[Q] Is it possible to have the Stock 2.2 "phone" button behavior using ADW Launcher?
In 2.2, the phone button on the default launcher remembers the last "tab" you were on in the phone app (instead of always going to the phone tab it would remember if you were last on the Phone / Call log / Contacts / Favorites tab. The standard widget "phone" you can add always sends you to the phone tab.
I would love to use ADW again, but for me the always going to the "phone" tab dialer is a deal breaker. I have searched for an answer here and on Google, but could not find anything related to this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Dialer One has that option (among tons of other options), if you want to try it.

I will give Dialer One a try and see how I like it.
I was hoping that the answer was easy, since it is obviously a widget that the default android launcher uses. I figured I was just not seeing it in the widget list or it was a shortcut that was obscure.

[Q] Switch Dialer and Lock Slider

It is rare that I can't find what I am looking for on this site, but a couple of things are eluding me.
I have a Captivate running Cognition v2.3b2.
First:
Dial by Name: The Captivate dialer seems to only search from left to right when trying to dial a contact by name. I checked a friend's Epic 4G and it finds the pattern anywhere in the contacts name (even if i dial "mit", "jon smith" will be returned as a result to choose from). This is also how WinMo worked and I really miss that functionality.
How can I use the Epic 4G dialer on the Captivate (with 2.2)?
Second:
Stock Lock Slider: The Driod X has a lock slider that sets the phone to vibrate, rather than silent. Can this be used on the Captivate?

It seems like I figured #2 out. I remember playing with the settings on the old Cognition ROMS without any luck. But, now it seems to work.
Settings --> Sound --> Vibrate = 'Only in Silent Mode' or 'Always'
Any thoughts on #1? Could that be as simple as a setting change too

I just flashed Cognition v2.4 which is based on a Vibrant ROM and the dialer now searches first and last name (regardless of how I have the contacts sorted). It won't find any pattern like the Epic does, but it is good enough for me.

The Dialer is DialerTabActivity.apk inside /system/app.
You could try pulling the Epic 4G one and overwriting it.
I do not know what this would result in. Worth trying.

[Q] How to make the default SGS phone dialer smarter?

Hi need help here, how to make the default phone dialer smart dialing smarter like Dialer One? I like the interface of the default dialer but would like to have the smart dialing function like Dialer One. Current the default dialer only able to detect the first word of the contact list & this definitely super sucks!

[BAD] Stock sms/mms app is bad

I hate the stock sms/mms apk (and i usually love it)
You can't set the max size for mms (whick is 3kB )
You can't change smilies key to new line key
Can't import/export sms from /sdcard/messages/smsXXX.db (had this feature on Acer E350)
No pop-up (CM10 feature)
Will the devs patch this apk ? Thanks

LOL just install an alternative keyboard app from the Play Store. Not that hard is it?

This is what is called user preference. You being the user don't prefer the stock MMS/SMS tools.
As a consumer this leave you with a few options. Return the phone. Or, like any other Power User that buys an andriod, go to the market and find one you do like?
I mean sheesh...Its like I am not even on XDA some days.

-use an alternate sms/mms app that supports pop up

[Q] Keeping some info after flashing

Hey, I just got into flashing roms and such... just moved from CM 10 stable to beast 4.2.1 and everything went great except from settings that got missing which are mainly 3:
1. I joined contacts together with their facebook profile in order to get their picture when calling them but when i flashed the new rom that was gone... any way of keeping it?
2. all my ringtones aren't synced anymore... now when i have someone who used to own a ringtone of his own i got no ringtone at all... same question
3. my entire launcher stayed the same but the widgets aren't working... any way of fixing that?
4. (different question) in the power widget in the notification drawer there was an option to change the time the screen takes to turn off, that option isn't available in the quick settings panel... is there other way to enable it? (besides getting the power widget again)

1. You have to use HaxSync with the Jellybean work-around to sync Facebook contacts/pictures. There may be alternative apps available but this is just what I myself use.
2. Not sure what you are trying to ask. Just go into Sound settings or your music player and set a ring tone.
3. This is normal. I'm assuming they either look like white or black boxes? Just delete and reapply your widgets.
4. Not that I know of.

1. found a solution... restored my 4.1.2 contacts storage via titanium and it's working great.
2. What I mean is that when I set a custom ringtone and flash a new rom that ringtone isn't working anymore... (which makes me miss some calls...)

New question (since i can't post in development)... In CM 10 I had Developer Settings in the settings menu... and on beast 4.2.1 i don't have them... is that normal? is there a fix for that?
