[Q] sensation xl and universal androot - HTC Sensation XL

Hello, I have yet to root my phone for the first time and would like to know a few things beforehand.
1) does universal androot 1.6.1 or 1.6.2 beta5 work on xl? And will it load on startup?
2) when people mention rebooting, does this mean restarting/ turning phone on or off? Or as in resetting the phone to factory settings?
3) I'm currently using adw pro, will I need to uninstall this prior to rooting?
4) what in your opinion is the best method of rooting?
Thank you in advance.
Also (if it helps):
Android version 2.3.5
HTC sense 3.5
Software number 1.05.401.4

Never tried universal androot on this but if you follow the instructions in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341127 or my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466436
Both of those posts tell you everything you will need to know about rooting your phone
No you won't have to remove ADW to root your phone

Superuser and sense force close

I have a few questions that I cant seem to find an answer to by searching.
Over the weekend I rooted and installed Aloysius 2.1 (Btw, its awesome ) ...I am now having a few issues.
1.) I opened up DConfig and tried to disable sense and enable JIT, this causes the phone after reboot to open and forceclose sense endlessly until JIT is turned off and sense turned back on.
2.) When i open Wifi tether for root and it requests root access the SU terminal pops up and then after 30 seconds or so says its not responding. It is almost like my phone isn't rooted anymore?
....Yesterday I updated my PRL and profile, would this have removed my root and installed the .6 update?
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernel: 2.6.29-GoDmOdE
Build number: Aloysius 2.1 by Koni
Thanks in advance for any help and if I am not searching correctly and this has been answered let me know if there are some specific search terms i should use!
I know that updating the profile and PRL will not do anything with your phones software. So you are still rooted otherwise you wouldnt see superuser app
But I am experiencing this same issue and would love some direction on how to solve it.
currently running ZenEXP 0.9.6.2

Updating the PRL will not change anything for your root status. I will try to give some suggestions. However, I still consider myself a noob and I am sure if I am wrong someone will correct me.
1. In order to enable JIT you must first have another launcher besides the sense launcher. If you don't have another one it will try to load HTC Sense and will force close because JIT and sense don't work well together. So, you will want to first switch to the new launcher before opening DConfig to enable JIT. You may find this post helpful to enable JIT without using DConfig: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=659387 I found this way to work better for me than using DConfig. Never could get that oen working right.
2. I haven't heard of this one myself, but I have heard of SU popping up and remaining a black screen. In those cases it seems that going into setting>applications>manage applications and clearing the data for super user permissions seems to work for them. I have also found it helpful for force closes on other applications to boot into recovery, go to other and fix uid.
I hope these help and solve your problems. If you are still experienceing issues post back and I will try to figure out another way to possibly help out.

[Q] a little help? problems w/ Universal Androot

Hi
Having problems rooting my (old) G1. I'm following the guide on the cyanogenmod wiki:
downgraded to RC7
did the 'telnetd' thing
then it says to root using the Universal Androot method. I have set it to install non-market apks, then used appsinstaller to install Universal Androot - that went fine, I can see the icon in my apps list, but when I run it I immediately get force close (com.corner23.android.universalandroot).
I would have just given up there and tried an older method, but after googling this it does not seem common (that is to say, that this method should work) what am I doing wrong?

Actually, that guide is a little messed up. You are not supposed to downgrade and use the universal Androot method. If you are still stuck, you should probably go on with the old method. I tried the Universal and it worked great. rc7 May need to be updated to cupcake or doughnut to work. You are to far downgraded for the androot to run.
Hi Billquinn1,
Would you have any idea about the Universal Androot and Moto Droid 1 build FGR22D?

[Q] Clockwork Recovery and Sprint Software Update

I have Clockwork on my phone but when I try to install the new software from Sprint (available yesterday) it stops and goes into Clockwork Recovery mode, thus killing the installation. How do I get this update on the phone?
Good question, would love to see a answer on this aswell, i'm rooted, though still on the stock rom, but i just thought of something, might have to do with not having the stock rom, i'll have to look into that.
I heard the update is to fix the lag in the dialer app...I don't have any lag and wont be trying this out in the event it removes root.....

It does remove root. Well not so sure it removes but I know it blocks the exploit that allowed us to root using [APP] [ROOT] 1-click root for N1 (Latest ver: 1.6.2 beta 5) I root with this on my phone before the update, and tried to root my wifes with same app and it was blocked! So the new update is a little more than just a dialer fix!

[Q] Installation of Youtube unsuccessful

Hello All,
I used to be on RoDrIgUeZsTyLe MUIU rom and bunch of other custom roms. Every rom has its ones pros and cons but were not very stable. So, I thought I will go back to stock. So, I flash stock rom and stock recovery and received OTA update and installed the updates. Now my phone is on the below version.
Android Version 2.2.1
Build Number - FRG83D
Market Version - 2.12
Baseband Version - 32.26.00.28U_4.06.00.12_7
I was able to successfully download and install many apps but whenever I try to download YouTube I always get "Installation of Youtube unsuccessfull" message. Also, I researched and saw that some people in Europe on Vodafone rom are having this issue. How do I know if my android version is totally stock?
Do you guys have any ideas on how I can successfully install this app without having to root my phone again? I would like to stay stock and unrooted if possible.
Thanks.
use titanium or manually uninstall the current youtube app, reboot then try to install again. Its because its a system app currently. youll probably have to do the same for car home, street view and a few others
I am un rooted, so I won't be able to use titanium. how do I uninstall manually though? I didn't have any issues installing other apps like street view etc.
Make sure the app is installed on your phone, and unmount the SD before updating...

I tried un mounting SD card and installing and still that didn't work. Thanks for trying to help though.
Try uninstalling the old version of YouTube first.

....if you do not have root access how were you flashing an miui rom?
I was getting the exact same thing as you were, all you need to do is remove the old youtube app
good luck
Thanks for the responses. Like I said in my post I was rooted before but un rooted and went to complete stock 2.2.1. I know uninstalling youtube would resolve this issue but I am trying to find a way to uninstall the app without being rooted.

[Q] Nexus One Problems - HELP PLEASE!

Hi there,
A week ago I handed over my Nexus One to a relative so he could install gingerbread for me. He couldn't install it, and now I have an unlocked, semi-working phone (yeah, I'm not happy). I'll list the details below and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction of how to fix things myself.
- Recovery mode won't boot. The screen freezes on the multi-coloured cross.
- Wifi won't work. I get 'Error' everytime I try and activate it.
The build number is FRG83D, android v 2.2.1
Theres an applicaiton installed called 'superuser' with a pirate android icon
I've wiped everything several times, still doesn't work, and the superuser app is still there.
and PS, I'm using a mac.
I'm told theres some problem with the permissions and updates can't be installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even just a hard reset to reinstall the base operating system would be great. Just want a working phone again! cheers
Do you have root access (open a terminal emulator app and type "su". If the $ prompt changes to #, then you have root access)?
What recovery do you use? AmonRa or Clockwork?
Your best option (if you can get into the bootloader), would be to follow the unroot/restore guide in the wiki.
If you have root access, you could install ROM Manager, flash a recovery, and then use that to do whatever (probably install a fresh ROM).
