Hey everyone,
I rooted my nexus one when it was 2.2, now im trying to update to 2.2.1. However the OTA update wasnt taking, it failed and the installation aborted everytime. I search forums and found one saying to factory reset my phone, which i did. Saved everything with titanium backup. Now im stuck with:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernal version:2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2 android-build apa26#1
Build nuumber: EPE76
One problem is i do not get an OTA update to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1. Also i did a manual update with signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip and it fails and installation aborts. How can i get back to at least 2.2, but preferably 2.2.1.
Also when trying to restore my apps from titanium backup, it tells me my phone is not rooted, but I still see the little "padlock" unlocked when i boot my phone.
Thanks, hope someone can help
John

im assuming that zip wont work because im on build epe 76. Whats the best way from here to get to at least 2.2
It sounds like you need to do some reading. Look at the Nexus One wiki that's linked at the top of this forum. Read everything it has to say, then re-read.
Your questions are answered.
Not to mention the wrong forum. This is development, not Q&A.
Cheers and g/l
wiki page doesnt help at all
just read the wiki page twice, as you said. There is nothing about how to fix this issue. Sooooooooooo.....??????
i have 50+ forums and googled this issue 10+ times, not having any luck....If you cant help can you direct where i can find help????
Lol, the wiki wont show you the exact issue being resolved. You need to think between the lines, do some problem solving. Nobody on this forum is going to spoon-feed you the answer you look for.
Everything I know about the Nexus One (and Android in general) is from these forums. You aren't looking hard enough if you can't find the info you need.
So please, have enough sense next time to at least post in the correct sub-forum, instead of coming in filled with piss and vinegar making a fool of yourself.

1. You haven't given enough information for anyone to help direct you.
2. It sounds like your bootloader is unlocked, but you lost root. Or maybe your recovery (whichever that is) won't allow an unsigned zip.
3. But once again, this is the wrong forum. This is not the place for you to go into further detail. All it will do is piss people off who are trying to work on development, but have to wade through beggar spam. So please stop.
this is the wrong thread for what you need...mod needs to move it. Take it easy guys, he's just looking for help.
If you have Terminal Emulator from Market installed, type this:
at the $ type su ($su)
it should change to # sign
at # type whoami (#whoami)
it should replay back with "root"
If not, you have lost root and you will need to re-root your device. Please open a thread in Q&A to ask further questions.
Have a revo, flashed gingervolt on it and now it just boots into recovery everytime I boot. I've tried flashing stock on it, that stock gingerbread that has the boot and the system in it... nothing works... just keeps going into recovery. (Clockworkmod Recovery). In addition when I try power and volume up nothing happens, goes into Clockworkmod not the LG recovery.
I have no idea what to do Any help would be appreciated.
Forget it... you know I searched for 10 or 15 minutes easy looking for the solution. I post the question, and 5 minutes later (ok 15 or so) I find the answer in another thread. Thanks anyway (Haven't tried the solution but it looks solid).

This link by the cubed fix it. Apparently it is a bug involving factory reset. You just flash this file and it fixes everything. Thank the cubed if you find it useful, I did.

Please Post in the Correct Forums and Read THIS
Moving to General
Here is a link to the solution thread (I posted it up there as well). Since it is almost an exact duplicate of my **issue and it is posted in Development by thecubed I was just following his lead. -P.S. thanks for the large public outting that I'm a noob I appreciate it and agree that the private msg you left me (that was much nicer) was not sufficient. <big grin>

P.P.S. Please for the love of God when you move thecubed's post to General, include the big "You are a noob don't post in the wrong section" on his too. I always love a good giggle when I come here

All the info you need is in these forums, as far as I know. Explaining your problems as clearly as possible and all the steps you've taken in causing and fixing those problems is probably a good way to start. Then after we understand your problem, maybe we can help you.
I've seen you post in other threads and I still don't know what is wrong that you need help with. Sorry, but I don't use Gtalk with people I don't know.
If you want, you can PM me with this info, and I'll see what I can do to help. It's ok to screw up your device and admit you need some assistance, and I know there are some smart people willing to give advice. But don't just ask for help and give no other info, because we have better things to do than guess your problem ;-)

In case anyone else reads this, the problem (as far as I know) was replacing the stock build.prop file which is found in the folder called /system, under your root folder, which looks like '/' in your file browser of choice.
The point of replacing your build.prop is to fool your phone into thinking it is an XT883, which will allow the phone to use the radio.img found in the tutorial about using the D3 on gsm. If you perform the steps in the tutorial (found in the dev forum), you must perform all of the steps, including unzipping the .zip file which can be downloaded in that thread, placing the build.prop file on your sd card, then moving that file to your /system folder using a file browser, such as Root Browser. That's the app I used, so I recommend it as working well for this task.
After replacing your build.prop, you can follow the rest of the steps, which include fixing your settings. If anyone else needs help with this, PM me and I'll give you the step by step. I'll also PM the OP of the tutorial so that he will clarify in his post.
Basically my phone is stuck on the GT-N7000 Samsung Logo screen.
Would love if somebody could make my day and tell me how I can restore my phone with it's pictures.
I know this is not as simple as it sounds but I have read a thread that explains something about non-wiping ROMs / upgrade ROMs? Is this true?
Notes:
I have a stock ROM (I bought the phone via Amazon Germany though).
Never tried to place another ROM onto phone.
I cannot go into recovery mode.
I am able to go into download mode.
I have heard of this ODIN but not familiar.
Heeelp!
This is a good thread to learn about odin

If you do not want to listen and do not want to read yourself (at least the first few posts with the tutorials) then why do you cry for help?
And answer in such an idiotic behavior?
Don't you think that it is this way of ignorance that is resulted in your "bricked" device?

Are you kidding me!? You're honestly a senior member? Calling my response idiotic is probably a little ironic. Let me explain why...
Firstly, I'm not going to waste too much of my time replying to you but my concern was that during the 501 pages of the thread something may changed from the start, I can't be sure how accurate the first posts are, which I feel is a valid point 1.
As for the bricked device, the phone became bricked itself due to no fault of my own, other people have experienced the same thing, I have avoided popping ROM's onto the phone to avoid voiding my warranty, I did not tamper with anything, this is valid point 2.
If you have nothing positive to contribute to this thread please refrain from adding any further comments, or take a chill pill and use a little empathy senior member.
I should also add that:
- I eeked at the 501 pages - I was not being condescending.
- I believe that there is a difference between ROM's that completely flash the whole memory and upgrade ROM's that will retain, hence why I asked the question, about 'upgrade' ROM's.
If you want to pull the pictures from the phone internal memory you can use a pc program called adb.exe, but you need to be in download mode.

Except he is right. This has been discussed. You're method is to read that thread. This is a website (or at least is supposed to be) for users that are willing to read the guides people have slaved to create
Everything you need to know is there.
And absent hardware failure, a phone doesn't brick itself.
Read dr.ketan thread on how to flash a stock ROM via PC Odin from download mode. The guide is current. This is the only answer you will receive here.

Thanks Ranger Captain! Much appreciated. I'll look into this!
The expert on adb.exe is a user nemed studacris. I think it would be ok to PM him and get the specifics of the command.
Roughly, connect the phone to the pc in download mode, open a command window, navigate to your adb directory, type adb device to confirm the connection, then type adb pull \directory name\all files /directory on pc and the files will transfer from the internal phone memory to your pc.

When you come across a 501 page thread and say the answer is there and current for people who are willing to read there is a bit of a problem here.
I was hoping a tech Guru on here who is familiar with my problem could help summarise key points relevant to my problem.
I am willing to concede after some of you have eluded to much of the information is in the first few pages. Thank you.
As for bricking - there has been corruption of what seems to be the firmware, which not is of the question, what point are you making? If you read a few other threads, others have experienced similar issues with attempting to update their ROM's.

Hey man. All you need to do is read the first post of dr.ketan's thread. Good luck. If flashing a stock ROM via PC Odin doesn't work, per the isnstructions on that thread, I will personally be more than glad to help. But that IS your first step.
There is nothing to summarize. Follow the procedure in that thread OP. You don't have to read ANY of the thread except the guide. If it doesn't help you get up and running, feel free to PM me or post here. But when someone tells you to read a thread you must realize they are probably referring to the Original Post. If you are told to search (xda users rule #1), then that is a different story. For example, if you said 'how do I Use an OTG cable', I would say 'search this thread for the keyword otg'. Nevertheless, that is not the case here. There is a specific guide in the OP of that thread that describes what your first step to fix your device should be. Once that has been exhausted, please feel free to ask for further guidance.
Take care and good luck.

I was reading. There is something not quite clear. Although the thread tells you a lot about how to do something, it doesn't say what it does or what it's for.
I've downloaded the software but further threads highlight that data may still be deleted.
Would you mind advising of how the thread can ensure that my data will not be deleted?

Which data you refer to?
Question: is your data nor backed up via Google?
As for SD card data, like photos, is that what you're talking about?
