USB OTG CABLE with ANDROID - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have this cable called USB OTG Cable .. used for connecting USB storage directly with phones .. it works great on my Nokia N8 .. but not working with my Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 ..
can any one help in this regards ...

wrong section...
do you have a kernel that supports OTG?
the i9000 isn't supporting OTG, you have to use a custom kernel.
but as far as i know it only works on ICS roms...
edit: just saw the pic. does it fit into your i9000? i've read that you have to use some sandpaper to make the nokia cable fit

I have Nokia cable (for N78) and it works. But the mini-USB port doesn't have two pin like samsung's one, so it's a bit too loose

Some ICS roms supports OTG from stock, have a look on the feature list. Otherwise use an other OTG kernel.
Can't confirm that THIS cable works, but i bought the samsung cable and it works

maybe you should take a look at this thread and post there.
there you will get your usbotg-kernel, if you are still searching. they are available for ics and gb at the moment...

Why don't ask sztupy on it's thread?

You can't connect USB directly to I9000, you must have external power supply like thread in #6, #7.

wrong threat ....

Buy a normal USB cable?!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

i9000 needs a kernel that support usb host, and last time i've read about it, does nor provide power throught usb, so you'll need a dual usb adaptor to get extrernal power.

Why isn't this thread deleted?

to me its quite sad tht our beloved i9000 doesnt support this ... a phone which was a milestone .. made records ... and became the flagship phone for samsung ... cannot be used for this purpose ? is it a software limitation or hardware ???
i mean does android not have this feature or the phone it self ???
i mean .. even my Nokia N8 supports this .. its runnng a Symbian OS and if talk abt hardware as well .. Processor , RAM etc etc its lower than our i9000 .. still N8 supports this .. when i connect my usb with this cable to it .. it instantly shows me the Mass Storage device in file manager ...
and why cant our SGS i9000 ... SAD

i mean when Nokia N8 doesnt need any extra power adapter or anything else for it ... then why does our phone ???

Because I9000's hardware not support power to external USB.

Does This Device Support Usb On The Go !?

Hi everybody.
i'm new in this forum. i have bought this cellphone.
i have a question
does this device support usb on the go ? if yes how ?
sorry for english cuz i'm iranian.
tnx u all
I've checked it by myself and It didn't work to me. So probably, no.
hmmm are u sure ?! xperia mini supports otg , then lg optimus black doesnt ?!
I have been asking the same question few times already but seems like no answer so far.
It needs to be supported by the chipset, and no info on that.
By any means please do share any findings.
It seems no one knows how to connect OTG to this device. anyway tnx all :|
There is always hope to be done via custom kernel, or the almighty ICS which is meant to support it on most devices.

It just info on the chipset which basically has all the possibilities of otg, video out etc.
Just needs to be implemented in the ROM one way or another
what we should do now to have otg on our phones ?
tell a rom cooker ?
what do we have to do now !? tell a rom cooker ?!
Not sure i have raised the question few times but no Clee so fat. Ifi an not mistaken there was a kernel for galaxy s to flash when want to use otg, but was a half solution.
Maybe speak with Knzo o Aprold ?
please do this yourself bro.
i don't have enough time and my english is not as good as u
I will. At the moment Aprold does not have much time around here. When he is back will ask him.

Say that again
'key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED' to TWL4030_Keypad.kl and also to qwerty.kl
Rings any bells?

What is the problem exactly..??
If you don't know to connect than here is a tutorial.. Or you have some other issue.
Also which ROM..??
connect your mobile to computer/laptop.. then there will be a notification telling you that you are connected to USB.
tap it and a new window will appear with android and a button to connect. click it and then click yes.
that's all.
your device is now connected to computer.

It doesn't support the Samsung USB-OTG cable, that's it.
You need to buy a different USB-OTG...
Use different OTG Cable, I had this problem too.

Any workaround then ?
OTG has to be supported by the kernel as much as the hardware. I really doubt the stock kernel supports it. You can try to load the kernel libraries from your linked post but there is no guarantee of a success.
