So recently, my Nexus One's LCD cracked while playing cricket.. BOHOO! So I took it to the repair shop, and he fixed my LCD. YAYY! But the repair guy messed up my power on button. Before it used to be so soft and easy to turn on, but now it only turns on if i press it on a certain spot, which is very ANNOYING! I took it back to him and he didn't really fix anything. I just want to ask you if you know any easy solution to this. No, not the trackball wake. Like would it be easy for me to open my phone up and repair the button myself? Or do you think i'm out of luck?
Thank you

well, sadly; my power button has given up finally.
Can anyone help me out by telling me how i'm supposed to turn my phone off completely. I'm using an app which allows me to turn my screen off and lock the phone, but is there one to provide me options for powering off and booting into recovery, bootloader etc? It's essential because i need to be able to turn my phone off to switch my battery packs, and to install new firmwares. Thanks.
Most importantly, how would i turn on my phone when it's completely turned off, since the power button wouldn't do any good
Try "Quick Boot" to switch 4-ways reboot function.
To turn on your N1, simply connect it to charger, whether it is wall, usb, or powerbank one. When the led lights up, pull your battery. As soon as the led down, insert your battery immediately.
My N1 has been "happily" running that way for months.

My power button is on the fritz now too. Is there someone who fixes this? Can I make a insurance claim?

I have read many threads about the issues that the Nexus One has with the power button. I feel that my situation is a little different, so I wanted some opinions on this. My power button is completely unresponsive. I can't use it to turn the phone on, wake or lock my screen when the phone is on, etc. My phone has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. I am currently using the track ball to wake my phone, so I'm not having any real issues with day to day operations of my phone. I was completely convinced this was a hardware issue (and still am), but I wanted to be 100% sure it was a hardware issue before contacting HTC. I downloaded Quick Boot from the android market which allows you to reboot your phone, boot your phone into your Bootloader, and boot your phone into Recovery. I decided to boot my phone into Bootloader mode to see if the power button would work there. The power button didn't work in the Bootloader, but neither did the volume button (prior to this test, I had no issues with the volume rocker at all). I pulled the battery and let the phone boot up to check and make sure the volume button was still working when the phone was running. Once the phone was booted up, I had no issues with the volume controls. My question is why would the volume rocker not work in the Bootloader? Also, could the issue that prevents the volume rocker from working in the Bootloader be preventing the power switch from working while the phone is booted up? If there is a chance that it's a software issue, how would I test/correct the issue? Thanks your help.
Most people I have seen complain about that problem, send the phone back for a free repair because it's a hardware problem.
The best way to test it is to flash a stock rom.
Thank you, I will try reflashing the FRF91 stock firmware and see what happens. Thanks.
Definatly sounds like the power button is broken. I had one like that. Send it back for a repair/replacement.
I've checked my immediate suspicion, and it turned out to be correct - so I'm posting the result:
Your power button is actually stuck in "ON" position (pressed).
Anyone can test it, press the power button to wake up the screen, keep it pressed, every operation is allowed in the system and volume buttons work. But when you reboot and try the same in bootloader, having power button ON disables the rest of the buttons.
My screen doesn't wake when I press the power button. Any other ways to check if it's stuck in the "ON" position?
It's 100% determined by your description. The only other check would be running any kind of SW that shows the current key states, and I'm not aware of any such SW.
I've posted the checking procedure for people with working power buttons, so they can verify the findings.
Any way to fix the issue?
If you're technically inclined and can't use warranty, I suppose that getting to the power button and repairing/replacing it wouldn't be very difficult. But no other way I can think of.
has anyone tried to repair this?

A DIY can not be too difficult and you may be best to search YouTube. It can not be too terribly difficult as long as you can open it up and remove any connecting ribbons (I've had to replace my girlfriends iPhone digitizer due to phone falling out of back pocket onto concrete from three+ feet up). As long as you can open it, you're fine. Just going to need to re-seat the button. Good luck!
Greetings,
I had the same power button issue. I was able to wake my phone using the usb cable whenever the screen timed out but otherwise the phone worked 100% of the time in all ways. I got an RMA and label and shot the phone to them in an anti-static wrap with 4 inches of bubble wrap on all sides and foam padding on top of that. The phone was in perfect condition. Well to cut to the chase. I got a quote of 196.00 because they said there was water damage!? I treated that phone better than I treat my own body! There was no water damage when I sent it in. So one of their folks send me images of a phone that has a broken screen, water damage in the base usb port and no inscription. Interestingly all of the angles avoided showing the ein or s/n. My phone has a laser etched inscription with my name and a couple of bible verses. So what am I supposed to do here? Pay another 196 for an 800 dollar phone that had nothing wrong but a power switch? I am a T-Mobile customer and an Android developer in good standing. What the heck!? Can anyone give me a suggestion on how to get this squared away? My only other option is to send them $28 to get the phone back with the same power button issue. It's even under warranty until Jan 28th.

why dont you contact htc of a nearby country and send them the phone? i know it is being done. of course you will have to arrange for the transport but it's still worth a shot imo

Does anyone know if htc india supports the nexus one for after sales service
Hey Guys I really need your help my N1 won't power on for some reason. I really need to get some things off the phone from certain software that I had in case I have to have it repaired or sent away. I'll try to be brief what happened I was exercising with my phone inside a protective case that covers the whole phone and I went to change the next song while listening to music and when i went to push the power button the screen remained black the whole time and I couldn't see anything at all the screen was black the whole time after numerous attempts at pushing the power button. So I held down the power button to try and reboot it and then the music stopped, so then I hit the power button again to turn it on and it hasn't turned on since yesterday. I even took the battery out and let it chill for a min and still doesn't work. when I plug it in to the charger the orange/green light comes on and as well with the USB connection too, but still can get it to power on.
Anyone have any Idea what it could be? I am assuming it's the power button but I am not for sure. Is there anyway to turn it on again in case i need to recover any files, etc. the reason i want to get it to work is that I don't want to have to go through the hassle of sending it away to be repaired if there is some way I can do it myself. I am trying to avoid sending it away with my carrier and I really need to access certain files on the phone if all else fails. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it thnx to anyone.
If it's a power button failure, you can put the phone on charge, then remove and reinsert the battery... keep trying, it will turn on eventually...

it worked the first time I did it thank you so much well just in case it ever happens again how can I back up some things on my apps for example I have notes on AK notepad how would I back those up? and if I wanted to move some software to my sd card that doesn't allow it?
Hey thanks again you are a life saver!!!!!!!!
oh darn the X came up when I powered it up but still nothing just a black screen I got all excited for nothing
i got after 5 or so times of taking the battery out thnx again is there a way or software to make the N1 awake or power off with the trackball without rooting it since the power switch is buggy now?
Titanium Backup will backup apps and data to SD card.
Widget Locker has an option for trackball wake.
LockEnabler will let you turn screen off/sleep.
Quick Boot will let you reboot, boot into recovery etc. Be careful booting into recovery or boot loader, because power button is used to navigate (you have to use adb).

thnx again is there anyway to restart/reboot the phone if it is not rooted via trackball or another button?
Reboot is possible with Quick Boot (as noted above), but if you ever turn off then the battery toggle is your only option...

sorry if there is an answer somewhere, couldn't find it.
my power button on the N1 broke and yestarday I had to turn it off. the battery trick (plug in the phone, take out and re-insert the battery a couple off times) worked once before but now the phone simply stays off.
warrenty is not an option anymore for me.
Is there any another way to turn the phone on without using the power button?
thanks in advance
Edit: just in case, my N1 is an SLCD model and its running 2.3.4.
Wow, I'm having the same problem and was about to make a thread like this.
Running CM7, the phone crashed on me last night and I had to turn it off. I tried the battery trick, but it's never worked for me. The few times I've had to turn the phone off, I was lucky and the power button worked after mashing it for a couple of minutes, but now it's completely dead.
I'm under warranty, but right now I'm without a phone and and need it back up ASAP..
(Mine is also the SLCD model, if it makes a difference.)
Edit: Managed to mash the button to life once again; My phone is back. I think I need to give HTC a call.
Try pulling the SIM and SD, as well as the battery, and re-inserting them all...
The other option - I read a post by a guy whose power button was stuck in the closed position, and he had to open the phone and separate the contacts to get the phone to start...
Also if you are anything into some DIY repair work, there is always a spare part for this http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_kw=nexus one power flex
With the right tools, it shouldn't be to much of a problem replacing this part.
As the title reads I am quite sure that the power button is broke in some way or another on my HTC Desire C. I believe this since the phone is off and I cannot start it up with the power button. The reason I think that it is the power button that is broken and not something else is that when I plug it into the charger the battery shows up on the screen as always and says its charging.
Now, I wont be able to have it in for service in a couple of months and I really need the phone right now.
I could probably live with a broken power button if I just got it to boot up, which is the big problem here! I have googled for answers and found some saying for example that to charge it while popping out/in the battery in different ways will make it automatically boot up but nothing seems to work.
Is there any way to power it up without using the power button?
(Probably a good thing to say that I am not using any kind of custom rom or whatever, everything is stock)
Would be really awesome if someone could help!
My power button is stuck in the fully extended position. The phone is on. So my main problem right now is that I can't turn the phone off, except perhaps with an app. But then if I use an app to turn it off how do I turn it back on? (Maybe I just leave it on forever, charging it when needed, and use an app to restart it from time to time, if one exists? That doesn't seem optimal though.)
Another post suggested sucking on the power button to fix it. It was gross but I tried it. It didn't work.
FYI I bought the phone over a year ago directly from Google.
Please advise.
So how do you wake your screen?
I'd pull it apart and see what's making it stick.
I agree with above, replacing it is very easy too and costs around $5.
