How to remap the G-key to any app? - LG Optimus Black

I saw threads remap the g-key to camera. But I want to map it to a volume app.
Thanks for the help.

Here is what i found;
1.Firstly, you need a rooted LG Optimus Black.
2.Find the file“TWL4030_Keypad.kl”, it’s in /system/usr/keylayout/
3.Backup the file, copy or rename.
4.Then open the “TWL4030_Keypad.kl”, scroll down to 3rd line from the bottom, it should be “key 95 GESTURE”.
5.If you want to use your phone’s “G Button” as camera button, change it to “key 95 CAMERA WAKE_DROPPED” (Once you launch the camera app, you can press the “G button” to take a picture immediately)
6.If you want to use use your phone’s “G Button as power/lock button, change it to “key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED”
7.Save the changes and reboot the device.

You get the trick right? With a little luck you can remap it to anything you want. You can write volume i guess... But volume has 2 options "+" and "-". So even if you manage to do it you will only be able to remap one of them. It's either "volume +" or "volume -" Since G is only one button.

Thanks a lot man!
The Volume i mean is just an ordinary app from the market called "volume toggle free". So an instruction about remapping the gkey to any app should work. How?

Configure Press and Hold for other buttons

I am currently using Dutty's newest rom. For the PTT button I am able to define what happens when I hold the button.
I would like to add the ability to close the program when I hold the OK button (button 4). Is there a good way to add the (hold) option in the button settings for all buttons?
Thanks,
-Dan
For ALL buttons? Even the camera? Then what? How will you take pictures?
Have you searched? Someone wrote a program to do this, I read it yesterday. Try searching. I know you are new, but the search button will be yoru friend.
Well, I guess not all buttons. I just would like the option to configure two things for each button.
Through my search I found AE button. I tried that, but was unsuccessful to get it to work properly. I am attempting to remap the side OK button. Remapping the "OK" button only applies to the front OK button.
I think more of my issue is that I am trying to remap the side button, is that possible? I imagine many people would love to be able to close programs using this button.
I hate to be so wrong, so quickly.
My mistake, AE button is exactly what I was looking for it. I was remapping the wrong button. Although it isn't easy to use, I recommend it to all.
I would prefer a reg-tweek to add the option to the buttons dialog, but this will do.

This is the simplest and non 3rd party way to remap your buttons for long press. No need to install a program.

Would you recommend remapping the volume buttons?

Just wondering if people have done it and didn't like it, or vice-versa. It does seem bad for the hardware, but I can't stand softkeys/button saviour.
If you're using nookie Froyo, you can try the MENU/BACK soft buttons in the status bar mod, instead of remapping the vol+/- buttons. I've been using it since it came out, and can confim it works for nookie Froyo 6.7. Here's the link to the original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932631
It does have it's issues, mainly with the stock browser, and causing it to FC. Other than that I have not noticed any other problems.
If you are interested in useing the mod, but don't know how to install it, let me know. I'll pm you or post instructions.
I absolutely recommend remapping the volume buttons. Softkeys is nice, but kind of a pain sometimes. For instance, when I would view pictures in the XDA APP, I would have to restart the app instead of backing out, for some reason softkeys wouldnt let me back out of the picture viewer. It's just much easier to have the menu and back buttons always available than rely on software. I installed volume volume control if I need to adjust volume for some reason.
Is there an app that puts volume in the status bar that anyone knows of?

Yup... I've got a Pandigital Novel(white v2) w/custom fw and it'd be essentially useless w/o re-mapping the vol keys to menu and back along with soft-keys in the notification bar...
NC has one up on the WPDN though, it has the n home key plus the 2 vol keys and volume can be controlled through setting or a quick-settings app anyways or by adding soft-keys... still no substitue for physical keys or capacitive screen keys though, unfortunately... (spoilt by gtab with the full complement...)

I'm sure you guys know where I'm screwing up. After I adb pull, I only get this
/system/usr/keylayout/twl4030-keypad.kl -> ./twl4030-keypad.kl
/system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl -> ./qwerty.kl
/system/usr/keylayout/AVRCP.kl -> ./AVRCP.kl
but it says to edit " 'TWL4030_Keypad.kl' and 'omap_twl4030keypad.kl' "with your text editor of choice; I used vi, always a safe choice.
I don't have the omap. what should I do?

Just modify the qwerty.kl in the place of omap. That's what I did and things are working fine.

I am on the stock 1.1 rooted and have mapped my volume buttons - I have tried the other ones, and I MUCH prefer having hard buttons.
I downloaded a volume app "Volume Master Free". It has about 5 different volume controls, but I only use the system volume and the media volume controls.
I use Zeam as home screen; and I put a shortcut to Volume Master on the bottom right of my Zeam shortcut bar. It works very well. I do need to go to the home screen to change volume; but I can tap on the notification bar and toggle mute, so that works for me.
Yes, it makes a huge difference on the stock rom and froyo -- though honeycomb's soft buttons eliminate the need to do so.
Can't recommend remapping the keys enough. On froyo it makes a huge difference in functionality on. The device, life is a pain without it.

I remapped.
I also recommend remapping your volume buttons. It's handy having tactile buttons for the back and menu functions.
What really sold me on remapping was that I didn't like to have a Softkeys button floating on the home screen. Without a floating button, I would have to double tap the hardware "N" button to bring up the Softkeys interface, then hit "menu" or "back." If I have to double tap a hardware button to use "menu" or "back," I might as well just remap those functions to the volume buttons and use a single tap.

can remapping the volume buttons be done when running cm7 nightlies off SD ?
I didn't find a definitive answer
I ran with the CM7 softkeys, Button Savior, remapped volume keys and I just finally settled on zMooth.

MIUI - Screen capture

Hi,
When I try to do a print screen using menu + volume down, the picture that is captured includes the "silence ringtone" window that pops up (relating to the pressing of the volume key). Can the display of volume be switched off?
Also, is there any way to select different key combinations? I am using a soft key for menu (Button Savior), and hitting that with the volume down key is more miss than hit - about 2 in 25 attempts!
BTW, I am using MIUI 1.8.5 ROM.
TIA
Elkay
I even cannot do screen shot by using Menu+Volume- buttons. Actually I want to know if there is a way to define sofkey in Button Savior.

I haven't been able to repeat a capture, but I have 2 screenshots as evidence it is possible.
I haven't found any way of defining a softkey in Button Savior.

[Q] use the "button remapper" 2 use the "G" key as camera button???

[Q] use the "button remapper" 2 use the "G" key as camera button???
can we use the button remapper to reassign the "G" key (it is useless in CM7) to work as a dedicated camera button???...just an idea though....i tried it myself, but the app was not identifying the "G" key. can any1 of you try it and post whether they succeed in this?...if so, how??
Button Remapper doesn't get the G key (key 95) because it isn't mapped in CM7. So it can't be remapped.
Get Root Explorer, go to system/user/keylayout and open querty.kl in text editor (mount r/w in Root Explorer and long-press the file). Add KEY 95 CAMERA
I believe it is. Save and reboot.

Yeah.. I did this and it worked (only to start the camera) but when you try to capture a picture, it doesn't.

Try this
key 95 CAMERA WAKE_DROPPED
It should launch the camera + take a picture. At least it did in NOVA. Hey in CM7 when you press to take a picture, it is taken with no preview for some seconds then. Just make sure in the little gallery button after pressing button

still, it only launches camera
but thanks anyway
i use it as the "power and wake" button
i don't have the original CM7 camera app on my cell. i deleted it as i found don't actually use it.
so, i added "key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED" as mentioned in the following comment and it worked!!! now i use it as my lock/wake key instead of the upper one as it more comfortable than the actual lock key

If I edit this file system/user/keylayout/querty.kl to add the G buttons and then use the button remapper? This work? I can't test it right now...
I can only lock the device, I can't unlock it...

think long press goes to S finder
Good work, but long press is menu, I use it all the time.

I used xposed additions module to remap it. Also mapped the volume keys, home and power buttons to change music, play/pause and activate torch respectively while I was at it.
