor in this forum... Has just nobody noticed the button or am I just plain stupid?

You could try recalibrating your battery. Search for battery calibration in the Market.

Doesn't really work =/ Thank you anyways very much Do you perhaps know what the "Quick start" button does?

Charge your battery at 100% go to cwm and Reset battery stats. thats all.

[Q] Charging a 3500mAH Extended Battery

Hello all,
I just received my new battery from obostore.com. I have cleared battery stats but it seems to be charging and discharging at the same level as my previous stock battery. Could it be that I am doing something wrong?
Battery calibration takes a few cycles to accurately read your new battery.. give it 3-4 cycles and see from there.
An alternative way than clearing from cwm is to use an app called battery calibration.
Cheers.
Thanks. Yeah I have used the battery calibration app. I haven't done one cycle yet and I'm just testing to see how much battery power it's giving me. I really hope it's more than double the stock battery, else I fear I would have gotten ripped off.

double the stock ? no for sure (from personal experience); just make sure u charge the battery 30 minutes after u see the "full battery notification".
deleting the batterystats file is pointless also all the app related since del the file dosent help.

All right. Well is it me or does the battery not last that long. I was expecting 2 days for it to last. It lasts so far a little bit more than 24 hours. Or do I have to let it go through more cycles of charging?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Well.. i do still believe that new batteries require a few cycles before it performs at full potential..
But for the 3500mah will last twice as much as original.. unless the fat battery itself is original made by LG or a trusted brand.. I will take the capacity label with a pinch of salt.
-full charge
-calibrate
-full discharge, untill phone cant be turned on
-full charge back w/o break, preffered overnite aftr shutting down phone
-use it normal
-after your 3rd-4th charge(not including above procedure's charging cycles) aftr this you should notice improvement
During these whole procedure dont wipe data/ dont install new rom.
Evenif you cant notice difference then ask for refund if possible.

Thanks. I am noticing some improvements right now yes. There are some apps which eat a lot of battery. Aside from apps, 3G tends to eat a lot of battery too. I think Skype also uses a lot of battery, to which I had to sign out. I'm on my 2nd or 3rd charge cycle and on this one, I am going to use it as normally as I can.

[Q] [i9000] Team ICSSGS RC3.1 - Battery Life

Hello everyone!
I've installed few days ago the onecosmic's ROM RC3.1, beatiful, perfect, smooth bla bla.
The problem is: i'm seeing so many post of people saying that with full charge, phone can stay alive for an average of 1 day- 1 day and an half (24-36h) with a normal use.
My phone can last 13-14h staying most of the time in standby and it's the 5th cycle so should be "stabilized" now. 1st cycle was awful, 8h (didn't expect anything else), then things got better but i've reached this cap of 14h.
I've tried Fugu kernel at first but i didn't get much improvement so i switched to paul kernel and changed modem too (jvk->jvt).
Still can't reach the dreamed 24-36h, i mean, i don't care about having 2 days of battery life, i would like to use the phone without having to charge it in the middle of the day.
btw nstools installed and set Deep Idle on, which seems to works just fine for me with the paul kernel.
(can't post outside link -.-)
nstools stats:
h*tp://i44.tinypic.com/6duvzb.png
does these stats means it's working?
i'll post also CPUspy stats:
h*tp://i43.tinypic.com/35052qf.png
is it everything ok here?
On standby there's no battery drain effect now, but when i'm using it, i get 1% down every 1-2 min.
What do you guys suggest? do i need to try other kernels/modems? shoud i try to flash again?
p.s. on 2.3.5 stock i used to have 24-36h but there's no way i'm going back to GB, i love ICS.
I used to have 24h of battery life, but I don't know what happened, after a week or so now my phone is draining 20% every hour, dead by noon...
Tried NStools with undervolt, and it didn't change anything.
It's now an useless piece of junk... this is retarded, either i will try reinstalling ICS or im going back to GB.

maybe your problem is caused by an app, or more than one, which are using push notification, you sould try uninstalling some...
Tried undervolt too, i got maybe an hour more.
Update: i just flashed again with RC3,1 and paul kernel. Situation seems a little better, gonna update again after few battery cycles.
What thing is in the battery status menu?
If it is media server: settings-->apps-->all--> Mediastorage-->force stop(dont wipe data)

sure! with the new paul kernel the battery life is better! amd now i'm trying the last glitch...my phone seems to work better...!i will hope to have also a good battery life without hard drain (with didle support maybe it's possible!)
actually, there was a lot of "Android OS" usage, maybe something went wrong from the beginning, the phone wasn't going to deep sleep state when put on stan-by and use more cpu than necessary when active, that must have been the main issue.
As i said, installed RC3.1 again this morning now everything is gooood
Lots of facebook, whatsapp, camera and 1 call, still have 67%. When put on standby battery almost doens't drop at all (checked on battery graph).
I think it's solved
I've the same problem. my battery life sucks...
Now my question. Where can I find/download the paul kernel? I#ll re-flash it too .
And my second question, do the "devil - der teufel" kernel do a great job too?

dunno about devil kernel, i read that for someone is even better than paul and it solves also "green screen" issue that appear when you lock the phone. I'm happy with this config so i won't touch it until RC4
I confirm that ,now, when my phone is in stand-by, battery usage is almost 0.
btw paul's kernel can be found here:

(sorry about the "*" in the url but it won't let me post link 'til i get 10 post -.-)
is also in the first post of the Team ICSSGS rom btw
I have flashed RC3.1 yesterday, it lasted for 8 hours. I was using it heavily to check all the features, syncing the contacts etc. I have drained the battery fully now. Will charge it upto 100% and see how long it last now with normal usage.

Battery Drain
hello everyone - I have been searching a lot abou this i9000 battery drain on ICS. I am using ICS and Devil karnel and battery lasts for around 11-12hrs. My usage is pretty normal. I dont use phone for most of the time but still it reaches to 12hrs mark. If I check battery stats then Android OS and Display (brightness is very low) are consuming most of the battery.
Please let me know if there are any ROM Tweeks or any other way to increase battery time. Or I will have to go back to GB because I hate charing battery two times a day.
Thank you.

again .. galaxy note battery

This is my first post here. Am kinda new to the forum
Well, i know this issue have been said over and over. But i didn't get anything out of other threads
I have my new gnote on stock ICS for 6 weeks now. It's battery drain rate was about 1 % every 5 minutes on browsing. Then one day i installed game "angry gran 2" from 1mobile market, because it said on playstore not available for ur country. And since that moment the battery went crazy. Drain 1 % every 2 or 3 minutes. I uninstalled it a day later and the problem is still there. This was about 10 days ago
I checked running apps nothing is different than normal
I dunt use face book app
I uninstalled samsung push service
GPS and location services are always off
The mobile goes into deep sleep very well no problem with that acc to CPU spy. The processor which usually works is 200 mhz then sometomes 1200 mhz
All settings since the day i bought it are set to save energy "lowest brightness, sync is off .... Etc."
Now the battery does not work notmally unless every charge i remove the battery for few minutes and put it back' i did this today before i turn off my phone battery was 92 % remived battery put it back and it's 87% ! :S
Yester day about twice after going to sleep i find batter increased 1%
Can you help me please to spot where the problem is ?
I have better battery stats but i dunt understand it
And one more question please, does having large number of apps even if not running in the background cause battery drain ?
Thanks all will greatly appreciate any help
+1 on that. My note's battery runs really fast and I'm not even using it for hardcore gaming. The battery gets really hot at times too.

Hi! Once I had a similar battery issue, but in my case it was after flashing a custom rom. Battery started draining much faster than usual. And sometimes battery percentage jumped up too. Have you tried to remove/insert battery, then fully charge your phone and when fully charged run "Battery Calibration" app from Play Store? Have a feeling it's not the solution for your battery issue, maybe a long shot, but still maybe worth a try if you haven't done that already?

There's no such thing as battery calibration apps, it's a con, you just put them through a few cycles and they're fully charged, modifying the battery stats does nothing for the use of the physical battery.

That is correct. The name of the app might be misleading. It does not do anything to the battery's physical condition at all.
The problem I had was that my "battery" suddenly started to drain very fast according to the battery icon in status bar. It dropped about 1%/min during screen off, and even faster with screen on. I charged my phone to 100% about 6 or 7 times. But as soon as I unplugged the cable I had that very quick drain. I guess the battery itself had much more capacity left than shown, it is in good condition... but that didn't help me because my note turned off when the battery icon showed it was low on % and I had to start charging again. Then I ran this app, which only thing it does is to simply delete batterystats.bin file if I understand it correctly. I don't know much about these stuff, but after that the usage time of my phone is back to normal again

I just had a look at Play Store and all the apps I saw that does remove batterystats seem to need root. Probably it is a system file you can't touch without root access then Also, the battery issue you have might be caused by something else.

Well i wish it can be solved this way ... Coz other option am.gonna take is downgrading to GB then factory reset as i understood this won't brick my phone if I got it carrectly
May be it's calibration thing ... Check the attatched photo the batteru since 3 a.m. To 9 a.m. Is almost at same level or increasing .. Maybe it's some kinda of system calibratoon of battery indicator against battery fast drain while working .. I dunt know
In system settings > battery: what is reported there?
Have you tried boot in "safe mode" to see if it still drain the same way? It will exclude most of user installed stuff as your downloaded apps and such from running.
But remember you might loose some user settings on your phone when booting normal again after safe mode.

although battery calibration app does nothing to do the battery hardware, but it does calibrate on how the battery percentage is being read by your phone. It wiped your battery status, allowing 100% charged to be read as 100% charged. sometimes, due to various reason (ie. flashing without fully charging), your battery status will be inaccurately read by your phone. For example, you charge your phone upto 2000, havent completely charged to the max capacity (2500) but the phone already read 2000 as 100%. and because of this, it will look like your battery drain really fast or the percentage jumping up and down. i guess.
wiping battery status requires you to have root access. thus, this app will only work when you have rooted your phone.
it is true that after a few cycles (not sure how many times) of charging the battery status may go back normal but hey, if we can make sure to do this calibration with only one cycle, why we have to do more?

My battery is crazy. Yep in deep sleep some times it increase 1 % .... On the other hand while working with the phone it drains very rabidly at a rate 3-3.5 % per minute .... Either on wifi or not ... It's normal rate used to be 5 % per minute till the day iinstalled that game and the problem persists even after i removed it
As for the explanation in the thread ptovided it does not make sense to me .. Because every time the battery jumps up the battery drain becomes soooooo rapid afterwards

There's Dr ketans thread on rooting in the stickies of development section, it's very simple.
After 1 or two full charge cycles, the battery will recalibrate itself, no need for any app, they don't do anything anyway.

Hello everyone, need some advice. I am unable to know if my battery is functioning normal or should i get it replaced. Please see the atached picture. You will see that my battery draining off within 4hrs with 2G data on. It has been happening from past 2 weeks. Just want to know if it is normal on 2G. Or should i get my battery replaced with a new one. I have read somewhere that with 2G battery of Galaxy Note lasts for about 6 to 7 hrs. Mine goes for just 4 hrs max.
Few details about my usage:
1. Data sync is not on all the time. But for every half an hour i keep data sync on for 30 for 40 seconds max to retrive mails.
2. I dont not watch any videos, online or on mobile.
3. I dont play games at all though i have around 20 games bcoz of this poor battery life.
4. I do not do video calling.
5. With the above usage and little bit of online videos using wifi, I get around 3 to 4 hrs of battery life.

[Q] Battery drain

Hey Guys,
i use SS_KINGCobra Build 6, thanks samer for this rom!
But my BatteryLife isn't better than on other roms, it falls down from 89% to 20% in 12hours. I saw a picture where this rom lastet for 3days? I just saw it uses ltx kernen from lexmark. How can i configure him or is it already done. How can i get the Stock Kernel again? Didn't know that samers rom overflashes my kernel :/
Also a reboot costs me 4% of battery life :/ any ideas?
Otherwise, How can i improve my battery life
Also sometimes my phone crashes, i lock it, put it into my pocket put it out again and then its rebooting. But this failure don't happens everytime, it comes from time to time. I already had this problem, my stock battery was broken. So i bought a new one from HTC (Original Sensation Xl Battery) and now my phone is only charging till 89%. The first 2 weeks it was ok, but now the "crash" appears again.
Thangs in advance!
haendler
No one can help?
You can improve it bu dimming the screen, putting automatic sync off, turning 3g off, chanching cpu governor...
With mobile data on, and if you use the phone, you cant get 3days batterylife with any rom.
Hey AlluXX thank you for your response,
here is picture of my battery drain, it looks very strange. The break down to 0% are when the phone crashes and on that day it happend rlly often.
My phone is in daily use, nearly 24 hours in wlan. But at the moment the battery of the phone doesn't not even last till the evening (12-14hours). I'm kind of sad because samer said: "epicbattery", it's not epic at all. With other roms (fshami or stoanas) it lasted around 24 hours to be at 5% with the same usage.
Hopefully some1 can help me.
Thanks in advance.
haender
if you're using the LTX kernel you can try to download the CPU Master Free and set the scaling to smartassV2. That's a better balance and can/will improve your battery.
I had also the issue that my phone crashed often for some reason with the stock HTC battery. I noticed that the battery is a little bit to small so it's moving when the phone is moving heavily. Squeeze your phone very softly and you could recognize that the battery isn't really fixed. That was the reason why my phone crashed. After that I replaced the battery with a Polarcell battery what is good fixed so I never had that issue, I guess. But now I'm using the Stock battery again but without any issues (I don't know why). I'm sure that it's a little bit too small 'cause sometimes I was not able to start it after a crash until I pushed the battery back in. Sorry that sound so stupid in english and your screenshot is in german, so: (Drück den Akku einfach mal rein, ohne dein Handy zu öffnen. Es kann der Grund dafür sein, muss es aber nicht.)
Let me know if I could help you
hey all,
thank you rachorid for your help! I downloaded CPU Master Free and now the performance of the Battery is good. At the moment its running since 14hours and i am at 58% left. Going to test it how long it'll last. But don't forget to set on master cpu free ("set on boot") else there won't be any results to your phone ^^.

But there where still the Problem with the Reboot / crash of my phone and now i think i have figured out what the problem was:
Like Rachorid wrote the Battery could move <1mm in my SXL Case and that was the Problem, the contact didn't fit for 100%. With folded piece of paper. Maybe i could help some1 which has the same problem as i had.

I tested all the kernel settings, you can set on boot wbatever setting you want, no bootloop!
Well, you could get some random not-boots using BFQ scheduler, but i think i fixed that from what i remember.
Check my kernel thread for more infos about how to set your setrings for battery life and so on.
My recommandationa is using Conservative 149-1497, sio sched.

[Q] Battery drain

Hi mates, i recently root my HTC ONE and installed both Android Revolution HD with Sense, and also ElementalX kernel.
I do it in that order, then I reboot but...
Battery drops 1% every 10 minutes without usage...
¿Can you please help me?
I'm new in the forum but I have a rooted Moto Xoom, so I now what I am doing, but not what I am doing wrong...
Sorry for my English.
I have just use BatteryCalibration (when I was 100%) but nothing seems to change.
I also tried, right now, with Power Guard, but I am not sure it does anything....
I wait for some answers, please be explicative if you can.
Thanks a lot, nice to meet you all.
install better battery stats. that'll point you in the right direction in trying to figure out what's eating your battery up.
greenify is really good at reducing battery use, but batteryguru is really useful once it has finished its learning phase. Also, have you got the latest firmware installed for the rom?
It is the last version. The 30.
I am going to install BetterBateryStats. Whats next?
I think installing the ROM with low battery can be an issue. Can it help to reinstall ROM?
Ido not know if matters, but Sense 5 mods are not working even restarting.
.thanks in advance, i will wait for answers
I have some new information.
Battery drains a little slower, but when I entered Camera app, it does not appear Zoe option, although it is the native application.
I must say that I have flashed my rom through the recovery mode, not fastboot. ¿It is needed?
Search the thread for this, as it is mentioned in there. Also mentions possible fixes and causes.

same problem battery drain
i also have the same problem
my battery drains like 2% every 5 minutes although it is in sleep, screen locked.
i don't know what is draining my battery like this bad.
Try to disable Google Now "search" features.
Then Go to settings --> power --> disable "fast boot"
reboot phone properly using menu
Check battery drain. Note 100-98% goes fast then slows down
Enable google now search.
