Soft bricked N7000. How to? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tried everything I could with Odin and phone still stuck in a start loop.
I was downgrading from checkROM to official firmware ZSLA2 with CWM (I wanted to keep ROOT, so I selected "Keep CF-Root kernel") due to stability issues, after restarting the phone got into the start loop.
I flashed with Odin official ZSLA2 with the same result (looped start). I flashed XXKKA (again looped start). During the flashing process, Odin says the flashing was successful. By the way, both ROMS are tar.md5 files.
I tried to remove the battery for over 30 minutes and charge it for 2 hours, tried re-partition in Odin (it's my understanding that with a stock rom, it creates a clean installation), but Odin fails to start the process.
What else can I do?
I am sorry if this has previously asked, but I've been searching for over 2 hours and nothing similar came. Somebody mentioned to use a PIT file in addition, but the other person who got his phone soft bricked didn't solve the problem either. As downloading a ROM is time consuming and I've got many problems with upload sites in china (cannot access to most of them), I would thank any help in regards this issue.

Sounds like your kernel isn't talking properly to your ROM.
A fresh start is your best bet. Flash a stock rom and kernel from Odin and reroot it with CF-Root.
What files are you putting into Odin? There should be a total of 4.
I'd also avoid the use of a .pit file. I haven't even seen the mention of one in all my time on the Note forum. I really don't think Samsung uses them the way they used to. (I used to have to flash one all the time when testing roms on the original galaxy tab.)

I am using official ROM N7000ZSLA2_N7000ZSLA2_N7000XLA4_HOME.tar.md5 into PDA and also tried ROM N7000XXKKA_N7000XEUKK3_N7000XXKK5_HOME.tar.md5, which I used successfully in the past to make root into my phone.
Does it really make a difference to flash 4 separate files instead of a full pack? Where can I find an official ROM with pda radio and kernel separated? Just untar the ROM?

Oh, they do come into the Note; I flashed the Beta ICS, and one of the things they mention is to use the PIT file for the 16GB version, instead of the 32GB that comes with the leaked ROM. Unfortunately I deleted that ROM, and donwloading it is painfully slow and also wouldn't necessarily solve my problem as I couldn't even make a phone call.

True - the .pit file can change the size of the partition data... But that's not your problem. If the .pit file was the problem - you'd boot, but have 0 storage space (or something else wonky pertaining to your disk size.)
Open the tar up and make sure it has all the files in it. Should be 5.
I've attached a screenshot of the 5 file names. Make sure they are all in the .tar you are flashing.

Even i had similar problem after flashing Stock ROM using Odin (PC). Only thing i did is just rebooted in recovery and Wipe/factory Reset and Wipe cache. everything went fine.

This are the files I am flashing:
Sorry, I am new user and still cannot post screen captures. I do have more than the 5 files.
In XXKKA I have:

Factoryfs

Modem
param.lfs
Sbl

In ZSLA2:

Well, I finally managed to get my phone back. I was getting a lot of corrupted ROMS. I couldn't download your ROM as well; I managed to install the Beta ICS 4.0.3 which comes with a PIT for repartition, as I think the problem was that my booting partition was screwed.
Problem now is: that rom screws the phone and the keyboard, but at least I have my phone back.
Thank you

I have just recently dowloaded and installed the rom without problem. What do you mean by corrupted rom?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

I too bricked my phone but after reading this guide (ABD wouldn't recognise my device so I couldn't follow it) I understood the partitions had become messed up.
I read somewhere about the PIT files.
I ODINed the ABYSS Kernal and PIT (Q1_20110914_16GB-patched) for my 16gb n7000 ticked the repartition box. It booted into CWM recovery and I used the restore and bingo.

Fix The problem
I had the same problem, the device got into start loop. JUST DO A FULL WIPE..! and the device should start normally. I worked for me.... :good:

Is it normal for T model, or you just use weird and dangerous settings for fun?
Wiping EFS can lead to test-imei number and broken product code. Be sure you haver a backup of that folder before wiping that.
criskelo... I tried this and I didn't get anywhere :/
I had the same issue and it took me 2 hours to resolve (with a lot of pain, lol).
I've simply flashed the XWJM8 version using odin 1.3, no pit file and HENCE no repartition ticked.
It then booted to recovery console, because there was another error (can't remember which one cause I was too excited).
Anyway I did a wipe, cash clear and reformat SD card at the menu and let it boot.
After that I have flashed the latest version XXJPY also without PartitionInformation Table. (PIT). Then all the wipe and format stuff again.
I have now to go from scratch to setup anything again, but hey, at least my phone is alive again.
Some additional info. I also had that connection symbol on the screen with exclamation mark and triangle....so I thought I was done (due to trials with pit 512 which hung), but after removing battery and some trials I was able to enter download mode again....
Why happened that? I DON'T KNOW! I simply wanted to reflash the XXJPY stock rom, this time with pit512 and it lead to the topic of this thread!!!
This su**ed a lot, I didn't even modify something before!!!!
So: Less is even more! Don't fiddle with EFS and bootloader options it worked for me even without a pit!
Thanks to sardor for the initial idea, the XWJM8 seems to be a fixing rom for that when used properly, anyway to load a pit without to tick repartition is not a useful setting!
Well I was a long time reader at this great forum, IMHO the best regarding phone stuff, because there is the most useful knowledge shared.
I hope my first post will save other phones as well from sending it to repair.
Thanks I'm happy again..(let's see how long it'll last..lol...)
bricked my samsung galaxys and recoverd it
Hi I had exact same problem I totally bricked my i9000 Australian Optus version
I used
I9000DTJG4 firmware Australian Optus
With pit 512
And odin3 v1.3
Got all the files from
samfirmware . com / WEBPROTECT - i9000 . htm
Had to sign up but it’s free
However following criskelo's advice I unchecked the re partion box in odin
Even though the site above tells u to check it
And it worked
Thanks for everyone’s help on this thread.
Without you I would have had an expensive paper waited
Also the reason I got here in the first place as because I messed around with lag fix in clockwork recovery when I don’t know anything about it.
I was lucky this time but it’s really not worth playing around with things you doing understand.

Awesome, thanks buddy! I have spent too much time trying to fix this phone and it all totally pays off now!
Here is the fix for the Bell firmware:
Background info: I orginally tried the Lagfix and bricked my phone, this is how I finally fixed it...
1. Using Odin v1.82
Put Phone in download mode
Use PDA: I9000UGJH2
Use Phone: Modem.bin
(both files came from samfirmware, I9000UGJH2 download)
Use: 512.pit(also from samfirmware at the bottom of the i9000 page)
Check Re-Partition, Auto-reboot, F. reset time, phone EFS clear and Phone bootloader update. I know everyone above says don't but I tried their way first and it didn't work, I would recommend you do try their way first and if no results try mine.
2. Using Odin v1.82
Put Phone in download mode
Use PDA: I9000UGJL2
Use 803.pit
Check only Auto-reboot, F. reset time
Good luck! I hope you do your happy dance like I did!!

Just thought I would add to what got my phone back running again after having the Can't mount DBDATA error. It's a bell I9000M.
Used Odin 1.3 , Flashed Darky's resurection per his instructions pulled battery once complete, went back into download mode and flashed stock JL2 with Odin , re-partition un-checked and no Pit file and after that my phone was running again.
You can find Darky's Resurection Here!
Can not find the link for the JL2 stock rom but it's in the general section somewhere.
the xxjpu version worked for me
tlick repartition
add 512 pit
tick and add pda
tick and add modem
tick and add csc
go to download mode
connect usb
press start

Samsung Galaxy S GL-I9000 is not booting up after flashing

Hi,
First of all I'm pretty new to this forum and really don't know this is correct thread to post this or not. This forum is kinda huge
Here is my problem,
I have Samsung Galaxy S GL-I9000. After 6-7 months of use suddenly it got very slow and throwing error on installed application could not able to start (Force Close) randomly.
So I decided to do factory reset. I tried to format internal 16GB SD card, it was showing done but i could see the 4.3 GB occupied there. I factory reset option from the menu (forgot where) and it did not solve the problem.
I also tried to clear the Cache and Partition by 3-button combinations, again no use and decided to flash the ROM with available ROM.
I looked into XDA and found one and flashed it, but after flashing it is showing the samsung glowing logo and thats all, nothing is coming up.
I have Odin, Heimdall and bought the jig as well.
Please help me to make my phone in working condition. Any good ROM is fine for me don't need any fancy stuff right now.
Thanks in advance
Sudipta
you in something that calls BOOTLOOP you can fix it with the ODIN
tray to flush the STOCK ROM with the ODIN again
I tried to flash several times, and last 2 times I flashed with Phone EFS clear, Phone Boot Loader Update and Re-partition option selected.
Don't have any idea what else could be tried there. Can you please be specific?
Try clearing data, cache and dalvik and then flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117579
Thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me how to clear delvik?
I think data and cache can be cleared by going into reset screen by pressing 3-button combination.
Thanks in advance
Download stock rom for your phone from sammobile.
Then download odin for the phone again with pit file. It should have 512 pit file.
Now copy eveything on your internal sd card into a file on your pc.
Once done open odin, select pit512, and the three files of your stock rom ( phone, pda, csc) and check repartition. Make sure kies is not running. Now put phone into download mode and connect to usb, once phone connected to odin click start.
If still in bootloop try a second flash with same rom. This time don't check repartition and don't select the pit file. Select only phone, pda & csc.
If the stock rom you download only has one file put pit512 in pit and then file into pda although i think it is preferable to have the three file stock rom if possible.
Alternatively search for darkyrom resurrection in google and follow tutorial and downloads from the resurrection thread. That way the download has everything you need and darkyrom is a great custom stock rom

Jw5 rom from samfirmware is the latest.extract on your PC.password is samfirmware.com
Odin is very sensitive.so follow these steps
1. close kies
2.open odin
3.set files in Odin
4.turn phone off.remove battery, put it back in,use 3 button combo to get into download mode and connect phone to your PC.
5.wait for the Odin to recognize your phone(3-5 sec) and flash
6.don't remove phone until it is fully rebooted.this can up to 10 min.
And Done
Remember always to flash with full battery(100%)

Bricked Galaxy TAB 8.9 (GT-7300) - $20 reward for working solution

Hi,
So, I got a Samsung Galaxy TAB 8.9 (GT-7300) WiFi+3G. Nordic/European version. I have a long history of rooting and running custom ROM's on my Android devices, but this time i f##ed up a bit.
1. Installed root_original.zip from this thread by copying it on to the tablet and applying it from stock recovery.
2. Booted and installed Superuser and ROM Manager from Market.
3. Used ROM Manager to install CWM for Galaxy Tab 10.1 (Yes, I know...).
4. Tab would not boot, but I could still get in to download mode. Browsed some XDA threads and came across this guy who seemed to have the same problem. I did not see that he had a P7310 (WiFi only) tablet. So, I used Odin 1.85 to install the bootloader, which was for the P7310, not for P-7300. Now, the tablet boots but the display is just flickering, like it is using a wrong refresh rate or wrong resolution. Not at all possible to read anything, but I can still get into Download mode.
5. Installed stock rom from here, specifically this one: P7300XWLA2------2012 January----P7300NEELA1-----Nordic countries----
Still no luck. The tablet boots into Android but the display is still flickering.
$20 for anyone who gets me out of this mess
Can you come in recovery ?
Than try this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1519564
There is an option in CWM under the mount and storage tab where stands mount usb connection click on that and move this to your tab after that install it
I hope it will work!
You could also try the Swedish firmware: http://hotfile.com/dl/146666862/13403b2/P7300XWKL4_P7300NSEKL1_NSE.zip.html
The NSE are usually pretty much the same as NEE with some swedish bloatware. Worth a try I guess.
Also see this guide for how to use Odin in case you did something wrong: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137
One thing that I've noticed when flashing with Odin is that even if I check the F.reset checkbox it still does not do a factory reset (at least it did not do it for me). You should be able to do a factory reset using the stock recovery.
Oh and btw, my advice is for free.
Hi safariking,
I can get in to recovery, but I'm unable to read anything, as the display is just flickering. I would need a press-by-press guide in order to perform the steps correctly... :/

When I flash a complete ROM with Odin (e.g. the Swedish ROM you suggested) - is there anything left to flash that could be causing this? If I were to return the tablet to the dealer, will there be any evidence of dumb-user-flashing?

I honestly do not know.
Have you tried flashing the PIT file (in the PIT section) along with the ODIN image (in the PDA section)? You can download the PIT file so you can click on Repartition, right here. It's a very small file. Be sure you have F.Reset Time checkmarked too. Best of lucks.
If you flash a bootloader for P7310 so when you trying to flash P7300 ROM with odin, the bootloader will mapping all file just like P7310 with their partition Layout.. I think the pit file is not the solution..
First you need turn back the bootloader to original form.. I dont know where I can find P7300 bootloader..
After you finish with the bootloader, try to install P7300 Stock rom, with pit file and repartition..
I dont know if this post will help you.. but it worth to try..
EDIT:
maybe you can use firmware from P7300ZSKH5 from this link

Have you tried flashing the PIT file (in the PIT section) along with the ODIN image (in the PDA section)? You can download the PIT file so you can click on Repartition, right here. It's a very small file. Be sure you have F.Reset Time checkmarked too. Best of lucks.

Re-partitioning with the PIT file along with the ROM did not help :/

If you flash a bootloader for P7310 so when you trying to flash P7300 ROM with odin, the bootloader will mapping all file just like P7310 with their partition Layout.. I think the pit file is not the solution..
First you need turn back the bootloader to original form.. I dont know where I can find P7300 bootloader..
After you finish with the bootloader, try to install P7300 Stock rom, with pit file and repartition..
I dont know if this post will help you.. but it worth to try..
EDIT:
maybe you can use firmware from P7300ZSKH5 from this link

Thanks for your suggestion, but unfortunately: no luck.
Just to be sure this isn't a compatibility issue on my computer, I set up a clean install Win7. I'm using x64, could this be an issue?

As long as you have the right drivers installed, no. That's my setup.
I had a similar issue. It occured only when I turned display off and on, both in android and in battery charging mode while powered off. I just went back to the store and got it replaced. xD
Anyway the flickering began to show up after flashing 3.2 back from a 4.0 rom... So I think there was something wrong with the bootloader.. Didnt find any tar file containing the original bootloader.. Perhaps someone here can make it for you
hey,
i got same problem after i tried to install cm9. now i cant install nothing (i formated cash, data, system and preload) no data factory reset working. i have nonstop bootloops and format cache and dalvik not working but cwm ist starting but not working really. but can start download mode too ... so i think its not a super-brick for my gt 7300 from switzerland.
so, i will try to download from samMobile the original firmware and to flash with odin. anybody knows a tutorial with odin for gt 7300? cant find nothing for pit, csc, tar ...
please help me
thx sophie from switzerland

I have to say, I was about to send the tablet to samsung, it was dead, no rom, no boot, no partition, no USB connection to store, what save me was the Odin up load that you recommended me, the tablet was really crashed.
I Think that is a sollution for actually almost any problem on the tablet (a complete format, sure, but still a good solution for ROM problems).
anyway, Many Thanks!!!!!!
Newbie try to help.
Have you try to install another CMW version using odin? Maybe it's caused by wrong CMW version. Try CMW v5.5.0.4 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312218

[Q] newbie - HELP PLS - bricked?

Hi,
I came from an LG 2x, so I thought rooting my device in order to have some extra authorizations was no big deal. I first tried with pc software Unlockroot, but it failed in the process.
Being my GB 236 Note quite dirty I wanted to do some extra backup and cleanup. So I googled and stopped at rootyourgalaxynote.com, I tried the first ROOT method, not working, I tried the second method with pc ODIN 3.04 and abyss kernel 42, ODIN says it worked, note reboots but it stops at Samsung galaxy Note Gt-N7000 with yellow triangle. shocked, I didnt really expect that! After reading a little bit else, I went to sammobile downloaded italian gb 236 stock (the version I had befor kernel flashing) and tried to flash with PC Odin. It Failed. Device still gets in download mode. But now I'm seriously worried. What can I do?
[UPDATE]: I tried using Odin 1.85 and the same gb 236 stock rom but it stops half the factoryfs.img flashing...please explain me what's happening. I don't really want to bring it in assistance and lose my warranty

First you should t have flash abyss through odin since now you are not rooted and do t have the warranty too, the counter of flashes increased to 1 (look at the download mode small text), for rooting you can use chainfire's tool (in the cf-root kernel thread look for it in devolepment section) next get a stock rooted kernel and flash using the tool (read instructions).
For now use pc odin 1.87 and get a firmware 2.3.6 use the pc odin select the file on PDA and flash it, make sure phone is charged 100% and press start, if it doesn't work then uninstall drivers, reboot machine, reinstall them and kill kies process if present in task manager and then goto download mode connect USB and open pc odin wait for the port to be ready aka green and select file then start.... you should be fine its a soft brick afterall.

Yeah I know atm I don't have system nor root nor warranty.
I tried odin 1.87 with the stock rom from sammobile but at one point or another is it cache.img or factoryfs.img, it fails (I also uninstalled kies and drivers and reinstalled them, i also tried installing only drivers, for at&at note, but it doesn't let me). I'm gonna download another stock rom, I just hope in some way I soon solve the thing, given that I also don't know how much charge is left and if the phone still gets charged. it just displays an idle circle near an empty battery when connected to pc or A\C cable.

When connected to charger make sure phone is off the battery meter will show as soon as you connect, case it doesnt leave it for like 3 hours is fine... next about that ROM redownload. The package cleanup you temp directories in PC and try again if still goto recovery abyss I guess? Wipe everything and use the mount option and format partitions I would recommed you to have repartition but I dont have the file you can look for ot in forum its. PIT file download fireup odin select it in PIT section and see if repartitioning is shocked, of so select firmware as PDA and flash again.

Thx for your prompt answer, but I really didn't catch this part, if it still fails I must go in recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache?I don't have CWM installed as rooting was the first flashing I tried on NOTE, so I don't have recovery installed. Since it stopped in the middle of flashing factoryfs.img, my Note is now displaying sth like 'updrading went wrong, try recovery mode in Kies': can it help in anyway? The PIT file and procedure are the same that are used for the EMMC bug?

Sorry for tea doubled post its a dumb app X's
You wipe using the CWM file in the Iss root section, and a normal recovery wipe would do too (aka restore defaults)

Hi REVERSIN,
Thx. I was starting to fear it could be sth more than a soft brick. Can the initial use of unlockroot have caused anything (at least a week ago, Note still working after that)?
Sorry but I really can't understand what procedure should I follow since these initial attempts at flashing stocks failed. Should I try to flash CWM? What is the ISS root section (is it in the forum)? Where can i do a normal recovery wipe from? CWM I guess..
THX for your help

If you have the stock recovery, restore default wipes everything.
If you have stock re every and want CWM temporary just to wipe goto n7000 devolepment and check how to root by dr.ketan and get files there
If you have CWM then wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik.... and try. Old download another firmware like kk5.... something else not the new LC1 LX1 releases.... (Latest GB) get an old one to get root easly

[SOLVED] G7000 Stuck at "Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000"

Hello!
First of all I've searched all the posts about this problem.. and personally I can't fix it.
So here is what I've done to brick my Galaxy Note GT-N7000 (I think that's called a non-usable device).
Installed few ROMs and finally after taking some decisions I've returned back on ICS 4.0.3 (Flashed with ODIN 1.85).
Restored EFS with kTool (because ClearNotev5 did something wrong with my phone.. and discovered after few hours that I can restore EFS).
Updated ICS 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 using WIFI (OTA I think it's called) and BANG after restart phone stucked at Bootscreen.
So from yesterday untill now I've restored my phone to factory settings few times(GB 2.3.5 & 2.3.6/ICS 4.0.4),repartitioned with .pit files for N7000 16GB,installed different custom/stock ROMs and nothing.
I've discovered few minutes ago while triyng to make a factory restore (GB 2.3.5) that my phone stucked at data.img... I've read about this and it is said that I must change my N7000 motherboard.. I have no warranty so please help.. and sorry for my bad english
Read many times about ota harbrick, i think its not advisable to use ota for upgrade. Sorry for your loss.
Flash gb in pc odin, if sucessfull and still stuck in logo go to CWMR and perform 3 wipes. This is all advise i can give you.
And try different gb rom.

I think you had already tried the recovery method from a bricked device. So if you still facing problems you have to change the MB.
OTA Brick or Soft Brick?
I still haven't fix it but here is what I want:
Can someone give me different versions of GB (I've tried only one with CSC,MODEM but this now stops at data.img..) :crying:
I have to make a repartition to my phone? Will that help?
And can someone guide me through a tutorial step by step on how to revive my phone from EMMC Bug..?
PS: When I try to wipe data in CWM (using Hydracore Kernel v2.0b STD) with ICS 4.0.4 (Stock) my N7000 stucks, same for installing CleaNotev5.0 (stucks at Extracting\System).. But what is curios is that, I can clear Dalvik Cache and Cache, I can install Kernels and run N7000 in DOWNLOAD/CWM or stock Restore mode.
Any solutions?Please help..

You can try the post here :

Just follow the step there.
I've experienced before, and revive it using this method. So far mine still work well, and no further error ever since.
You will loose certain GB on your internal storage. Which for me it's not a big deal. I'm kinda lazy to go to samsung repair center, unless my phone is totally dead.
Here is my step (follow at your own risk) :
1. You have to know first your N7000 is the 16GB or 32GB, and then you download the correct pit for your phone.
2. After you download, extract the zip file.
3. Since mine is the 16GB, I've picked this pit file to use (inside the zip) : Q1_20110914_16GB-patched-regain-0102400-kB.pit (the pit file will be vary depending on which sector your phone brick)
4. Put your phone on to download mode.
5. Open ODIN PC and connect your phone, and wait till ODIN say "Added" and you see that your phone has connected.
6. Put the patch pit file I choose, then put the samsung stock rom as the PDA (if you downloaded 1 file only for the stock ROM, if not, put properly for the PDA, Phone, and CSC).
7. Check ON the "repartition", "Auto-reboot", "F-reset time"
8. Click Start, and wait till the process has finished. Your phone should auto reboot by then.
9. My phone has recovered, and I lost 1GB internal storage.
One last thing, try not to do wipe on ICS, unless you are on a safe kernel like speedmod / GLNotecore.
For Hydracore (You may check with the developer), I haven't tested it yet for wiping. But for those speedmod and GLNotecore, is confirm safe kernel. I've tried these 2 for wiping.
PS : if you are not sure with my step on reviving with the pit file, I suggest you to read the link above from the OP for the pit revive method.
Good Luck !

No problem. Just pick any gb rom, one problem at a time, your problem now is how your phone can boot up.
If you want go to www.sammobile.com and pick your specific rom.
I've downloaded the COSMOTE GB ROM and I will flash it with PC ODIN.
After that I need as I was saying few posts ago how to identify which part of my internal storage is bricked..but a simplified method/guide please.. and sorry for my requests but believe me I'm kinda desperate..

The OP stated very clear on how to get the part of your bricked storage.
After emmc_find_brick_start.zip I get stucked on:
scanning 1167 Mib = 1224 MB ... (picture below)
And now I am waiting emmc_find_brick_end.zip to get stuck
LE: emmc_find_brick_end.zip stuck at:

Shouldn't be a problem. However, best to root current, then efs backup multiple locations. See dr ketans toolbox thread on how.
Your phones csc is also Romania? Best to stick with your phones csc and those country roms if you want to continue ota/kies updatability in the future Dial *#06# for emei and then *#272*yourimeihere# to find out 3 letter csc.

I'm happy I didn't changed my MB ..if someone got some ideas why it stucks please reply
