Why my GPS and location is messed up? - LG Optimus Black

Hi, my hometown is in assam and i was there a few days before but after coming back here in kolkata when i open my maps or any other location based service it still shows my location back in assam. There were 2-3 times when it showed my actual position but now it doesn't anymore. What the he'll is wrong?

You should install a GPS testing program, for example GPS Essentials (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mictale.gpsessentials ) and see if it can correctly detect the satellites and get your position.
Also, make sure you're in the open when trying to get your position, GPS doesn't work indoors, you need "clear line of sight" to the GPS satellites (so there shouldn't be anything solid above your head, for example a building or a roof).
If GPS Essentials (or any other GPS testing app) gets your position but the position itself is wrong then i really have no idea what could be wrong.
Also, you might want to try one of the GPS Fixes from the forum, they should improve the time needed to get a fix (for me it took about 3-4 minutes without the modification, now it gets a fix in less than 30 seconds).
For GPS Fixes/improvements take a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22798187 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11342772

I have gps test from the market, and previously it got a perfect fix within 30 seconds from a cold start. But now the program can see 2-4 satellites max but it never gets a fix. I reseted my device twice still no help. I am really torn. I don't understand what's the problem?

[DEC.05.2011] Instantaneous GPS Fixation v1.2! *FOR ALL ANDROIDS PHONES!*
I have installed:
- Gps.conf file for asia, includes 24 countries.pool.ntp.org (includes India)
- GPS fix (Qbanin)
- SuplRootCert
it works like a charm for me... lock satelites at 2 minutes in open air (avoid buildings)
or if it doesn't work for you, look for mularameez thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494862&page=2
because he's from india too, but my device cant lock sattelite with his method (Im from Indonesia)...
maybe you should try both, and see which one is the best for you

GPS problem

My N1 is very difficult to fix GPS.
When indoor, I lost all stas, and when outdoor, with out cloud, it take about 3-4 min for fix GPS with 6-8 stas.
I try some solutions in here, but no lucky.
my N1 rom: cyanogen nightly build (last)
radio: 5.08....
Plz help me
Indoor fix will always be difficult to impossible. Nothing out of ordinary.
For quick outdoor fix - do you have data connectivity? Or you're not using 3G data? If not - that's the reason for a long fix time.
If you do have cellular data, try going into your APN settings and changing your primary one so that the APN type says:
default,supl
This greatly improved my lock time.

Cyanogen 6 definitely has a GPS issue: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=2090
While AGPS settings improve the performance, something is still wrong. I remember stock Froyo to be a 5-20x times faster at getting a GPS lock (I've had cases with a clear blue sky where it's taken 120 seconds to get a GPS fix, before it was a max of maybe 10 seconds).
Also I notice that with GPS Status, I see 1, 2, then 3, 4 satellites show up, then they all disappear... and it starts again, until it gets around 7-8 satellites and gets a lock with 32m accuracy and then the precision slowly increases...
I wish someone could tell me 1) what change Cyanogen has implemented that causes this behavior 2) how to revert back to the old GPS code.
Strange. Your experience doesn't match mine. CM6 here on an AWS Nexus One, with the newer radio. I can get a lock in seconds on GPS Status.

ever since my switch to cyanogen i have had same problem
Cmstlist, turn off your data (3G and wifi) and try getting a lock with GPS Status so you can see the progress. I'm running the Rogers/AT&T version, and this bug drives me crazy. I'm running the 9/20/2010 nightly, but even RC3 had this bug.
Well if you remove access to aGPS, of course you'll take longer to get a lock.
My guess: stock N1 gets a faster lock because it has a supplementary cache of offline GPS info supplied by gpsonextra. The urls for gpsonextra appear in /etc/gps.conf in CM6 but I'm betting it doesn't function properly on an AOSP firmware. Can anyone prove my instinct right or wrong?

I've checked on Enomther's build I'm running, which is also AOSP ROM. The most significant correlation of GPS lock time I've noticed was only with data connectivity rates. I've used GPS Status, and it took ~5-10 seconds to lock both in the open near my house and on the moving train at 150km/h in a significantly changed location, with the only thing being common - there was good 3G reception in both areas. Both times it locked in 2 "batches", 3 satellites being locked in the 1st one, and another 5-6 in the 2nd one. The first "batch" is probably strong satellite signals that were locked after Almanach download almost immediately, and the other "batch" might have been post- Ephemeris download. Either that or it has gpsonextra functional - but in any case, the lock is super-fast when the data rates are good.
On the other hand, the data registered on Traffic Info is only 40k download and 20k upload - even on GPRS it won't take long. But the base station needs to support aGPS - that's also something to consider.

Is it really a gps issue?

Greetings,
I download GPS test from the market and the GPS finds satellites within a second. Yet when I access google's navigation program, it just says searching for GPS and after about 15mins I get a GPS connection.
I've tried most fixes but none of them seem to work. So rather then spending hours trying to get google's navigation to work effectively, should I be trying another program or am I just missing something?
Thanks in advance.

How many satellites does your phone find? For a position you need minimal 4 satellites (3 fir Position 1 for the high)

Edit: Forget to ask: Does the GPS Test app shows you GPS Position/Data?
Plus what is the signal strength?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
That's probably because Google navigation also possibly waits until a certain level of accuracy is reached too.. 200m accuracy is useless for navigation..
you may find satellites fast but from a so called "cold start" it takes up to 10 minutes to lock onto several satellites before it can calculate your position. this should change when you use it more often in the same location. you may then also set it to "hot start" - see SGStools app - GPS service menu - or search the GPS forums here. good luck

Gps is not working anymore

Hi all, my gps seems not to work anymore, i had this phone sice 3 months and used gps few times; in this 3 months i did only one official firmware upgrade , from v10a to v10c , italy no brand) and today i discovered that my gps wont lock any satellites, i tried with gps status, it shows 2 or 3 satellites but it can't join them...
any suggestion? (i tried hard reset 2 times, fixing methods by severl guides, but nothing change) help please!
weird, i have a friend who had the same problem, but he only did was factory reset then WALAH! his gps is working..
My bad , i did a noob mistake ! I just realize that gps for working need 3g antenna... i was in 2g only + wifi and i thought was enough

I've the same problem, but my GPS worked previously only with 2G no need of 3G.
It works both 2g 3g and offline.
Slow to make a fix though even on 3g. Offline fix is painfully slow 3-4 minutes with good visibility and no obstacles (trees , high buildings etc)
After flight from Spain to UK took more than 5 minutes for offline fix Ouchhh.
Position error is pretty high too 30 to 50 metres on average in the city and thats on fast internet (i drive a lot ).
But stil works even if it is an excuse of working.
There's no guide or fix for standalone GPS performance.
face it!
second, all the guided/apps/scripts etc that exist, are for A-GPS function.
NOT all people have internet on their cellphone or a big data plan so they can enable it everytime they need to get a GPS Fix.
The only truth is, that P970's GPS implementation is a total CRAP!
(I have the P500 too, that locks -always on standalone GPS- even inside my house near a window)
I dont agree , i can make a fix in less than 30 sec offline at the open
Sent from my LG-P970 using XDA App
This has happened to me before and i needed to restore the official rom, and wipe everything even the recovery.
I agree with morx. Without A-GPS a few minutes, with A-GPS a few seconds. But Optimus One was excelent - two or three seconds without A-GPS, even in a building.
My problem is not time, is the module not working. I've tried with a-gps and waiting for hours, but not even one satellite. I've tried faster fix, and all that stuff. Is the module not working.

Warm fix maybe, cold fix not likely
Cold fix meaning a big enough distance from last fix position.
I like to test with at least 30 km difference

[Q] No GPS Fix

Hi All,
I got problems getting gps fixes in Germany (Aachen)
In fact, i wont get any gps fix at all, i tried the app "gps status" but nothing happens.
i tried changing the pool servers in gps.conf to de.pool and europe.pool servers,
set near countries (be, nl, lu, fr) as secondary servers and nearly every gps fix thread i found in the last 2 weeks but still nothing works
second mysterius thing is that in my hometown (Duisburg, germany too) there is no problem with my gps connection and i got a fix in like 30seconds.
i dont know if that problem occurs because Aachen is really near to 2 countrie's frontiers but i really ran out of ideas what to try :/
no matter how hard i try to find something myself or edit the gps.conf my gps status keeps like this all the time (attachment)
please help me :/ (and excuse my bad english *blush*)
1. Try "GPS test" from the market. This app will show you the satelites and their position. If after about 20 min. outdoor nothing is showed you have a hardware or rom-problem.
2. If a sat. is shown mybe you have wrong configuered firewall. I don´t remember the process which get the gps-position by the servers.
3. I had never problems with any server, all works fine for me, but with the app "fasterfix" you can change them and give an european a try.
Hope can help you.
1. When im in a good position GPS test and GPS status occasionally see a satellite or two, but they disappear as fast as they appear :/
2. i dont use a firewall at all, i think.. is there a android standard firewall or something?^^
3. i tried fasterfix and some gps.conf tricks from xda, too
also i tried adding or changing different pool.ntp.org servers in my gps.conf
but nothing helps :/
the real funny thing is, that saturday and sunday i was in Duisburg and used GPS for Running and Cycling (Endomondo 30km~) and had nothing near a problem, no edge or something that could indicate gps problems, satfix in under 1 minute and stuff.
Now, back in Aachen, most gps using apps tell me there is even no gps available :/
the hardware and rom didnt changed at all, i really dont know why this mean little thing wont work
thanks for your reply btw!
You should get a gps-fix with gps-test outdoor within 20-30min without an internet-access. Be patient, due a totally new allocation via gps without server-support can take a lot of time (sat-search, time-fixing …). Sats appear and disapper, this is normal during a totally new allocation. After this you can discard a hardware/ROM – problem.
If this work, you can search for the server-access issue to get a faster gps-fix.
P.S.: Android normally haven’t a firewall in stockROM and your attachment in your first post can’t be shown.
The attachment was just a screenshot of GPS status showing no satellites, but trying.^^
so i will try to go out and let that little mean phone search the sky for satellites now^^
humpf... no effect at all...
Then I recommend to go back to stock-ROM (without root of course) an contact the LG support and send it back (don’t forget nandroid backup!). Maybe try it a last time with stock-ROM 30 min outdoor before (to get sure).
It seem to be a hardware defect. The phone don’t get enough signal strength (maybe antenna contact).
Good luck!
May be you can try ny method because i'm using it and it works onder for me..

Very poor GPS performance on s5830i

Ok, I'm fixing this phone for someone who had complained to me that it doesn't ever get a lock. I had downloaded GPS status and found out it hardly discovers any satellites. For comparison's (or rather no-comparison's, lol) sake I was standing outside for almost 2 minutes and all it got was it discovered only 3 satellite(that too in grey) in that time while my galaxy s3 was able to get 12 sat lock in less than 15 secs..
Anyway coming back to the point, is it just only me or its an common issue with this set?
I did try modifying the gps.conf to put NTP and XTRA server in there, however it doesn't seem to do anything. Is there anything which can be done ?
For the FIRST TIME, It will take sometimes to connect to the GPS satellites. Try GPS Test tool to view GPS data and you can clear GPS data from here.
If you are using a custom rom, startover flashing the same.
