Hey guys,
This is highly off-topic, but I've been here a while so I figured I'd give my brethren a chance to take part in a new contest. There is a new game coming out this year called "Firefall." Some of you may have heard of it, most of you haven't. It's a PC game currently in beta stages that aims to be the best MMOFPS since Tribes. Red 5 Studios, the developers of the game, are running a contest to promote the game and give us gamers a chance to win some prizes. The contest page can be found HERE.
Basically, using the clips and music provided you must create a trailer showcasing your preferred class. I've seen all the entries and I strongly believe that our smart members here at XDA can beat out the competition in a matter of hours. I personally made mine in a day and I've got a good chance of winning the grand prize.
As for what the prizes are, well I'm glad you asked.
First prize: All expense paid trip to PAX 2012 for you and a friend with a 3 Day/Night stay at a fancy hotel, paid airfare, and $500 spending cash.
Second prize: A brand new Alienware M14x with a quad core i7 (2600x), 4 GBs of RAM, and a GeForce 553m with 3 GBs of VRAM.
Third prize: A custom branded Astro A40 gaming headset.
If you're like me and have an outdated laptop that moreso resembles a toaster oven than a PC, you might want to take a shot at making a video and upgrade that mess to a shiny new Alienware.
For reference, here is my trailer I made. Feel free to like the video to promote an XDA member winning the competition, or make your own and give me a run for my money .

Details:
Directed by The Purchase Brothers.
The Escape From City 17 short film series is an adaptation based on the Half Life computer game saga by Valve Corporation. Originally envisioned as a project to test out numerous post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series. Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500.
Additional Notes:
Valve flew the team out to Seattle last year, and the brothers have been in communication with them since.
Derek Chan, and Ian Purchase are the two resistance fighters.
David and Ian Purchase are commercial directors represented by Sons and Daughters in Toronto. They are working on an unannounced feature film. Not HL related.
They have been huge fans of HL since the days of "ivan the space biker'
So, is this a trailer movie?
Or a new game will come soon?
I love Half life game!!
Updated original post with the additional info from the youtube page, amazing work.
I think is a new game coming soon

Indeed, a new game is in the works but this is purely a fan-made production. They sent this to Valve without prior notice and have been working with Valve since. Amazing usage of CG and even home-made outfits. The used to Valve/Source SDK and abused it.
One of the best CG creations I have ever seen other than the Elephants Dream 9 minute short made overseas all open source. (HL 2 thing isn't open source but check out Elephants Dream)

I'd post this in the XOOM, Transformer, Iconia, NI Adam, GTab 10.1, etc. areas, too, since there aren't that many out there with Streak 7s, but there are a lot with Tegra2 devices.
I'd love to see them develop some more for Android, but their asking price is just too damned high (said int he voice of that "The rent is too damned high" guy). $15 for a game is a hard sell on mobile, even if it is a great one. Gameloft, Gamevil, etc. are selling for $2-5. $15 better blow my freakin' mind. If they had sold GoF2 for even $7, I might have impulse purchased it; $15, though, would get me 3+ games from another developer.
I agree the price tag is high in the way of mobile gaming which is a shame I personally played the whole game via the pirated one and bought the game out of principle cause its just a damn good game and retardedly addictive so when I say the game is worth it I mean it
Hell I pay 60 dollars per consol game and this game heres quality is just amazing
I appreciate you helping posting threads i figure enough of us makes a stink then it will help motivate them to develop for android devices that support it currently and do not currently support it

To be clear, I was suggesting posting in those forums; I wasn't volunteering!
Hi everybody. Me, my school, and a new start-up company called Froovie are working together to raise money. 60% will go to my school's digital media department, and 40% to the company. Also before I lose any ones interest all you have to do is watch a two minute video (or a couple of them) then vote on them, preferably mine. That's it. Heres the video I submitted: Mod edit: Link removed.
Here are the specifics to it:
The company:
Froovie is a new startup company that is focused on fundraiser for digital media classes, but can be used for other fundraisers also. It is currently in closed beta, and my school is using it and helping them fix the bugs because the founder knows our principal (private school). Basically you have people compete in a contest for a prize set by the school. Each contestant whether a group or individual will create a 2 minute video under the rules set by the school. They will then be able to share the video (as I am now) for people to vote. Each vote does cost $1, but you dont need unhealthy candy, or some product youll never use and can support a good cause. Each vote will then be split 60/40 profit between the nonprofit organiztion/school, and Froovie. Then whoever has the most votes gets whatever prize the organization the is using their services promised beforehand.
Why my school could use the money:
We are using the money to upgrade our media hardware and software. We have on Mac pro (I believe 2007) that works decent and only a few software generation behind, and then we have 8 10 year old Imacs where the best one is a dual core 1GHZ processor, 1GB of RAM, and 80 GB hard drive. We also have a go pro we just got, and a good sony camera. Obviously we cant do any video editing, and barely any photo editing on those computers. We are trying to upgrade the Mac Pro, and buy two new iMac 2012s (high end 21" version), and get adobe premiere pro on all of them, and use our own personal cameras. We currently do most of our editing on our home computers using about three different programs in our spare time, which is not that productive. Half the class has recently got premiere pro at home, or had it for the transition. We will use this hardware and software to put stuff in our newspaper, gazette, and yearbook for photography. Also for video we have a homeroom show we put out as often as we can about the latest stuff going around school, some comedy, and tips for the years, which is enjoyed by students and staff alike. We also do the videos for the jog a thon fundraiser which supports ALL school clubs, and several sports. We also make the videos for the homecoming and prom court, for rallies, and want to work on a promo video for the school. We also switched from loudspeaker announcements to daily video announcements on the school website. In the past we have also raised money for the school and got some of the seniors part time jobs by making commercials for local companies and such because we become proficient with our equipment.
what it does by voting for me:
It gives me, and the actors in my video the importunity to win a small scholarship if we win, and looks good on college applications (with a 98% college rate within a year after graduation we can create more stuff that colleges like). It will also allow us to make more videos and enter more contest when outside the class. Also as part of the prize I will be able to get these $70 dual turntables ive been wanting to get for djing as a summer job (I know several local big djs), and could possibly make free DJ mixes for anyone who votes and helps me get my career in media production and entertainment off the ground with the final pieces of hardware I need in class, and out of class.
How it benefits you:
besides helping out a good cause that helps us keep our class, provide people with better college transcripts, and possibly get a job in the future, you get to help a tech start-up get off the ground, and if we win get a free DJ mix! Some of us might even make some of your favorite youtube videos in the near future, and maybe be part of making your favorite big movie! You also get to make several dozen people's lives happier by watching a quick video and donating $1, or more (you choose how much, forgot to say that).
Other stuff that benefits us:
Others ways to help us even if you cant spend and extra $1 (which everyone has, even for someone you don't know who is a struggling student) is by reviewing our videos here and telling us what you think and how we can get better. We only had about two weeks to make these videos and edit them, and half of them are our first time editing! We have all filmed things, controlled lighting, and acted. But we have never had all of us edit or direct something by ourselves and either tell our friends what to do, or have other people in our class act for us. Another thing you can do is tell is if you find any bugs in the system, since I have direct contact with the founder, and some of their representatives. You can also tell us what new features the company can add to their site since we are basically an outside consultant!
Also if there is anything confusing, or anything I can make easier to understand please tell me. Also, if you don't want to vote for any of our videos, please tell us so we can make everything we do better as much as we can.
TL;DR..
Self promotion, advertising, etc etc etc are not allowed....
It may be fir good cause, But its not allowed in xda AFAIK..
Please read the rules first...

You should all look at this AJ Lee's "Bombshell" here and if you had been a fan of wrestling you should know that her's and CM Punk similarities are not just that they are in real-life couple.
They made a point where Wrestling isn't what it is used to be and I have to agree with that in terms that WWE since 2000's had been getting away from physical action, to stars that can sell a story on which Vince McMahon calls it Sport Entertainment, but since a few years ago, the tast has become that instead of a wrestling promotion, it has been converted to a circus.
Really unfortunate and this is coming from a guy that since early childhood had seend the hardcore side of the Bushwalkers know in that gimmick as the New Zealand Shepherds for taking a example.
I guess that to stand my point, look to all 80 to mid 90's video library and not just from WWE, look at least WCW, ECW and a few NWA's and you should see my point.
We already have a sports thread, please use that

When I say modding I mean modding the cash in the game like 999999$ so that you don't have to use the real money to buy that game cash
My questions are
1)Are we doing any injustice to the developer by doing so ?
2)Do big game developers like Gameloft and EA care about it ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
Of course its unjustice and unfair to the developers! Suppose you are the dev, will you feel angry?
Sec question... i think they will because they need to care about fairness among players too because cheat is bad behaviour in games
Just opinions
I consider it theft, personally. I know the bigger companies have less concern about it, as it's actually free advertising for them as it gets more people to play the game that previously would not have done. Swings and roundabout there, but I still do not agree with it.
Obviously this is a forum for developers, so you'll not get many people that believe it's acceptable behaviour. And please remember that if this discussion goes even vaguely towards "how" to do anything like this then it will be gone. It's dodgy subject matter, but it's cool for now.
It depends.
Some games are so blatantly about milking the user for all they're worth. EA and Gameloft are excellent examples.
Take the new Rollercoaster game. It's free, but every attraction and shop you want to build, you have to buy. So the game is unplayable unless you spend hundreds of bucks on it. In these cases, I fully understand why people hack the game.
I find the milking especially distasteful in games aimed at little children. The developers are clearly hoping the parents forgot to secure the account enough so that the kids can spend hundreds on in-app purchases, with no way for a refund. There are some in which you have to pay 10-20 quid for a few coins or diamonds or such, which you can't not buy if you want to keep playing, and they're used up within an hour. That's a classic scam.
In other cases, like the DualBoot wallpapers, I disprove of the use of hacks. In those cases you spend 99 cent for a whole pack of extra's for the wallpaper.
Unethical? No. Illegal? Depends on your local laws.

Couldn't agree more

I think this whole issue could be put to rest if game developers would just charge a fair flat fee for a game, as opposed to trying to rape you level by level as you play.
One of my fav games is Celeris Virtual pool. It first came out for windows mobile phones years back for about $20. It's now only about $4 on google play, and I'm still enjoying it . Didn't mind spending the $4, but if the game tried to charge for each individual match................ That would be a different story, and I'd be inclined to torrent a patch. My point is that in the long run I think game devevlopers would make more money and keep customers happier by charging a reasonable flat fee.
(just my 2 cents)
Agreed
