[ROM][CM7] CM7-20120226-Nightly - Droid X Android Development

CM7 20120226 Nightly
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=shadow
*I am not recommending anyone flash this. MAY NOT be for cdma devices*
*I don't even begin to try to take credit for this just stumbled across it*

This is based on the Froyo kernel and requires fixes to be flashed.
Pooka's unofficial Cm7 nightlies can be found over on Rootzwiki, don't require fixes, and are based on the Gingerbread kernel.

It would be great if you could tell us how you determined that. Part of my confusion on what this update is centers around the fact that it popped out under shadow vice cdma_shadow as all previous ones were. Thanks.

All the official nightlies are based on the Froyo kernel.

This is actually CM9. Any builds labeled "cm" are CM9, builds labeled "cyanogenmod" are CM7.
EDIT: Oops, guess that didn't happen like I read it did.
Now that CyanogenMod has their new build servers the nightlies should be going again for everyone soon, I hope!
Check this out too: http://jenkins.cyanogenmod.com/job/android/
EDIT 2: Builds listed at Jenkins as "cm" are CM9, "cyanogen" are CM7.

[Q] 2.2 Roms in a nutshell

Ok, i've been absent from the forums for some time and have been trying to play catch up... If someone who has been keeping up would just help me get a few things straight it would be awesome.
please just put the number and if its correct or the answer or w.e.
What I think I know:
1. CyanogenMod- Established dev who releases nightly updates (CM6?) to his tweaked build of rooted mostly ASOP 2.2, which recently (thanks to a new kernal?) began working on our CDMA Hero’s.
2. Most 2.2 ROMs are based off of one of the CM6 nightlies, then customized with themes and tweaks
3. “CyanogenMod-6 for Hero CDMA - V6.0.0 (09/18/2010)” is one of these, and has been tweaked minimally, and is considered a stable build as far as CM6 goes
4. “FroYo 2.2 – CM6- Vanilla” is basically same as above, just complied from a differently “nightly”, while “Extremely Blue” and “BlackMod” are the same, just themed
5. The main (only?) NON–CM6 based options for 2.2 are…
a. asopMod v.03m = which is a very ASOP build, includes OC
b. NFX-Hero 2.2.1.update1 = slimed down ASOP, includes OC and JIT option
Questions:
6. If I want the CM6 nightly updates, is there an updater app in any of these ROMS’s, like in Fresh Hero 2.4 (what I’m used to), or do I have to pull an update.zip from somewhere (or something)?
7. Do some phones work with JIT enabled, and others don’t? and if so is there a way to tell without just trying
8. If I'm set on 2.2 should I check out any other ROMs than those I mentioned
9. Is there a standout (stable) kernal right now?
Just want to say:
NFX-Hero 2.2.1 is just the version number. It is still based on HTC Sense 2.1.
There is currently no Sense 2.2 port for the Hero.
As for the stable kernel, I've heard good things about this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756774
specifically [email protected] 09/14/2010, people refer to it as "#14 kernel"

Cyan is the almighty grand pubba of AOSP and was one of there first to release roms in the mainer we see them now. He does not do everything and all roms as he has allot of help from other devs, for us its Darch who maintains the Heroc version of cyanogen (sorry if I forgot some of you other devs)
2. Most 2.2 ROMs are based off of one of the CM6 nightlies, then customized with themes and tweaks
All of the roms you see for the heros here that are AOSP based com from darch's and then cyans repo period, nightlies are built roms while we theme built roms roms deving is done from source and can be taken from different time and snap shots so nightly means nothing then.
3. “CyanogenMod-6 for Hero CDMA - V6.0.0 (09/18/2010)” is one of these, and has been tweaked minimally, and is considered a stable build as far as CM6 goes
The stable build of cm6.0 is from the combined deving of cyan, darch and alot of other people to bring the best of wheat works and leave out what doesn't. Nightlies usually are adding what seems to work but is not always guarenteed
4. “FroYo 2.2 – CM6- Vanilla” is basically same as above, just complied from a differently “nightly”, while “Extremely Blue” and “BlackMod” are the same, just themed
Black mod is a theme, extreme blue is a themed rom compiled from cyan/drach's source vinilla is a terms used to describe a stock rom which is what cm6.00 stable and anyhting else that comes from the repo.
5. The main (only?) NON–CM6 based options for 2.2 are…
a. asopMod v.03m = which is a very ASOP build, includes OC
b. NFX-Hero 2.2.1.update1 = slimed down ASOP, includes OC and JIT option
I'll go ape **** on this but asopMod v.03m is from cyan's source ino at first he tried to make it seem like he compiled from AOSP source but the fact is he uses cyans like almost everone else and if you check his thread now he given the props the the cyan team as he should have at first.... NFX-her is a sense based rom from android 2.1

Not yet but that would be nice nightlies are not considered stable and there for i dont think theyll be added to an updater like cm updater or fresh updater but when we start seeing more stable builds you'll see the updater used, cm updater is on cm6 right now just nothing to update
7. Do some phones work with JIT enabled, and others don’t? and if so is there a way to tell without just trying
All phones should work with JIT (Just in Time) dalvik compiler, whether they run betters is a different story but I have never had issues
8. If I'm set on 2.2 should I check out any other ROMs than those I mentioned
For sense I like fresh as he seems to be the best sense dev (imo) around here for AOSP you go with the grand master Cyan and his cm6 (for the hero) there are some other devs out there that make roms for other phones but most of them still use Cyan's repo.
9. Is there a standout (stable) kernal right now?
Yes Decadence

if anyones see's an error in what i posted please correct me.
Any froyo rom is going to be based off of CM6. The nightlies are built every night from any changes made that day. They are considered beta, however most will find no issues at all. If you flash CM6 the Jit setting is a quick change and will not screw up the phone. You just go into setting>cyanogenmod setttings>performance settings and check or uncheck jit and reboot. There is a ROM Manager app in CM6, but you have to install clockwork recovery so I am not sure what will show up in the ROMs option or what else it does because I do not want to install clockworks. As mentioned a lot are using #14.

not a lot shows up in the downloads section for rom manager on the hero. there's 4 selections, and none of them include cm6. it's mostly useless in my experience.
hopefully they update the downloads list soon.

Actually i was referring to cm updater which is similar to the fresh updater... when we see more stables from cm6 and up it'll start showing some it that. I personally don't care for rom manager.

rom manager could use some work to make it a bit more useful. i like it for queuing up roms to flash and making things a bit more automated, however i'm not sure it clears the dalvik cache when it does its thing so i generally have to do it myself anyways.
i'll have to check out fresh updater. i have cm updater, installed from the market, does it actually come with cm6 now? i never saw it when i flashed the 9/18 and already had it installed when i clean flashed the latest nightlies.

Well fresh updater is pretty much the same as cm updater but its only for fresh roms. cm updater might not be part of cm6 I can't, it probably isnt. I actually would like it to be as with cm5 and below it also had themes in it. hopefully itll come back when theres more cm6 stables.
Thanks all. Didn't want to jump into 2.2 without knowing what I was getting into. I decided to start with CM6.0.0, and so far its been great. As mush as I love all things Freshh, I'm mad I waited this long. I DO miss the Senses dialer (minus the ungodly lag) and I havent made up my mind on the keyboard, but the overall speediness is killer.
Hell yea froyo/ CM.

Cyanogen Nightlies

Hi all,
Does installing Cyanogen Nightlies erase the whole phone? How about when a new RC comes out?
Also, the Cyanogen Nightlies thread is 133 pages long. Is there any quicker way to find the latest nightly?
Thanks guys!
I'm not sure what you mean by "erasing the whole phone." If coming from a not-cyanogen rom, you probably should wipe everything. If you already have cyanogen 6 installed, all you do is flash a nightly and you keep all of your stuff. Also, you don't need to look through all the posts on the thread, just click on the link in the first post for a list of all the nightly builds.
Thank you Thecheatiscool!
Also, when 2.3 is released, does upgrading to that overwrite "my stuff"?
It will if you install the Google release. If you wait for Cyanogen to release a 2.3 then who knows. Probably still need to wipe depending on how much different 2.3 is from 2.2.

Cm 7 nightlys do they work on milestone?

Hey guys,
Firstly would like to thank all the work u are putting in. Luca HoNo and the cyanogen team. Its much appreciated and keep it up
I was womdering about the team douche nightly builds and if any are useable with the milestone. I tried a few without success. I noticed that my phone says glacier when I go to the settings I'm running cm 6 with HoNos update.
I tried the glacier on and it wouldn't due ro I believe an antenna error.
If anyone has some info on these it would be great.

I don't think so~but it'll be some time....
The CyanogenMod nightly builds don't work with the Milestone. If you want to try CM7, you have to build it from source: http://android.doshaska.net/cm6build
CM doesn't officially support the Milestone.
All CM builds you see for the milestone are unofficial.
Right, follow the http://android.doshaska.net/cm6build instructions but replace froyo with gingerbread:
Code:
repo init -u git://github.com/nadlabak/android.git -b gingerbread
There's no point to upload the builds for the public, as the stalled gkisystem tasks issue has not been resolved yet (=> radio is not properly initialized). I suppose that those who can possibly help to solve this issue need to be able to compile it themselves anyway.
There are other issues, mainly regarding the sensors functionality, but those I currently consider minor, as they will be eventually fixed by cvcps, who's looking into it right now (to get them working on Droid CM7).
The gkisystem is the real challenge. CM7 for Milestone without working GSM/UMTS would be of no use.
If you're building the CM7 for Milestone, remember that the resulting update.zip is currently not able to erase /system when applied from OR - you have to delete the contents of the system folder manually from the console beforehand.
I've made some builds here to test some days ago.. it's surelly fast, but the man of cyanogen2milestone (kabaldan) has already explained what is missing at this point.
Thanks for the info. I suppose i will just need to be patient while the devs work their magic.

cm? cm7?

i read that cm6 had something to do with froyo and cm7 with gingerbread. What exactly is CMx? cm7 specifically

Cyanogen Mod is one of the most popular android roms/mods. They have versions for a variety of devices. The most current version I believe is 6.1 but CM7 is currently being tested on some devices. Supposedly CM7 will be released for Nook Color as well though we haven't received any beta information as far as I know.
CM6 uses Froyo and CM7 uses Gingerbread which is why it is really exciting.
Its my understanding that the only thing holding CM7 from the nook is the lack of the source code for the latest update. As soon as version devs have that in hand, we should see a nook color version.
thanks you two, that clears it up quite a bit!

[Q] what is the best version of rom CM7 now for now?

I have not followed to update rom for my device for a half year
So I don't know what is the best rom for Optimus 2X now
I am using CM7 and I feel like I like it, I get used to it.
So that's why I am looking for only CM7 rom.
However, if you have any other rom that you think it's better. Please suggest me, and please tell me why is it better.
Thank you.
this is my device information
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: 1035.21_20110405
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.41-vorkKernel
Mod version: CyanogenMod-7-06212011-NIGHTLY-Optimus2X
Any of them I need to change for a better performance, please tell me.
ps. I suffer the freeze problem sometimes. For now, I use it only for game and chat. When I play a game, I usually suffer that the game hangs, and popup "Force Close"
And sometimes phone automatically shut off.
I was bored, until I feel nothing about it...... (too often until I buy new phone to use as phone, and use 2X as a video game device)
Look for temasek's Kang rom in the Development forum. It's quite stable, has a great performance and battery life is good too.

You might also want to change your kernel. Vorkkernel is outdated, try either ETaNa Kernel or Ironkernel. You should be able to find them in the dev section.
yeah, I know that my rom and anything of that is really old because of I play lots of game and don't want anything to be erased. Also, that time the new rom update too fast. I was bored of changing rom every 3 days. So I stopped following all of these and keep using it.
And now, I think the time has come to modify everything.
Can you guys tell me the best version of everything for me to upgrade it.
e.g. Firmware (my 2x is still V10B)
Baseband
Kernel
and Rom
if you specify version for me, it would be much faster for me to find it
thank you
Allright,
Firmware: Either Android 2.3.X or 4.0 (your choice, however 4.0 is still in alpha phase, so not everything is working perfectly)
Baseband: Different for each and every phone. Do you have good signal and call quality right now? Then there is no need to change your baseband. Make sure to have a matching RIL file with your BB. Download one from the GetRIL app.
Rom: For Android 2.3.X (a.k.a Gingerbread) I would recommend temasek's latest CM7 KANG, or the latest CM7 nightlies, because they are the best and most recent. Temasek can't continue his CM7 work anymore unfortunately, but his Kangs are rock-solid. (Link in signature)
For Android 4.0 (a.k.a Ice Cream Sandwich) you can choose between the latest RC'S CM9 SelfKANG (link in signature) or Owain's CM9 KANG. (dev section) They're both pretty new and are quite stable despite being in an alpha stage. However, not everything is working perfectly, but I can tell you once everything works, CM9 will be much better than CM7.
Kernel: If you use CM7, you can choose between many kernels. The best ones I would recommend are the ETaNa Kernel (link in signature) and Ironkernel. These kernels are the most recent and have the best performance. Unfortunately the dev from Ironkernel, SetIron, left XDA so you cant follow the development over here.
For CM9 there is only one custom kernel available, which is also Ironkernel from SetIron. (link in signature) Although I must say that it's not fully stable because CM9 being in an alpha stage.
Hope this helped
For me, temasek's latest CM7 KANG is the best ROM so far.
However, seeing you havent change ur ROM for the last 6 months and familiar with nightlies, I would recommend you to update to the latest CM7 nightlies.
Just as simple as that. no need to think and you will find your O2X in its best performance.
I recommend Temasek's Kang. I started using is a few weeks ago and it's the best GB rom I've used. I'd still be on it, if I hadn't tried CM9.
thank you all you guys, I will try it soon.
temasek has stopped kanging? Now what?
