Thanks LG Revolution Developers but I'm leaving - LG Revolution

Thanks to all the developers out there, but due to this phone having issues especially with test mode, I am leaving the Revolution tonight in exchange for the Nexus S. Nexus S has alot more support and is way easier to develop for being a straight up Google phone. Again thanks to everyone for all the help

I think we are all going to gradually leave. LG left us, Verizon left us, so we have a few developers who still love us. So before I trade in my phone, I am sure I will have cm9
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium

REALLY? Well i still LOVE my Revo. so far the ONLY problem I have left is the test mode. Gingervolted it & it does everything I want it to & then some. Not happy the way Verizon cripples it but I am greatful to the developers who have done a GREAT job of cleaning the mess UP.

Test mode fix has been posted in the development forum. It's the last thread I made, please vote for it to be on front page to help 1,000+ other users with same issue.

[Q] should this subforum be closed???

hello everyone, I recently purchased a dell streak 7 and actually love it but have been disappointed in the lack of rom development for the device. it makes me feel like i purchased the device that nobody cares about. everyday i check the development section just to see the same post. there is never anything new so i was wondering why this sub-forum still open???? I dont think we really need a whole sub-forum just to see when dj steve releases an update for the same rom. One developer should not warrant a whole sub-forum. This makes me wish i would have hung on to my g-tab.

U can just as easily leave xda .... it takes time to pick up extra developers. Learn yourself and put out your own rom !!!
I've started on it myself..... I know a few others who have too.... learning takes time ! ALSO FYI, We already have 2 different froyo builds, 1 honeycomb build, and Ubuntu partially functioning. I've talked with 2 people who have already started trying their hand at gingerbread. Nothing official there yet though.
Most of us have jobs and families..... time isn't so abundant. If u have the time then do something about it and stop complaining
Donating to developers is also an incentive ........
PS
mods please move this where it belongs.
avoid Android - get an Apple device

I'm moving on from the Note One

i'm moving on to the T-mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
I got rid of my note 1 and picked up the Gnote 2.
I can keep on compiling gnote 1 releases of LiquidSmooth - but support will be limited and there might be bugs that i myself can no longer test.
(unless someone has a an extra one for some reason - but i will not accept nor ask for monetary donations to get another one. no need for anyone to go out of their way)
I will only blind release if the team allows me too (we don't like releasing for devices we don't actually own ourselves.)
Thank you everyone that showed support and love for a rom that brought life into a phone that was almost instantly abandoned by tmo. i hope i was able to aleviate some of you that felt cheated out of such a bad decision by tmo.
If anyone is willing to take over building and testing on their own device for quincytmo, then join us on freenode #liquids.
Thank you for your supports and great ROM
I really appreciates your respect.
I will missing you and will look forward to see you when I upgrade to note2.
Lol

That's it.. You were our last piece to they puzzle as far as stimulating development. Lol but its all good.. I'm probably better off sticking to one rom. I used to be a flashaholic with the gs2 and that kinda sucked. Well thanks for your work man.. You left us with a perfect rom (rc9) take care. I'll be over with the note2 hopefully in a couple of months

State of Development :)

For those of you that have been around these parts for a while, you may remember the State of Development updates that good ol' Gsleon3 used to update us with. These came for us at a time when development for the Vivid seemed to be at a standstill, and for those of you that were here, you remember why. For those of you who don't, let me catch you up a little (and I apologize for the bad feelings that this may drum up, but I don't want anything to get out of control again). So grab a beer and a snack, this may be a long one
It was about April, and development for the Holiday was still in its infancy. There were a few good ROMs being released, and generally, it was a good place to be. Then accusations of stealing other's work, accusations of corrupt moderators, and all around child-like behavior started, and it became the downfall of the Holiday forum at XDA. ROM threads started closing. Then came the bickering. Then the Devs left. Then the users began to play the blame game, and the "let me try to whine my way to what I want" game. All the best devs left and opened up shop in their own little corners of the internet (and I can't blame them one bit), and development for the device was no longer centralized. There were/are still AWESOME ROMs available for this device, just not on XDA. This always made me a little sad. As painful of a place as XDA (or any internet forum for that matter) can be at times, there's sooooo much good information crammed into one site that it has always been my one-stop shop, but that wasn't true any longer. I settled in, I found a home, but I kept a close eye on what else was happening across the interweb's Holiday community. I liked to keep my eye on one project specifically, synergy's CM10 project, because who wouldn't want JellyBean, right?
Now, a little more information for those of you who weren't around.. The original CM10 thread was opened at another site in July, where the project started. Syn put a lot of time and effort into it, but in the end, found it to be not worth his time to continue on a project he didn't see possible to ever be finished (mainly due to the ATT in-call mic issue and video issues), and again, who can blame him? He abandoned the project at the beginning of August. This is where mg picked the project up, and continued it with a few fixes himself, before somehow we caught the attention of h8rift. h8 has been awesome - cleaning up our trees, getting things in their proper home, and powering through anything that gets in his way It's so great to have him around.
Myself, up until October, had only ever had experience with things like making boot animations, icons, editing .xmls in .apks, and some slight .smali edits. Thanks to mg's excellent guide and a crapton of Googling, I learned out how to compile/build cm from source. Then I thought, "I wonder if I could do the same for other JB flavors?" So guess what? I tried, and it worked. Every single question I had along the way (with the exception of a few Ubuntu and git specific questions), were answered by a thread here at XDA. Cool, right?
I am very excited to see new ROMage out for this device...as I'm sure anyone who was here through the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012" would agree, I was pretty sure what we had was all we were ever going to see. Which again, would have been OK, cause there are some great ROMs out there, but I've never been the kind of dude to settle in on the same ROM for too long - that's why I came to XDA in the first place. Now as I'm sure everyone can see, through collaboration, this project is making HUGE progress! I cannot thank mg and h8 enough for keeping it going. This brings me to my last point...
I encourage everyone to participate, and offer suggestions, and share information - that is, after all, what a developer's forum should be about. The wealth of knowledge that's available at XDA is out of this world, but sometimes hiding deep within the threads, filled by off-topic chatter and users who have way to huge a sense of entitlement. Please always keep in mind that the things you're getting here are free. Hours upon hours upon hours of work go into these projects, just to be shared for very little asked in return. Wait, we ask for something in return? Yes - READ, SEARCH, and SEARCH AGAIN before posting. Like I said, there's already a wealth of knowledge here that's incomparable to other Android forums on the web, but yes, sometimes it can be trying to find that information. But it's not impossible. Also - keep an eye on the issues list. There are bugs. There will probably always be bugs. And as long as there are, they will continue to be squished to the best of our ability (though h8's ability is far beyond mine, so let's especially be nice to him )
In closing - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not let this place become what it was before. So far I feel like the atmosphere around here has been a lot better, but I know how easy it can be for it to slip back to where it was. So be respectful, don't ask for ETAs, and be thankful for what we have - cause what we now have is a TON more options that we had before.
I remember the "Great Holiday Wars of 2012"... it was ugly, didn't even want to visit the site half the time. But things are looking up and I'm glad I didn't return my vivid thirty days after the release date like so many did.

Well said homeslice. Although I haven't been as active in my participation I got the Vivid on day 1 and am really happy to see development where it is today. There were many points I thought the device was basically dead and time and time again it was revived with new life. Hopefully the few left can make sure not to repeat drama mistakes of the past.
And great job on going from a reader to a developer, very well done.
Why is my xda premium app only let me reply/post on certain sections of forums and not development??:banghead:

i think is not fair to close a wip thread to bring a sense 4 rom to the vivid all i wanted to do is help this device users to be on the latest software as i said in the post that was closed i wasn't going to share it to everybody i want it to share it to developers to bring this rom to all users but it got closed for "kanging" which i think is not true since venom team never released a vivid rom even thou the did for rezound which is pretty similar device but cdma and korean's make their work on the rom also to make the radio work which no body here in xda could do after many tries all i want is to help the community and specific this device owners which expect more from this device and we know is capable of running this system and much more please let the development continue we are stuck right know on sense only because someone doesn't want to share their work on other devices which is ok if you are the developer of something and you don't want to share but why stop someone who is trying to help on a device you haven't released a rom I bet that many of the vivid users would like to flash a sense 4.1 rom on their devices

Sorry but we don't approve of the use of our work by non-team members and do not condone the porting of any of our roms to other devices for various reasons. One of those reasons is these roms will never meet the same level of quality and support our users have become accustomed to as such, these roms will never be allowed on xda and will also be refused Venom Hub access.

That's exactly what I want but there is a language barrier, instead of releasing could you try to make it legit here with your team? Please I know there are really good developers and they can find how to make it legit is all I ask I do not want to make an issue out of trying to help others with this device, this device is capable of running this Rom flawless just like the one x or rezound which in fact is is the same device but cdma could you help us or assign this port to one of your team members?
Or if none of you has the vivid let a vivid developer take care of it please we have really good developers here to!!

Let's just drop it. The villec2 should get its jellybean sense+ update soon, and maybe we can port it. Or maybe we can get the Koreans to share their secret. In the meantime, it appears to be elsewhere, so get it there if you must

So, the options are:
1. We remove all of our tweaks from the framework files of a kanged port of one of our roms so that you can use it as a base
2. You find a Korean translator to ask the one who got data working how he did it.
Let's not start more xda drama the vivid forum has already been thru this. Either find someone who speaks Korean to ask to translate or have them remove all of their tweaks like they ask. The vivid has come to far now to start drama over a sense 4 ROM

Donations for newtoroot to develop for HTC Vivid

newtoroot is willing to develop for us if we donate a device to him. He said he we will get the same roms that he has made for the HTC Rezound (Sense4.1ICS, Sense4.5ICS, Sense4+JB), beginning with 4.1 and making his way through those roms.
I will be taking donations at the link below. As people donate, I will update this post accordingly to show every person that donates and how much they donate to make it as transparent as possible.
Once we have enough donations (hopefully within a week or two), I will go ahead and buy a HTC Vivid off of ebay (with help from you guys on choosing one) and send it to newtoroot.
Donations to date (1/8 morning): $48
htcvividnoob: $40
davebegue: $8
Interesting I'll see how much vivid's are going for on ebay.
I'm in for it let us know!!

I know people are working on getting a Sense 4.1 ICS 4.04 ROM for the HTC Holiday line, but out of curiosity would there be any interest in gathering donations and purchasing a HTC Vivid for newtoroot? He is willing to develop for us if we donate a device to him. It would be pretty awesome to have Sense 4+ with JB as an option. Trying to see how much interest there would be for this. I assume the prices of the Vivid have gone down significantly, but haven't tracked them recently.

There seems to be some interest from posting in our general thread. Would you prefer us to collect donations and purchase then send you the device? Or would you rather us gather donations and send them to you so that you can buy the HTC Vivid?

I can take care of handling donations and buying and sending him the device. I'm a little busy today but tomorrow I'll take a look at setting up my paypal account for donations and will post more details then. If someone wants to find one on ebay that looks like it's in good condition for a decent price in the meantime that would be great. I've seen some on craigslist for around $160 but from what I understand ebay is a safer route since there is some accountability in case of blacklisted ESN (swappa does not have any HTC Vivid's listed currently). Once we know roughly how much it will cost we can see how many people are interested so we can figure out how to split the bill.
I love to see jb sense 4 on vivid
Please, if someone can do this will be fantastic...:good::laugh:
why not just see if someone can port a sense 4 rom? we just have to ask the dev hell some even put they dont care if you use their rom we just have to port from the sensation

Devs of vivid tried to port it from various ways, but they failed. Even if sense 4 roms got ported from sensation to vivid, making RIL work would be so much difficult.
Speaking of sense 4, I heard that the developer of sense 4 rom, chun has suffered from too many request PMs. Some of them were even mistranslated to Korean with google translator. He was really annoyed. Anyway, he said that the release will come soon with Leedroid tweak and much stabilzed kernel. Please, if you want to see the first sense 4 rom for vivid, let's thinks that he has his life. It will come eventually.
p.s. : He is in his vacation. He said he is enjoying skiing.
p.p.s. : However, porting sense 4+ would be different story. It is now JB, and therefore, it needs so many different drivers, and modification of framework. Even if we port sense 4+ roms to our vivid, and make it booted, RIL would be broken again.
On the bottom line, there is a saying that 'the more, the better.' I also hope newtoroot comes to our vivid, and show us some light.

this is good. if he needs any help he can always ask us on here. it will be okay since we will not be using those tweaks
Posted an update in my first post on this thread. Donations open, let's see if we can make this happen this time around.
If no more donations come in within the next few days I'll be pulling the plug and returning the donation. So far only one person has shown actual interest.
Just wait for chun to be finished with his rom. get a dev to message him and ask to use his source and build a jellybean rom from it. shouldnt be that hard, if RIL is working, i cant see how updating it to jellybean will break it, it still uses the sense framework.
Donations closed and are being refunded. Hey at least it was given a shot.
Ah dammit
I just found this thread. The Vivid (well Velocity) is currently going for US$190 new here just now, branded to Telstra (so 850mhz 3g) but carrier unlocked. Is that any help?

Well considering that the total amount of donations (minus what I was going to put in) was $8, I kind of gave up on it. I'm not going to donate $180 myself (I was planning on stretching myself, but not thaaat much).
I think it would be epic to have newtoroot dev for this device. I don't think we'll get JB Sense (4+ or 5), at least not for a year plus. As cool as it is that WC is getting a 4.1 release ready, I'm not aware of any plans past that.

Sprint AOKP Rom coming soon?

Hey everyone, new to the Android scene. Switched to an HTC One from the iPhone 5, was wondering if there's an AOKP Rom coming out soon for the HTC One? Already unlocked my bootloader, rooted it, and flashed recovery with TWRP.
Really? Asking ETAs is the best way to make sure you don't ever see it over here. Since you're new I'll give you some advice. PLEASE, PLEASE read up on XDA rules and general postig ettiquite. The Devs aren't paid employees. These are people who do what they do in their spare time and put their hard work out there for us all to enjoy. Be patient, ROMs will come and in the mean time check out all the awesome work that has already been done in the 24 hours since this device was released and don't forget to hit the thanks button.

Yeah I understand, sorry for being rude. I'll know for next time, thanks.
Welcome to Android, I am pretty sure everything will be coming down the line, but it's still early, takes time to create solid builds with the least amount of bugs possible. Check in often, you will find what you need soon enough.

Didn't think you were rude and sorry if I came off a little rough, I was honestly just trying to give you the nice version before someone blew up on you. Everyone is new at some point. Relax and enjoy your new phone, with a device like this the custom ROMs will be rolling in very soon. Congrats on leaving your iPhone behind, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
Welcome to xda we're one big happy f#$&ing family here LOL
