Headphone for Galaxy Note - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guyz, Now am planning to buy a good over the ear headphone for my note. I have finalized the Grado SR80i. Has anybody else tried it with the note ? Or any recommendations other than this?

Have the Grado SR80i and I've been using it together with the Note for over 3 months now. Sounds great! Prior to the Note I had a Iphone 3GS and I can't hear any noticeable differences. The Grado SR80i is a great headphone.

Grado
Have used Grado SR60 since i bought Note. Sounds good. But Voodoo Louder is must have.

Why is Voodoo louder a must have?

If your hearing is really bad you might need it to max the volume.
Sent from my superior GT-N7000 using Tapatalk

I never listen to my Grado on max (standard) volume. When I'm at home it's nice and quiet so the volume doesn't have to be that high. When I'm on the train or the bus the volume doesn't go high either because of the open design other people will hear your headphones very clearly. And I don't want to be an A-hole so I turn the volume down a bit.

Because it makes sound not only louder, but also better. So it seems to me. Comparing with and without it is showing difference on same volume level.

Didn't thought about it that way. But maybe because it really amps your signal more it's able to drive your headphones better. Might be giving it a try, thanks matikl

sennheiser mm550
Sennheiser mm550 is a good headphone, been using it, pretty good noise cancelling, and audio is crystal clear.
if you can get poweramp, it is a good app to enjoy music, play around with the eq to hit the best possible sound

What do you think about the low sound on Galaxy Note!

I've had this mobile like 2 months now. and im starting too realize how bad the sound on this device is. I have 3 set of Headphones like Bose Quietcomfort, Beats by dre, and the sound is so much better and higher if you try the same headphones on my old iphone 4. Why do samsung have so low sound? any suggestion? ive tried the most of volumeboosters out there like Voodoo or Volume plus etc, it gets a litle better but far away from the old iphone?
I have had no problems with the sound on my Note. Maybe yours is defective?

Low as in volume or quality? When I have compared my phone to my old galaxy s, an iphone, and an HTC sensation, my Note far surpassed them all in terms of volume and quality.

I have to agree, haven't noticed any problems with music or video sound quality/volume through stock and big AKG headphones. Maximum is always a little too much for normal listening.

After repairing my broken display, there is room for another speaker. I don't have problems listening to music through headphones over barking dogs(work). Im not disappointed but I did have high expectations for the speaker on the back.

Sorry to hear your having problems. Subjectively, I'm having no problems with the sound. In fact though this phone is similar to the S2, i have noticed much improvement with the note's sound quality in-call.

I experienced the same thing as you, as I had an iPhone 4 previously and the sound quality from the iPhone was much more full and overall louder.
The fix for my Note was to get Voodoo Louder from the market (paid app), and it does wonders for obtaining higher volume levels, as well as giving the Note a more full bodied sound (though only through your headphone jack).
Give it a try and see!
for me galaxy note produce high quality sounds and sound volume can be realy high. I had sgs2 and listening within music was pain in the ass
Try removing dirt from your ears LOLJK...just buy voodoo louder or poweramp.
I fixed the low sound volume in the stock music player by going to> menu> more> settings> equalizer> custom> and r
move the levers all the way up, all of them, than go to sound effects and choose> Bass Enhancement, and be careful not to damage your ears, the internal streakers will be louder too.
Instead of bass enhancement, try this http://knowmydroid.com/blog/enable-megabass-android-phone
I recently purchased a Galaxy Note (GT-N7000). And I noticed that when I use the AUX port in my car to play Google Music through - I have to turn up my volume much higher than I did with my iPhone 3G. I have the "Media Volume" all the way up on my Note. Problem is that if I switch to the radio - which is rare but might happen - it will be far louder than using my phone. Any way to level this out?
Oh please just read my post one post above yours, my car's speakers will blow off while using the GNote.
I get better sound quality on my note with stock headphones than used to on my iPhone 3g(stock headphones), maybe was something faulty with the iPhone... Also i don't need to raise the volume over the middle level sound bar. That's loud enough!

That also happens with my pioneer car unit. With the iPhone i used level 20 plugged with the phone port rather than the headphone out(wich bypassed the iOS volume), with the note i have to use something like vol 40! What i do is set the Multimedia volume to the MAX that seems to "fix" the problem! ...
There's little benefit from software here. Like sgs2 note has inferior DAC( yamaha) compared to SGS or iphone. It's hardware limitation here.

I have beyerdynamic DT990 600ohm. It is not bad with note compared to my x fi titanium HD + external headphone amp e9.
It is a little bit loud at maximum volume. So I guess normal headphone should work fine without volume issue.

Audio Quality

Is the LG O4X audio quality & volume through headphones really that bad? I've read GSMarena's review as they've now posted the audio part of the review. They said it possibly one of the worst devices they've tested
This will be a deal breaker for me. :-( what do you guys think?
Any previous GSII ownes in here that can provide input on personal opinions between the quality of the two?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Audio quality seems fine to me. GSMArena suspected they had a faulty unit, and said they would try another but I have yet to see an update to the review to reflect this.
I did see that but thought what is the chance of them receiving a faulty unit. Im currently using a Galaxy S II, and the audio quality via music player suits me. I reappy want the 4X as its a sexy beast, just wouldn't be able to cope with crap music quality.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
The sound quality is pretty good on the 4x. I upgraded after breaking my milestone and I was also iffy on buying the 4x because of the gsm review... when I tested it out, it sorta felt like my entire phone became a speaker but it instantly became muffled when I covered the grill. Black magic is at work here lol
Im on about through the headphones lol
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Oudio output is fine for me too, though not as good as the One X, a little louder would not be a bad thing, but overall as good as other smartphones in the segment.
It is, once again, fine. Satisfactory. I don't like in-ear headsets so I just use the ones that came with my milestone 2 years ago >_> I did try the headphones that were in the box though, they unlock some eq presets along with an option to manually tweak the levels. But plugging in any headphones will unlock that.
...as good as the other six smartphones I use, honestly. I always check music quality through my $500 akg closed headphones with quite a range of high quality files and the 4x sounds really fine, absolutely no problem here.
Just bought 4X to replace my 3.5" iPhone 4S, everything is fine except the sound quality which I must say is terrible compared with iPhone especially when using the built in speaker Maybe it's because the speaker is at the back of the phone

What if you set the O4X on its front so that the speaker grill is facing upwards? Will it be not as terrible? Is it really that bad compared to iPhone 4S?

Only the sound is louder, quality won't improve no matter where you face the speaker. Apart from Moto's Raxx, iphone's sound quality is excelent (from my own experiece).
I downloaded Poweramp as recmmended by local forum here to my 4X and the sound quality improves a little bit.

hi guys, what about the call quality? is it loud n clear on speakers?
It's okay. I went through a few phone calls and I didn't experience any problems and have no complaints.
Although... has anyone else noticed that the voice for navigation is kinda quiet? I turned it up to max and drove a few suburbs over but I felt like it was a bit too gentle for a car environment.
Music over bluetooth, Motorola Motorokr s305 stereo headphone & headset works good. But dolby mobile setting stutters (to bad, cause I liked the sound). I now use the headphone amplifier setting. Also good, but not as loud as Dolby mobile.

Did anybody try the headphone out with high-end multidriver iems (Like Shure SE535, Phonak PF232 or Westone UM3x...)?
I'm an iPhone 4S user and the headphone out is almost perfect when listen thru my UM3x. Hence i was wondering if the 4X would be close in terms of noise floor, resolution and frequency response.
Thanks in advance

If the TF10 sounds good and you have your treble then output impedance of the LG must be quite low which is a great thing.
Could you fill me in about the noise floor (Noise that you can hear when you pause the music till the amp section shuts off).
Thanks a lot

Nexus 4 Sound quality = GOOD!

Got my Nexus 4 today, for those in the UK, i bought it on PAYG from o2 (£399)
Been running FLAC files through PowerAMP with my Sennheiser IE7's and they sound as good, if not better than my Cowon J3 DAP.
The Cowon J3 is a high-end DAP so i'm really impressed this phone can compete.
No yellow screen issues so far either, but i've not been benchmarking yet, gonna give it a week before i stress it out.
Yeah I was really surprised with the audio when I first plugged in my XB-1000's. I was expecting mediocre-bad audio quality that you typically get with phones but this seems really great. It's a really well rounded phone.
Wow, surprising, and good to hear. My GS2 really has dead lifeless sound through my ety's. I've taken to using my Pre for MP3's as it sounds infinitely better. I hope others post their impressions here as this may be one thing that pushes me over to this handset once it arrives here. Damn shame they only put max 16g in it if it really is a musical media player. Did supercurio weigh in on it yet?

I think the Nexus 4 has the same DAP as the GSIII (US). There is a noticeable sound difference although the amp volume is lower. It still sound much better than the GalaxyNexus + Sound Tweaks.
Actually now I've tried headphones, incredible on stock audio settings with Poweramp.
I have one issue, using the headphone jack with the line input on my car suggests the output is quite low (I used to have an Atrix, I had to turn that down one from full because it distorts!). I now have to turn my car up quite high to be able to hear anything. One thing I am appalled about is the fact the device doesn't seem to play nice with my car charger... i get serious background noise when that is plugged in (no issues on the Atrix)

i had an international SGS3 with the voodoo sound implementation from siyah, while the Nexus 4 does sound worse its not a whole lot worse.
the main differences fell with the bass they are not quite as deep and the highs are a bit rolled off compared to the SGS3 but not enough to cause an unpleasant listening experience; im sure with time perhaps with DSP manager it will be even closer.
but the bottom line is its not that much worse that id go back to the SGS3 and audio quality was my main concern with the keeping either handset (i've only just put the SGS3 on ebay )
for the comparisons i used Shure SE535;s IEM's

I don't have any Apple devices so I can't compare, but I can tell you it sounds really good with my older XB-500's too in comparison to my PC soundcard & especially previous phone (Xperia X10).
It's not head-thumpingly bassy and loud like you'd get with a proper amp, but there is still some good bass and just overall the sound is very pleasant. :good: I think you will be quite happy with how it sounds if you're not overly audiophilic.

cant speak for the iphone but!, i have a cowon S9 and as many know sound ALOT better than apple devices and the Nexus 4 is not far off of the Cowon S9 once again not quite as deep bass, or as crisp highs but pretty damn close. (for reference tho SGS3(int) with siyah kernal sounds the same as Cowon S9 + J3)
I noticed a much better audio then I had on my inspire through Bluetooth.
But then again my phone was 2 years old. So I was expecting as much.

I was using an iPhone 4 while I waited for my nexus, I can say the nexus sounds a thousand times better.
Testing now through Sennheiser HD 280s. Sound quality is excellent to my ears. No hiss, pops. Much better than the GS2, the DAC on that is a pile. Volume could probably be a touch louder, I'm between two and three clicks down from max volume in Google Music for regular listening volume. That may explain the low volumes with car stereos. I'll compare with an iPhone 5 later.
Ah so it wasn't just me! I did notice a difference when switching from my gs2. I use the new xb600. It sounded like crap on my gs2.

Thank you, guys! I'm very impressed with the results! Waiting for the further comparision with other devices
loving the nexus 4 but music hooked up to car stereo sounds like crap compared to the iphone 4s/5.
Output level is extremely low on the nexus as well. What needs to be at a level 20 on my wifes iphone is like a 32 on the nexus 4. Ill experiment w/ the equalizer tonight but as it stands it doesnt compare. (sorry for being unbiased)
I thought the GS3 had better sound output. My n4 just doesnt get as loud. Is there anything I can do to fix this? btw i use google music

[Q] Moto X Headphone volume too loud?

I just got my Verizon Moto X a few days ago and whenever I use my headphones, I find the volume to be very loud. In a normal setting (i.e quiet room) the volume on the lowest setting is very very loud, not quite unbearable, but very loud compared to other phones. Has anyone experienced this? and is there any app in the play store that can control this?
(I'm using the apple earpods and i'm not sure if the volume changes with different headphones)
I was just noticing the same thing today.
No, I find the phone jack to be very high quality sounding this time and have a little more power output. Either you have a defect or you are using a 16ohms earbuds or in ear monitors that are to easy to power.

No wonder it's gonna be better than a 6 year old phone.
Loving the sound from my Xiaomi Mi Piston 3 on my Oneplus 3..!
It easily tops the quality and power of the Nexus 6. My completely stock OP3 sounds just as good and loud as my rooted N6 using Viper4Android.
Not bad at all, much better than my Nexus 5X.
Sound quality is good and I was a bit worried when I got mine. Coming from a Huawei P8, which I found to be great, I have been very happy with OP3.
I use Neutron player and after I took time to disable some features and enable others, I am very pleased. Output is loud and clear makes my earbuds boom nicely. Overall, no complaints at all. Speaker volume on the other hand... not as good as I'd like.
But, headphone, for me anyway, is most important.

Ahem... I think that the Wolfson WM8994 is the audio chipset of the first Samsung galaxy ( am i right ? ) not a phone...
It has the generic Snapdragon converter. Nothing special but sound quality is decent through the h/phone out. When I had the phone I used it a couple of times with both Grado and Sennheiser cans. No real complaints, not amazing. Good enough imho.
We see here again in this thread that many people mean "loud" when they say "good quality".
Yes, the signal level on the headphone jack is quite high. This has the advantage that high-impedance headphones (i.e. "those big ones for audiophiles") work without problems with the OP3 and are loud enough; on many smartphones, this is not the case.
Furthermore, the dynamic range is really good. I.e., the difference between the quietest and the loudest parts of a recording is reproduced quite faithfully. This is also not a given on smartphones.
The actual sound quality (!) is absolutely OK but of course not on the level of more advanced DACs.
The non-audiophile listener with his usual MP3s of pop music will be completely content.

I never said it's a phone. Do I?
The Wolfson is actually the DAC which is used in The Galaxy S and there was an App called Voodoo Controller by Supercurio which enabled really undistorted and clear output.
Wolfson DACs where also used in some BMW and Mercedes by the way...
Finally mines arrived been using it for a day listening with inateck Aries earphones and I'm very impressed good amount of bass and undistorted Highs. Using viper on oxygenos. Way better than my s2 and not massively better than my oneplus one.

So the sound quality is average as for the phone? So probably big difference compared to good quality mp3 player? I was thinking if zte axon 7 has really better sound quality or just dolby, useless for music 32bit. People say it's noticeably better, but just because it has more bass or whatever, or with dolby on when it can get only worse for music.
Maybe you or anyone else knows something about sound quality, has a good headphones to check it, has some comparison to good portable audio player or decent phone.
I'm not an audiophile but I can appreciate sound quality more than others, I'm using old Cowon j3 player and it sounds really well. Have also OPO which I'm using with Spotify, but can hear sound degradation over Cowon
When it's loud, or has a lot of bass or hurting ears high tones says nothing about sound quality. I would like to know how is the soundstage, if the instruments are separate, if they are heard well not mixed up with other sounds, if the sound is flat or not, you said the dynamic range is fine, that's good.
Do anyone know what sound chip is inside OP3?
