backing up original Baseband & Kernel - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, have a Galaxy Note Singapore Starhub with Basedband N7000DXKL2 and Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-N7000DXLA1-CL886914 [email protected]#2, Build Gingerbread.DXLA1
would like to back up Baseband and Kernel before experimenting with Rooting the Galaxy Note N7000.
Could anyone advise ?
thanks

You can't backup without rooting.
you can get back to Stock ROM, with flashing stock ROM with PC Odin
here you can see your ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

read your many posts on rooting the Galaxy note and I am just worried I will void warranty if I were to use the older Kernel downgrade and cant revert back to a Starhub Kernel.
There are 3 main telcos in Singapore, Singtel, M1 and Starhub, only see Singtel listed as firmware. I bought my Galaxy note under contract from Starhub.

You can type *#272*IMEI# to see your Note's Sales Code. This determines the pre-installed package that comes with your Note under Starhub. Then you can download the Stock firmware from dr.ketan's post for your keepsake. Then... Start your engine!

i typed in*#272*4694# dial got invalid MMI code ?
do i need to type IMEI instead ?
thanks

No, you have to key in your Note's IMEI number. You can key in *#06# to get your 15-digit IMEI number. Then use the code above to find your sales code. After that you can download a stock firmware related to your sales code. Be careful NOT to change your sales code because it will WIPE your phone.
My sales code was XSP so I keep a stock N7000XSP as my backup ROM.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA

I have a similar question too.
I have the following basseband, kernel:
- Baseband: N7000XXLA4
- Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
I can't see it in the list of stock ROMs. Does that mean I can't revert back to original ROM in the future if I want to?

You can check the latest STOCK firmware available for your Note at either the following:
- dr.ketan's post (check his signature)
- samsung-updates.com
- Checkfus downloader

My build was not listed and I had non rootable room so I had to restore to old room hoping to find my original room someday... you need root to backup

Chances are your build is already updated that's why it's not listed. Most of the time only the latest stock ROMs are listed. If you intent to keep it STOCK, you can update your firmware via Kies (in PC) or OTA (in your phone). For OTA, go to settings -> About phone -> Software update -> Update.

So how do I know which region firmware is my firmware?
My firmware description/code doesn't have region code on it.
Does it matter which region firmware I download and keep as long as it's the same version?
This is so confusing. I thought I wouldn't have any trouble/issues rooting/flashing this phone as I have an Iconia A501 rooted and running stock ROM.
---------- Post added at 04:34 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:56 PM ----------
NVM. I figured it out.
If anyone has the same problem, install Check Fus on your phone and it'll tell you your product code and the last three digits is your region code.
Mine was AUT, which is Austria.

[Q] Kies Firmware update problem

Hello all,
I have tried to search regarding this issue but did not get any real clear answer to have to solve the problem.
When I check for new firmware for my Galaxy tab 8.9 (GT-P7300) in Kies it says: your device does not support software upgrading via kies
I have had different firmwares in my tab latest ICS_CM9, but I tried to restore original firmware with Clockwork_Recovery_5.5.0.4
But somehow my backup does not seam to be approved by Kies.
When my tab was brand new I wrote down the info from About and this is the data:
Model Number: GT-P7300
Android Version : 3.1
Baseband Version : P7300XXKHC
Kernel version : 2.6.36.3 [email protected]#1 SHP PREEMPT fri Sep 2 16:00:16 KST 2011
Build number : HMJ37 P7300XWKI1
Also could someone from that data say what country model this Tab is supposed to be, I live in Finland (and its bought here) but I don´t get it to add up ...
Any ideas how to get kies to approve my firmware? Soon ICS will be released by Samsung and I like to test the official version. And to do that I probably need to have kies up and running.
This as I like to do it official way , and not true Odin ...
You need to reflash stock firmware, and remove root if you are rooted. Then kies will work.

I now tried to reflash stock firmware to something i thing was same version as I had from the beginning (http://hotfile.com/dl/145798475/58cc500/P7300XWKI1.zip.html).
I also removed root rights and put back stock recovery, but now kies don't even see what software version i have on my Tab. current software version is blank.
Any more ideas ?
Install app name check fus, it tell you tab product code.
Download lastest stock rom from sammobile.com by select the match version of rom with your product.
Samsung Kies will upgrade only if you have right version of match firmware and product code.
cheers

Any ides for download place ?
Firstly, Odin is the official way. Samsung service centers use Odin to flash firmware on devices. If official ICS will be released, I'm sure we will get a Odin flashable .tar long before the update will show up in Kies for your Nordic tab. So i don't see the point in worrying about Kies, infact i have never used Kies to update any of my Samsung devices. I just don't trust this crappy software.
If you still want to locate your stock rom then send me a PM, i believe i can help you.

[Q] ICS via PC Odin, Now want the official update via kies

Hello Everyone,
I have a few questions I hope I will get satisfied here.
I have recently updated my GT-N7000 to ICS via this website.
android.gs/ update-samsung-galaxy-note-n7000-to-official-ice-cream-sandwich-lpy-with-mobile-odin/
I followed the PC odin method and in a few minutes I got ICS. It also said that via this method your phone would not be rooted and you will be able to get the official updates through kies in future.
Yesterday I saw on the internet that ICS for Poland is out and now I want the official ICS version via the KIES.
Now whenever I try connecting through kies I get the message that "Your Software doesn't support software upgrading via Kies"
What is the problem? How to solve it?
Download the poland version from sammobile.com or dr ketans thread and flash using pc odin
It would be better to download Polish 2.3.6, after THAT factory reset, and then upgrade into 4 through Kies.
when would i get official isc in serbija ? does somebody know?
Moved To Q&A
Please post questions in the Q&A section
The problem is the incopatible csc file... Try the solution provided as first reaction on your post. Either you dowload the old firmware, then you flash it over your current firmware and after this, the kies update should work again.
Or you simply download abd flash the pl. Update directly and kies will work for the future releases in poland.

Great job irritating forum members by hijacking another thread as your very first post... I am sure you will get tons of answers. Maybe read a bit before asking questions - there IS a dedicated ICS info thread...

Well Now I am having problem finding the firmware for my phone when I do this
Dial *#06# that will show hour emei. Write it down, then dial *#272*yourimeinumberhere# that will show your csc, you can change it here, it will wipe your data thought. I get XEO as my sales code.
*#1234# gives me
PDA: N7000XXLPY
PHONE: N7000XXLPT
CSC: N7000OXALPY
Build Info: Friday May 4
Also KIES says
Current firmware version: PDA:LPY / PHONE:LPT / CSC:LPY(XEO)
What to do now ?
Did you flash a polish gingerbread or which version did you flash?
Cause now it seems you have ICS open germany version.

My Sales Code is XEO previously I have 2.3.6 and then I flashed two days ago this
ICS via PC odin.
Now what to do ?
Well I dont know if there is a polish version of ICS out yet. But you can check that on
www.sammobile.com
But it shouldnt be any different than the rom you currently have. Except for maybe languagesupport.
So if I were in your situation I wouldnt do anything.
There is a simple solution for that. I did it for exactly the same reason as you. Just download official gingerbread ROM for your country /Poland/ and flash it via Odin. If Kies is still unable to use updates, you will have to find right CSC for your phone. There is allways more than one for each country.. because of different carriers etc. Someone described how to do it in previous comments.
If you get lucky, Kies will be finally satisfied with your phone and will offer you official update /if it is really available/
I have reverted back to the Slovak Gingerbread ROM because I had some issues with German ICS. Now I just have to wait for official update for my country..
I just read in development section that official ICS LPY is out for poland also. You can allways flash that through Odin.

What does PDA, CSC mean? which firmware to choose

Hi all,
I have just bought me a galaxy note with 2.3.6 firmware,
And i wonder what does the PDA and CSC mean in the firmware upgrade to ICS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I don't really understand which firmware to choose...
I want to choose 4.0.4 but dont know which one.
I am currently using :
model number GT-N7000
android version: 2.3.6-mobile-star
baseband version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA4CL886827
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
What is my PDA?
What is my CSC?
What is PAD?
What is CSC?
Which firmware can i choose?
What is the difference between all the firmwares?
Thanks in advance
PDA represent your build version
e.g your current build is Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6, then PDA version of your ROM is XXLA6
again XX represend for countries, XX means it is for europian country
If suppose your build info contain DDLPA, then DD represens for India and PDA version is LPA, means that ROM is for India
Same way CSC is sales code., you can check your ROM CSC by dialling *#1234#
again first two digits represents country and last three represents release time.
But as such there is no restriction to use any ROM for any country if your device is unlocked(carrier restriction free)
Latest ICS is LRK for germany, you can use that too.
I see

Thanks for the reply dr.ketan now i understand something!
Just to make the picture complete:
when i dial *#1234# i get:
PHONE: N7000XXLPT - what that means?
CSC: N7000EULA1 - what that means?
I understand that because my phone uses PDA with XX i can use any EuropeanROM ?
Thanks a lot!
backup your efs first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606012
you need root for that you can get that by following dr ketans guide in sticky section developement.

you can update to any rom any time, just follow dr ketans thread and follow pc odin route
Updating throught Kies/ota is tricky, you need pcode sometimes of the country rom you want to go to, no root, and csc of that countries rom, and a whole stock rom installed for that csc. Best to just always follow pc odin route lol
also read stickies and threads fully cause a lot messed up by not doing that. One tip on ics do not wipe/factory reset
happy reading and searching

CWM and battery
I have rooted the N7000XXLRK successfully.
You mean that i can not install CWM application on that firmware?
So how do i backup the whole phone without CWM?
And another question:
i want to see the battery percentage on the upper bar and not only the battery icon indication, how do i do that? is that possible?
Thanks,
best, not to use cwm on a kernel that can trigger the emmc brickbug, best to use kernel like speedmod k3-11 or likewise which has the trigger for emmc brickbug disabled when doing anything in cwm, or in ics.
Dont wipe, factory reset, change csc, or delete large files on a stock ics kernel
to eliminate these issues read threads/first posts of kernel threads btw.
tip: use kernels based on tw, or stock for stock ics, kernels based on cm9 or other are not for stock..
tip2: when nandroid backup, and wanting to recover that, you need same kernel installed as when backup was made. So use a safe kernel
tip3 when recovering apps and data on different roms, issues can arise due to different database structures, which is why its not really supported on i.e. cm9
tip 4 Some roms are wipe some are not. when going to and from gb and ics stuff could linger, which could cause softbricks. There are clean ways to go to and from, enought threads on that's but always do it on safe kernel whatever wipe action

Download ur stock rom and extract the cache. img file from it. install this cache. img using pc odin selected in the csc tab
if you made efs backup with working ota, restore it, if you didnt, check if:
no custom parts installed (kernel)
Or parts that didnt come with same stock rom version (e. g. if you changed modem)
Or if your pcode is different.

Thanks for the explanation, but what do the letters PDA actually stand for?
(And please don't say "Personal Digital Assistant," because that's all I can find and I've been searching all day.) :fingers-crossed:
I'm sure it must mean something else when it is being used in a discussion of Android mobile phone software.
Does anyone know what "PDA" actually stands for, what are the actual words represented by that abbreviation?
Thanks in advance for your help.
CSC and Google Play App
I've tried a lot of ROMs. Some ROM makes impossible to install applis from Google Play Store. For example when using the Sweet V5 ROM, I cannot get Firefox nor Chrome from the market. It says my Galaxy Note is incompatible. Do you have any idea of CSC management ?

How to know which firmware to download

So I have GT-N7000, it's a 2.3.6 currently, and I want to update it to ICS, my baseband is (according to my About phone in Settings):
Model number: GT-N7000
Android-Version: 2.3.6
Baseband-version: N7000XXLB2
Kernel-version: [email protected]#2
Is there a way to update it to ICS (I'm not sure which one to downoad from sammobile) but not bricking or damaging it?
Thanks a lot you guys!
Flash any ics stock rom from samfirmware..
I'd you want ics for your country there's a option in samfirnware where you can enter the detaiks of your phone and samfirware will show your update
It has a brand, os, model and country selection, but I'm not sure which country this came from, so basically all I know is baseband number, so I was wondering is there any way to depict native origin of off that?
But, you say that any ICS firmware from sammobile firmware downloads section for GT-N7000 is good to install?
Thanks buddy !
Yes any icsvis fine..but be sure it's for gt n7000 and not the american note

Depends on if you want a tuned ROM and/or kernel, or if you want a full stock ROM.
