[Q] Help with gingervolt 2.0 - LG Revolution

Hello, I dont know where the help forums are for the lg revolution and it wont let me post for some odd reason so hopefully here, i can ask for help, and not get banned x3.
So im tring to flash gingervolt 2.0 and well, it's not working. Ive tried updating from gingervolt 1.3, adding the 2.1 version of blitzkrieg and a theme. But the problem here is. It just goes to the LG screen then turns off and vibrates again going to the same screen. When i get very lucky it boots into the boot animation and into the device. But some parts freeze if i try to do something and sometimes the boot animation freezes. If anyone knows about this problem or think they can help. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Also i don't want to use stock or gingervolt 1.3, i think 2.09 is so much faster so i'm not wanting to be recommended on another version or another Rom. Thanks.

Restore your back up and try re downloading and trying again

Start over from stock GB would be your best bet.

Yes i wiped data. I followed all of the directions. Also i dont like stock at all, are you saying i should try from that. I did that to.

I agree that going back to stock GB would probably be the best solution. Then just start over from scratch
i'm running gingervolt 1.3 and didnt even realize the was a 2.0 for it....lol....
could someone post a link? or point me in the right direction?
Much Appreciated

I didn't wipe data before flashing. But it's most likely better off to do it like Kane said and also starting from a Stock GB then flashing GV 2.0

Hi all,
I'm new here, and couldn't find any references to this specific problem, but this thread appears to be vaguely related. I'm GV 1.3 and just tired to update to 2.0. CWM makes it appear as though the update worked, but when I restart the phone, Settings --> About Phone still shows it's on GV 1.3. I tried the update twice; the first time, I chose "Reboot phone" from the CWM menu after installation, and the second time, I powered down. Same result both time.
Per the instructions, I did NOT wipe data, since I was already on GV 1.3.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks!

after reading previous posts I was suddenly curious why my revo said 1.3 when it should have said 2.0

Oh, that might explain a lot then. Other than the build number, is there any indication that I'm on 2.0 now? The animated startup graphic is the same as it was before.

If you can overclock without flashing the kernel then you're good. 1.3 didn't have the kernel implemented.

I wouldn't know how to overclock my phone if it smacked me in the face...
I was having some trouble with Bluetooth, so I went back to GV 1.3 and checked the build number. When that didn't help and I ended up having to factory reset my phone to get BT working again, I went back to GV 2.0 again, and noticed a different kernel build number. I guess that's one way to tell that I'm on 2.0. I can't tell any difference in how it works otherwise, though.

Battery problems
Has anyone else had any problems with the battery dying fast after switching to gingervolt 2.0? Since updating from gingervolt 1.3 to 2.0 my battery has been dying significantly faster (from 100% at 7:30am to 20% at 9:30pm with hardly any use and yes I have the extended battery). I am using rom toolbox and have the cpu set to Max: 1305Mhz and Min: 576Mhz with the governor set on smoothass (this was also set on 1.3 with no issues). My phone also will occasionally freeze and reboot at random times. I also noticed that it seems to lag when opening certain apps. Verizon tried to push an update to my phone which thankfully did not go through but i was able to go into the system files and change the system/lib/libme_main.so and change it to system/lib/libme_main.so.bak. That seemed to stop the update from trying to install. I also went to etc/security/otacerts.zip and added .bak to the end. Doing this accomplished nothing and now it wont allow me to remove the .bak from the end of the file. I love gingervolt 2.0 when it is working properly and hope I can get it to run smoothly. If anyone has any suggestions please share.

What sort of set up are you running there?
Stock, non-rooted N1? Or did you upgrade to FroYo over an existing install using Paul's zip? Any applications installed? When is the phone freezing?
Would love to help, but I think we're going to need a little bit more information from you first.

Previously rooted N1 back to stock rom prior installing froyo from Paul's direct install file for rooted N1 because I lacked stock recovery image.
Basic apps installed like ebuddy news apps etc. didn't install anything different from old install.
Like I mentioned phone stalls in while in sleep mode. Need to pull battery. Cannot soft or hard reset phone.
Ive been reading a lot on xda and didnt notice this occurring in pther phones thats y i decided to open a new thread.
Any help is appreciated thanks!

Did you wipe? If not, usually a wipe helps. I wiped and have not had a single issue of FC...Freezing or anything. I went from Enom to Wipe to Paul's Zip with Radio.
I have the same problem. Until now the screen stayed black after the other party ended the call. Had to pull battery 3 times.
Problem exists even after reflashing, wiping and clearing storage.
Im om pre-rooted frf50 from paul. Gonna try with an older radio..

does it work?
Im having similar issues with my 2.2 installation. I have it installed on my wife's non-rooted N1.
Not just that but the market is not even usable. Even if I clear cache.
Again, her phone is not rooted, I wipped everything from her phone then applied Froyo and its been a nightmare. Her phone isn't even stable enough to use and I cant seem to figure it out.
I need to find a way back to 2.1 without having to root her phone. She is adamant about me not doing that to her phone even though Ive rooted all the phones I've ever used with no issues.
I was having the same problem on my N1. Started suddenly two days after the manual upgrade to 2.2. The phone would either freeze to a black screen or sometimes the live wallpaper would continue but the phone was unresponsive even to the power button. Needed to pull the battery to restart.
It stopped after I:
* Turned off live wallpaper
* Uninstalled LauncherPro Beta
* Removed the Pure Calender Widget (was broken after 2.2 update anyway)
* Charged the battery (was down to below 10% when it started happening repeatedly).
Anyone one of them (or none of them) could have been the culprit. My guess it was one of the last two (PureCalender or battery) but haven't had time to troubleshoot it. Try some of these and see if it helps.
Ive tried all that on her phone. I just wiped it again completely and re flashed just in case that was the issue. Phone still had all the issues described in this thread.
I wiped the sd card, wiped all previous system files via the stock recovery and re flashed the update zip. You cant get anymore clean than that and its still so unstable the phone its unusable. I have to either hope soft booting works or pull the battery as a last ditch.
Is there any way I could downgrade her phone to 2.1 without rooting? I tried the shipping rom in the sticky above but it seems that isn't totally legit for stock use because the phone doesn't like how its signed.
I guess I could call google/htc tomorrow but who knows where that'll get me. The only bonus iud that her phone is not rooted so she didn't really have her warranty voided.

I was worried if I was the only one with this problem. Phone improved today (3rd day of using) but I didn't do anything to it. Only hanged once when someone called. Hanged on calling in screen and had to pull battery.

Yes until now it does. Sometimes the power button is reacting a little late but i havent had to pull the battery yet with the older radio.
You might want to download it again and flash that to see if you had a corrupt download. First copy all data from the sd and partition it. Just make everything fat. I havent used the stock recovery in ages so I cant recall if you can partition from there, if you cant, do it on the pc. Wipe everything that the stock recovery can wipe. Then try to flash your new download of the update. You can do this fairly quickly and its worth a try before you go through the process of reverting to 2.1.

Interesting, not that I'm complaining, but after a few days of using 2.2 it seems more stable now....? haven't had any freezes today...yet.

Zv4 to zv7 update discussion

I thought I might open this up since I didn't see it anywhere. Anyway, ill start with my side.
I was on revolt 1.5 (big thanks mtm) and had a haphazard way of getting to zv7. Anyway, I restored stock without wiping, both system and boot.img from thecubeds original factory band, started up fine. Then used revotoolkit to restore stock recovery, downloaded the update and updated sucessfully. I then rooted with the esteem method, free and clear, and restored, among other things, my apps with data that I backed up in ti. Everything was generally fine, with minor hiccups from restoring app data so just manually wiped data from problem apps one by one. After that, gingervolt had come out and I figured that if I flash it over my current setup, worse case scenario I go back and wipe data and install from scratch. But, as luck had it, after taking awhile to rebuild the dalvik cache, everything was fine and dandy.
So how did yours go? Any stories or experiences? Thought this would be good for general discussion and as insight for everyone.

yes tell all as I have heard going right from v4 to v7 was a no go.
You beat me to the punch...I was on Revolt 1.5 and loving it but I want GB. So I downgraded to the stock rooted nandroid backup found here. I went to settings> about phone> software update and...nothing. I tried a few times, I waited for awhile and nothing. I then flashed the z4 tot file, nothing, I updated the z6 file and rooted that and nothing (see a pattern?) I am currently running the Z6 rooted file.
Any help would be appriciated. By the way mtmichaelson you are the man.
I think we are all in the same boat Verizon hasn't uploaded the update to the servers we can download from for now I'm staying stock rooted with stock recovery until they push the update to me so that i can install it when it gets here basically the only thing we can do is wait

My impressions
I was patient and stuck with a CWM/rooted stock V4 ROM.
I uses MT's ROM stock and followed instructions and upgraded through OTA to GB without a hitch. I also erased the internal SD to remove any gremlins from past experimentation.
I used his root zip and it when without a hitch except for the CWM recovery not sticking after reboot.
I notice that the audio output is louder, not one single crash or forced close, faster 4G and GPS, and faster charging. I plan to wait to see how the custom ROMs perform before flashing it and hopefully the CWM issue will be resolved soon.
We all need to thank everyone who has made this possible!
Just curious, what part of the country are you guys in that can't get the update?
I can't get the update and I'm in central California.

As far as secrets, I cant think of many hidden things I did. A little more detailed though, I had revolt 1.5, backed up everything, and didnt wipe any data.
I went to cwr, made a nand backup, and without wiping anything went straight to flash thecubed's root nandroid rip with advanced restore, with the stock system.img and boot.img, and that booted fine.
Then in android, I used revotoolkit to flash the stock recovery, and I think its this step that at least partially 'allows' the update. I guess something where it checks what is installed to check if there's an update.
Then I got the update prompt for zv6, and it updated fine, although it wasnt rooted afterward. Shortly after, I got another update and it updated to zv7 and 2.3.4, still unrooted. Although my apps were still there, some had issues from remnants of data from froyo, like force closes. So I manually, selectively deleted data in 'manage apps' as I found problem apps.
Then I used the esteem root to root it, and after finding the working, updated one it went fine.
After that, gingervolt came out, and although it was warned to wipe data strenuously before switching, I figured that if I at least made a nandroid before flashing anything, then the worst case scenario if flashing gingervolt over stock gb turned out to fail, I could either wipe data anyway and reflash like normal, or by some crazy chance it'd work, and I just got lucky when it worked. It just took a good 5-7 minutes to boot I presume because it has to rebuild the dalvik cache (based on what/how many apps you have?) and here we are. I hope this explains more so others may have success stories.

It may have to do, like I put above, with putting stock recovery + boot + system.img from stock zv4. Try that if you can and report the results if it deems beneficial.

And I completely have to agree haha. After updating and rooting, I got instant gps lock, have yet to have any fc's or reboot besides the usual routines, and I know Ill have to post a ss to prove it but I was able to get consistent 20-30mbps down with a single 42mbps down speedtest on the speedtest.net app, when before even on a great day it would peak at 16mbps. Loving gingerbread, especially since (coming from a droid) its on a phone meant to handle gb. Afaik, gb's mem manager was more built for 512mb+ (correct me if Im wrong), although it manages everything so much better. As good as gb is on my OG droid, there are a good # of screen redraws lol.
I started from Revolt 1.5. I made a NAND banckup, then got rid of CWM with RevoToolKit. Flashed the v6 tot file with LGNPST, updated to GB OTA, then rooted with mt's script. All-in-all it was pretty painless. I didn't do a data/cache wipe until I went to put on Gingervolt.

Odd. On Halloween, in Cerritos, I reverted to stock and got immediate zv6 upgrade download without even going to settings. zv7 came automatically too.
The only thing I can think of is my phone has never been on vz6 before. Are the people who are having trouble ones who downgraded from zv6 to 4 and then rooted?

Sent from my LG-P925 using XDA App
I downloaded the file from Lg Server
Followed the guide on how to install a KDZ files (link posted above) thanks to adixtra
When the phone rebooted it when into a bootloop so i removed the battery put it back on and went into recovery (volume down + 3D button + power button) wipe data and factory restore
reboot the phone and now I have gingerbread
did a superoneclick root access to gain root
installed CWM again
added the APN's and did a titaniumBackup batch restore and now everything its working and with the nice features
working on a rom for the thrill to add windows FX and other things
Are you able to go back to stock froyo afterwards? All features work? 4G, gps, mms, etc. Also, will there be a need to go to stock and grab the OTA gingerbread update for the thrill when it is released? Thanks in advance.

Yes you can go back to froyo just by doing the exact method but selecting the KDZ file for froyo.
ALL the features works (this is the live official update LG is pushing to european handsets) i have tried everything on my thrill and its working. (As I said before I can't test 4g so you can go ahead and try) obviosly have to set the APN lists manually because you are flashing a debranded (optimus 3d) firmware instead of the AT&T
I suppose that AT&T will release the Official Thrill firmware in the first week of december but unitl then you can install this update risk free and have the advantage of running the new gingerbread roms without going into the hassle of flashing the baseband alone with an XP machine and all that hard work.
Anyone else has installed this on there Thrill besides me? someone in the US so can test the 4G?
I am thinking about doing it. But don't wanna get stuck because I am new to android and I am going to be getting a new phone thru warranty. I figured its perfect to try since i will be replacing this phone anyway, just wanted to make sure I could go back to stock first. Maybe I will try it tonight. I am currently running "Thrill Seeker" custom rom. Do I need to go to stock before doing this?
Edit: also, sorry if this is a stupid question, but does this come with 3D converter?

On my version of gb with 4g... bugs are have to use 3rd party dialer and the 4g works but not the signal bars just as others have reported. ill try to upload next day or two. You still have to flash kdz or baseband befire installing gb roms

You can use dpi changer for that.

I can confirm this is working on my ATT branded LG thrill.
Once i loaded the ROM it automatically restart the phone but stayed lg screen for long time,.I had to power+vol down+3d button to go to recovery mode and did factory reset ..working like charm.

Dear friends,
I tried to install by this method but did not continue the installation. There was a message "there is sufficient charge in the battery, recharge the device to continue", the battery has 80% load, it is normal that message appear?
This rom is for the LG Optimus 3D P-920. She will work on AT & T P-925?
There is no risk of brick the device?
I need install something before? (baseband, kernel, etc.)
I was at 72 when I started. Went fine.

Well, after flashing last night and spending some time using it, and getting some calls, so far so good.
Everything seems smoother overall, with less freezes. App compatibility seems better, and there is a definite difference in battery life.
Call quality and signal strength seem overall about the same, bit I thought it was pretty good before. Not quite as strong as my Atrix in bad areas, but not enough to bother me.
The only thing I haven't tried yet is 3g, or fauxG if you want to call it that. We have edge only at home. When I go back to work Monday I will be able to test that.

There is no need to install anything beforehand the KDZ file has everything needed although it is recommended that after flashing to do a factory reset through recovery. It is in deed for the p920 but it works as well for the p925 although some users report the signal drops a little for the 4g although it works. Everything else function pretty well and most important battery life is longer.

If you have CWM you can try this:
-Charge the battery to 100%
-reboot to recovery
-wipe battery stats
-retry to apply the KDZ file

[Q] Help me get my phone where it needs to be

I was wondering if someone could lay out some steps for me. I am not new to rooting android phones and flashing ROMs but I have only ever worked with Motorola devices. This is my first LG phone and it is currently 100% stock with the latest GB update (2.3.4). I would greatly appreciate it if someone could lay out the steps I need take to get Gingervolt. Please and thank you.

Rooted with cwm installed. I then just flash GingerVolt 1. 3 and anything else you want.

Yeah, if you're coming from Motorola phones, you'll find the Revo remarkably easy to customize. No more bootstrapping for you.
It's almost so easy, you'll worry you're doing something wrong just because it "should be" more difficult.
Join us on IRC if you find yourself needing any help or have any questions; there's almost always someone on there who can help you out (some of us don't ever sleep, I think). Info for that is in my sig.

Thanks for all the input guys and yes it did seem too easy. That's why I asked questions. Everything went smoothly though and I am now on Gingervolt. Couple of questions/comments about this phone though, first, maybe its coincidence but it seems like my 4g speeds are faster after flashing Gingervolt. When the phone was stock and stock rooted, I was only getting 10-11 Mbps download and 6-7 Mbps upload. Now I am getting high 20's download and high teens upload which is what I was expecting anyway. Also, have any of you noticed this phone rebooting on its own and sometimes just being powered off when you reach for it? I haven't seen the rebooting since getting Gingervolt going but twice this morning already I have gone to check it and the phone was just powered off...
Also, any recommendations on a wifi tethering program that works well with the revo?
Forgive my ignorance but what is IRC and how do I use/participate?
Thanks again everyone.

Personally, I'm not a fan of using the IRC webchat. If you plan on using it more than once or twice, it's worth the time to install an IRC app.
The most popular one for Windoze is mIRC. I'm on a Mac and use Colloquy, but there may be a better option out there, I haven't bothered to check. No idea what a good Linux client is, but Google knows all.

This phone is just not working out for me with all the reboots and random power off issues. I am missing too many calls, emails, and texts. I have arranged to return it but I want to un-rom and un-root it first. Please correct me if any of my steps are wrong to do that.
1. Boot into CWR
2. Wipe data
3. update the .zip of the original backup I made after rooting
4. run the unroot.bat from windows

Just restore first back up from right after you rooted. Then run the unroot.bat. Receive new phone

Disregard this comment. I just realized I don't do an advanced restore. DURRR.
Ok, so now I am back to stock, un-rooted GB (2.3.4). I know CWM is still installed and if I do a Factory data reset from Settings | Privacy it will get the phone stuck in a CWM boot loop. So my question is, to wipe all data, do I just do it from CWM?

B.o. 2.0 faq + q&a

I feel like the broken out 2.0 rom post has WAYYY too much posts about problems etc. I think if we could all put it in one post it would reduce the amount of spam.
So list some questions and answers and i'll update this thread
Q) My Revo overheats and has vibrates of deaths! What do I do?
A) Try flashing the blitz 3.0 beta. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25299893&postcount=353
Mine did the over heating thing and the vod (vibe of death). I flashed blitz 3.0 beta, and now no issues.
**Disregard the sig. Decided to take a break from my project to try out mt's work.

Can you give the link for blitz 3.0? And what's the difference? What exactly happens when you flash it?
Here is the post with Blitz 3.0 beta
Honestly, idk what the real differences are between the two. I DO know that it solved the vod for me.

Oh. I thought that was just 1.1 with overclocking haha. okay thanks :] wil update the thread!
Both my phone (updated from BO 1.1 without wiping data) and my wife's phone (newly rooted straight to BO 2.0 with wiping data) have errors when trying to open the google calendar app. Had issues with the gmail app too, but I was able to reinstall that from the market.
In case others have the same issue the calandar app isn't on the market, but I found the apk here (haven't tested it with my phone yet though).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667600
Edit: Uninstalling and restoring with Titanium Backup fixed the problem.
I had a problem with my clock, Callender, and calculator not working. There was also a problem with the ROM and it didn't De-bing anything. so I had to reflash my nandroid back up, only to discover I didn't have busybox installed. easy enough fix.
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda app-developers app
I also had a problem with constant force closing of a google apps process. Clearing the browser and gmail cache seemed to fix it.

I just got BO 2.0.1 installed last night and I was having this same problem. Both youtube and gmail crashed at reboot and when I tried to launch them, Play and Maps worked fine. I cleared Caches without any luck, but an uninstall and reinstall of the apps from Play seemed to fix it.
Last night the wifi tether was working fine once I set it to use the Optima S profile. But this morning turning it on reboots the phone.
Over all I like it so far. It's alot more responsive than GV1.3 that I was running before.
Is anyone else having music playing issues? For me it's super choppy, and when using play music it makes weird noises. I have it OC'd to 1.9ghz on 2.0.1 on the blitzkrieg 3 beta kernel. Thanks!

Calendar app not sync'ing
Hey all,
Searched the thread and still haven't found a solution that works for me.
1.) I started on BO1.1
2.) Flashed BO2.0 and encountered multiple FC errors so....
3.) used LGNPST to go to Z8
4.) OTA update to Z9
5.) Flashed BO2.0
Calendar app doesn't sync
I have tried wiping tha app cache, wiping cache and dalvik through CWM.
Any other suggestions? I've been thinking about using titanium to backup and restore w/o restoring the calendar app and see if it will automatically dl it.
Thanks in advance!
And Thanks to MT and all the others who had put in so much time and effort to make the REVO a usable phone!
Rip the Calender app from a previous back up and push it to your phone with adb. Should fix it. When I get a chance I will rip mine and post it.
If someone beats me to it, a flashable zip would be nice.

Hmm that'll have to wait till I get home but I'll give a shot tonight.
Thanks
Ok tried installing a clean calendar apk with root explorer and still no sync.
Is there a tutorial for pushing apk's with adb?
Constant VOD
I am also having constant VOD on my revo. I flashed BO 2.00 last night and only had 1 VOD. I used the phone today and had 5 VOD. I will try flashing the BO 2.01 patch and the blitz3 beta. I hope this will solve my problems.
One quick question about installing the patch. Do I have to do anything special with the patching or is it as simple as flashing 2.00?
I keep getting constant reboots and many VOD(usually only when its charging/plugged in.) This has been for me the least stable ROM. When it works its great, but lately it seems every time I pick it up its either rebooting or had just rebooted. I even completely wiped everything and started from scratch and it's still rebooting.

Same here for me!!! My phone now after several VODs wont even turn on. I think the battery has been discharded beyond the recharge point or my phone has a hardware failure from to much heat. Not sure. But looks like im going to buy a new phone.

It's the push command.
adb push calender.apk /system/app
adb reboot recovery
wipe dalvik and cache
reboot.
worked perfectly for my wife on her revo, and hers is the same as mine just no theme.
i keep getting constant reboots also, ive tried complety wiping and reflashing to no success, im on zv9 and tried BO 2.0 and 2.0.1 and Blitz 3.0 but nothing works and also most of my problems are when im on the charger also i don't know what to do????
I keep getting the vod's as well. So I Reflashed 2.0 again and it seems to have stopped. I like to use the go launcher ex, could that be the cause of it?
