If you can hear people but they can't hear you, then it's the MICROPHONE, not the speaker.
I don't know if there's any tutorial about how to take apart the OB and replace the MIC, you could try searching for "Optimus Black replace mic" or something like that.
The best thing would be to take it to a phone service, they are better equipped to replace/repair your phone's components.
Btw, the MIC might not even be broken, i had a SE k800 that had problems with the mic, took it to a service and they found that the mic moved a little and didn't make contact with the board in the phone, they simply positioned it correctly and after that the phone worked without problems

Hi everyone, I have just recently had my screen replaced on my xda IIi which now works fine but unfortunatly now there is no sound? is it possible to dislodge the speaker when replacing the screen or is this something that cant happen easily - any thoughts will be helpfull before I take it back, I dont want to be mugged for a speaker if at all possible, thanks.
re
its possible that the speaker got out of its place when the screen was being put in place..or its not properly connected to the board...if you could risk it..you can jus open it up and check for yourself..it isnt that difficult..ive been doing ti for like a 100times..n my xda2i still works perfect...i dnt think its a big problem and can easily be fixed..just give it a try

Hi folks,
Just got my 2X today, done the first charge and having a play.
Just had my first call on the phone and the person on the other end sounded very muffled... anyone else had experience of this or any ideas how I could fix it?
Might have to send it back for a replacement otherwise as its awful... actually sounded not too bad on speaker, just not good in the ear piece. Even my ancient HTC Hero put it to shame in sound quality in a call.
G
check this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996892). I have the same problem.
Thanks mate, just posted on your thread.
Can someone delete this thread please
hi was talking on the phone and all of a sudden i cant hear the other person.
However if i put the call on loud speaker i can hear the person on the phone.
So i tried changing the roms from tonys t build to pac rom, that didnt work so nvflashed the phone with progmaq nvflash and mic still aint working.
Unless someone can resolve my issue through a software change, am i able to repair this speaker? and if so roughly a cost and where (if in england) would be helpful.
Or is the phone best to be scraped or given to the kids to play with?
have you tried a headset??
the one that came with the phone....

Good idea mate
Just tried it and the sound works through headset so its 100% the top speaker has stopped working
Massive shame as with Tony's ROM the phones great
Looks like I will throw the phone away and just find a new one... Any suggestions?
Don't want s4 as I will break it in seconds build quality is crap.
Maybe a HTC one or Sony experia z?

I had the same problem, i think your ear speaker, not the LOUD ONE, the internal, is bad, try sending it to repair. mine was like yours, tech replaced the speaker and all was ok

hello,i live in mexico and i bought one HTC One and i unlocked it with the help from other threads on the forum.
the problem is that i dropped my device and now the people can't hear me when i make calls, also when i record videos i don't get any sound
or when it records something for soundhound sounds mute.
i would like to know what piece should i buy(maybe if someone could post a link to it )
i can't get the guarantee here in mexico and the people that could repair it says that i would cost me $130DLS for the piece and the installation.
i suppose it's the microphone but i don't know if this piece could solve the problem.

if the repair person can promise your device wont get damaged from the repair( these phones from what ive read, are next to impossible to open without destroying the housing or worse!) that may be an ok option if you cant use it. Or if you are capable find the part you need, buy a replacement housing, jump on youtube and fix it yourself. I think the housings are $35 usd on amazon. good luck!
I got the phone new monday
I've done testing and I have no sound on the main microphone
It just replays recorded noise
Is it hardware or is there a known fix to this issue ?
thanks
If it's a new phone, you should probably just return it and ask for another... Someone on a finnish forum was complaining about the same issue of microphone not working and said that he got a new phone from the store and the problem was gone.
Maybe Sony has had a bad batch?
Hello! I have the same problem...
Does anybody know if is a software of hardware issue?
If you bought a new phone from a store, why not just return it and ask for a new one? If it's defected from start, I wouldn't try to fix it myself but demand a working one.
Can't do it. bought it new from someone
Is somebody that solved this issue? VHollund?

That someone should have a warranty
In my case I bought it from internet store in france and we have 14 day retraction right + 2 years warranty, so I send it back
It was not a software problem
You can test the microphone by going into the systems settings on the phone
If you have no warranty, you can use a head set which is what I do most of the time anyway not to get my brain fryed
It will stil work on speaker sphone where the 2nd microphone is on
Some developers might be able to help you hack it to use only the 2nd mic
I've seen inconclusive threads about it

ok, thank you! I will try to send it in a service to replace the microphone
I have discovered that Sony put some rubber over the microphone and that's why it wouldn't work The microphone is fine

I recommend you go in a service to get it dissasembled. Thatrubber you just get it off and put in with the hole over the mic hole, not covering it. But if you have warranty i reccomend you get one new
If you do this you will void your warranty and it will not be water ressistant anymore
It took more than a month from the order but i received a new one yesterday and it has passed the tests
It seems to be a great little phone, I just wish the camera was better
It's very grainy and my 2016 samsung A3 took better pictures with only 13M rear camera
Decided to stay on Oreo for now since Pie does'nt seem to fix the grainyness
