You can try out PowerAmp. The single button can be configured to pause at one push, next track with 2 pushes and previous track with 3 pushes I believe.
I found you can only rewind or forward using the stock music player

Well, in about 4 seconds with a Google search I found this discussion. In which they're talking about an app called beyondpod, which is configurable and let's you set what you're trying to set.

well i tried all the methods and apps mentioned there...none of them seem to work. anyone has a note and uses default player ? only action that seems to wirk is double click which goes to next track...tripple click either pauses or starts next track then pauses. single click does what it should, it pauses and resumes play. i love the stock player i do not like winamp or any other player..

Hopefully your boss is not reading this
is there no one able to help
I successfully use the buttons through poweramp, and find that I have to click the button more slowly than with previous phones. make sure they're very distinct separate clicks

That allow you to skip forward/backward 5 or 10 seconds with a single button press? (In other words, *NOT* using the progress bar.)
I tried TouchMusic but that one is pretty horrible.
Are there any others?
The lack of a substantive Music player on Android is maddening. It stems from the g1 not having a 3.5mm jack.
There isn't one. Feel free to yell from the rooftops that the music player isn't good enough.
With Rachel already announced, it would be hot if someone could make something like what SE showed as a media player.. uh?
isnt it possible a player can be brought over?
We still have to wait for the ROM to be out somewhere, so the player can be ported out of Rachel =(
I'd be shocked if the Racheal Music Player wasn't dependent of the framework.
No, someone needs to take a long hard look at the iPhone's music player, clone it, and let us all move on.
What really bothers me is the lack of an ability to rate songs and then have those ratings synced. I like to put brand new albums on my music player and then rate them 1-2 stars for immediate removal next sync, 3 stars for "further evaluation" and 4-5 stars for keepers. I can't do this with my android.......

The default music application lets you do that by holding the next/previous track button, if that's what you're looking for..
Rock on music player.
E-mail the developer of this music player. He is extremely helpful in trouble shooting bugs in his software. I would imagine he would be interested in developing new features into it as well.
His name on XDA is fabrantes.
Here is the thread about the app:

Unfortunately no. I'm looking for a precise skip forward/backward 5/10 sec with a single button press, not fast forward/rewind seeking.
I'm guessing not a single app on the market does this then?

i bet it's a 5min thing for a developer to edit this in the default Music app...
go bug normsoft makers of Pocket Tunes to port their app to android.
PTunes is the best music player back in my Palm days... they have already ported it to WinMob and Iphone
Just to throw it out there Meridian is possibly the best media player for android and the wiget it comes with is also great. I do agree that the phone should have came with a normal headphone jack instead of the stupid usb wire that you need now.
I use my Atrix BlueTooth in my Pick Up for all calls. When I switch the stereo to BT Audio the Atrix automatically starts Music Player. Is there a way to shut this off? It is a pain in the butt when I want to watch HBOgo movies or listen to Pandora....I have to pause the Music Player because there is no way I know of to shut it down.

No problem, I see so much outrageous spelling and grammar on these forums. Don't try to correct someone if your post is going to look so atrocious.
that must be a 3rd party music player doing that. when BT audio connects to my phone it doesnt auto play (but I would like it to)

Had the same problem. Here's my fix:
Download AutoStarts from Market. Open the app and scroll down to "Media button pressed". Open up that option, and disable the Music app. Save, exit, reboot and you're done!
Downside is that AutoStarts costs $1.

Default music player doesn't allow this. Grab RingDroid from the Play Store.

you could put the mp3 in a "Ringtones" folder, then pick the file from sound in settings.
With ringdroid i can only set it as a notification, can't use it as ringtone.
And tried to copy the file to the Music folder and media/audio folder but i can't see it in my settings
Default music player does let you set the ring tone-
Just "long press" on the track and the option appears:

Is the Smartwatch any good?
Good question, I won my smart watch in a phones4u comp, I thinks it's great but not sure I would feel that way if I paid full Price.
If you set the clock display to always on the battery won't last a day. I have it set to come on when double tapping the screen. Not so handy if your struggling with the shopping!
Other than that it's pretty impressive, being able to quickly glance at notifications saves taking the phone out of your pocket constantly and mp3 control, whilst basic, is a nice touch.
It does however have a detrimental effect on your phones battery and keeps disconnecting from the Z (worked perfect on the S) maybe the next update will sort it.

It does not have a speaker so no good as a hands free, You can answer and reject calls but only any real use if your use a blue tooth headset- or as I do a blue tooth car stereo.

Wow my bad. Never even saw that option in the long press menu, then again, I don't long press random things.

To set one of mp3s as a ringtone you don't need to download anything extra. Just go to the sound setting and on the top right hand side of the screen press the Music Symbol and then you'll have access to all your music on your pone.
Revert back to default ringtones folder
GO TO->Settings->Apps->all->Tap on THREE dots & reset apps preferences.
NOW GO TO-.SETTINGS->SOUND->UNDER RINGTONES&VIBRATIONS, TAP->PHONE RINGTONES->TAP SIM1/SIM2->U'LL FIND SOUND PICKER,FILE COMMANDER & SO;SELECT SOUND PICKER TO SELECT XPERIA'S PRELOADED RINGTONES,THAT'S IT!
Hi guys,
Do you have an idea how to skip tracks from headset controls?
I have the Klipsch s4a and the Klipsch app and set by default the app is supposed to skip tracks on double click, but instead the redial feature is called.
This worked fine with my Nexus but for some reason is not with the HTC one.
Any idea how to make it work?

This also happens to me with the official HTC headset. Strange.
I have a question. I keep reading about volume controls and such with the official HTC earphones, but I do not have those volume control buttons! I just have one button which I believe is for like answering/rejecting/ending phone calls. So do different earphones ship with different variants or something? I have an unbranded and unlocked international HTC One.
I have the stock OS 4.1.2
Refer to my HTC headset thread for some help. You either have to buy the official HTC headset (HTC RC E240) to be able to skip tracks and raise/lower volume (it's a 3 button headset) or use apps that control the headset (they need to contain the HTC Redial Fix as well). Another method is to use Poweramp, without any third party apps, but have google now disabled
I use the Klipsch app which supposed to control the Klipsch headsets. I have tried the power amp, the same thing none of them are working (Google now is off) in all cases double click does a redial instead of skip track.

Raise headset button priority in PowerAmp and it should work.
Nope, still the same.
I've noticed it does both things, initiate the redial first then it skips the track.
For some reason the priority is to do a redial first. Not sure where and how to disable that.

Don't have my phone right now but found headset control app I think it's called in another thread here and worked for me and I ended up buying it for 2.99. Allows you to assign multiple taps for different functions and works well with the stock earbuds.

And works best with power amp.
I've made some time to test more the Headset Button control app and for me this is not working properly (I'm using Klipsch s4a headsets), os 4.1.2 stock + root with the default Music app.
And I have some issues with the skip commands (double click and 3 clicks)* as they don't seem to work.
I have tried* all combinations of slow or very slow from advanced.
I've enabled the debug mode and it seems like the double clicks are not recognised.
The single click is recognized which pauses the song.
But I've noticed something,* the double click is working only if I perform a pause first (single click)* then the double click is recognized.
If I do not pause this first then the double click is not recognised.
Is there a fix or a workaround for this?
My issue is related to default HTC music app only.
Is working fine with other apps like Google music player.
Disable HTC ONE redial functionality

While on the subject, when I use Bluetooth audio in the car, the samsung player automatically plays instead of google music. I have selected google music player as the default but the samsung player always starts to play. I am not able to deactivate the samsung player app. Is there another work around to not let it play at all?

That doesn't seem to work for me. Only way it controls it at all is if I start playing the music on the phone first, which is rather annoying. Am I doing something wrong?

Also works perfectly with BubbleUPNP.
I use my phone as the renderer and my tablet as my interface/playlist when driving and I can use my watch to skip/volume/etc.

yes, that is how it is working for me as well.
The best solution i have found is to freeze the stock samsung music app with something like titanium or rom toolbox. Granted you need to be rooted for this but it works perfect for me. I workout with a set of lg tones and control everything from my gear. I can confirm it also works to start music from the gear rather than opening google play music first.
