I rooted my phone yesterday to try to get ubuntu on my webtop. Is there anyway that rooting has screwed up my battery at all? My phone is getting much hotter and the battery is draining much faster now.
Any help would be great.
I also had some battery issues after rooting. My phone got very hot and completely discharged the battery in three hours while sitting idle in my bag. I'm not sure what the culprit was, but a factory data reset seems to have fixed my issue.

I will try that and report back.
how much battery life do you get after rooting?
Interesting. I am rooted and have not seen any loss of battery life. Did you remove or freeze any apps?

Yes I did freeze apps. I factory reset last night and didn't freeze and the phone is doing better so far.
Same here, rooting seems to be affecting battery. All I did was uninstall the bloatware. Gonna see today how it goes. It was fine for a couple days and then just bombed.
Have you guys tried deleting the battery statistics??
I could be that there's something off with the way the usage is occuring through operation that way.
It might help.

I can't find the link right now, but the myth that deleting the battery statistics file improves battery life has been thoroughly debunked.

Send me the link, would love to see it.
The battery statistics, it worked on my RAZR by deleting them, so I would love to see where they 'de-bunked' it as personal experience for me says otherwise.
Got about a half hour more when I did this.

I'll have to reply to that, as the battery stats do not reset upon full charge, but only upon reset of the phone.
I actually don't turn my phone off very often, and have seen stats compile for days on end.
Or at least that was what was happening to my RAZR....
Interesting, though.

That's strange, my battery is inaccurate. When it arrives ate 17% it dies, when I start charging again it starts at 1%, then when arrive at 80% it appears at 100%
Something is really wrong, I dunno why.
I already tried wiping the battery stats (on recovery), but still the same thing.
Any help? Any app to fix it?
Thanks.

Purchase a new battery and test again.
That has worked for me.
It's the idea, going to do that, thanks

Maybe try wiping battery stats in cwm recovery and reflash the rom ur using I had this issue but mine used to die out at 7% or so after I did that haven't seen battery issues since then I'm on miui rom might work for u too. I think it happens if you flash new roms a lot at that time I was experimenting with all kinds of roms then stuck around with miui since I believe its the best
Hello everyone, yesterday i figured a big problem with the battery of my 3 Weeks note.
I'm so upset and its driving me crazy.
I screen captured this. Battery life became so short it hardly works for 10 hours maximum if i don't use it much. Thanks
might want to get rid of that any.do app or change the settings. .
No i don't think any do is the problem as i downloaded it about 2 Weeks ago, and the problem started just yesterday.
what settings do you think i should modify?
well maybe any do wasn't the problem 2 weeks ago.. but it is the problem now.. why ask if u aren't going to take advice?
do you have the original samsung batterie? or an cheap rebuilt one? I've made some bad experience with cheap chinese batteries...
Do you have the stock kernel? In some old versions of Abyss Kernel i had bad batterie lives...
Dear bambo i did take advice and deleted the app. I've formatted the device 30 minutes ago as well.
Still having the same problem.
Mr David its the phone's original battery made in Japan finished in China
I took a screen shot after the formatting. Its just getting worse.
Thanks for helping guys

Try badass battery monitor pro and see what may be keeping the phone awake, or waking it up often.
what graph?
I've had loads of batt drain problems, and found the batt stats app to be really misleading.
In nearly all cases a random app 'appeared' to be the culprit but further investigation yielded it as being some other app filling the system log (logcat). Try looking at something you installed more recently. Uninstall them one by one and check foe when the batt drain stops. That'll be your culprit I reckon.
The more complicated approach is to install something like catlog from Google Play and read through the system log and try to work it out that way. I used his approach to discover WidgetLocker was capping my juice even though AVG was being reported as the battery hog!

Go to market and install Better Battery Stats. It will give you all the wakelocks and the culprit apps and kernel that might be eating your battery and not allowing the device to go into deep sleep and conserve battery !
Thanks for helping guys, I formatted the phone yesterday.
I‘am afraid the battery has a hardware problem. I'll have to contact the store I think, thanks to ALLAH I have 1 year full warranty. But I've got 2 questions for you guys:
1- I charge the phone while sleeping, so it stays plugged about 4 hours after its fully charged. Does that shorten the battery ‘a life?
2- Does the Android get viruses? Cuz if its not a battery problem, it might be a virus though.

-1- No, dont worry about your batt if u plugged more.
-2- I dont know about virus, but what i know if u install crack apps its maybe a virus.
My screen is using all the battery and I'm not totally sure if this is JB but I do think I got more juice on ICS. Whatever the case, my settings are:
1. Simple wallpaper, mostly black
2. Brightness at 50%, auto-dim on
3. Smartaction: using music turns brightness down to absolute minimum
Result? Phone lasts about one day, but it last longer on ICS. The battery says about 75-85% of the juice has been used by the screen alone. How can this be? Time on is about 2-2.5 hours per day.
Anyone else? Any tips, ideas?

Can anyone else confirm if there is a battery life issue on JB? I have downloaded the udpate but not installed yet. The feedback I have been reading is very mixed from significantly shorter battery life to actual improvements after the update.

So far I've noticed great battery stats on ICS but many people complaining after JB. Hopefully there's some tweaks we can do to resolve it.

Well I'm on JB and have awesome battery life.
About 2 days and a half with 6 hours screen on and 1 or 2 hours GPS.
I froze a lot of apps, including google search (google now) wich for some people seems to be a battery drain app.
You're lucky ^^ I will steal your phone and leave mine :good:
OK I chatted with Moto, they said the first thing to do is reset the phone. I doubt if that will do much, but I've done it anyway, I'm charging so will report on this probably tomorrow.
Another tip I've read is to reset cache in the recovery menu, I haven't been able to access it in JB for some reason.
OK I can say that after resetting the phone to factory settings after the Jelly Bean update has helped a lot. Now I'm very happy.

My phone was bought in Germany and exported from there. So, EU ROM? The factory reset helped me a lot.
P.s. I notice that the testers at GSM arena achieve 7 hours internet use or 8 hours video use at 50% brightness. I want to achieve this! The best I've got is about 5 hours mixed screen use.

This is what has happend to me...the first couple of weeks afterward, it helped, a few weeks later...the battery life isn't so impressive.
Hi, I have had this phone for almost a week now and have noticed that battery life for me is shocking. I JUSSST about manage to get through a day and some days have to charge the phone a little half way through the day to make it last the extra mile. After the first few days of heavy usage I went back to my regular usage pattern but still the battery hasnt been good. I have posted many screenshots and posts in the 'battery life' & 'battery stats thread' in the ONE General section so check em out. I downloaded GSam battery monitor and found out that my phone has many wakelocks from 'wakelock mediaserver'...at one point I had almost 900 wakelocks from it :/ I tried everything to fix this but couldnt. Plus the phone in general would lose 1% battery every 50 seconds to a minute. I had to resort to a factory reset in the hope that it would fix the issue but that wasnt the case. At first the mediaserver wakelock was nowhere in sight and battery drain was ok compared to before, but then again its back to draining insanely fast and the mediaserver wakelocks are back. Anyone else have this problem? Or anyone else finding that their battery is draining quick?! Because if this persists then im gonna take it back to p4u later in the month and get a new one. Just want to know if this is only happening to me and if anyone has any solutions. Thanks

If you loose power so quickly on new phone you have two options - battery not good or you have too many things going on!!! I will bet it is the second option! Under too many consider all processes you have running on the device.... less job for processor(S), more battery live! All phones come with a lot of crap installed form the vendor(map, wheather, location services, etc...) I will recommend to kill(dissable/enable) all processes you do not need!!! Make a test, but get all important staff out of the phone, so you may need to factory reset if you kill something important. Do not worry, with fact. reset will be like new..... and all the crap already started So good luck
Found this in another device forum, but it could (possibly) help you with your wakelock problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1717237
I've never had the mediaserver wakelock (nor do I have the One yet), so don't know how well this will work. I suppose it's worth a try. If not, you might try Googling the mediaserver wakelock problem to try some other solutions. Seems to be a relatively common problem.
I'm guessing you're a heavy user!
What apps to you have installed? how many apps to you have?
My phone lasted 1 day and 9hrs on one charge with moderate internet use, txt messaging, phone calls - and that was without power saving mode enabled.

That is a very common issue with Kitkat on the ATT Note 3. Custom roms have helped it, but not much. I use to get about 2 days out of my phone. I switch batteries everyday now. I have the spare battery charging system.
So we can only wait for ether the bootloader to be unlocked or for ATT to fix it.
Unrooted and can only get 18-23 hours of charge after the Kit Kat update. Before I could do 2-3 days, easily!

A word to the wise, I wouldn't be mentioning KR around here. It is considered a taboo subject after what the creator did.
android core apps always used to show as the top battery culprit for me under 4.4.2 - the google search app with the cards ended up being the app i isolated for my issue and disabling it fixed my battery drain issue.
I have also read about a bug with the camera app - but I haven't consistently had that issue so I stopped restarting my phone after using the camera.
My battery life has also went down since the kitkat update. I am at 36% at 11hrs 39min and 3.5 hrs of screen time. That's not bad, but previously I would be around 50% around this time...
