[Q] Fast Dormancy for ICS, i9000? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been searching for an answer but have yet to find one, so I am going to ask here: is there a way to enable/disable Fast Dormancy on ICS? I have an i9000 and am running Slim ICS 4.0.3.
I have read that the samsung code *#9900# does not work on AOSP roms, and would like to confirm this. Also, if this is true, is there another way to access this setting? ie, app from the market?
Thanks in advance for your help

Confirmed that it does not work on THS ICS CM9 alpha b17, either.

I dont think disabling / enabling fast dormancy on i9000 would have any affect.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA

I'm not entirely sure if it really has any effect on i9000, but from my own personal experience, while I was on 2.3.3, it appeared to make all the difference to my phone. While my phone currently runs fine, I just wanted to see if changing the fast dormancy setting was able to improve my phones performance.
I've seen that link you provided before, but was under the impression that it was referring to a GB rom, not an ICS rom, although I could be mistaken.
Anyways, thanks for your help

Any notice about this issue?
I´m very interested.
Thanks

Same here, it would be really good if I could disable fast dormancy.
Edit: I have read somewhere that it is possible to go back to GB, disable fast dormancy and then go back to ICS. Is it possible?
What if I go back to GB, disable FD and then restore a nandroid backup from ICS. Will FD still remain disabled?

Been using FastyII since v1.5 (which was not that long ago). Exceptional ROM; however, I've never been able to get a GPS lock. I read the other posts regarding this issue, but can't find a solution. As a matter of fact, lbstestmode is not be found. What am I missing?

Download gps aid from the market, that might help your case.
Yup.. u r rite.. I messed it up. vcf file imported the contacts to my google account and I was searching them by checking only the phone option.

No luck. Just tried that along with several other "GPS Fix" apps. For GPS Aids, the XTRA (native mode) fails so I tried using it in "forced mode". Still nothing. Curious why I can't start lbstestmode.

Hmm you might have a captivate with a really bad gps .(hardware)
Where can I download v2? I'm running 1.9 now and loving it. The best battery I've had, ever. I'm getting 15 to 19 hours usage with ~2hrs display and 1-2hrs talk. The same basic setup since the day I bought it (7/10), multiple gmail accts, wifi and bluetooth on and display set to automatic.
3G problem
Hello I love the ROM. I had Fasty 2.5 but changed to Fasty II 1.9. Now my Browser dont work in 3G, yes in WIFI, also the Opera Mobile, but Opera mini works OK and other software that use 3G like Market and Slingplayer also work OK.
Thanks!
Check out my post here about my GPS issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17574640#post17574640
Loaded Fusion V and have GPS back. But, I prefer FastyII...
So Far So Good
I haven't had a chance to really test drive the ROM yet, but things are looking fine thus far. There is a small bug. I have the honey smoke theme. I noticed that when I go to make a wifi connection and enable auto rotate (when entering WEP key) I have to manually go into settings in order to turn it off again. The drop down auto-rotate button won't work. Nothing major. Keep up the good works guys!
App kill
3rd day on fasty.. no issues.. Excellent battery life
I miss the CM7 feature which kills the current app by long press Back button. If possible, could you please add that in the next version
I have a problem, sometimes I try to open an app and looks like crash or something because reboot the phone, was with latitude, TouchPal keyboard trying to open it and the last was trying to read a text .

Last I checked fasty 2 thread is closed, and I lack the link to dl atm. But on cyanogen you should flash to stock. And get GB bootloaders if you dont have them. Also If you dont havr bootloaders id recommend flashing jf6 or kb1 (based on your phones build). After on stock flash GB bootloaders and then flash boogs kh3 kernel, then cwm rom. Alternatvly you can flash stock kh3, but i still recommend jf6 or kb1 first.
Im not on my computer so dont have links sorry

You need cwm. The esiest way to get it is flashing boogs kh3 kernel, DesingGears cog5 step 2 kernel (kf1) or any kernel with cwm.

Only certain apps can be moved to SD. Most apps cannot be. It's up to the developer.
All computers get hot when you run heavy programs on them.
No idea about the shut down problem unfortunately. Typically a factory reset should fix the problem, but that's rather drastic. When did this problem start? Did you install something before it all began?

[Q] How To Determine Bootloader Are You On?

Hello all. I want to ask one question: How to determine what bootloader I am on, since I've lost track and worried that I will brick my phone when flashing other rom (Tempted to try Paranoid Android) .
Currently I'm using LiquidSmooth. My friend advised me to post a question here since he don't sure what's bootloader I was on since I used to flashed i9220LP1-N7000-ICS-Repack.
Thank you in advance.
As long as you haven't flashed the LP5 full leak that had a locked bootloader you are safe.
Just follow the instructions in the paranoidandroid thread and you'll be fine.
Id like to know which bootloader im on aswell. Please help us on determining which one we are on.

Anyway can I check it somewhere, just to make sure of it?
And what if I was flashing LP5? What can I do?

i tried to flash old Bootloader and also laggy

Your lag is caused by the kernel and your personal setup (too many apps, perhaps).
Bootloader has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
Bootloader consists of a set of instructions helping the speed and efficiency of the boot sequence.
It plays no part in the subsequent performance of your phone.
Wonderfully confused again due to lack of technical knowledge...
If I used imilka's CM9 based on leak repack, then flashed GB through PC Odin, then safe, official CM9, there are still traces of that leak in my system...?

but i test my statusbar after installing the rom directly without mc or sim card and after some time to let the os settle and that's the same problem

Helloo...im using your great rom for few days. Its quite good...but kinda slow for me with stock kernel(i know that i can flash other kernels) Can you add strong accord kernel ?
Thx
Sorry for bad Eng.

It is possible that the ROM provides customization options within the system and not at the time of the install mode similar CM10 that are based on?
For example: clock in the center or on the side, various styles of lockscreen, clock + date style, style icons and battery etc..
Another thing would be, you can deploy LED notifications?
Sorry my English.

Customization options within system requires a lot xml file modifications. This will take some time. For notification, have you tried LG Touch LED Notification app? Its free on play store.

I just installed this rom since about a week, had some battery drain problems. I switched to the interactive governor and this got a bit better. One big drain is wifi, for this i installed an app which disconnects wifi when screen goes off and on again when i wake my phone. Another problem is that the phone is constantly awake and never goes into deep sleep. Any solution for that?
hi ppl, here is my review, i change to hellmanor kernel. first impression that its running good, i need a lot of battery and when i set to lionheart and cfq. i manage to have a working phone over 24 hrs with low usage, around 8 short calls, about 2 hrs of wifi, no data 2/3g at all, and around 1 hr of gaming. and few minutes ago i put to recharge, battery left b4 charge - 44%
the funny thing is that i notice that my phone start to ring very late while incoming calls, i use vibrate with sound, while a call is incoming, the phone vibrate around 5 sec b4 the sound kicks in, this wasn't happening with stock kernel.
do u think that it might be the governor i chose or maybe I/O ? maybe the low cpu speed when phone in deep sleep?
thanks
sol
Lockscreen
Hi Tantrums,
first thanks for you work.Greate job I have several questions. Is it possible turn off the locksreen rotation? I hate it If i get the sms or miss call, the notification bar show me. But if i turn off this in notification, sms still like unread. I want accept it from notification, not go to the sms or dialer and tap to miss call or sms. Last is GPS. After lock the satelites, gps work normal. But if i want use it for running, walking and others, gps is not realy correct. Sport tracker show me bad way, distance and speed. I guess gps use only few satellites. Do you can change this for next version? Please! Because you ROM is awesome.
Thanks you.
I wonder how I install CWM recovery without flashing the regular v20s via SFT? I tried not to install this custom CMW ('ve had problems with it to restore roms at other times) but could not.
I await your help.

from the Play Store, download and install "No-frills CPU Control". Open the program and set the governor to either "performance" or "interactive". Set the scheduler to "cfq". That should help with the battery. (it should actually double it).
Not sure about the time sync. Someone else was manually having to do it too.
Have you performed a factory reset via settings or the hidden menu?

I used the base band from Huexxx when I updated from GB to ICS:
http://huexxxtuff.blogspot.com.es/2013/01/izs-rom-links.html
You should be able to change the base band even after you install a ROM image.
Hi, I'd like to try this ROM but I just have a few quick questions as I couldn't find a clear answer reading through all the posts in this thread and the dev. thread...
Is flashing the baseband absolutely essential to run this ROM? I currently have V20j as I'm in Canada on the Koodo (Telus) provider. I noticed the basebands (versions V30x) are for Europe and Germany etc. Would this not cause an issue as I'm in Canada? Would the language still be in English?
Also there are several baseband versions, I'm not sure which one I should use. Can anyone help me understand which one I should use (if any)?
Does this ROM contain it's one gapps version as well as it's own Kernel? (I'm currently using kernel 3.0.8)
I'm currently running Mackay 2.7.6 (JB 4.2.2) so I'm assuming just a factory/data wipe, wipe dalvik cache, wipe cache, and install the zips from SD, correct?
Can someone confirm the bluetooth works with this ROM (audio works) as well as camera works completely?
Thanks in advance.
I will try with the v30 baseband.

No it's not essential. I don't know if it's better to stay with your baseband or flash the european open. I would first stay with the one you have and than after a few days try the v30 one, if v30 works well it's probably better. You know that some contries in europe speek English too? (Like England.)

Your getting something complettly wrong here, this is not CM9 based it's based on the oficiall LG v30b, so Gapps are not needed (you could say there already included, but it's more like there not removed). Marvel11 comes with aroma installer and includs 3 different kernels. Mackay is CM10.1 based, so everything is different, the kernel for sure.

Camera works, GPS didn't for me (europe) but it might for you, bluetooth I hardly ever use so I can't garantie but it works on other v30 based ROMs so I don't see why not. (As said it's not CM9 based.)
Don't make a fuss just try it, it should work. If it doesn't you probably made something wrong, than come back explain what you did and probably a few ppl can help you.
do we need to flash v30 baseband separately? doesn't it gets flashed along with the ROM?

[Q] Stuck with Ginerbread 2.3.6, Slowdown. Need Help

Hi Guys,
I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread

I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Just one more question, what's your backup strategy that you guys use?
Or else it a lot of work to update each and every app... one by one... also what about the SMS, call log etc?

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?

Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot

Ok, so I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 running! so far so good
Good job. Now you can flash a zip in cwm.

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
