I ragged on the VZN Bootstrapper from Market because I paid $2.00 and it didn't work (apologies to Koush). It wasn't really a problem as much as an annoyance, I just return to stock with Heimdall. But I really wanted to use Clockwork Recovery and try some of the cool ROMs I was seeing on the forum. After a few hours, I figured out how to get the bootstrapper to work on my tab, maybe it will work for you.
**As with everything else, I'm not responsible for anything if it doesn't work. I'm assuming your tab is already rooted and you have a general knowledge how to use Heimdall. If you don't then, don't even attempt to try to do this.**
Need:
Download/Install ROM Manger from Marketplace
Download/Install Titanium Backup from Marketplace
Download/Install Verizon Tab Bootstrap from Market Place
Heimdall or Odin (do a search)
VZN Galaxy Tab Stock ROM zip (do a search)
Process:
-Open Titanium Backup and Back-up Apps
-Open Bootstrap and select Bootstrap Recovery
-Do not select Reboot into Recovery Option
-Open ROM Manager and Flash Recovery
-Select Verizon Tab option
-Select Backup Current ROM
This will start the load of the of Clockwork Recovery 3.xxx
It will cycle through all of its processes and finally you will see the Clockwork Recovery option menu (If you see the Samsung 3e Recovery, something went wrong)
-Do not select reboot
-Select wipe/reset factory
-Select cache wipe
-Select Dalvik wipe
-Do this twice
-Now select reboot
It will hang on the Samsung screen for just a moment then it will reboot:
-You will have to go through your setup again (but don't worry you can restore all your apps through Titanium) But don't restore anything yet
-After you set up your google stuff go back to market and download ROM manager again
-Open ROM Manager
-Flash Recovery again
-Select Verizon
-Choose option to Backup Current ROM
-You should now go into Clockwork Recovery if everything worked
-Once it backs up
-Reboot
You should now restore all your apps and be able to boot straight into recovery from ROM Manager or hotboot. Bootstrapper does work and it did everything as advertised. I just needed to clean out my system and do a view extra things to get it work on my tab.

Yes I'm running KhasMek Dj11 K-LeanMod v2 with Boushh kernal. Reverted to a previous version of Clockwork as well 2.5xx.
I hate to ask but can write short write up how you installed the rom? I had an original droid before this and pretty cocky about rooting and loading a new Rom on the droid. But with the tab I don't understand sh*t.
I can root and load the new kernel and run titanium back up. But don't understand how to install the new Rom.

You will need
Clockwork recovery installed
Heimdall
KhasMek Dj11 K-LeanMod v2 ROM
-Back up all your apps
-Boot into recovery
-Wipe/Reset
-Wipe cache
-Go to "advanced" wipe Dalvik
-Select reboot
Let it reboot fully to Galaxy tab lock screen
-Press power and turn device completely off
-Make sure you are connected to your computer via usb
-Press power / volume down button
You will see the download screen. It's yellow and black.
-Open up Heimdall front end
-Where it says Kernal (zimage) hit browse and select the KhasMek Dj11 K-LeanMod v2 ROM
-Where it says Recovery hit browse and select the KhasMek Dj11 K-LeanMod v2 ROM
-Double check and make sure you have the image in the correct locations!
-Hit start
When it gets too 100% it should reboot. The KhasMek Dj11 K-LeanMod v2 ROM doesn't have a boot animation so the screen will go black for awhile then open to the tab lock screen.

Here is how to install and also get 3G working, don't complain, I tried.

First, get this ODIN one click, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731989 , thank you DG, you are a stud. Download the latest Nightly ,http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=captivatemtd , (I used 181). Grab the attached update.zip as well, this will be your CWM, to access it, use the 3 button method to get to recovery (press volume up and down, plus the power. release the power button when you see the ATT logo). Lastly, download Alpha 6, along with the Enable 3g zip and the superuser zip. Put nightly 181, the Alpha 6.zip, superuser.zip, update.zip, and the Enable 3g. zip on your sdcard.
Basic Outline of what needs to be done for original Alpha 6:
Download all the .zip's and the odin. Install drivers, and open up the ODIN.
Put the 4 zip's (Nightly 181, Alpha 6, Enable 3g, and update) on the root of your SDcard.
Open ODIN, and enter download mode on your phone. Connect your phone to your computer.
Press start on ODIN, and let it work.
Once the phone reboots, enter recovery mode. Choose reintsall packages, or install update.zip, whichever is there.
The phone will come back to that same recovery, choose reinstall packages or install update.zip again.
Choose install zip from SDcard, then choose zip form SDcard, and pick the cm7 nightly 181. Let that install.
Once CM7 is intalled, go back to recovery. Choose install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from sdcard, and install Alpha 6. You may have to repeat this step.
Go back into recovery, select install zip from SDcard, choose zip form SDcard, install the superuser.zip. Reboot the phone.
Once booted, log into you Google account, and download Script Manager.
Press the Menu soft key, System Settings, More..., Mobile Networks, Access Point Names, Menu soft key, New APN, Select Name and enter ATT WAP, then select APN and enter wap.cingular, Menu soft key and select save.
Reboot into recovery, install zip from SDcard, choose zip from SDcard, select the Enable 3g.zip, install.
Reboot the phone, open Script Manager.
Select the folder ".." twice (it should be the top folder), your now at the root folder, select etc, then init.d, select 99enable3g. Make sure "Run as root", "Run at boot", and "Run on net.change" are selected. Press save.
Reboot and it should work! Questions? Concerns? Let me know!
Basic Outline of what needs to be done for the Alpha 6 with Hardware Acceleration:
This is optional, but I went back to stock. You need the JF6 like before as well as the update.zip and the Alpha 6HW2D.zip on the SDcard.
Flash back to stock.*
Once finished going back to stock, go into recovery and reinstall packages. Let it reboot and select reinstall packages again.
First, do delete all user data and cache. It works.
Select install zip from SDcard, then choose zip from SDcard.
Select Alpha 6HW2D.zip. Let it complete. Then go back into recovery and repeat. It must be flashed twice.
TADA! let it boot and you should be good to go!

Question on the necessity of installing CM7. I came from JF6 stock, and I'm rolling just fine(for a Alpha)

Thank you for the links! I might need help with those instructions, Ill try to look them up. Ill add more to this later, Im gonna be busy for the next couple hours with some house work. Ill be adding the video and clean up the OP. with CM7, ill see how that goes, I just added that in there cause thats how i did it. Ill see if theres a better way. thank you very much for your help!
Just to ask the question - why is the JF6 with bootloaders necessary? Is the current state of the ICS port not compatible with GB bootloaders? Or is it just to have CWM available for flashing?
I'm just asking because if it's just a matter of being on a stock scenario, it would be safer to come from a non-bootloader stock package.

Good to go with 3g working. other fixes can be applied too. I think the above package contains all of them.

You can go with the GB bootloaders, I guess its personal preference. And I did it as a precaution. I like going back to COMPLETE stock to make sure I start from scratch.

I dont think it is, I like to make sure I have a known good baseline for testing, so I almost always go to JF6 and MC when I install ROM's like this

SMS Issues
If you're having problems sending SMS:
Open Dialer *#*#4636#*#*
Click: phone info
Press refresh next to smsc and see if the number is 07913121139418f0
If it isn't, input that number and hit Update

FYI, Running A6 with the Cappy kernel. I'm testing the battery now, and hit 100% last night before bed, unplugged, and overnight, dropped to 43%. Limited use since 9am PST, now down to 16%. Something interesting, Screen use is 45%, Phone Idle 20%, Android OS 9%

Thats what i think too. Im checking voltage control every once in a while, and the unused state is sleep. 100Mhz is at like 43%+.

Rumor has it that onecosmic is going to release A7 soon. I'll hold on to A6 until then and reflash then. See if that changes anything

Captivate install instruction for A6
So we start off, of course we need some files & requirements:
Make sure you have a WiFi connection available

I put all of them in a folder called ICS, you name it whatever you want
First of all we need to make sure you do not have simlock enabled.
To disable:
1. Go to settings
2. Go to the security tab
3. Click on sim card lock, and disable it.
You do NOT have to be on any particular ROM to install ICS. I prefer to start from JF6 and Master Clear.
If you are on a custom ROM:
Make sure to disable any lagfix if you have one enabled
Copy folder with your downloads onto your devices SD
If you want to make a backup of your current ROM, now would be the time to do that
Once that is done, power off, and just for safety sake, I remove my Ext SD and SIM
Now we need to wipe the phone.
1. In the recovery menu select “wipe data/factory reset”
2. Go ahead and go to the “advanced” option
3. In there select “wipe Dalvik Cache”
4. Go back to the menu you were before.
5. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
6. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
7. Navigate to the ICS Folder
8. Select the ROM
9. Now navigate to the option “Yes – ROM NAME HERE”
It will now flash the rom.
Once this is done, go back and install the ROM one more time
Once we have done this, go ahead and hit the “reboot system now” option.
Wait for the phone to boot, if it does not go past the boot screen after a few min, pop out the battery, re-install the battery, re-boot into recovery and start at step #1 again
Reboot in recovery.
1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. In there select “Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip”
Once it’s done, “reboot system now”
Once you’ve restarted. You’ll need to install script manager. For this you must have a WiFi connection, the device will not have a data connection yet. Open up the market and search in for “script manager”, and download & install Script Manager FREE.
When it’s done installing, we are going to add YOUR APN.
1. Open the settings app
2. Click on “more…”
3. Now press “Mobile networks”
4. Then click “Access Point Names”
5. And hit the menu button, then press “new APN”
For AT&T, I have been successful with:
Name: ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: Not Set
Port: Not Set
Username: Not Set
Password: Not Set
Server: Not Set
MMSC: Not Set
MMS Proxy: Not Set
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication Type: Not Set
APN Type: Not Set
When you have put these in, hit menu and save
Reboot into Recovery:
1. Navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “enable3gv2.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install enable3gv2.zip”
When it’s done flashing hit the “reboot system now” option.
Thank you to WarDrake in the i9000 threads who simplified this fix. I’m using his instructions and all credits go to him
1. Open script manager and go navigate to : /etc/init.d
2. In here select the script named 99enable3g and open it as a script
3. Now select run as root, run at boot, run on network change (DO NOT RUN IT)
4. Hit the “save” button.
5. Exit script manager
Reboot into Recovery:
1. In the recovery menu navigate to “install zip from sdcard” and press your selection key
2. Now choose the option “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “ICS_VoiceSearchFix.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install ICS_VoiceSearchFix.zip”
1. Select “choose zip from sdcard”
3. Navigate to the ICS folder
4. Select “CalendarFix.zip”
5. Now navigate to the option “Yes – install CalendarFix.zip”
Reboot, and you should be running ICS.

Safestrap is similar in behaviour to ClockworkMod Recovery. With the exception that you only flash .zip files to your 2nd-System which is "safe" as it protects your way into recovery should anything go badly.
What's in the ROM:
- Stock MotoBlur for Droid 4
- Rooted w/ Superuser
- Some of the obvious bloatware removed: Netflix, Slacker Radio, NFL Moblie, etc
- Nothing else has been changed
Basic Steps for applying this ROM:
- Install Safestrap from here:

- Once installed use the "Install Recovery" button inside the app
- Reboot the phone and enter Safestrap Recovery by pressing the [menu] button when the Safestrap Boot Screen is shown
- MAKE SURE YOU DO A FULL BACKUP BEFORE TURNING ON SAFE SYSTEM
- Enable "Safe System" using the "safe boot menu" -> "Toggle Safe System" (once complete you should see: "Currently: ENABLED" at the top of the screen).
- Now you can select "install zip from sdcard" and follow the prompts.
Controls for Safestrap are:
- Volume Down or the MENU button will scroll down
- Volume Up or the HOME button will scroll up
- Power button or the SEARCH button will select
- BACK button will go back 1 menu

T-Mobile/Samsung have rebranded the Exhibit II 4G, giving us a new kernel, a bump to Android v2.3.6 and performance improvements (they claim) in the process. The phone we all love is now the Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G.
This stock ROM (UVLG3) is NOT vulnerable to USSD Dialer Attacks!
Rooting
Currently, zergrush will not root this phone's Android 2.3.6. Three known methods:
Root Stock 2.3.6 w/o a new kernel or ROM
root-stock.zip
Mirror
This zip will install Superuser, su and busybox, leaving you rooted, but otherwise no changes to your phone. ClockworkMod must be installed to flash this. So:
1. Flash ClockworkMod
2. Boot into ClockworkMod and flash root-stock.zip.

Kernel sources
The kernel is based on Samsung's kernel source. This kernel is rooted; if you flash it via stock recovery or cwm your ROM will be rooted with Superuser.apk, Busybox and the Galaxy Exhibit cwm-recovery installed. This kernel works with all Samsung Gingerbread releases.
Rooted ROM Installation
CWM Keys:
Home key = enter
Back key = back
VolUp/Dwn = highlight choice
1. Back up your data. The installation will format your data partition. I suggest Titanium Backup, available in the Market.
2. Download & copy the current t679.uv???.deodex.0x.zip to your internal sd card (if you already have a cwm installed you may use your removable card).
3. Install Galaxy Exhibit Custom Recovery . If you're already rooted, you may install from the command line, otherwise you may install from Samsung's Recovery. Samsung's recovery only sees the internal SD, so copy the cwm zip there if you just have stock recovery. Stock recovery sometimes takes more than one try to start.
Easy way to start recovery
* Make sure the cwm zip is on your internal (non-removable) sd.
* Pull the battery from your phone.
* Connect phone to your pc via usb.
* Press & hold Volume-up
* Insert battery

8. Highlight the rooted rom zip file, then press Home.
After you confirm your choice, installation should take less than three minutes.

1. Back up your data. I suggest Titanium Backup, available in the Market.
2. Download & copy t679-root-v1.8.zip to your internal sd card (if you already have a cwm installed you may use your removable card).
It's recommended to install Clockwork Mod, but you can also flash the kernel from Samsung's stock recovery. Samsung's recovery only sees the internal sd, so copy files there if you don't have cwm.
Stock recovery sometimes takes more than one try to start.
Easy way to start recovery
* Make sure the cwm zip is on your internal (non-removable) sd.
* Pull the battery from your phone.
* Connect phone to your pc via usb.
* Press & hold volume-up
* Insert battery

Ditto here man. We'd all be screwed & tattooed without his know-how. BTW worth mentioning I had to refreeze all the bloatware again after the update. Noticed how the phone lagged and then checked Titanium Backup. Sure enough all the crap was back. Also re-check settings in programs like Juice Defender and Rom Toolbox. I had to re-enter some of them again as well.
Has anyone managed to update successfully while already being rooted? (Specifically by Zerg Rush method)
I've yet to received the OTA notification and still holding off If i should update using the software. Stock ROM but just rooted. Holding off on "flashing" anything as I've never done it before.

That's not true at all, but thanks for saying it. Anyone handy with *nix can do what I do, and 95% (or more) of the techniques I use were pioneered by others here on xda.
Hey so i was just looking, and had a few questions, the rom you say is stock and odexed, are all the official roms odexed? Also just curious is the extra file in ur rooted rom, that are not in stock, extra like tweaks or part of odex or are they needed? some are just text and xml so im sure prolly wouldnt hurt, but not exatly the same as stock. Also depending on the answers to the above would you mind looking at the rom i made or maybe releaseing one that has no extras just root and busybox so stock kernel and recovery?
edit: also just noticed theres an extra folder(not in stock) T9DB just wondering what they are for or what they do, looks to be like something for the keyboard?
edit2: i think i answered one of my questions stock is odexed., other questions still wondering about though. It also looks like you might have taken a different approach to rooting the rom, maybe you could look at mine see if its just complete fail or not lol and or maybe pming me, to avoid clutter, on how you did urs.

The phones I use have always come odexed. I know of no other root methods. I don't have time to beta your rom, but feel free to post a link. I'm sure you'll have volunteers
cool, and no problem, and basically all i did was use the dsixd kitchen and added root(from in the kitchen menu), does that not really root it? does that just change the file permissions? cause when i did that it added the su binary so i assumed it did, but doesn't look like thats what you did, urs has a mkroot folder that im gonna guess is used by the update-script to add the su binary and such.

You are correct
Flashed the ROM, all went smooth, but I can't install anything from the Market. Every time I try I get "ERROR "Blah" Could not be downloaded due to an error." Any ideas? Did a full romwipe and dalvik before flashing. The markets not even updating to Play store either.
Hi guys! I believe most of you obtained root via this method by Jiangyi: [TUTORIAL] Root access for ICS on I9100G which requires a temporary CWM. Quite a few users face problems because in temporary CWM, internal storage is swapped with external storage, i.e. sdcard=internal storage, internal sdcard=external storage. It may be confusing for newbies, especially on their first attempt on rooting. Therefore, I decided to release an easier method, where you can flash the zip files directly via stock 3e recovery!
Requirements:
- Running a stock ICS/JB ROM
- External sdcard
Features:
- SuperSU v0.99 by Chainfire
- Busybox v1.20.2 by Stericson
- No yellow traingle
- No increase in binary counter
Instructions (Root):
1. Download SU-BB-Installer.zip from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390233485161005747
2. Place it in your external sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.
4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home + Power buttons simultaneously.
5. Navigate to "apply update from external storage" using the volume buttons.
6. Select it by pressing the Power button.
7. Select SU-BB-Installer.zip.
8. Wait for it to finish and navigate up (select "../").
9. Select "reboot system now".
10. Congratulations, you now have root and busybox!
Optional: (For ICS only)
To obtain CWM recovery in order to start flashing ROMs or mods, read on:
1. Download kTool from Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool
2. For ICS: Download the CWM recovery kernel by codeworkx from here: [KERNEL][GT-I9100G] ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.1.2
3. Extract the .tar file and you will get a file named zImage.
4. Place the zImage in the root of your internal storage.
5. Launch kTool and select "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage".
6. Reboot and profit! If you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see CWM recovery.
Optional: (For JB only)
To obtain CWM recovery in order to start flashing ROMs or mods, read on:
1. Download one of the stock recovery flashable zips of Blazing Safe Kernel from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293576
2. Place it in your external sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.

5. Navigate to "apply update from external storage" using the volume buttons.

**NOTE: In order to use this method to unroot, you MUST use my method to root before this.
Optional (remove CWM recovery)(For ICS only):
This is the tricky part, the easiest way is to reflash a whole firmware via ODIN. But if you like new methods, try this:
1. DO NOT uninstall kTool or unroot your phone first!
2. Obtain a stock zImage (either you download it or extract it from a firmware package), make sure that it is meant for the firmware you are using.
3. Place the zImage in the root of your internal storage.
4. Launch kTool and select "Flash kernel from /sdcard/zImage".
5. Reboot and if you boot into recovery by Volume Up + Home + Power buttons, you will now see the default stock 3e recovery.
6. Now you can unroot your device.
Optional (remove CWM recovery)(For JB only):
1. Download stock_XXLSR_kernel.zip from here: http://bit.ly/XCEejd and place it into your external sdcard/internal sdcard.
3. Power off your device COMPLETELY.
4. Boot into recovery mode by pressing Volume up + Home + Power buttons simultaneously.
5. Navigate to "Install zip from sdcard" using the volume buttons.
6. Select it by pressing the Power button.
7. Select "Install zip from sdcard" if you placed it in the external sdcard, or select "Install zip from internal storage" if you placed it in the internal sdcard.
8. Navigate and select stock_XXLSR_kernel.zip.
9. Wait for it to finish.
10. Select "reboot system now".
11. CWM recovery is now replaced by stock 3e recovery, and back to stock kernel too.

Mount and remount your SD Card =)
Really great guide man. Super simple. Will use this to root my gf's 9100G and get her on CM once I get back to India. Especially helpful because she just burned out her USB port by dropping the phone in a toilet so she can't use odin. =_=

Keep in mind that you need an EXTERNAL SDCARD for this...Or you are already using one, you will have to wait a while in recovery if that happens...it takes some time...if not, reinsert your sdcard...
This is going to be a bit of a noob question, but I'm new to samsungs, I swear that rooting is very different on everything else.
Is this the best way to flash a new aosp rom? The phone is not ICS at the moment, so I was going to flash stock ICS, follow this tutorial to root, and then install some jb rom like rootbox. Or can I just do temporary CWM and flash the root box on there and keep cwm?

No, JB ROMs require ICS bootloader...so the best way is to flash a stock ICS ROM, root it and get a kernel with CWM, then only flash the new ROM...

U must flash ics stock firmware 1st in order to get the ics bootloader..then u can do temporary cwm and can flash any roms based on ics/jb..
