He said, his can he change it, not turn it off!
If you search for a boot animation on xda. If its a zip, flash it.
There is an app on android market that also changes the boot animation but I prefer zips

Get your new bootanimation (zip format) and put it in your SD card. Now on your phone, with a file manager such as root explorer, copy your new bootanimation in /system/media. If you want to overwrite the previous one, it's ok, do it. If not, rename it to bootanimation.zip.bak
I know that, I have gingerdx v022 and I already change bootanimation to official soyericsson, but I have alfs kernel and I want to put sonyericsson logo instead of "free experia project" or sth like that. Is that possible?

I guess you would have to modify the kernel to do that. That is the kernel logo that is probably stick there till you change/get original kernel.

[01/21/11] These new .zip files are updated to work with all versions of CWM, the scripts are both Edify and Amend friendly. Enjoy!
Previews:
Startup
Shutdown
Shutdown 2
Shutdown 3
There are 6 files attached here, all flashable through ClockworkMod. The titles of the files should be self-explanatory. You'll notice that one of the .zip's will flash you back to the stock Epic boot and shutdown sounds.
I've confirmed that they work with DI18 stock (rooted), DK28 stock (rooted), and Bonsai 1.1.4, so I don't see why they wouldn't work on any ROM.
Your phone must be rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery (any version).
*I suppose I must do the obligatory I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU JACK YOUR PHONE UP*
Instructions:
- download flashable .zip and flash through clockwork.
That's it, reboot and enjoy!

No, the sound effect is a portion of (what I believe to be) the Droid Incredible boot sound; I created the "epic" and associated sound processing.

Pretty sweet! It does kind of remind me of the first time I saw Optimus Prime transform in the live action move. The "Epic" part is a nice touch.
Need help getting this to work. I have done every step to the T, and still no avail. I have custom boot animations as well as custom boot sounds but, for some reason this one file just says unsupported file type after clicking on it in /system/etc folder. It plays while on the sdcard itself. So if you know a work around that would be great cause this boot sounds is awesome.

This is probably a dumb question, but did you unzip the .wav first? Assuming that you did, you should have a file on your sd card with the name "PowerOn.wav"; if you copy that file into /system/etc you should have no problem. Verify that you have a file in that folder with that exact name, not just the "PowerOn.bak" that you may have created in backup up your original boot sound.
What file manager are you using? I've done this using both Astro and Root Explorer and am able to select the file in /system/etc and it plays on the built in music player.
Added the option to flash through clockwork, updated OP with options.
very nice I will install this
reminds me of transformers or THX
Just flashed the CWM zip and dangit still nothing. I must have changed something in that folder. Im going to reinstall my rom and see if that fixes my prob. I really want this boot sound.

You read my mind! I've been learning about how to make one today. The only catch is, it will only work on a ROM with a custom kernel, or a kernel that has been modified and re-compiled. Currently the only Froyo ROM that I know of that this might be an option with is Mammon's Bonsai ROM (which is what I run).
I'll keep fiddling and see what I can come up with.

Im having an issue changing my shutdown animation. There is one in another forum called tv power off animation i am trying to load. I have a captivate running cognition. I put the file in the system/ media/video folder but its not working. Any ideas? or advice? thanx for any help
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
I believe that animation is a Gb only. If it where to work on froyo Im almost sure you would need to modify files for it to use that anim. Assuming its even possible.
i think you have that backwards....
its for froyo the shutdowm .qmg for gb hasnt been modded....the best you can do on gb is delete shutdown.qmg and then you will just have the "POWER OFF shutting down" window and then it powers off. no blue 'S' or animation at all
although the OP didnt specify what cog hes on or give a link to the animation in question so it could be a new one for gb and he is on froyo...
but i dont think so...
I thought he ment the crt animation that GB has.
Ed05 gingerbread power of animation is the forum i found it in and i am running cog5 v 2. so it sounds like it wont work on the captivate? in the forum its for the fascinate.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
i think the problem here is you are confusing SHUTDOWN animation with screen-off animation....my guess is that anything made for the fascinate wont have the exact same framework as the captivate....
Well in the forum i am referring to it is a shutdown animation not a screen off animation. And thats why i am asking to see if it will work?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Anyway you could perhaps maybe idk link us so we know what you're talking about exactly?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1205249 Hope i can and thanx for all the help
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
what you are requesting is a mod for a 2.2.2 rom...and you are trying to run it on a GB rom
its just shutdown animation. i dont think GB uses the same animations that froyo used, so if its not working, you will need to find one for GB.
Which brings us back to my first post...

that would be an accurate statement if he was looking to replace the BOOT ANIMATION, but he is looking to replace SHUTDOWN animation...
So is there any custom shutdown animations for gb on my captivate? cuz i cant find any.

Here is solution for you..

2.)Open SD card and delete files you put for install ICS
3.)Go to folder where you downloaded ICS and copy the main folder without others to your SD card
4.)Unplug your phone and return SD card to your x8
5.)Power on your mobile and enter in the xRecovery
6.)Use full wipe to delete all data from phone
7.)go to install zip from SD card, select your ICS folder and install it
8,)Rebot your phone and it will work
IF STILL DOESN'T WORK DOWNLOAD THIS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473602

If yes then it will not allow installation of huge apps directly
you have to do manually with any app with root access like titanium backup or root explorer..
