I was hoping someone could quickly explain these settings for me as I'm not 100% sure of their purpose and I can't find a definition on these exact settings anywhere on here on the net at all! (can only find pulse notifications which is easy and not applicable here)
So two things: in a program like NSTOOLS there is CMLED section and has LED timeout and typically the default is around 1600 seconds..can be 0 to 1800...what exactly does this do and relate to?
and the other is a setting on some rom specific settings and under LED settings has Pulse ON duration and Pulse OFF duration. my default is .5 seconds for ON and 9 seconds for OFF...both have range of 0 to 10 seconds...once again what exactly does this do?
if someone could explain, that would be greatly appreciated! thanks
Those are for led notifications...the captivate does not have one...superfluous settings are not uncommon from ported roms..
Remember none of the ics roms are actually captivate firmware.

led timeout means after how much time led will go off after touching 1600 means 1.6 second 1800 means 1.8 second and zero means no led
Edit:- zero means led remains on for unlimited time
led notification means when device receive notification then led light will blink for the given time it should be set as 2 second for on and 1 second for off for real blinking

Thanks again Studacris.. I knew this phone does have or can use led notifications but wasn't sure if these other settings applied to that or not...now I known.thanks. and the led timeout setting was explained beautifully in other reply...so got it
Maybe one of u could explain "CRT off animations" can't find out what this is?

Hello,
i want to use the led light for an incomming sms more than 5 min. In the setting i´m not able to select the remember box (is not enable) i only can see that the time is set to 5 min.
I want that the led flash for 60 min.
Any ideas ?
Daniel
Daniel, I did manage to find it in the registry, to make it flash "no limit" the value was zero, the default value was 5000 (5000 milliseconds=5 seconds) so the value will be 60000 for 1 hour. My phone is doing a ROM update right now, so I will have to post after I search through the registry again. Try usingt PHM Regedit to search for "Flash" and keep clicking "find next" until you find it. I will post the reg key later.
Hello sasha26
i used TC and i only found two entry with FLASH.
The values are not for the flashing signal (one for camera?)
Daniel
I found the entrys
HKCU/ControlPanel/Notification/{A877......} (one entry for each notification)
if found the duration for new SMS / new MMS .... and more. Set the duration from 5 to 60 - restart.
now in the windows setting the value from 60 is in the field.
Daniel
led
but...
when i've an incoming sms the only led lighting is the circular one...
the up led in speaker phone when works?
OKAY this is wierd!
I didnt realize that the Diamond had a LED light!
I have had mine for a week now a didnt discover it was missing!
Can someone post the reg settings for the different values!
AFAIK there is only the circular light around the center button.
I think the "LED" you're referring to is the ambient light sensor next to the speaker?
When I set the duration to 0 - would it light on until I'd read the message?

Hello,
i found several entrys in
HKCU/ControlPanel/Notification/
for each entry in the listbox from "Windows - Settings - Sound - Notification".
I have a German Rom so i don´t know if the numbers in the {} the same as in the US / GB Rom.
But it is easy to find, in the entry you also find the text e.g. "New SMS".
I only set the entry in Duration from 5 to 60. In the Windows-Setting now 60Min appears.
Daniel
Is it possible to make the light be active for more then 60 minutes?
How about 120, or unlimited? (untill you have read the SMS)
Are you sure? I think the battery will not be happy eheheh
bye

You could always try. 1440 for instance, that's 24hrs
more than 60 does not display, anyone an idea what happening about this ?
0= unlimited. If you look in settings after setting the reg to 0, it will show unlimited.
thanks for this tip
could not find the actual key to change....
unlimited does not work, the led goes off after 1 min.
anyone an idea ?

I have change to 120 - now i testing - 30min ago and wait
edit:
after 40min flash stoped ?!?
Thanks Matt....what value / line in the registry are you changing
[edit]
Thanks All....
After reading this thread at least six times decided to read again but carefully......
Have seen the light and the keys that needed changing...again many thanks.
Have set to 60
Testing missed call...set to 60.....shows in settings notification
good after 5 min then 30 min ......
will advise if reach 60 min.
has stoped at 50 minutes.....not sure why...
hmm, the right thing to do is to actual unlock this feature like it's meant to be, I wander why they greyed it, possibly they were so paranoid and afraid of battery life so they turned everything they can come for...
so, to sum it up, 0 in settings doesn't work and max available flashing is around 50 min.? For both missed calls and sms's?
EDIT:
Just found it. You have to change AvailableOptions to 12 instead of 11. This will ungray drop down menu just like it should be.
First off, I apologize to anyone who looks at this thread thinking that I am posting another screen brightness program. On the contrary I am LOOKING for a program that will allow us to control the brightness level of the phone in small increments.
Before the Fuze I had the HTC Touch which on the homescreen had the option of pressing the brightness shortcut and it would jump the brightness up a notch and then reset down to the lowest value once it got to the highest. Anyone that had this phone or a similar HTC phone that ran..... HTC Home knows what I am talking about.
While using the fuze I have always wondered why I couldn't find anything like this for newer phones. Searching for the longest times on a number of different forums left me with nothing. The automatic screen brightness control of the touch pro is less then desirable. There's times when my phones plugged in but I'm reading news in bed and I want to be able to have the brightness set to low without having to go through the settings and bugger around with it all.
That said, does anyone know of something that will do this? Or is it possible for one of the awesome program developers here to create something like this?
Here's a screen shot just for referance. By pressing the lightbulb it would change the screen brightness of the phone.
Here's the app you're looking for:

BTW, when you post an app request add "[REQ]" in topic...
you Might also want to try Lumos: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=450318&highlight=lumos
this automatically adjusts your backlight depending on your light meter. It has a very quick and easy setup wizard and works wonders on your battery as well!

Just slide your finger along the notification bar.
app called "brightness level"
set to 0%
Interested in this as well.
I think we are actually looking for something lower than 0%
It is probably the amoled screen vs backlit one, the way they operate. 20% on lcd is much lower than 0% on amoled.
Maybe there is some kind of overlay that can act as Rayban? Like ie when you do Titanium backup, you can see the rest of the application being much darker than the notification that pops up. Probably some overlay being used.
Maybe some of you asking yourself why, but try using it in complete darkness for awhile and you'll see what I mean.

Thats what i mean like a torch in the night.
I had tested all brightness apps in market but no one goes lower.
Thanks for help.
Mybe a dev or supercurio can help to explain
Yes, the lowest stock level is already quite bright, too bright of course for night use in bed.
You'll also notice that the colors & contrast looks quite dull on the lowest stock brightness settings, with a color deviation in the red shadow colors.
With the revamped Voodoo color which will be released step by step during the next weeks, you'll be able to go so "dark" (if chosen) that you'll be almost not able to see it in the dark even when on
All that, preserving color accuracy and color temperature (which goes more red when you lower the brightness on stock)

hi
is there any way to disable the led of the hardware buttons. i know where the buttons are. i dont need a light to find them. and it looks ugly when they light up. after i used them i always wait to touch the screen until they are off.
I think neldar knows the most about this since he has done the backlight notifications mod. It would be super to have an option in the recovery to disable backlight in the buttons. They are annoying at night when using Screen filter to dim the screen, buttons are very bright in contrast to the screen.
Agreed. I would love to be able to switch them off.
Yes this is true and really anoying!
At night they are much to bright. Would love a "disable" option, too.
Is it maybe possible to dimm the buttons, too?? This would really be awesome
ok, i'm not the only one who wants that leds switched off. but isn't there anyone who has an idea how to do that
Anyone figured this out yet?
i found an app in the market called“ leds hack“. it supports samsung vibrant, but it dont works on my phone. isnt it the us-name for the sgs? maybe the rom is the problem. i'm on darkys 9.3
i tryed to find the script that controls the backlight. here: stackoverflow.com/questions/4152053/android-turn-off-key-lights i found this info:
A: The keyboard backlight can be controlled via /sys/class/leds/ keyboard-backlight/brightness. It appears that it's a simple on-off control (echoing '0' turns it off, echoing '1' or higher turns it on). For some reason, the default system backlight control stuff seems to set this to "83", but I don't know why. I can't seem to see any difference between 83 and any other number. The file is readable by anyone, but only writable by root, so you'll need root access to the phone to manipulate it this way.
can anyone tell me where i can find the file on my phone...
Has anyone found the answer?
This is honestly something that I would even pay for if a dev wanted to create a little app or mod that could do this quickly and easily for those that are not confident to make these changes on their own.
No one? :/

this doesnt exist on our android.
There is is /sys/devices/virtual/misc/melfas_touchkey/brightness
you can do
echo '1' > /sys/devices/virtual/misc/melfas_touchkey/brightness
to turn it on, but i have not found a way to turn it off permanently
Can some one bind this to light sensor? So that we can have it disabled during day and have it enabled at night??
how can i edit this files? i cant find an editor or something like that. i'd like to play around with this script?

I don't have the folder /leds. What version of android do you have?
I found this. As a new user, I can't send links to the forum, I paste the important part:
Samsung GT-I9000
s3c-keypad
- scancode = 26 (confirmed with keylayout/s3c-keypad.kl)
/sys/class/backlight/s5p_bl/brightness
drivers/input/keyboard/s3c-keypad.c
drivers/video/backlight/backlight.c
- brightness and actual_brightness 's get/set method. (actual_brightness is read only)
drivers/video/samsung/s3cfb_tl2796.c
- Samsung's implementation. MIN_BL = 30. Lower than this == black out.
Could it be useful?
Thanks
Okay I know everyone knows that their Droid 3 has a LED notification light, but if anyone can answer this question, help me out. Does the modification of the LED flash speed and when the light is on (meaning its on while the screen is on) require some type of custom kernel, or just a custom ROM. I've tried multiple LED notifcation apps, and none of them can change the flash rate (even though I set it to different values). I would like to get to the point of adjusting the flash rate, and make it so more important notifications light up all the time (like the 10% battery notification) but I have no idea how to change this. Thanks to anyone that can help me out or at least lead me in the right direction.

I would assume that they're just not compatible. When I get a mention with Tweetdeck I get a yellow light, and a blue one with Plume so I would think if a color could be changed, so could the blink rate.
I have this app called "Light flow - LED control". It basically lets you change the colour of the notification LED for each individual app, as well as setting the blink duration (not blink rate, unfortuately). It does, however, require root. Try the lite version to see if it is what you are looking for.
There is another app that allow you to set blink rate, which is called "Blink - Flash LED in your way". It didn't work as expected for me but I didn't play about with it much.
Hope that helps.

i dont think it requires root. i had it on my phone before i was rooted for the same reasons but i couldn't get it to work with gosms (i would have to disable gosms from blocking other notification apps and that messed up the sms timestamp for some reason) but it's a good app in general. our phones get most of the colors though i could never get the light to stay on for low battery.
all in all i think its a cool app but won't provide what you're looking for.
I have used light flow before, and the color support is fine. You can 'change' the flash rate on light flow, but it doesn't actually change the rate, im guessing there's some kind of software, or possibly a hardware restriction.. I've been looking around all of my system files and can't find anything related to the LED. Let me know if you find anything guys.
It is a software problem. CM7 did work better v
