hi guys, i start a new thread cos till now nobody could help me.
if i move/install more than (about) 50 apps on sdcard, my phone works only until shut it down.
once rebooted, it keeps rebooting (it seems to happen while scanning apps on sdcard).
only solution is, to put sdcard in pc and delete some (doesn´t matter which) .asec files from .android_secure folder.
this problem only appears in android versions higher than 2.34 and it seems to appear on other phones (not only lg) too.
please, please, does anybody has a solution or an explanation???
Which ROM are you using?
Anyway, just an idea, looks like a format problem in your card, have you tried to copy all the apps out of the card (v.g. to a PC) and reformat the card?. You can copy verything back afterwards.
Sometimes, it just happens the card is left in a funny state by an O.S. crash or by silly accidents (like pulling it out without unmonting it first).
Hope it helps.
Cheers.
NOTE: If you are copying things out, remember there might be some hidden directories in the card, set your file explorer to show them.
NOTE2: I remember having a similar problem with an old WinMo 6.5 phone, turned out my SD was a fake one not having the expected capacity.
formatting card doesn´t help.
i tried it with 4 different cards. formatted all. did fullwipe, after fullwipe, started with clear rom, installed all apps again. everytime the same: if the´re more than 50 files in android secure, phone keeps on rebooting.
at the moment i use cm9 kang3. but like i told it´s the same with every rom based on android higher than 2.34. so i tried it with miui, miui kangs, cm7, cm7kangs etc. eveytime same thing, cos they´re all based on android higher than 2.34.
these guys have the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446961
is there anyvody who have an android version higher than 2.34 and more than 50 apps on sdcard and phone doesn´t reboot???
don´t believe that.
so i think i go back to gb 2.34. but is there a rom/kernel with a ramhack, so i got 404mb free ram? and i need the cars mounted in c-style, so external sdcard is sdcard and internal is mounted as _internal..
I have more than , 230 apps, and 40% they are on sdcard.
And i dont have any problems with it.

hmmm... ok, strange. which rom do you use and how many files do you have in android_secure folder and how big is it?

hey guys,
i ve really big problems with the android_secure folder on internal sd card.
i install a lot of apps with 91 mobile pc suite direct to sd card and everything works fine.
but before i finished installing all my apps, everytime the .androoid_secure folder gets corrupted.
then market doenwload doesn´t work anymore, i can´t move apps to sd and all my apps i moved/intsalled to sd are disappeared!!!!
they are all gone!! in settings-applications- on sd- they´re still visible, but greyed out and without appsymbols.
i don´t know when exactly it happens, just everytime when i nearly finished installing all my apps, or backed them up with titanium.
sometimes it helps to rename the android_secure folder to somethig different (p.e. android_secure2), reboot, so the phone creates a new one, then move all entries from android_secure2 to android_secure and reboot again.
then the apps are back again. but sometimes it doesn´t help and i got to install all apps again (about 1,4 gb).
so i repeated this procedure about 10 times and spend more then 3 days. so i really don´t know what do do!!! can somebody help me? why the android_secure folder always gets corrupted?? is there a way to get the apps back again??
i already formatted the sd, searched for errors, used sdrescan etc...
please help.
OK here is the deal.
I have a Note with rooted stock ROM KKA and many apps (300+ probably).
This has probably led to some random reboots, sometimes it rebooted 5 times in a row, sometimes I get 10 days without a reboot.
This led me to start toying with new ROMs etc. ...but I didn't even begin.
I use Mobile Odin Pro for most of these things, so I used it to flash franco #8 kernel to have a "better" kernel for my needs (plus CWM that I didn't have up to that point - just root).
Now, maybe it is some app updates, maybe it is that I extensively move apps to SD (always using Note's own app manager), maybe that I used that kernel, but "somewhere at that point" Note reboots REALLY REALLY got worse to the point that I cannot use it.
I did change the kernel to CF-Root (which is actually like stock + CWM) for KKA, but didn't improve things.
Note boots, I get to the normal Android screen but seems that it refreshes 2-3 times until it freezes and then Note either completely reboots (I get white text "Galaxy Note" etc.) or does some kind of "soft reboot" where I get a black screen and Android normal screen with my clock etc. comes back up. Then after a while the same, even if I am doing something else (moved away from the main screen). Also not all the times I get a request for my SIM PIN (just some times), leading to believe that either radio stays "on" during that "reboot" or doesn't get initialized properly.
I've noticed that it is DIRECTLY related to my SD being in the device or not. When I remove it (with device off - of course), Note boots ok and keeps working (although lacks a tone of my apps).
I have fully surface tested the SD. It is a Samsung (I got Samsung on purpose) 32GB C10. Doesn't seem to be "hardware" related.
Since I have CWM (and root of course) is there any debugging info I could read somewhere, most probably a boot log or something that COULD lead me to the problem? It could be a misbihaving app running during boot and being on SD (although I did try not to move such apps in SD). It could be related to the kernels I tried.
I didn't plan to wipe my device before official ICS.
Unfortunately I don't have proper backup either. (misbihaving Kies - I did make a CWM backup but it was already with the problem)
Any help appreciated.
...right... all those experts, yet not even a hint...
While I can't really help with the issue ... I'd just try a different SD to make 110% sure there's no issue with the current one, although it appears to be ok.
If you think it's an app all you can do is install or remove them one by one to find the one (or more) misbehaving, you can't really expect anyone to pinpoint THE ONE with just the info "I have 300+ apps" at hand, can you ?
No, of course.
But it would help if someone could give me a way to read a log or something. It is Linux under the sheets ain't it?
Try logcat App from market or logcollector. you can also collect logs from Android commander.
Adb command to get logs
Enable USB debugging
Connect Data cable
Open command prompt and get into adb command folder
and type this command
adb shell logcat log.txt
it ll create a text file in the same folder.
Thanks for the info.
In the meantime I found out but putting all SD apps in a subfolder and putting them back in (with new reboot each time) few by few, that indeed some (few) apps create the problem. I haven't EXACTLY pinpointed yet and I am not sure if a certain... mix is to blame, but it's better to loose maybe 10 apps than have this mess.
I plan to wipe and do some more selective app instalation after ICS is officially out for Note.

Hi
Try doing the following if you have CWM recovery installed. Reboot into recovery -go to advanced, clean cache and fix permissions. That should resolve your issue.

Ash
Sorry to be late on this, but I can confirm from my own experience that after a certain number of apps transferred on SD, I got soft bootloop too.
To stop that madness, I had to boot my Note without its external microsd card, and uninstall some of the transferred apps. Thereafter I could boot even with card. But eventually I chose to keep almost all apps in internal memory, and externalize only those 2-3 which are really huge (including the Ebook update from Samsung which takes some 30 megabytes itself).

hi there, same issue here, but mine occurs even when installed on the internal sd.I had my own thread but couldn’t fined it.attached is my catlog :

didn't help,but thx anyways.
as it seems that no body is wiling to help,I'm gonna share my investigations results :
-results are the same in ICS roms.
-it seems that this happens when the number of installed goes over 100 (or something close to it) no matter in the int-sd or ext-sd.
-stock rom and kernel and clean install doesn't make any difference.
-during the media initialization phone goes extra hot and battery drains very fast.
so in conclusion I think it's either hardware related think or OS restriction...
any further help or comment is highly appreciated.
Suggestion. Move all apps first to phone. Format the card. Retain all system related apps like ROM manager, backup, memory cleaner, browser, camera etc. on phone itself. Move other apps which are likely to remain live all the time to internal sd card. Move the balance to external sd card. Thus helped with a similar problem on windows phone 7.
If the above doesn't help, try freezing batches of apps using an app like bloat freezer to zero down on the problem.
Sometimes, an erroneous movement of system cache to external card also causes this problem.

solution to your apps 2 sd move problem
See some of my previous posts by doing a search where i have referred to this problem and also the solution.
Basically the note is sh1t at moving apps to sd card. Especially after the apps count goes above hundred or so. Many times the phone software tells that the app is moved to sd card but it has been moved in a faulty manner and subsequently the phone starts reboot loops which is only solved by pulling out the sd card and deleting the affected apps which are always apps that have been moved to sd card.
Presently have 352 apps on my phone and it is working fine but this has been after many many many frustrating moments at trial and error and realising the samsung galaxy note is sh1t at moving apps to sd card and finding work arounds which are slow but work.
Your solution to the problem,
remove the auto update feature for any app on the android market or elsewhere if that app has been moved to sd card.
uninstall sd card or pull it out battery and then remove card reboot loops prevent uninstalling card. my phone sometimes went into reboot loops for 8hours at a stertch with the phone being unusable through out.
go to the application manager (from samsung and not the android one) and select from drop down list to sort apps by size and delete all apps that are shown as having a size of 4kb / 8kb / 12kb (when actual size is many times bigger)
reinstall sd card and restart phone and phone will work fine if you have deleted all apps of the sizes mentioned above.
then to prevent the problem from recurring again always manually update any apps that have been moved to sd card ONE AT A TIME other wise problem recurs without fail as this phone is **** at moving apps to sd after a hundred or so app are on phone
you can auto update any apps that have not been moved to sd
keep apps on phone if they are to do with file managers / browsers / camera apps etc
the above has been deduced by me by trial and error and months of frustration with the sh1t apps 2 sd move capabilities of this phone
DONT BATCH MOVE apps to sd using apps like app2sdmove etc as the problem will recur and move any app manually one by one if you have loads of apps
Following the above method my phone works fine now with about 352 apps but occassionally when i accidentally autoupdate a few apps together that have been moved to sd card then the problem recurs and i have to delete apps as mentioned above and reinstal then works fine. But it is a f*cking pain reinstalling many apps manually one by one but no option due to the crap capabilities of this phone for the purposes of apps2sd move.
I dont face this problem with two of my lower specced android phones
Also this phone gets internal memory errors when about 200mb is free and freezes over when about 190mb left. Where as my old htc desire with poorer hardware used to work fine even when 4-5mb free on 2.1 firmware and needed 15mb free with 2.2 firmware but the note with much better hardware struggles when 200mb is free.
Presently using my above tried and tested advice i have about 1.65gb of apps on internal memory (352 apps) and with 72 apps moved to card with rest on phone even though a further 75 can be moved to card i have opted not to move them due to the disability of this phone to move them properly without getting reboot loops and phone is working fine but lags for home button presses. Cant wait for ICS and hoping that this situation hopefully gets resolved or will have to upgrade sooner than intended originally as fed up with the apps2sd move 'disability' of this phone. I would be surprised if any other android phone had a ****tier apps 2 sd move capability like this phone has. I am pleased about the rest of the phone but the limitation is irritating as have had to repeatedly uninstall and reinstall apps. But now that i know the limitation it is a bit easier to work around as mentioned above.
Has your problem been resolved following the advice I gave yesterday?
Well the problem stopped when I moves some of the apps to a folder in SD card (so they couldn't be "seen" by the OS) until... yesterday when it started again (possibly after some app updates).
I will probably do the same (move them off to a folder and back to install position few by few) until ICS comes and I wipe my phone (and reinstall fewer apps).
BTW, wiping caches and rebuilding permisions did not help.

Try to move to SD only apps which do not start at boot and do not run in background. Works for me.

Don't bother creating folders and making apps useless etc. just follow my advice mentioned in previous posts in this and other threads and your device will work fine with more than Three hundred apps. It just works around the crap sd move capabilities of this phone. Just hope some people from Samsung see this thread as this problem is easily reproducible and predictable.

I think I do. Maybe I missed some.
If there was some easy logging on this phone I would know...

Will do. Needs time and I don't have it.
Hello All,
Suddenly have the “Couldn’t install on USB storage or SD card” problem. Quite a bit of information on the net on how to solve it, but it isnt doing it for this tablet.
I can not unmount the sdcard prior to installing/updating apps, theres simply no option for that in the setting->storage.
Second solution is to delete a file called "smdl2tmp1.asec" from one of two paths, but that file is not there.
I attached the tablet to the PC, but just see the "sdcard", not the internal memory.
I have CM10, from this forum.
Hope anyone can help me... Slowly my apps are being killed of by this problem, swiftkey and officesuite pro tried to update today, and can not even be opened anymore since...
Thanks,
Jeroen
Not sure what tab you have, but dies it have an external sd card? Internal is probably the same as sd card. It is on the i957.
God promised men that he'd put beautiful women in all corners of the world. Then he laughed and laughed and made the world round
I have the samsung 8.9 wifi tab. No external sdcard I can take out, just one that shows up as sdcard under /mnt/.
The tab is not dying on me, justn some apps show mthe error on updating them. Then afterwards those apps are not just updated, they're gone completely. I tried deleteing all dirs that I could find that seems associated with them, but the error still exists, I still get that same error on installing the app.
Thanks for replying, hope this clears up my poor description of the problem
OK, I did a full wipe and flashed CM10 and gapps, but the problem still exist. Installing apps gives me this problem... Anyone an idea?
Maybe the internal sdcard or memory is simply broke? But if so, why would the system install without problems?
Aww, my loved tab 8.9....

for whoever this is going to be useful, it turned out to be a kernel issue. Some developer confirmed it for me. so I fixed it in the end by installing a stock rom, the problem kept returning with non stock Roms...
Hello.
This is my first post.
I have seen the noob video, I know I am not special. And still:
I have searched the forums, but my problem is different. Most of the posters don't know what caused this error. I know what caused mine. I have actually unexpectedly removed the SD Card. Kind of. Funny story: transferring data (green bar on windows not loaded at all, window stuck on calculating time/finding files etc -technically no data has been transferred), windows explorer decides to go all "Not responding" on me (thank you microsoft). The genius in me tells me to unplug the phone, so I do. Yay! explorer.exe is ok now. Too bad my SD card isn't.
There are some files on it... but none of the folders that I created, so I lost everything except photos and stuff. I have backed them up on my PC. When I connect my phone (which I have to do manually by going into USB settings so that my PC recognizes anything -auto play doesn't appear anymore-), instead of showing up as my phone, it shows up as a media device with stuff on it (folders like Android, DCIM, but none of my manually created folders containing music etc.).
I repeat, I have actually unexpectedly removed my SD card.
I right clicked on the drive in the PC and clicked Format. It warned me. I didn't care, I was desperate. In just one second, it said formatting complete. No files missing, however (still those Android, DCIM etc. folders).
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 (this forum section, I think). I have flashed the I9070XXLQ4 (android 4.1.2) from Russia on it (a few weeks ago). Not root, or any custom ROM's.
Recap. I have unexpectedly removed my SD card. I want my games back. Or at least formatting it, making it usable.
Formatting the SD card from the phone settings has done it. I am a noob.
try formatting the sdcard on your phone thru the settings>storage..
re-download all your games or transfer them on the sdcard after the format.. if you have back up on your pc or other storage..
as for your pc.. try a reboot.. to correct the drivers of your phone as storage device..

Thanks, I've managed to do that before you posted (but I'm a noob and I can't edit posts so quickly). It did it. Although I was hoping not to lose everything.

is your sdcard a genuine one?.. no offense.. but there are a lot of fake sdcards in the market today..
actually i have a fake one.. its 8gb.. now, half of it is corrupted already.. my tablet hung due to it..
Hi guys.
I hope it's not the wrong thing to revive this old thread.
I was recently installing an RUU onto my phone. After the install completed, the phone restarted and it began checking the SD card again for an RUU - and it found one, as I had not by then removed/renamed it. So, after waiting for it to verify the RUU, selecting "no" to installing it, it restarted again and again it started looking for an RUU. By this time, I was getting impatient, so I tried to remove the SD card quickly before any actual data access happened.
WRONG
My SD card became RAW, inaccessible to Android or Windows. Testdisk and various free versions of paid-for undelete tools (like EaseUS) found only files from waaaaay back, before I had ever used the card in Android. As a precaution, I took two RAW copies of the full card onto two harddisks and compared the MD5 of each (match).
A little wary of the risk of using various features of testdisk, I thought the best thing to do next was a format (not quick format) to exFAT in windows and run all the undelete tools again. No results. Then I found this thread and, as suggested, tried formatting using Android. All software returned no results again.
What else can I do? The contents of the card should still be as they were (unless the formatting twice effected that). Am I correct to assume that the card (128gb) would have been formatted exFAT by Android 5/6?
In testdisk, are "superblock" or "boot" forms of recovery any relevance to me?
Thank you!
(PS: Android is working fine, I'm only having problems with the SD card contents)
Hi, I just upgraded yesterday my XT1068 to Android MM (Nexus Experience [http://goo.gl/Qc87Q7]).
And I was delighted to see the option to use my Samsung MicroSD card as internal memory. I installed all the apps I use frequently, restarted the phone and everything was fine till here.
I formatted my micro SD as internal memory, copied music, pictures and stuff using MTP to my SD, installed several apps and uninstalled some other that I didn't need anymore (Like 'Facebook Lite'). Wanted then to restart my phone to recovery mode, but it was restarting for ever and stuck with the rebooting animation, so I decided to press the power button for 3-5 sec to force shutdown the phone. But when my phone started again, everything I copied to the SD was gone, and files I removed were there again, apps like 'Facebook Lite' were mysteriously installed again as if I would have never uninstalled them.
In the launcher, all my icons and folders I organized, reverted to the positions and state I had before, last time I restarted my phone (before the forced restart when I lost the data).
What happened here? Looks somehow as if the partition table is being written back to the SD or phone memory when you are turning off the phone.. and remains in RAM during use.. Seriously?
Did such a thing happen to anybody else here? Is this how the new Android works? Every time your phone crashes or something, you'll loose all pictures and data that changed since last restart?..
Any information on this is highly appreciated.. Thanks.
similar
i have a similar situation with my sd card and my xt1063, at the beggining i choose the option which makes the sd to save files and media. today the phone turned off because the battery was empty, at the time that i tried to turn on the phone it says that the sd card need format and now when i connect the sd card to the pc it is in RAW format. i think that the new system for "initializating" sd cards is broken or something, or simply we have bad luck or else.
