Hi,
Just wondering if there is a ebook reader on the Android Marketplace? Currently I use Mobipocket and Ereader.com but there software doesn't seem to support Android, is there another program I can use to read books from these sites??
Aldiko has a great UI, handles formatting really good and the company just released a free version. FBReader is also good.
Thanks for that droid will have a look at them when my phone turns up tomorrow. I know tha mobipocket has protection on their books so I expect to not be able to read them but is there a way to conver these books so that Aldiko or FBReader can display them?
Aldiko uses .epub as its format, and you can convert to this using a prog called Calibre.
There's also Repligo Reader which I think uses .pdf
If you can convert to .pdf, there are a few readers and most have a view allowing WordWrapping or automatic alteration of lines length to fit the screen. Think I like Aldiko best as it has left to right swiping for reading instead of scrolling upwards, and also has a black on white and white on black mode changer. Well worth the money and the converter, plus lots of free .epub books available.
Dayzee xxx
+1 for Aldiko - lets you choose fonts, colours - and has a lookup facility (though not a dictionary -0.001).
Checkout Calibre for conversion to epub, as Dayzee says.
Also checkout "ProcessTextGroup" for "Amber LIT Converter" - will convert MS .Lit files to .html (but use care, as i recall - a confusing download).
i.e. Amber will convert .lit to .html
then Calibre will convert .html to .epub
- Amber will not read DRM protected files.
Best of all is WordPlayer v3. Its free and it can use TTS (text to speech) engine. I can put on my earphones and listen to my ebooks even during a car drive. I use TTS on my laptop since ages and thats much superior way of enjoing ebooks than using your eyes. But most amazing is that there is free polish (and other exotic languages) tts engine for android! WP3 uses epub format so use callibre with it...
Thanks guys will check all those out when my Hero arrives I also sent an email to Ereader.com and got a reply saying they are working on an Android version of there software so can't wait for that, unfortunetly they didn't give any release times/dates

[APP][1.1][Aug 28th] DCIM Helper: make your device DCIM compliant!
IMPORTANT: after an update, be sure to turn on the app, as Play Store turs it off!
Do you hate when iPhoto won't show the pictures you shot with your Android device, but it works fine with your friend's HTC Sense device? Why is that?!?
That's simply because Google's camera does not comply with the DCIM standard, used by every other Digital Camera in the world (HTC Sense does it!) and properly recognized by iPhoto.
With this app, your Android device will be able to comply and iPhoto will display and import your pictures.
FEATURES:
- Hassle free "Configure once and forget forever!"
- Works with any picture taking app, not just the stock Android Camera!
- "Automagic" background moving of newly taken shots into the proper folder. No need to open the app each time you connect to iPhoto.
- Fully DCIM compliant and fully Android MediaServer compliant (pictures will not vanish from the Gallery).
- If you don't feel like moving, you can select to copy the pictures (but don't forget to check your free space!)
- ON/OFF switch to quickly enable or disable the app.
- Supported picture format: JPG, JPEG, PNG.
- Supported movie format: 3GP, M4A, M4V, MOV.
- Supports Windows, Linux and Mac OS X hosts (don't worry about Thumbds.db, ._IMG0001.jpg files and so on!)
ADVANCED FEATURES (which require a once-in-a-lifetime donation):
- Multiple folder monitoring: if you use Third Party apps (Camera MS, ICS Camera, ...) you can move/copy their pictures as well! Just add their folder to the monitored list.
For more information about the DCIM standard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_...ra_File_system

As a high school student we do a lot of class reading, and I like to do it on my nook, it keeps me organized, and I don't need to carry around a pencil and a pad of post-it's when I need to take a few notes. However, once we start working with the text I find it to be a lot of trouble to try and read through my annotations on the actual nook due to the slowness of the e-ink. What I am looking for is an app like Google Play books which sync the annotations to a readable document, KO Reader with it's Evernote integration is the closest thing I found but unfortunately it doesn't really support actual annotations, just highlighting, and while that is mostly fine for my workflow my teacher likes to see actual annotations and not just highlights (Sigh) I also tried to install Pico open GAPPS (Arm, 4.4) for google play books as I think that app would be as good as I can get and my nook is rooted so it should be possible but I couldn't get it to flash with flash-fire
Requirements for the app:
-Page turn animations can be turned off (They make me motion sick on E-Ink)
-Turnable pages with volume keys, left/right arrow, or some other combination (I can remap the keys since my nook is rooted)
- fairly Light on system resources
-Good annotation support
-Annotation can be synced to a web service natively or exported to a readable text file I can then sync with something dropbox app
