I just received a captivate from a friend, and naturally, I immediately rooted, flashed, etc. The wifi doesnt work at all, it will not turn on. I have tried MIUI4, MIUI, and an ICS rom, wifi doesnt work on all three. On top of that the radio doesnt work very well, no 3G, and when it says it has EDGE it still doesnt work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Did it work while you were stock? Can you flash back to stock and check? It might be time for a master clear and return to stock. That way you can be sure it is working properly.

Do you receive any messages when you try to turn it on or does it show that it's on and it just won't connect?

Out of the blue yesterday my phones reception went dead. I have tried to change the settings for the bands, but still no luck. It does come up with the radio version. Everything is working as it should, just no radio connection. Wifi and BT both work fine. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You haven't paid your phone bill, have you?
Seriously, have you tried with another SIM card?
All my bills have been paid, lol.
I have tried 2 other SIM's and no luck. All 3 SIM's work in any other phone. Thanks
Hi
Just check if u get the Radio versions when yr device boot.
Also chk if u can open yr contacts. If no then rename the PIM file and reboot.
I hope this solves
It popped back up on its own. I wasnt doing anything to the phone and it just started to connect to a tower. Thanks for the suggestions. If it happens again, I hope not, I will try that out.
Looks like I spoke to soon. I went to soft reset the device and the same thing is happening again.
I do get the radio version when I boot up and my contacts work fine. Everything seems to be fine except the GSM radio part. Back to the drawing board.
I have a captivate that has been rooted and is on the cognition 4.5 rom. I lost the phone a while back, so I deactivated the service. Then a couple of weeks later I found the phone and reactivated the service. Everything was working fine, except for my wifi. When I would try and turn it on, it would just give me an "error" message. So then i tried restoring to an older backup to see if that would work. Still had the same problem. I then tried flashing back to stock 2.1, still didn't work. Then i updated to stock 2.2, and it still didn't work. Same error message in all instances.
How do i fix this?
Does your wireless router have a button on it to connect a device instantly, that works for me. Also try toggling airplane mode, that also works.

No my router doesn't have that button. And I have already tried the airplane mode On/Off. Still getting error message

Are you still under warranty? If so take it in for replacement.

I am not sure. Call AT&T and see if technical support can help you get it up and running. I am not being a jerk, this isn't sarcastic at all, use the search button on this forum and the Captivate General forum. Others have been in your shoes and got it working, I think those threads may help you get yours fixed. Wish I could offer more help
I know sometimes it is as simple as removing encryption from your router or setting up a static ip address for your phone. I am not familiar with these methods but I have read many threads and posts on the subject.

Thanks anyway
Just flashed back to KG3 on my I9000M from CM7.
Everything works great, until I try to use Wi-Fi. The first time I tried using it, it worked for a couple of minutes, and then the connection seemed to "die" (the wireless remained connected but there was no data transfer). Since then wireless seems to work very intermittently - sometimes it'll work, other times it won't. If it works, it'll work for a minute or two only. Disabling and reenabling Wi-Fi fixes this for another minute or two. You get the drift.
There have been a few instances as well where when I enable Wi-Fi and it rapidly switches between turning on, on, turning off and off. It'll do this a few times then finally "give" up and remain off. If I turn it on again it'll usually work.
Searching returned some results about using static IPs, and using AllShare to connect. Neither of those work.
I don't mind living without Wi-Fi access but when I'm home it's certainly nice to have.
Any ideas?
Flash it again. Maybe will be working

I factory reset the device and things are a bit better.
From my tests it appears that the devices loses connection abilities when it doesn't maintain a constant connection to some source.
I tried the app "WiFi Fixer" on the Market but it didn't do anything.
Any ideas?
yeah, flash stock rom to see if it makes the same things.

I just added holics custom ROM for S-On and I flashed the boot.img and did all that.
Everything works perfectly intill you get to the wifi. At first it worked and it last for about a good 20 min.
Then next thing you no it says network error.
but it says im still connected. but the internet stuff doesnt work.
So I forget my wifi and then try it again but it wont let me connect. Ill click the button to connect. And nothing happens
The only way I get it to work is I have to constantly unplug my router and turn it back on. And its frustrating....
Ive tried logging on to other wifi connections and they work just fine. But why cant I get my home wifi to work.
It all went bad when I just downloaded holics rom... idk if AVG is blocking it. Because I just installed that too..... But it couldnt be because it works for a little bit.
Please someone help me. :crying:

Hello everyone, since I got my cappy I've been delighted by it, it's an awesome phone, even more so when you get to root and update it, now here's the problem: my wifi keeps acting up. First it was the autenticating loop, now my cappy connects but doesn't send or receive any data. I know it's not my router since I have other wifi enabled devices and they can connect and use the wifi properly. Been trying changing from WPA to WPA 2 and auto, no luck. Been trying setting static IP, no luck. It just... sits there connected and not sending. He worked properly in stock, hence I tried going to stock, and then reflashing, no luck.
I used cyanogen and slim bean, with custom semaphore and cyancore, and different basebands (namely ugkg3, tubjv6, bvjjw2) I hope someone can help me on this since this is the only flaw I've encountered so far with this awesome phone.
Thank everyone in advance, and have a nice day.
EDIT: Forgot to add, when I freshly flash a ROM it works perfectly... Until some time passes (around 4 hrs) or until I attempt to download something higher than 20 mb+. Then the issues start.

Wifi drivers are coming from the kernel, therefor, I'd suggest other kernels. If that doesn't work, try another ROM (like AoCP). If the problem still persists, I'd suggest flashing stock KK4 and starting over.
Hey! Thank you for your suggestions, yeah I've been seeing some improvements using unofficial semaphore so I'm sticking to it right now.
God I love this phone. Haha. Thanks again.
