[Q] [CM7]Boot loop after flashing kernel - LG Optimus Black

Hey guys. I just rooted, flashed a new ROM ( newest CM7) onto my p970 last night, so yeah, I'm a total newb and so much confused about these things. Apparently I saw a thread about kernels and that they kinda improve performances and stuff, so I tried installing them. And now my phone is in boot loop state and I can't boot CWM to reflash the original kernel. I used Huexxx's kernel from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332311
So I'd be really grateful if someone could link a thread on how to fix this, or a step by step guide. And I'm totally new to this forum so I'd like to apologize beforehand if I break any forum rules and the likes. Thx.

* nvm, I somehow was able to boot into CWM from the boot screen and then I just reflashed the current ROM. Thx btw

What has happened to you device? Bootloop? DO this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275315 AND READ my NOOBGUIDE!
You have to flash a new software, root it, install CWM and then reflash CM7 WITHOUT KERNEL! There is none working at this time. Although Nova 12 is planed for it
-edit- woops read your edit too late...

Thx bro

| Thx for the reply, really appreciate it. Man there are a lot o' things I need to learn

| btw, if you don't mind answering, it seems that the phone gets real laggy after a an hour or so of turning it on. I've checked the apps and made sure that none are eating up the phone's memory. Is it just me or does it has something to do with CM7?

Hope you dont use any memory cleaner or other "tuning" software, since this mostly only messes the phones up... Mine runs fine, so I guess it is a problem on your side. I always recommend fix permission from within RomManager, cause it often solves/solved problems. I also always move all apps to SD card, inside of App Manager (the stock one, not anyone from market) cause it saves space and resources for the phone.
Did you mess around with cyanogen settings? Which governor do you use? Maybe use SetCPU or NoFrills or similar? If so, uninstall it.
Simply list all your apps, if none of the given tips helped And do a reboot all couple days, since it seems to be good for the phone

[Q]CF Root, how dangerous is the lagfix?

Hi,
I recently downloaded and flashed the CF Root Kernel v2.9.
I'm running an Android 2.3.3 ROM (Lite'ning rom v4.2).
Now I have been hearing things about how the Lagfix on the CF Root kernel is potentially dangerous. Apparently it corrupts your system when you disable it and switch to another kernel.
I am wondering how true all of this info is and if there would be any danger in flashing to another Kernel/an update of the CF Root kernel.
Any help would be appreciated,
Hobo
PS: Had to post here as I need 10 or more posts to get access to the Development forums...
Me too...I already have 6 post ...now 7
About the lagfix..why you need it for Android 2.3.3??? I think this version already running on Ext4 or I am wrong???

1. where did you hear that the CF Root kernel is dangerous? Links please
2. apart from the fact that the stock kernel from gingerbread has already ext4 support means all hacked kernels should have it too, and also apart from the fact that CF has a nice tool to convert back easily.
If you are already on a custom kernel and you wanna experiment more, you do know you can backup right?
hmm, am interested on what you mean with the breaking system? you mean fs? or it breaks something else?

1) I heard it on a forum for Dutch Android users, Androidworld. More specifically on the Lite'ning rom topic, I can't post a link (see edit) but since all posts are in Dutch I'm not sure it would be helpful for you.
2) Yes I know I can back up, I have everything backed up. Just a bit worried about my phone not working for pre-longed periods or having to go to a Samsung repair point.
3) From what I gather the problem is that when you convert to Ext4 (or convert back) it doesn't completely overwrite the /system/ which makes it so that if you decide to switch to another Kernel it becomes impossible to activate the lagfix and you might get the warning your system is corrupt.
Most of the posts link to an old topic of Supercurio and Voodoo about lagfix corruption (can't find the link right now...)
The problem seems to be solved after reflashing a new ROM with repartition.
/edit: "To prevent spam to the forums, ALL new users are not permitted to post outside links in their messages. After approximately eight posts, you will be able to post outside links. Thanks for understanding!"
So the link isn't a hyperlink.
Well I kinda wouldnt call it a lagfix now. I mean its a switch to another fs.
And I think you got the fixing part about reflashing right. So if you have a backup (also go with titanium on this one) . If you reflash you get your system back in a jiffy. I mean its like 30 mins reflash and initial setup right? And then 15 mins to get the backup online (just to scare you a little and to save my ass from being kicked, if something goes wrong somewhere along the line you have been warned that this can do something bad to your system in a 0.1 percent chance)
Anyway first thing you can do is to reflash to the version 3 of CF
Which kernel are you interested flashing to? (oh and one thing if your rom came preinstalled with busy box and you didnt unistall it and flashed CF on top of it, you can have some trouble)
I thought Lagfix pretty much ment that... Shows how much I know about all of the terms
I was probably going to go back to the Hacked Supercurio kernel.
I am not sure if the ROM came pre-installed with busybox but I assume it was since it was auto-rooted.
Didn't really want to go flashing as I'm always scared of bricking but here I go!
Thanks for the help

Was planning on flashing back to a 2.2.1 ROM with repartition, then flashing back to the original ROM which comes with Supercurio's Voodoo kernel.
(and thanks )
Btw with that term lagfix you were right. All call it that . Just for example nexus S has ext4 as a stock fs. So thats why I said in the future it could be just called converting the fs. Also the rfs isnt so lag plagued in the late 2.2.1 and for sure not in 2.3.3 versions. Thats why no lagfix.
One thing though when you say original rom wiht supercurio kernel what you mean with that?
Oh and have you tried JVK?
For some reason the ext conversion did a lot for me.
Mostly in start up speed after sim-card unlocking.
With the original rom I refer to the un-updated custom ROM I was running when I flashed the CF-kernel.
Haven't tried the unmodified JVK but the ROM is based on JVK
this happens time to time to me. see. I forget what the thread was about. not the first time I posted something in a thread that wasnt related to something completely else
Anyway what were we speaking about?
Ah supercurio, you like voodoo I guess. thats why that. anyway I am running on CF3 on stock JVK with the ext4 fix and i am happy with that.
Doesn't the CWM v3.something have a lot of trouble flashing zip packages?
Because a lot of people haven't updated their update packages?
Not trouble, problem is you need CWM3 update zips. And there arent many out there. And they have to be compatible with the rom you are running too. And CWM3 + JVK is relatively new.
I think I'll remain with Supercurio for the time being then
Atleast until CWM3.0 becomes readily availlable.
Thanks again!

Bricked Tab???? HELP

HELP! I am so scared...somebody help me!
I tried to installed the Overcome kernel but didn't like it, as each time I boot up, that voice comes up.
And plus, a few of my original apps was lost (including Market). So I thought i'd install with Odin again the:
CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar
And now, when i switch on the tablet, it'll boot with the animation and sound, but then a blank screen.
I can manage to boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Can i be saved? Please somebody help me!
Thanks

If you can boot into CWM, then you should easily be able to get into Download mode as well. You can go back to the stock image for your Tab, or try and reflash a different rom via CWM... sounds like just a bad flash for a soft brick..

Hi there, thanks for reply back to me.
I've managed to actually get it going again, by reflashing to the Overcome kernel.
However, some apps has disappeared and also the market.
Anyways, i wish to revert the whole thing back to stock, kernel and firmware. Is there a way I can do this via Kies?
Let me know what information regarding my tab you need. I believe it is the CPW (GSM) UK version.
cheers

LOL. FYI, your Tab is not haunted. That voice that you refer to, is basically an indicator that the file-system on the Tab is being converted from RFS to EXT4 (what some would affectionately refer to as the lag-fix). You should have left it to continue. That's the reason we ask people to let it finish booting before doing anything else. As always, when it comes to flashing a new firmware/kernel, it's always better to read up and know what to expect.
Anyway, by the looks of it, you might have a corrupted file-system, since you keep shutting it down mid-conversion. That's the reason "the voice" keeps coming back. If you'd allowed it to complete, it should not have returned.
Secondly, flashing the Overcome Kernel alone will NOT remove the Market application. If you were already on the CF-Root kernel, it might remove the CF-Root specific applications like the CwM "app" (and not the recovery functionality, mind you...) and the Tweaks app as these apps were created by ChainFire specifically for his kernel.
Best advice would be to re-flash a stock firmware first, to get your Tab into a clean system. From there, you can continue to to install the kernel of your choice (like ChainFire or Kouxudaxi's fine kernels as well.... these kernels, if I'm not mistaken, do not do automatic EXT4 conversions)
If you're unsure of how to do this, refer to the guide in teamovercome.net and it'll guide you in basic re-stocking (but using our Stock safe package which will provide you with the Gingerbread-based JQ1 firmware).

Hi there,
Thank you so much for your time in replying - I've managed to install what i believe is stock Gingerbread from Samsfirmware. So everything looks back to normal... tho i have posted another Question, with all my firmware details so I can be reassured I am back to stock.
So sorry, I panicked so badly last night..ha!
You have also special thread with many scenarios how to fix your tablet if anything goes wrong.
It helped me yesterday to revive my Galaxy Tab. Just suddenly it started freezing and restarting, after 3 weeks working perfectly on Overcome. Nothing changed, or updated, nothing installed for days, and all what was ever installed are programs I already have on my two other Android phones, it simply froze in the middle of work. Wipe didn't work, changing file system didn't work, etc...

Yup, in future i will be more careful when flashing, so glad that my tablet is back to normal (albeit with the Italian release of GB ) but everything works fine.
Will do more reading on the forums before undertaking any more flashing, make sure i know what i am doing and which Rom is best for me to use.
Cheers

[Q] Stock Galaxy S; Drowning in Information

Hi everyone,
I have a Galaxy S that is rooted, but runs on stock Froyo.
In the last couple of weeks/months it has been slugging to a slow halt though... when I start it up, it can take tens of minutes to be ready to use. And when I use it, it sometimes shows black screens for minutes at a time.
Using this 'high-end' phone has become a very, very painful process for me.
So I started looking for answers. And I found them. A LOT of them.
So much, I am not sure where to start.
The last few days I have been casually reading and taking in data from this forum, but I have yet failed to form me a proper view of what to do... Kernels, ROMs, speed fixes, modems... help?
I am sorry if I am breaking any rules; I did search, and I did read. However, no thread I found has a proper and up-to-date guide regarding the best way to get my phone to be a powerhouse, not a snail.
(Could I keep my current apps installed?)
I would very much appreciate anyone who is willing to donate some time to get me going. I know some programming and am the families 'go-to-guy' when it comes to computers, so I should be ok once I get some pointers on what to look for.
Thank you for reading (and responding?),
MM
I dunno if this will help you anyway i'll post it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939752
I did read that; thanks for the suggestion though.
It doesn't really go into kernels/roms/modems etc. which my main confusion is about.
I just downloaded darky's ROM... Reading their site, but I am afraid of losing my apps, not going to 2.3, having it interfere with my lagfix etc. =/
If you are afraid of loosing apps you can use titanium backup. You can download it from the market. I can't tell you anymore because that thread explains very well what you have to do. But i can say that after some time it will be very easy and you will not be afraid to flash a kernel or a rom. I post this too but i think you have read this too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723596
I did read that... I missed the 2.2 / 2.3 part however.
I planned on using Darky's ROM but that link says its a Froyo ROM.
Which one is better, currently; Cyanogen (Gingerbread) or Darky's (Froyo)?
Edit: also, while that post lists a lot of options, it in no way goes into which is the best option for which people...
Increasing the confusion a little bit more, so to speak.
Try cyanogenmod and darkyy rom and decide which is the best. I can't recommend anything you have to decide. But i suggest to upgrade to gingerbread. Your phone will get smoother. (darky's 10.2 is based on jvq a 2.3.4 gingerbread firmware). Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061946 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091. Remember: with cyanogenmod you have to use different kernels

I'm a noob but I'll try to clear out few things for you.
From what I understand ROMs are like operating systems you use on PC.you currently have a froyo ROM running and flashing a gingerbread ROM will be like going from windows XP to windows 7.
when you download a ROM and unrar it you'll see 3 files.
PDA is the main one. PDA is Android and the apps that come with it. MODEM is the firmware of the wireless chipset of the device, it controls WiFi, Bluetooth and 3G/2G/GSM connections. The CSC holds connection data for the broadband networks as well as apps that are only available in certain languages/intended for a specific area or operator.
A kernel is like the heart of the operating system. It manages the system resources and acts as bridge between the software and hardware.
Now there are stock kernels and custom kernels. when you flash(install) a stock ROM all the necessary things are installed along with the stock kernel.
But if you wish you can flash custom kernels over stock kernels.
The speed/lag fix things you have read are basically conversion of file systems to enhance the I/O performance of your phone. You should know of the NTFS,FAT32 file systems in windows, similarly you android phone can have RFS,EXT4 file system. when you flash a stock rom RFS is default file system that gets installed. Many say that this RFS is to blame for the lag, slowness in our phone so what we do? we convert to EXT4. but to convert to EXT4 you need to be running a custom kernel.
So let me tell you this go on and flash a stock gingerbread rom, Im using the latest stock 2.3.4 XXJVR and you should try it. then you flash the voodoo kernel for XXJVR. it'll root your phone, convert the file system to EXT4.
reply if you have confusions.
cheers
Now you are on froyo. If you want to upgrade to gingerbread you should loose your application. Because if you backup your application using titanium backup or any other software from froyo. Its not advisable to restore in gingerbread. It will give always problem. So better way is download Drakys v10.2RE and do a fresh install.
http://samsung-sgs.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-to-flash-darkys-rom-v102-re.html
This happened to me once, when I was already on Froyo, lagfix activated, etc.
Took forever to boot, and was slow as hell.
Reason: faulty microsd card. The phone kept trying to read from it, and was unable to. I tried taking out the card and... voilá!
You could be still on Éclair and no lag fix activated, the phone would never behave like that. Try taking out the microsd card.
(Couldn't even read the card in the computer, so you see).
Hi guys, a small update:
I got Darky's 10.2, which is VERY smooth.
I reformatted my external microSD and put my stuff (music) back on it. Clean install on the internal SD.
It is a very enjoyable device once again. Two issues:
-It sometimes hangs on a black screen which I can't get out of with the home button. It seems only a battery in-and-out fixes this. (This issue worries me; is the internal SD corrupted?)
-The external microSD sometimes needs to be ejected and re-inserted to work.
Any solutions regarding that? Should I get a new microSD, or even contact Samsung to ask for a new phone (especially the first issue worries me... a lot).
Again, thanks a lot for the very extensive answers.
Especially marib; your post was very informative, and I'll be keeping a bookmark of it for future reference... thanks!
I think you could search for this issues in the darky's thread and if not found post the issue there to get a promt solution.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
Yeah, figured as much.
Will be tackeling these issues in the weekend.
Just thought of posting them in this here thread too. Might have gotten lucky, and the thread was here anywho.
Again, thanks.

Urgent - Only professionals answer please!

Before you start reading, please make sure, you are 100% sure of ur answers, and that you have TIME to answer them ALL with clarification
Really thanks for ur time and help!
So i got a samsung galaxy ace, it's rooted and with b84 CF-Root kernel.
1) The thing is sometimes, I press Wi-Fi button or Bluetooth, and in the Wifi it says Error and on bluetooth just won't conect. I don't know what the problem is, and the only solution is to reboot the phone. Is this a problem? Can it be fixed? If It can, how? If not, please read point number 2.
2) If its not fixable, what ROM you advice me to reinstall? I have s5830XWKS2, some people say the DDxxx8(or something like that) is better don't know why I'm no programmer...
2.1) If I really have to have to reinstall it in order to fix it, how can I do it? Can you point out the thread for it?
3) I run a small business, and I use Tasker for all my stuff. together with other 60+ apps I need to keep, i'm using SD card with ext partition with Link2SD. And the thing i'm most afraid of, is loosing all the data. I came from a Nokia 5800XM, and I flashed it some times, backups are easy to do. Now here on Android becomes a bit complicated. Maybe never someone cleared me enough about it. So what can I do to sucessfully restore all data on the new ROM? I got Titanium backups, and CWM..Will that backup even my dictionary saved words?
4) Thanks, and please, again, make notice that I can't loose anything due to my business, but I can't work with phone needing to reboot at random times cause of wifi or bluetooh beeing bricked.
First of all. There is no such things as urgent situation here. You should remember that.
Second thing. You should post questions in Q&A sub-section. General is for sharing and discussions.
Third thing. There is a adb logcat thingie, which allows to understand a root of your problem more than 'Help me. Something doesn't work'
I remain this thread open but move to correct section.

Yes I experienced the same problem, could be software bugs problem so I think you can reinstall your software for the better.
I prefer cm mod7/8 for ace as it is much faster so you can try Google cyanogenmod for ace. They have all the tutorial you need.
As for your Apps, titanium backup will do fine. Its the best backup so far. Your dictionary words is the default system one? I recommend you smart keyboard pro as it has the function to backup all your words
So in short, backup your EVERYTHING with titanium backup, rmb your contacts too, and install cyannogen mod 7 or 8 whichever you prefer! Hope this helps!

There's no such thing as cyanogen mod 8...only unofficial cm 7.1 kang and official cm 7.2...
Nunopitbull, wifi & bluetooth problems that you experience are caused by the kernel, not the firmware or rom...so my suggestion is to use a kernel that is not based on cf root or use a stock kernel (the one that came with your phone)...just root your phone with the update zip method will do, and for cwm flash the zip for it...the newest version for sga is 5.0.2.6...there's no need to flash a custom kernel...
About cwm backups, it backups your whole system and data partition and also your boot.img (kernel related)...so yes, it is quite safe to say that your whole phone is backup-ed...but keep in mind that stock roms use .rfs format for the partitions...new custom roms use .ext4 format...so to flash a backup of a stock rom, first flash a fresh stock firmware with ODIN and the cooper.pit file...then re-root and re-flash cwm to restore your phone...
And fyi, link2sd uses a second partition right? The apps inside the second partition can be relinked if you reset the phone...as long as you don't format the second partition...but personally I suggest you to use DTa2sd or amarulzz script as it saves more internal space...check it out...
Hope that all the above helps...
So you're saying my problem of wi-fi/bluetooth is because of kernel? Can you help me by PM how to get it working again? I wanted a custom kernel don't remember already why, but I think was for the custom speeds of CPU, so I could have low ones..
Just want this bug to disapear of bluetooth and wifi!

So far I haven't seen a custom kernel for sga that works flawlessly...especially the ones with oc function...only stock kernels work with the least problems...since you want to underclock, just use the stock kernel and set it to the lowest value with an app like set cpu...it shall do you fine...

What are the other advntages with the CF Root kernel? I can't remmeber why I puted it, but I think they were another reason behind it...
Where I can get teh stock kernel? Or which one you advise?
Chill please...don't shoot questions in here...if you want quick answers, please search about it (e.g. go to the cf-root thread and read about the features, I don't memorise them, but I believe you want the overclock and a2sd features)...If you want direct answers, you will have to wait...
I understand that you need your phone for your business, it's very important to you...I'm trying my best to help out here ok? To get a stock kernel, just flash a stock firmware via ODIN...but you will have to re-root and re-flash cwm...any stock kernel will do, as long as it is with the firmware you flashed...

Try flashing a new kernel, this is NOT a rom issue, just a kernel issue.

Confused ...need help :d

Hey there guys! As the title says , i am a bit confused with this new android version for our kick-ass phone. The thing is , everywhere i look there are so many pro and cons on this. I am curently on CM7 temasek vers , and i am pleased with it , except the random signal drop and refusing to call sometimes aaand the all known airplane mode bug , other than that, which are fixed most of the times with an reboot , everything else works fine. Now , my question is did any of you guys (talking about the devs) managed to made a stable version of the new relase ? There are so many new things around (versions i mean) that have to be installed with i dont know what application through usb and things and not the classical .zip file on SD and install from boot , you guys know what im talking about. Anyways sorry for the long post and i hope some of you guys can tell me clearly what the heck is going on.

If you were looking for info on the CM10 there is a USER THREAD available for your question.
you should do some reading and find out whats best for you.
if you want something stable and decent i would recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038631
make sure you smart flash v28 or v30 BB ril is installed with the rom. and you need to be on the new partition.
i would recommend to install Topo's v28 rom using his NVflash (this will set your phone up on the correct partition system, and will allow you to smart flash your baseband without having to revert to v20 roms.
you should be able to use the tool kit in my sig also to do what your looking for.
Carburano and Topogigi did a great job modding the rom and kernel, its really fast and smooth. i've only found minor bugs that dont effect the usability of the rom. and depending on your BB most folk have not reported any radio issues.
the only problem you will have is a nandroid backup of your current rom (if you wish to restore it) you will need to revert your partition system before hand.
and also make sure you take a Titanium backup of your apps/ games, and use the migration option to restore them to ICS, because, your current data will not restore properly on a stock rom. since i noticed your using CM7.
Necrowakker answered your question very well, I'm also running DjangoManouche and it's awesome! I only know about two bugs that aren't major ones, but I don't know if it has others. The first bug is an audio issue, when you reach the middle of the volume that's actually the maximum and if you keep going up it will start from zero, it is actually not a big issue because the audio is as loud as you would expect, you just have to leave the volume up to the middle, and the second bug I know about is about the radio, I think is only with the King of Birds kernel, when you turn off the screen the radio stops, but I haven't face that since I don't really listen to the radio anyways.
So, as you can see there aren't any major issues here, so I totally recommend it and it's faaaaaast!
You can flash it via the cwm, but you have to be running an ICS rom fist, so you can have the new partition and the new bootloader.
For flashing the v30a kdz, rooting it and installing cwm I recommend you this tool kit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737 But be aware, you must make a backup first (you can do it directly in the toolkit) of your internal sd card since going to v30a will erase your all your data.
This is the method I used to update to v30a: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35193678&postcount=5 with that same Tool kit you can flash cwm and root it, it's extremely easy.
Hope it helps.
Thanks man , i got everything i need donwloaded and even started to do it buuut i have one problme , after instaling a CWM vers for it and following all the steps now im stuck with an internal card (emmc) apparently that i can not mount and since i have my ROM zip there and BB thingy as well , i cant do anything , nor that toolkit so any ideas on how can i fix it ?
I think i have kinda bricked my phone lol.
Heres what i`ve done :
1.Download everything i needed , the ROM , the BB file (V30) , the toolkit (AIO-P990 toolkit)
2.Added the ROM.zip file in the phone ready to install the ROM
3.Changed the partition size for ICS and such with the toolkit , everything went fine , i was excited
4.Gone in recovery to install the ROM and this is where the unexpected happenend , i couldnt acces my internal SD , the phone memory (cant mount emmc) or something ..and now i am stuck :<
Found the soultion , apparently it was me all the time (thats new , right?) my SD card cant be opened for some reason , prolly because i got it from a friend and it just fitted and i was able to add things on it , anywayz i`ve used another SD card from some other phone and managed to put the ROM.zip on it and add it to my phone .. now its installing , yay so yeah , no more help needed , thanks for the reply tho guys , much love ! Oh my god i`ve just installed it and it is awesome !
Thread moved. Please post all your questions here in Q&A in future. Remember asking for help is still asking a question.
Thanks
