[Q] Which ROM should I flash for my mother? - Motorola Droid 3

Verizon has their 100$ off the 4g smart phones....and i want a droid 4......but alas. Im not due to upgrade untill 2013, my mom on the other hand has an upgrade ready to go.
Shes thinking about getting the droid 4 and giving it to me....and me giving her my droid 3. (she has a droid eris right now *shudders*, iv done all i could to make that phone better and its still horrible...plays netflix at 3 fps.)
So question for you guys!
Which ROM should I flash for her? I want her to have the most smooth user friendly ROM out there...that does what she needs it to do....not with ALL the bells and whistles us geeks use .
What she does mostly on the phone.
1. Email
2. Web Browsing
3. Watch Netflix (well she wants too!)
4. ACTUAL PHONE CALLS!!
5. Texting (not that often)
6. Pictures
7. Pandora (she uses that alot actually)
Maybe some convenient tweaks in the rom here and there would be nice...toggles and such. But I think mostly a light weight smooth rom would be nice ^.^. I was going to flash Liberty....but i see no support for that anymore :/
So ill take all opinions into consideration!

Mavrom!!!!!!

Mavrom definitely, or DarkDroid, if your mother fancies red.
Also, LMAO, what an unusual question!
M3 XT860
DarkDroid 1.1 (Unsafe) + Hash's ICS Beta 1 (Safe)

darkdeoid or steeldroid..ivy heard of one problems with mavrom
/Droid3

Eclipse 2.0 works well for me..only issue I had
was mobilehotspot not working..I had bluetooth issues with the Mav and Liberty roms..other than that, those were fine..my opinion

Why not stock de-bloated? It will meet all of your requirements
Sent from my XT862 using XDA App

well....i put liberty on there...cause.....I had it. Seems to be working nicely....and if anyone is curious....i wont be on the droid 3 section much longer.....getting the droid 4 ;D....got the droid 3 in october.....thats a long enough time for a new phone right?

Which two apps would you miss most?

I'm always looking to find new, wonderful apps, so, out of all the apps on your Bionic (which you've added from the market, not stock), which would you miss the most if they were to suddenly disappear from the Android world, and why?
For me:
1) FBReader (as I love reading Ebooks, and the Bionic screen is good enough to make reading on it worthwhile)
2) JuiceDefender Ultimate (WiFi control and nearly 2x battery life improvement? Yes, please)
hmm
friendcaster cause the fb app sucks
and
xda cause i love reading up on the new gadgets n mods

Pulse - what else is there for reading the news
Stitcher - Definitely helps with the long drive to work

Can I say one that was already removed?
Better Keyboard as well as all the other "Better___" apps.
They were kicked off the market cuz of some copywrite violation.
Elixir - One stop shopping for everything going on with your phone.
Caustic - Its like having Reason in your pocket! (for all you musicians)
I've heard recently that FL Studio is coming to Android very soon...can't wait!

I'd like that one back also. I bought that app and can no longer download it.

One app I miss is SNESOID. It was removed a while back and some other developers have been taking it's spot, and in some cases posting the exact same app. I still have the app, but it's a shame that the original SNES emulator for android is no longer up.

Evernote because it's the all around best note taker/organizer for what I do, and Runkeeper, because it's a great motivator and tracker and saves at least $100 as I don't faced to buy a separate device.

Tasker - without it, my smartphone feels dumb.
Springpad - better than even Evernote at keeping my life in order.
Swyped from my Droid Bionic, unless I was in landscape, in which case I Swiftkeyed the hell out of it.
DROID iris and fishing 2 go.

If we're talking root related apps that's hard, bootstrap, CWM, root explorer, and titanium backup. Non rooted apps I'd say dolphin HD and hex defense.

DroidEmu is basically the same thing, but it includes all Atari, Sega, and Nintendo systems. The UI is identical

[Q] [APP] ROM Toolbox, what do you think?

ROM Toolbox: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jrummy.liberty.toolboxpro&feature=search_result
Just wondering if any fellow Bionic owners have given ROM Toolbox a try? Is it worth the $5?
All the reviews are looking good, but haven't heard anything from Bionic owners...
It is good if your using liberty rom. Idk how it works with stock rooted or theorys rom. I used this toolbox to change my boot animation and download roms. There's also an option to download Theory's Roms but nothing pops up when chosen. The app also has built in root browser and performance tweaks to cpu and sd card. All in all I think it is worth $5.

Using it right now on Eclipse, only really use it to change fonts after moving from Liberty. The free version is enough though, the pro version is more for donating than anything else.

It works great. Its built for the Liberty ROM.
i love it with all roms. you can get rid of a couple of app and just use this one. the root browser is nice. you can create and restore nandroids back up all apps freeze apps to plus lots moe. boot animation is nice cause i like to change mine alot
I checked it out and it does what it says it does.
The good thing is that it can do all of this stuff from a central location which is really nice.
The bad is that it's $5 bucks.... though I can't say that I don't spend more than that on lunch a few days a week.
i ended up picking it up... works great on liberty so far.
I did however bootloop my bionic changing my battery icon with the Shift3r Rom. Everything worked fine at first. Then for what ever reason I restarted my phone and it went into a bootloop.
This also works completely fine on stock ROMs, fyi...
I enjoy it.

did you replace it with the same percentage icon that you already had? if you change to a different percentage like going from a 1% to a 10% incraments it will cause problems

[Q] After 6.7.2233 ICS Flash My Music/Gallery Not working

So, I flashed the ICS 6.7.2233 last night, all works well except the media functions i.e My Gallery and My Music. Suspect the database didnt update properly.
I attempted to re-flash, but the stock recovery fails. I do have a nandroid of
.905 and was wondering if the device was restored would it be possible to re-flash?
Thanks.. Eddie
Don't reflash
You end up ZFX'ing to unbrick

Read the first article on the page.
All Fixed..
Fzx'd back to stock .902 took the OTA to .905 and flashed the .2233.. This thing ROCK's. It's like having a new phone. Have been running it for 2 days without any issues. Faster, Cleaner and so far it all works.
Rooted with no issues..
Best, Eddie
I got the files from Droidhive
Droidhive
I agree! It is like having a new phone! Literally all aspect performance, visual, and experience is better. And i got a 2900 on benchmark without root.

I have to agree. I put the leak on my droid 4 and still had data issues. Would lose signal and not come back until reboot. Soon as i got this bionic i went straight to ics 2233 leak. This phone is amazing running ics. Flawless connectivity, responsive as hell and just straight up eye candy lol
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Glad you resolved your issue! This ICS does rock! I havent put my phone down yet, and yeah its like a whole new phone! This is how the bionic should have been out the box!.... lol
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda app-developers app
The only issue i still have after first flashing the ics leak is the speech to text does not respond.....it'll work for the google search bar but not in the text messaging. Has anyone else notice this?

Question about ICS for Bionic

Sorry if this has been mentioned already but my search didn't find any results. I am just wondering if adobe flash is compatible with ICS on the bionic. With adobe giving up on mobile flash, I'm hesitant about upgrading to ICS because having flash is important to me for watching online videos. I understand many video sites are going towards html5, but not all of them are. If anyone could confirm if flash is working or not on the leaks, it would be appreciated.

I know that Adobe Flash will still install from the market so I would assume any browser needing flash will work. Although the Chrome browser does not use flash. Also, YouTube works fine.

Flash is hit or miss. I didn't have any problems on the early ICS leaks, but a lot of people did. I'm on 235 now, and I can watch flash but not in full screen mode.
Flash doesn't work at all for me after updating but some people claim that factory resetting fixes it, I haven't tried myself. I'm also still on 229 so functionality may have changed in the newer versions.
Thanks for the help guys. That kind of sucks. I hope google wakes up and releases some version of flash.

That's not going to happen. Google has been one of the leaders in the push for HTML5 which makes flash obsolete.
As an FYI, 238 is out. Samuri has a link at DF.

Until justin.tv stops using flash, it won't be obsolete to me lol. It's the only place I have where I can go to bed watching old school episodes of the Simpsons without having to put one of my DVDs in.

.232 no colbert or daily shows will play which really bums me out. ive found more videos that dont work than ones that do. tried most browsers. desktop mode on dolphin used to be awesome

Stay on .905

I am planning to upgrade to a new phone by year's end. Is it worth while to flash to. 232 just to be on ICS? Does it perform better than eclipse 3.0? I suppose that I have to reroot afterwards?,
I've been running since it came out and its like night and day compared to stock blurred gingerbread. You don't need to re root just use voodoo ota root keeper from the play store to back up su binary then update to 232 and restore su binary. Motorola did a nice job with blur in ics. Its very close to a stock aosp experience. Also you can use safe strap to flash versions of cm9 and aokp for the ics leaks, which are fully functional. I definitely think its worth it. Once the ota comes out, its easy to fxz back to 905 and take the ota.

I didn't like ICS due to adobe discontinuing Mobile flash. I use my phone to watch online videos and hook it up to the tv so I'm pretty disappointed with their decision. I understand the whole html5 argument, but html5 is still a few years from becoming standard. I don't see it happening until html5 has developmental tools similar to what flash has.

I did not think to consider that. Thanks.

I'm running ICS Leak 6.7.230 and Flash works perfectly. I don't know what there is to be concerned about.
How do the ICS leaks compare to Eclipse 3 in terms of wireless reception and battery life?
Just kill the cat already and try it? not as if you can't FXZ and nand restore.

Isn't Flash not available from the play store, for those who migrate to ICS leaked ROMs?
Flash was removed a few weeks ago from Google play. If you have the direct link, you can access it, but it won't come up in a search and it wasn't showing under my apps for me. I do a lot of online video with my phone so flash is necessary. Thanks to the HDMI port, I hook it up to the tv at night and turn on some justin.tv, whom is full of crap in their reasons why they don't have a streaming app for Android, even though another developer had an unofficial one.

As for Flash. It will not work in Chrome for me. It does however work in the built in browser and possibly Opera.
It won't work with chrome, but it also wouldn't work in Firefox, dolphin, or the stock browser for me. The closest I was able to get it working was being able to hear the audio but not seeing the video.

Thats odd. Installed the flash player, opened the stock browser and works great on .232

With the same ROM, why are there variations in fucntionality of Flash?
My guess would be is the same reason some bionics on the leak are clocked at 1.2mhz while others are only 1. I don't think anyone knows, its just the way it is unfortunately.
