As with every storage media you can actually partition the mSD. By default it ships as a single partition that is FAT32 formatted (otherwise Microsoft couldn't play Mafia and press license fees out of Android phone manufacturers as the FAT file format is copyrighted by Microsoft).

You can partition the mSD in either ClockworkMod recovery or you can turn off your phone, take the mSD out of the phone and put it into a card reader and then partition the card on your computer by i.e. EASEUS Partition Manager (Windows) or gparted (Linux).

I don't know how you usually check if your hoe is working (oh how I love typos), but you can check if the SD card partitions are working this way:
- Boot the phone
- Once it's booted up and you have no warning about the SD card then the partition mounted at /mnt/sdcard works. To check if /mnt/sd-ext is also working either open the "Terminal", type "su" (without the quotes) followed by "mount" which will return all currently mounted devices.

If you create a sd-ext partition (USE SEARCH to know what this means!) you can move your apps out of the internal phone memory onto the sdcard (this actually even works without a designated sd-ext partition). However, you can't move each and every app to the SD ... apps coming with widgets, apps that start automatically upon boot, a widget or a live wallpaper can't be moved to the SD as it will stop working.
Swap on the SD (to have virtual memory - much like the "pagefile.sys" of Windows or the swap partition of Linux) only decreases the lifespan of your SD most likely considerably when there's a whole lotta swapping going on - apart from needing a custom kernel as the Stock doesn't support swap.

A Class 4 mSD isn't blazing fast, but it should be about sufficient. In general, the higher the number of the Class, the faster the card, the more fluid the I/O transfers.

Look into the "Advanced settings" menu - and note that not each version of CWM contains that functionality. CWM 4.0.1.5 that is in some thread around here does not have the partitioning capabilities, CWM 3.2.0.0 (as shipped with GingerDX) is able to perform it, CWM 5.x.x.x as in nAa's or Alfs' custom kernel is up to your for checking out.

???Dude???

Depends on what you want to do ...
- swap and a normal data partition
Create a ~256-512MB swap partition
Partition the rest as a FAT32 partition
- sd-ext and a normal data partition
Create a ~1GB ext3 or ext4 PRIMARY partition and name it "sd-ext" (w/o quotes)
Partition the rest as a FAT32 partition

And ... this information could also be found by using the Forum search!

[TUT]How to partition your SD card

Since I've read much about this in different threads (people who couldn't find out how to do it), I thought I could share some light on it in a separate thread...
For starters: DO NOT PARTITION YOUR SD CARD WITH ROM MANAGER!!! This will partition your internal memory, and will brick your phone... To get back to stock please follow this thread.
Okay... First off to the linux users out there. There already exists a very nice tutorial on how to partition a SD card in ubuntu(the steps will be very similar in other distros too). For the ones that want to use gParted, theres an live cd here.
For myself, and all the other windows users, read on
1. Get yourself a copy of "Paragon Hard Disk Manager".
2. Install it through it's instructions.
3. Mount your SD card to your computer, and make sure it's recognized.
4a. Probably the fastest way: Go to "my computer", right click on your SD card, click format, choose FAT32 and format your card.
4b. Launch PHDM, and select "format partition", choose your SD card (next), choose FAT32 (next), "Yes, apply" (next) and your card is beeing formated to FAT 32.
Now your going to make the ext2/3/4 partition.
5. Go back to the main menu of PHDM again.
6. Click "create partition", choose your SD card (next), make the new partition size (I picked 1GB for my ext) and pick ext2/3/4 (next), "Yes, apply..."(next) and your card is partitioned and formated to ext2/3/4.
Good luck
Or if you're like me and have a previous phone with Amon_Ra's recovery. Put the SD card that you're using in the Vibrant into the G1 and load into the Recovery and "partition sd card" and all you'll have to do is set up the size of the partitions. It'll take less than a minute to do this. Far more easier and im sure a lot of people from the Vibrant community were upgraders from the G1.
And partitioning your SD card does what exactly?

Allows you to use the data/cache to SD mod to speed up some stuff on the phone. For most of us, it has nearly eliminated the lag.

i tried this and its not as easy as you state. The instructions aren't clear either. I have blank CDs, added the file but it also says download something else which wasn't there. Whe you try to open the app from the cd, it doesn't know which program to choose to open it.
Ubuntu comes with a disk utility that is really easy to use.

You do know you have to burn it as a CD IMAGE not as a file, right? If you're on Windows, Infrarecord is free and works well. Linux and OSX come with software that can do it. Then you boot from the CD, there isn't a need to open an app, it should launch itself once booted. Then select the SD card and partition. It even formats the partitions for you.
It's not as easy as some, but it's a whole lot easier than fdisk. Free software is generally not going to be as "pretty" as paid stuff. If you want the pretty, pay for Partition Magic, Paragon, whatever, there's a few options out there.
+1 for gparted boot cd

Paid version (Thx Utorrent), but so just to clarify, so do I go straight from Fat32--> to Ext4 option? Or do I have to choose ext2, then create another partition (ext3), then ext4?

i spent the better of the night trying to format my card. sandisk 16gb class 2.
i fire up PHDM after formatting the card through my computer. i keep getting an error message when i go through the create partition wizard saying that my external sd card has four different partitions including an extended one, which doesnt make sense because i just formatted it. ill attach a picture when i wake up.
i then tried to use paragon partition manager. my sd card shows up. yay. i proceed to create two primary partitions: 13.6gb fat32 and 1.5gb ext3. everything goes good. now, when i unmount my sd card, the phone then says that the external sd card is corrupted and that i need to reformat. reformatting takes me back to square one. 14.8gb fat32. i tried letting the phone format the memory card and then use ppm to do just a 1.5gb ext3 and success. it worked. i installed deodexed rom and saw that my boot time was 2-3 min as compared to the general 10-12 min i was reading about. downloaded quadrant and registered a beautiful 897. i also went to go put back all my files onto my memory card and it asks me to reformat the card. square one again.
last resort i used gparted. tried using 13.6gb fat32 and 1.5gb ext3 and gparted gives me an error saying it cannot complete it. i dont remember exactly the error because im not too familiar with linux.
if anyone has any ideas or alternatives that ive missed, please chime in.
EDIT: i tried using two different memory cards and they didnt work as well. there has to be something im either missing or doing wrong. =(
Can't believe none of you guys have a previous Android phone with Amon_Ra installed. It practically makes partitoning a SD card a joke.
Fellow rookie to rookie step by step guide
This is my first Android phone and really my first experience with “programming.” I am using a Windows 7 PC, a rooted phone and a 16GB class 2 external SD card. Here is my step by step guide to partition your external SD card (That is the one that has/had Avatar on it) using free software:
1. Download and install the ISO recorder from alex fineman. Just Google “alex fineman iso recorder.” If you don’t have his program you will not be able to burn ”gparted live” as an image to a CD which is the next step
2. Google “gparted live” and select the sourceforge site. Next select “To install GParted Live on CD, download the .iso file and burn it as an image to a CD.”
3. I tried the most recent stable version but it would not load so I ended up using the most recent “Testing release” which worked on my Windows 7 PC
4. Download the gparted-live-0.6.2-2.zip which will now have an ISO extension since you downloaded and installed the ISO recorder in step 1
5. Open the gparted-live and follow instructions to burn a disc image
6. Connect you phone and enable USB mass storage (I used my work BB rather than the Vibrant in case I messed things up. Others have recommended an old phone)
7. Start your PC with the gparted-live disc in and get ready to hit the “esc” key to get into boot up. Select “boot from cd”, “gparted live default setting”, “don’t touch keymap”, 33 (for English), and “0”. You should now get the gparted-live interface and there should be two devices connected. Your PC and the phone with its external SD card
8. Delete the existing SD card partitions but make double sure you are on the phone and not your PC before you do this. Next, create the primary, fat 32 partition and leave no more than 2 GB of space for the next partition. Create a primary, ext3 partition and select accept to create the new partitions. That is it. Exit gparted and reboot your computer without the disc
I did the repartitioning so I could apply the custom ROM from anomalous3 over in the development section. I would highly recommend his ROM as a next step in your development as the phone is incredibly fast after installing it. As I said, I am a 100% rookie but the phone is now blazing fast (over 1,400 from low 800 on Quadrant. I really have no idea what it means but the difference is fantastic). Best of luck to my fellow rookies/noobs/nbs/newbies

[Q] Swap Area / EXT2 partitions - Help needed.

Hello, I'm hoping someone can answer a few questions I have regarding the format of the SD Card for the Android system. - Apologies if this has already been explained on this forum, I did a search but didn't find anything too useful that answered my questions.
(I have knowledge of the linux file-system and swap drives, just unsure of the benifits of this for android).
Currently using a 16GB SanDisk Class4 SD Card.
I'm aware that you can format the SD Card to use as a swap-drive and for use of ext2 file-system.
While searching for info on this I found the following xda link which simply explains how to do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
My questions are:
1. What are the benifits of having the ext2 file-system? (Would apps stored on SD Card run faster etc?)
2. Do I need to keep a FAT32 partition (as opposed to just having a swap and ext2 partitions without any FAT partition).
3. Does the swap drive greatly improve performance. And is this worth doing on a Class4 SD Card?
Thanks in advance!
Hi.
at the first I must say swat will decrease SD card life.
i recommond you to create EXT3 or EXT4 partition.
1)one of the benefit of EXT partition is your phone storage will not full and its help your phone performance.
2)yes.of course you should have fat32 partition for eg:music-movies...and other files.
3)yes.swap is a very good.and it helps your phone ram.eg:when you play plants vs zombie at the first screen game will exit because of ram and swap will use like ram and its good for gaming.
Thanks for the reply, much apprecaited.
Are you sure I need a FAT32 partition though? Videos, music etc etc can all be saved to ext2/3/4 on a linux OS so I just assumed I could just do away with FAT32 all together?
Is the following just not the same as using an App2SD app?
"1)one of the benefit of EXT partition is your phone storage will not full and its help your phone performance."
Sorry for being a bit fussy but I'd like to fully understand what the Ext/2/3/4 partition is actually used for. Is it just used purely for storage?
Thanks again!
In a short summary (and assuming you are using a Kernel and ROM supporting the features) ...
- "Swap" on a swap partition has its own own "filesystem". The data structures are actually created by "mkswap" and the partition is not directly accessible by the user. If your phone runs low on physical memory unused parts of the memory will be swapped out into the virtual memory to make room for other apps.
Note that this is no "magically increase your RAM" solution. Once swapping occurs it actually slows down the system as the swapped out memory regions need to be copied back into physical memory, sooner or later. It may only help to run "RAM hungry" applications.
- "SD-Ext" is a, most likely, ext2 formatted partition to where Apps you move to the SD (either by Android or App2SD) will go. This increases the amount of apps you can possibly install, but doesn't resolve the problem that apps having widgets or apps that are started during Android boot-up need to reside in the internal phone memory.
- The /sdcard partition where all your user data is being stored should be kept FAT32 (for the simple reason of making a backup of your data by slapping the card into card reader easier - Windows can't read Linux filesystems by default). Some ROMs will allow you to format /sdcard ext3 or ext4 ... the advantage is that ext3/4 (if the mount options are correctly set) may perform a lot better than FAT32, though your mileage may vary.
Roger? ...or do is something still unclear?
Many thanks B.Jay - I'll hit the thanks button after I post this reply! You cleared up all my questions, but just going back to the FAT32 partition;
I use linux as my main OS, so accessing the EXT format partition wouldn't be a problem; Do you know if all ROMs would work without a FAT32 partition and replace it with EXT2/3/4 partition? If you're unsure I can always find out by formatting and loading a rom.
Thanks again, you've been most helpful!

Linux would, of course, be able to mount a ext partition (even on a SD card put into a card reader).
As for the ROM ... it depends.
The Stock Kernel Modules AddOn of GingerDX introduces ext3 and ext4 modules for the SEMC Stock Kernel, so in theory (I didn't test it!) you should be able to access /sdcard when being formatted ext3/4 - though it could be that you might need to adjust the vold script to properly mount the partition. The modules are mainly for supporting the sd-ext partition for "Apps-to-ext3/4-partition-on-mSD".
There's also alfsamsung's Alfs Kernel which is compatible with GingerDX and some other ROMs. That would be something you could try as well.
Simply look through the ROM threads ... I think MiniCM7 (+nAa's Kernel) should be able to support it, though this could involve some tinkering.
Personally speaking, I only have a ~2GB sd-ext on the SD in my X8 and the rest is a normal FAT32 partition (/sdcard).
yes you need a FAT32 partition.
when you partition your SD card you can move moveable app and games to ext partition.
please dont move app wich they cant move to ext partition.
cause after restart app that you moved to ext will corrupted.
good luck.
Thanks again! I think I'll follow your trend and try the 2GB SD-ext and the rest FAT32.
sd-ext missing!!
hey guys!! I've a small prob, would appreciate some tips. I normally move apps to sd card, if the app is movable by default. if the app is not movable by default, i use this app2sd by droidsail (available in the market) which force moves parts of the app 2 sd card. When I make back ups using xrecovery, i have no problem.
but when I use cwm for back ups, it gives an error saying sd-ext not found and it skips that part of the back up!! so any app I've moved by default or forced moved to sd card doesn't get backed up!! So I presume I have to create a sd-ext partition manually? How do I do it? I do have an sd-ext folder. but its not in sd card. it's in the root. (never had this prob with xrecovery though)
thanks in advance!!

[Q] Proper App2SD guide please...

Im using custom roms for a while now (on GDX26 now). i just move apps to sd, havent done any partitioning and things. so can someone give me a proper noobs guide to app2sd and tell me whats about this sd partitioning and file systems and stuff?
anybody??? :/
Check if your recovery has a Partition option, this is the easiest way to do it. If yes, you only need to give the size that you desire for the partitions. WARNING: all your SD data will be deleted.
If no, you need to use a PC Program, like minitool partition wizard, to create the EXT partition. It's easy: shrink the fat32 partition and create the EXT partition using the left space. The format must be EXT4.
Hopefully, your phone will recognize the EXT partition and will mount it

Thanks guys
but can you tell me whats the difference between native app2sd on 2.3 and app2sd with sd partitioning?
oh and whats this swap? its some sort of virtual ram right? do i need it and how do i make it?
Native app2sd doesn't move all the app to the SD (and not all the apps can be moved). Using EXT partition all the apps can be moved totally, so the use of internal memory is minimal.
SWAP, yes, it's virtual ram. I don't recommend you its use, because the SD's life is dramatically reduced.
If you wish to test it, you need to make another partition (formatted as SWAP), either from the Recovery or using a pc program.

If you are using mini tool partition wizard, just delete the partition and create it back.

I successfully installed Simplicity 3.5 SG2 Edition.
I wanted to use Link2Sd and followed the script from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082465
Anyway, could follow every part of this script, but when I want to apply the data2ext script i can't proceede, because when I made a backup in CWM, it sais that "No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext"
That is strange, because when I used Link2SD before it was successful when i chose ext2 as extential partition. There was no error-message.
So I in the prescription of the script use of Cronmod or Data2ext, the option in CWM where i can choose "mount and storage" --> there are only options for format "/data or /sdcard or /system or /cache" but no option "Format /data /sd-ext"
So how do I proceed?
Any solutions? Did i do something wrong?
I followed all steps of the threat mentioned above.

Sorry that I have to bother again.
But I partitioned the SD card under CWM and chose 2048mb as the size for the extention (anyway in CWM there is no option to chose how the extention would be named or if it should be a sd-ext or sdext2)
Anyway, it seems like link2sd is artifically putting my programs to the 2nd partition or to the sd (app2sd) <-- the program is not installed, how it is possible (I use simplicity 3.5 sg2 edition).
And the internal memory keeps rising, so I think link2sd is not really working, because the partition is not right.
Simplicity after a clean install has about 45 mb internal memory used.
Right now I installed some programs and it has bout 84 mb internal memory used.
May someone help me, so the script will work.
I haven't used the cronmod script, because the option is not given in CWM.
The description is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2082465
But in another post they recommended "amonRA" to partition the sd.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703251
So can someone explain a method which will give the SD the right extention and later on I can apply the cronmod script and help that my internal memory is not rising.
Thanks

Try this method :
1. Download and install mini tool partition wizard on your pc/laptop.
2. Take out sd card from your phone and connect it to pc/laptop using card reader/adapter.
3. Backup your file from sd card to pc/laptop (just to be safe if anything goes wrong).
4. Open mini tool partition wizard.
5. Format your sdcard to FAT32.
6. Create 2nd partition with EXT3 format and set it as primary (2nd partition's size is up to you, 1GB is enough).
7. Apply changes.
8. Put back sd card into phone.
9. Install Link2sd and open it.
10. It will ask something like what format you wanna create to mount script, so choose EXT3.
11. Reboot your phone.
12. Done.
*Note : For step 6 & 10 it depend on which type ROM you are using. If you are using STOCK rom, choose FAT32. If you are using CUSTOM rom, choose EXT3.

U got two options for internal memory [another one using both-->but i nvr tried that] sorry
1st option link2sd and this will work on every rom :good:
use this steps==> 1.create 2 partition on ur sd card , 1st one should b fat32/fat and 2ed one Ext2 or Ext 3 [select 1024mb if ur using cwm and 8gb or more sd card] ,using mani partition tool
2.download link2sd and open, will prompt a mount warning if u create partition corect [will be sdext2 not sd-ext] and select ur file system ext2 or 3 and reboot deice :good: done
3.open link2sd and select instalation preference to internal[for automatic link, work on most apps but rare on games-u hav to link manulay on that situation]
4.use multiselect and link all existing apps to 2ed partition, even if that in sd card , U MUST LINK EVERY APPS OR GAMES TO 2ED PARTITION note that
5.if u done everything right u must hav atleat 150+mb internal memory [ am using it and hav 140mb internal with 100 apps/games]
2ed option is Cronmod / Data2sdext
advantage is it will move everything to 2ed partition[means more internal memory] ,and disadvantage is litle bit lagg if ur sd card is not good

Thank you very much.
I will try this option as you told me. I actually partitioned my card with CWM before, but it seems like that my CWM was out-dated.
Anyway, I have an 16 GB internal memory, is it also possible and good that I choose 2gb? I should use minitool wizard instead od CWM? As far as I could see it is not possible in CWM to decide what partition the CWM will make, so of course I can select 1024mb or more (and then 0M), but i can't select if it will be ext2 or ext3. And that is maybe my problem.
Because I partitioned the card through CWM before, selected 2048MB, 0M and everything worked. When I opened Link2SD i got asked the question and chose ext3, everything worked. Rebooted.
And after that transfered those files which should be on 2nd partition to there. Some other files were automatically put on SD-card after installation (due to app2sd). And here is my question, how can they be put there, if I didn't install app2sd on my phone? Was this app integrated into the Custom Rom "Simplicity v3.5 sg2"?
Ok the only problem what I didn't do was that I didn't change the installation preferences to internal memory.
But I would like to know? So it is not possible to have some programs on 2nd partition and others on the SD card? Because I heard the 2nd partition might be used as method to let programs run faster which used to be in internal memory of the phone and other programs, like apps can be installed on the sd-card, so they would be stored there and still can be runned.
So you suggest that I just put all apps and games on the 2nd partition, right?

I prefer mini tool partition wizard [bcoz u can select Ext2 or 3 or 4] ,cwm partition default by ext3[i guess] ... for a 16gb u can choose 2gb :good:
i dont think so ,Simplicity v3.5 sg2 not integrate app2sd by default..if ur using link2sd remove app2sd and proceed the steps i said earlier
then about choose location..i recommend 2ed partition for all USER INSTALLED APPS/GAMES bcoz it will not interupt usb conection remember if app/games not link automatically ,u must link it manualy :good: u are done

[MOD] Mount External SD Card as /data for MORE SPACE

THIS MOD IS FOR THE METROPCS VARIANTS ONLY!!!!
Most of you reading this will know me from my AdvancedStock ROM. Well This new mod I created will allow you to mount an External Partition on the external SD Card as the /data partition on the phone allowing for as much space as you want on the phone for all apps, user data, pretty much everything. This mod replaces the usual /data mount point so that the SD Card can take over. It is a little complicated to explain but here goes:
Partition: A specific area of the drive.
Mount Point: Where the Partition is mounted during or after boot.
NAND: Internal Storage
SD Card: Your EXTERNAL SD Card. (Not INTERNAL)
Your phone has whats called partitions on its internal NAND storage device (mmcblk0). This storage device holds the OS, User data, etc. This NAND is what is changed when flashing ROMs, Wiping data, etc. Your phone also has what is call mount points. Mount points, for all intents and purposes, is a sort of folder on the NAND storage that can mount these partitions so your phone boots up, can download things, run apps, etc. This mod changes the /data mount point (Where all USERDATA is stored, like apps, app data, settings, wifi, etc.) to the SD Card(mmcblk1). Doing this mod, you will have 2 partitions on the SD Card, mmcblk1p1 and mmcblk1p2. This mod, in order to be used, requires that the SD Card have TWO(2) partitions. mmcblk1p1(fat32), & mmcblk1p2(ext4). This new kernel will use the mmcblk1p2 partition to store the USERDATA by replacing the mount point that was originally mmcblk0p2 (Or something to that affect). This is done by unpacking the kernel modifing the fstab(File with a list of mount points and partitions).
So at the end of formatting the SD Card the partition table should look something (does NOT need to be exact
----------------------------------------------
| FAT32(500MB) | EXT4(28GB) |
----------------------------------------------
PARTITION 1 | PARTITION 2
mmcblk1p1 | mmcblk1p2
I hope this explination helps everyone under stand exactly what this does. This is not a apps2sd mod, this is a DATA2SD mod. ALL user data, not just apps, will be stored on the SD Card.

Need to Factory Reset (Post MODDED KERNEL install): https://www.mediafire.com/?qaxcyhxusfc1f2u (Flash in TWRP, Not tested)
Download for latest Firmware(1.23.155.0.3): https://www.mediafire.com/?0po4jm2a6k8rx7u
Warnings:
You always run the risk of bricking a device when using non-oem firmware.
Although I have tested this extensively (And currently using it as my Daily Driver) expect bugs.
Under Settings -> Storage you will see "Unavailable/8.00GB" This is fine and can be ignored.
This can cause a bootloop if not used properly. and can Soft-Brick your device.
This process requires the phone to act AS IF it was factory data reset. But it was not. You will need to re-download all your apps, configure the phone again as if you did a factory data reset. This is required because of the new kernel. If you want to revert back to before, just flash the boot from the backup you will be making in the install steps.
Notes before installing:
1. The external data partition MUST be Partition 2 no if ands or buts!
2. This **MAY** cause some lag on the device if the SD Card is class 4 and lower, or if the SD Card is old.
3. The partition SIZES do not matter as long as there are two partitions as explained in the instructions.
4. The Wipe data function in TWRP will STILL BE MAPPED TO THE INTERNAL DATA NOT THE NEW EXTERNAL ONE SO DO NOT WIPE DATA OR FACTORY RESET WILL USING THIS KERNEL OR YOU WILL LOSE THE DATA FROM BEFORE THE KERNEL WAS FLASHED.
Install:
You need TWRP installed, so go to xda forums and install it.
Then boot into TWRP.
Select Backup.
Select Storage Device
Select Micro SD
Select All options and click "Backup"
Wait until it is done.
plug your phone in and in Windows/Linux/Mac go to your phone in a file manager then Phone\TWRP\BACKUPS\<SOME_RANDOM_NUMBERS\todays date and copy everything out of there.
Put htc626s_extData.img on the INTERNAL SD CARD.
Reboot into android and Install AParted
Open it and press the green plus button twice.
For Partition 1: Make sure the file system is fat32, this is important!!!! (Size it how you like) This is required so Android does not bug you about an unsupported filesystem.
For Partition 2: Make the file system ext4(Size it how you like)
Hit "Apply Changes"
Wait and then reboot back into TWRP.
Go to Install -> Then in the bottom right select "Install Image" and browse to the htc626s_extData.img file you downloaded and put on the internal SD Card.
Select "Boot" and install.
wait a second.
then click Reboot System.
First boot up time will be long, but after that it will boot up like a new phone!!! Dont worry, your data is still on the OLD data partition, the phone just does not have access to it.
Enjoy and profit from the new space.
Any question let me know here, PM, or whatever.
Hi, thanks for all the hard work your putting into this phone. I want to try the mod but I already use link2sd (Free version) and link some of my apps to the sd card. So I already have an ext2 partition on my sd card. Can I just flash the kernel and it boots with the second partition mounted and the apps that I already linked with link2sd, still work. Thanks again!!!

Unfortunately no. The mod requires a fresh ext4, not ext2, partition.
Can you take screenshot of system storage?
So partition 2 will be acting like internal storage completely or just data for apps? If its completely, couldn't I just dedicate 99% of my external card to partition 2?
---------- Post added at 09:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:12 AM ----------
Or better yet, what is the purpose of each partition?
Will you be adding more features to this Kernel in the future?

The first partition is there so Android does not bug you about a broken SD card. The second acts as 100% internal storage AND /data.
And yes 99% of the SD card can be for this mod. Or 50% that's up to you.
Screenshot uploaded so you guys can see the amount of apps is over the amount of space this phone used to have.

Will a 16gb SD be good enough? It looks like you're using a 32gb SD card. For ext4 partition you have it for 28gb why not 31gb? And can I make fat32 500mb as well? And since you use 28gb.. 8gb is used for nand storage? Can u give me an example for a 16gb SD card for aparted? I will like to make use of all of the 16gb SD. Thanks

The sizes can be what ever you want. as long as the 2nd partition is ext4. thats all you really need to worry about.
But here is an example:
Partition 1:
Filesystem: fat32
Size: 500MB
Partition 2:
Filesystem: ext4
Size: 1100MB
It is really that simple. I am using a 32GB SD Card, and have it split so that there is an 8GB is fat32 for Pictures I take and other misc Windows based programs I use with my phone.
But you do what you want. But once you set the sizes and go through Android's Setup, you cannot resize them.
Man I can't wait to get to a computer and try this out. Man, with xposed finally working it really couldn't have came at a better time. I'm down to about 327 mb of free space in the internal storage.. 8gb of total internal space was a horrible decision by HTC. I understand the phone is a budget buy but 8gb is downright insulting in 2015 on a lollipop device. But let me stop that miniature rant now. I did notice that my 32gb card I bought 3 phones ago is only class 4. Hopefully it doesn't lag like you mentioned could possibly be the case.. And if it is the case, I'm going to upgrade my micro SD card to a higher storage level and class level. I really need to get this mod working, and working optimally. In my opinion, if all goes correctly it will be a major upgrade to the phone and be a solution for my single biggest issue about this phone.

I'd recommend a class 6 or 10 I don't think this phone supports an SD card larger than 64GB so be warned on that aspect. A brand new card would also be better.

Thanks sandix this looks awesome. I have a class 4 sd but am going to try this when I get my class 10 in the mail. My manual says this phone supports sd cards up to 200gb. Hope I can use all that .
Wow. Yes if the phone supports 200GB then you can use 99.99% of that. (Some factors come into play like the SD card will have dead spots in it it will probably be closer to like 196GB, as well as the fat32 partition you need.) Post screenshots as well as results

I still haven't gotten around to the PC yet.. I'm not sure if I need this actually.. For a few days I've had xposed mod xinternal sd and well, check out the screen shot
Are you familiar with this module? I've never used it before.. But I have plenty of app space now. Finally I have everything I want installed coexisting all at the same time
No issues so far
That's a good module, but it's not doing what you think it does. It will work for awhile but you will find that you will run out of space because of apk size.

Thanks for the heads up. I figured it's worth a try. If I have issues I'll remove it. I updated the screenshot. It says I have 32 removable apps right now.
