[Q] Quality of cypress vs synaptics touchscreens - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
My X8 is currently lying on my table all the time, gathering dust, so I thought it might be fun swapping out the synaptics touchscreen for a cypress one!
I find that the synaptics digitizer feels really flimsy and plasticky, can anyone who's used both give me an indication of how cypress compares? Does the cypress digitizer give it a much more solid feel, and have better touch accuracy? Or is the X8 screen just poorly built?
Thanks.

Maybe there are some minor differences between these two but u wont be able to feel them i mean touch sensitivity, quality etc.
The thing is that cypres digitizer has real dual touch after hacking

Well it is kinda the same. But cypress is better because it really supports Dual Touch and on the Synaptic it doesen't.

Mmm, well I find that my X10 mini pro's screen is very nice to use, and that's cypress. I find my X8's screen not very sensitive, and it just feels... cheap. :/
I'll ask around and see if any of my friends have an X8 with a cypress digitizer.

Its not screens its digitizer.
you need to be swapping digitizers not screens

dualtouch
well, one thing is that you can have real dualtouch/multitouch in cypress.
but our awesome devs are developing synaptic drivers aswell

cypress > synaptics thats true, but with synaptycs you can use only Pinch-To-Zoom in Browser\Gallery. You can use it ONLY IN A FEW apps (Like a Cut the rope) but in FIFA it doesnt work :|

X1 in X2 housing possible??

soooo xD do you think that we can transfer X1's hardware to X2's housing xD
I really dont see how that would be possible ? i mean, phone internals are designed so they'll fit into their own particular housing. Just because the X2 is also a Xperia doesnt mean the X1's internal is going to fit inside it. So unless you're considering doing some heavy modding... i dont think its gonna be possible
ok I was just asking xD and btw i've just noticed that x2 has 3.2 and x1 3 inches screen and that camera is placed differently but it seem to me that they are based on the same motherboard so i didn't see why i couldn't do it since x2 looks so nice xDDD
yeah, at first i wasnt sure if i liked the X2 looks but i do think it looks great now, but so does the X1. I just wish there was an all-black version. I hate how the black version is like half black half silver. The X2 does have pretty much the same specs as the X1 but i really dont know man, do you have an X1 or X2 ? buy a housing, try it and let me know
actually I was thinking of buying x2's case but what if it wouldnt fit, then it would be a huge waste of money since these cases are rare and expensive anyway if i try something like this I'll let you know if it worked xD

Anyone here know where to look for a cypress digitizer please leave a link in this thread.
My wife have one with cypress digitizer and its great. Works better than my own legend. Need to look for a few to upgrade my friends x8.
With links where to get them will be the best upgrade for your x8 and w8.

There is no way you can buy cypress digitizer for x8, if it comes with phone you are lucky.
Huh??? Its the chip inside?

For those with Synaptics digitizer, yes, it's a sad trouth. The digitizer chip is inside the motherboard, the digitzer board (screen) itself are the same for all X8, but what decodes the touches is the digitizer chip, but it is embended in the PCB.
I'm lucky tough, 'cause my is Cypress
Ha ha ha... guess buying an x8 need luck... lots of them...
This also apply to w8 I assume.

That's lucky for me I have cypress and i have activated dual touch
sent from my xperia x8 using xda premium
Actually, the controller is in the flex cable of the digitizer, not the motherboard
There are lots of sellers on ebay selling the touch panel, one might ask which digitizer they use.
Psyionx, just out of curiosity, what did you think the cypress digitizer was?
Sent from my E15i using XDA App
so it is possible to just buy a touchscreen for X8 with the cypress digitizer to get dualtouch?
Why you think digitizer chip is on PCB? It's not true, show me the proof first.
I've disassembled my X8 and I know it's on touchscreen's flex.
No I just wasn't sure. I accually hoped that the chip is on the flex cable.
I only asked cause I was thinking about getting a new digitizer from ebay or some place to get a cypress digitizer. Is it easy to take the digitizer out of the front cover?

I don't think anyone tried it.. it is glued, i just don't know how much force you need to make to separate it.. Buying a digitizer already with the front cover might be easier..

Ok thank you I'll contact some ebay users and report back here if i have news.
Yeah, it's glued very hard. But if you manage to remove it, you can donate it for trying to develop real dual touch on Synaptics digitizer.
Also I believe the front plastic isn't really digitizer, it's only protecting piece covering the TS, so you might try removing it from the inner side of front cover.
is there any way to see if the digitizer is cypress or synaptics without haveing to put it into a phone?

If that's true maybe it identify the second finger with a digital simulation like with the one of Doixanh, or maybe the chip that is better than the one of the xperia x8, the only thing I want to know is why but why the freaking people of SE doesn't want to put the dual touch feature to this machine, they say hardware limitation bull****, the E15i supports it, and there are phones that are crap in front of this and they have Android 2.2 at least, so what is the problem of SE.
And if you don't believe me that there are crappy phones with 2.2 look at this http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i5500_galaxy_5-3371.php
Ps
I'm just a little pissed off about that xD
ok I found a seller on ebay from the UK
HERE (HERE for germans)
He said they were Cypress (CY8CTMG) ones.
I will buy one and report if it works.

I9023 Touchscreen glass replaceable?

Good mornin' (At least for europeans^^)
Somebody knows whether to get the Touchscreen glass and it is possible to replace it? Have replaced it on many ios devices and others. So I think I have the needed skills. Reason is my NS falled to the floor as I wanted to put my keys in the pocket but there was the cable of my headphones too .. anyone has some links for a tutorial and for a Shop 2 buy the glass?
Greetings from Hamburg, germany
Sent from my oxygenized Nexus S with br41n.
im pretty sure the super amoled screens are attached to the glass, so to replace it you have to buy the screen/digitizer/glass as they come in one peice. not sure about the slcd versions though
I9023 is with super clear lcd
yep it is the SLCD version.. damn I already thaught so that I have to replace it all in one.. okay, thankz guys!
Mate new screen cost only 52$ about 35 Euro so it is cheap and replace is not so hard
yeah, but in germany the screens are at 50-100 euros, and in the end.. 50 euro is okay but 100€ is it not worth.
will look after good and low prices, thanks
same problem here, although i dont feel it loss sensitivity to touch or anything, just a huge crack on the middle of the screen.
someone knows where to buy a glass for nexus s in portugal?
thks in advance
look at this thread forum(dot)xda-developers(dot)com/showthread.php?t=1063148
and this youtube link
youtube(dot)com/watch?v=zpfE15Xw_os&context=C26c49ADOEgsToPDskLL-yEGmEnXU0KVUs2_Esgx
by the way I didn't have luck to get the SLCD touchscreen working, even that I tried three of them, nor this guy in youtube video.
If you get it working, please share.
Cheers,
Anyone found a solution for this problem yet?

[Q] Screen

I have a question, is there a way to remove the scratches from x8 screen?
My screen really looks bad and the worst part and that makes me trully sick is that it wasn't even my fault! You know when friends ask you to see your cell and send it straight to the floor? That's it.
Would it help if I used screen protectors now? I heard it disguises it.
Thanks in advance!
(Sorry about the english I'm stil learning )

I don't think it has a screen protector, if it does it isn't noticeable. I remember it came with one but I took that out many months ago.
Thanks anyway
I have screen protector from ebay or dealextreme (not sure any more) and it's almost unnoticeable visualy and touchscreen works with no difference.
If phone came with one already on, I have 2 now and have no problem with that
If you want to change it you only need to change digitizer. It's not too expensive. You can put cypres one for real dual touch if you don't have one now.
Sent from my X8 using XDA App
Thanks! I'll check fo prices of the digitizer. Mine is synaptics (I think it's called that), do you think cypress is better? I know it has errors with some roms/kernels.
Bro,you will have real dual-touch with cypress:>.

This should have been asked in the Q&A forum.
The difference between the galaxys and note is that the note has a wacom touchscreen & pen. The galaxys only has a touchscreen and does not support pens like the note has.

i dont think you understand me,
I repair smartphone,s and sell them. Normally a touchscreen contains of a plate of glass (digitzer) and the lcd screen that is under the digitzer. so you look trough the digitzer at the lcd and the digitzer register what you are doing with you finger. So, the galaxy S1 en the galaxy S plus has a screen within a digitzer or somthing. On ebay you can buy glass frontplate (not a digitzer a glass frontplate) what fell over the screen, but i dont find a video how you can instal these. normally you can simply put the lcd and the digitzer out but if you do that by a s1 you scratch the screen.
From what I can see there, it is a single unit. So I would guess you could not only replace the digitizer.
As i recall they are glued together and really hard to separate, that's also why u rarely see dust and moist under the glass of the sgs
I had a broken glass and i had to change the hole unit. It is very expensive. Glass and lcd costs 170 €.
Sent from my GT-I9001 using XDA
wintel is right. The digitizer is fused/glued onto the LCD screen directly. There's no easy way to separate the two. Theoretically you can buy the two separately, but then you will have to find a way to glue the two together yourself.
