[Q] Alien Revolution 2.1 RAM & wifi - LG Optimus 2x

Hey all,
Recently I tried out the latest Alien Revolutions and I noticed the RAM is 421mb total. Obviously I'm a noob but I'm assuming that the SWAP script is making the RAM so high, is that right? I did type in "free -m" in the terminal and it came up as Swap: 0...
So is it swap? zram? ram hack? Or just an amazing ROM?
Hei1125 says "RAM optimizations" in the change log.
The wifi doesn't work, but when you flash the kernel hei1125 suggests, it does work fine, but the total ram goes back down to the usual, near 350mb.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Sam

There is a kernel hack which gives back certain amount of memory back to the system (but sometimes at the expense of some things not working). So I think this could be the effect of the kernel memory hack.
Which kernel have you flashed? I believe that originally the AR rom contained vadonka's HOC_OTF_48.

kernel hack
Thanks for getting back to me. I asked the maker of the ROM and he said the same thing as you, a kernel hack. I'll do some research into what that is exactly.
You mentioned that the kernel uses less ram for the OS, does that mean that the ROM will have the same processor efficiency as other kernels without the ram hack? Does ram hack use more battery is what I'm trying to ask.
I'm not sure which kernel it was, I flashed the swiftextreme 48 2011 2011 kernel, it keeps the memory at 420mb total, although this has done nothing for my available ram, it's still at 195mb.
Thanks again

Compcache & VM Heap Size settings

I'm just wondering what settings people are using for Compcache and VM heap size on Gingerbread.
I'm basically trying to get FPse to run as fast as possible on nFinityGB 0.7 and wondering if altering these settings will have any affect.
My device as follows:
CPU @ 710Mhz
Governor = ONDEMAND
Compcache - Disabled (just experimenting)
VM heap size - 12M (just experimenting)
Doesn't seem to be any faster than the defaults... but no slower either. Any other ideas? Airplane mode doesn't make much difference either. Default settings give the same sort of results.
Compcache - 18%
VM heap size - 24M
FPse runs pretty well. Just a few fps off being properly playable.

Newer cm release support the latest compcache module.Let's ask arco68 to try include it his kernel..there will be improvement or a big crash?

You're referring to zram? I've been looking into it a bit, but there doesn't seem to be any backports for it yet. Could be that it's too dependent on stuff in latest kernels, so it can't be backported. I hope it can though.

Yeah. compcache 6 + 2.6.29 patch could work.. but I don't know how to help..
Probably the patch is not for the goldfish kernel

Compcache is already included in my kernel, and has been from the start.
Zram is a newer version of it, but is only for kernel 2.6.35+ I think.

You included the vers. 5, zram is the 6.. If I'm not wrong..
Compcache 0.6.2, which is the last version made that works with kernel 2.6.29. After that it was renamed to zram and made for newer kernels. Dunno what version they're at now though.
I shouldn't have thought that's going to have much performance impact on fpse (psx emu) though is it?

Probably not very noticeable. Larger heap size is good for apps that uses a lot of memory. Compcache compresses a portion of the memory as swap, giving more total free mem available.

[HELP] increase memory in milesone (RAM)

i have a cm7 iceandfire rom on my milestone and i only have like 20-40mb of memory i want to increase it to 100 i heard of rumors of it being possible any ideas?
Install TheFroyoMOD (or another MOD on Froyo, eg CM6) and you will have free RAM.
GB eats to much RAM and Milestone/Droid have not that mutch.
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
awn i wanted to keep cm7
Try supercharging it, follow this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 it won´t give you 100mb+ but it´ll make it way smoother, and if thats still not good enough for you then you might follow mblaster4711's advice and go for either froyoMod or the latest update to CM6.

Which X8 tweaks are worth effort?

Hello!
Im currently running GDX v28b with alfs v8a kernel. I didn't make any big tweaks so far, only overlocking and SuperCharger.
Is making ext3/4 and swap partitons on microsd worthy? Can i really make my X8 faster thanks to this? I heard swap can shorter microsd life-span. I have 16gb 6-class microsd card. How much can it shorten it's life-span?
What are other tweaks i can do to make my x8 faster?
Thanks for the answers!
yes, i uninstalled the unused apps too. i'm just wandering how could i do more . thanks for your help and i'm waiting for more opinions
Actually the ROM you are using is pretty much tweak for performance and I guess adding more that your not certain of might cause problem to its performance. Btw do you play on your phone a lot?
No, i don't play a lot, but sometimes when i have to quit one app and load another one the phone is very laggy. That's why i thought about applying some more tweaks to the phone .
Thats normal because of our device low memory. You can try Ram Manager.
btw supercharger is tweaks too,so many tweak include there are 3g turbo charger, kickass kernelizer, flush engine,etc...
but if you need more tweak you can try "jimdem droid"...its easy to installing

i heard that i shouldn't use Ram Manager with supercharger script. Nevertheless i used Ram Manager once, but for me the phone was just... slower. now im trying to make a swap and ext3 partitions, but i can't make it. maybe someone could help me? CLICK

How to speed up jelly bean performance?

Hi there, I have question how you guys speed up your jelly bean performance on ace?
Maybe u will tell something new for me
For example I:
* Use memory managment - zRam to max, allow purging of assets ON, kernel samepage merging ON
* Limit background processes to 2-3 (in dev options, unfortunately after every reboot that needs re-apply)
* After reboot I try to force stop every non-system app, whats running
(using task manager to see whats running)
* Using only one widget

And at this moment my task killer shows 140mb free on CM10.1 (bieltv.3, RC2 release)
Maybe you should flash Adrenaline Engine and install Seeder + Greenfy to keep ram usage to low level. The first two things I mentioned works very well on stock GB and make the phone really fast. Also you can use CAREFULLY Pimp my rom to apply mods to speed up more the rom. Be aware that you can't do that much because the phone is very not powerful and the rom is not optimized at 100% so above some level of smoothness you can't go. P.S. You can also use a swap partition or the kernel patcher Memod+Swapall.
Inviato dal mio GT-S5830
Pushing free mem into 50 or 75MB, smartassV2 or smartassH3 + sio, Greenify, replacing Launcher2 with the launcher from XperiaZ.
For swap I use Swapper 2 from Google Play.
Is it best of kind? and how good is performance?

I am sorry. I did not see your post.
Do you mean Swapper 2?
It is just an interface. You need a kernel which supports swap (like the one of the Cm 10.1 builds or erikcas' AOKP ROM). The performance depends on the kernel. The app just invokes busybox commands.
There are few apps that manage swap. If you want a simple one for swap files, use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.azasoft.free.swapper
If you want it to have more features and/or support a swap partition (which is faster and better as it is mounted even if the phone is connected to a PC). The biggest advantage besides that is its feature to clean the swap partition when it gets full. If the app does not (like the first one), it will be lagging like hell.
So I recommend Swapper 2. :good:
However, make sure that you have a class 10 SD card. Other classes will slow down the phone. And the life of the card will be decreased due to the many read and write actions.
You can transform you rom on a Bareboned Rom to make it as fast as possible, e.i. deleting all useless apps!! instead of using apps to freeze others as Greenify, TB, AndroidTaskers... that of course is runnig in background, so the best way to stop all background processes is removing the app that produce these processes xDDD

Yes, probably one of the best methods. However, you will have to do that again for every new release.

JB is already faster than GB.
Thats enough for ace.

lol but gb is much more stable i think.. thats why some users prefer stock roms instead latests jb roms

Internal memory

Hi,
I'm going to install new ROM for my Galaxy Mini. Did any of the latest ROMs include build in solution for shortage in internal memory?
If yes - which ROMs? If not what's the best way to resolve the lack of memory issue.
thank you,
Moshe
What kind of latest ROM ? Because there's a hundreds ROM.
There are some roms with built in script to mount. You have to found them on your own read description.
OR
Easy way, make partion of your sdcard use link2sd app available on store and link everything to sd.
I helped? Lol Here twitter.com/_aakashasaj go follow.

Low Internal Memory?
This is what I do, And I'm on 4.0+
- Use DroidSail App2SD Lite and transfer almost all the apps to SD.
- Use Greenify on the apps to normalize battery life.
- Use Sd Speed Increase set to 2048 kB settings. [Everything mentioned applied on boot]
- Use kernel [Badass Kernel] with smartassv2 governor and lower the minimum frequency to 122 MHz.
- And oh, delete most of the bloatware using RootAppDelete.
This makes it real real good and is way better than what I had bought it as.
Hope it helps!
