Hi all,
I have tried Barnacle, OpenGarden and Google (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/) tethering apps, and nothing is working for me. My laptop and PC have either shown me connected with either limited connectivity (and no actual internet access) or today with Google's app my laptop said I was connected to a signal-less ad-hoc network...odd I know. Regardless, wifi tether is not working and I have no understanding why. Oddly enough, whenever any of these apps is started and tethering is initiated, the Moto tether icon pops up in the notification bar as if it's waiting to be activated, so that sort of tells me that something isn't right.
I've otherwise had no problems with rooting or the rom, as everything else root I've tried has worked just fine. I'm on .902, rooted, SU, and using the latest Eclipse Rom with safestrap and it's been a smooth ride up until this tether (or lack thereof) issue.
Anyone have any insights on this issue I'm having?
MANY thanks in advance!
Sorry, and just to clarify I have used these apps before on my rooted Eris with no issue. It's only now on the bionic I'm not getting and signal, despite the apps seemingly working (each says they are working).
Thanks!

Now that the Droid 3 has been rooted, has anyone tried any wifi tether apps?
I have tried Barnacle and Wifi Tether but neither will work. Anyone having any luck?
Are you sure Wifi Tether app isnt working? I just rooted my droid 3, and installed wifi tether, and it seems to be working.
There IS a hotspot hack out there that i read in this forum...maybe start a topic asking for Hotspot Hack Droid 3 because i know theres a couple guys that know about it on thisa forum, and a few say that its even better of an app than wifi tether or barnacle and really cool. good luck
I think the stock hotspot app is causing issues, mine keeps saying it loses 3G connectivity.. But then again I am overseas right now, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Wish I could easily remove Mobile Hotspot and try again.. But it appears that it's integrated into Blur, so it's not as easy as freezing the APK.
Neither Barnacle or Wifi Tethering are working on my D3. Pretty sure they did not work for me prior to the recent OTA update and they still do not work. Has anyone had any luck with wifi tether on a rooted D3?
from what ive been reading, you need to do the TBH radio hack. it works no prob
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1182940
I can second, the TBH hack works sweet and is easy to do.
Neither Barnacle or WiFi Tether should work without modding the phone's radio. With the radio hack, all data used looks like mobile data whereas it does not, and thus is blocked, when using Barnacle or WiFi Tether.
I'm looking to do the wifi hack with tbh however before i got changing anything i tried to just launch the mobile hotspot on the phone to see the message that comes up and when i go to check the box to turn it on it errors out with a process.com.android error message or something like that and i havent touched any files yet.anyone have any ideas?
figured it out, guess when i restored all my settings last time, it never changed something back to the way it should have been, oh well got it going now, now to try this hack.

Once you do the TBH hack, head over to the Dev area of the D3 forum (IIRC) and get the tethering app. It's more configurable than the stock Mobile Hotspot app.
I have a very strange problem with my Droid 3 XT862. I've owned it for about a month and right after purchase I rooted and did the TBH radio hack, which worked like a charm. As of last week, though, my wireless tether no longer works. I have tried the built in Mobile Hotspot, Wireless Tether for Root Users, and Barnacle. The only thing that happens is that my computer connects to an unidentified network and will not truly connect to the internet. After this began to happen, I reapplied the TBH hack, but it is still not working. I read around the forums a little bit and heard about CM7 not requiring the hack, so I safestrapped and flashed to it, but the wireless tether still does the same thing. Is there anything I can do to fix this? PDANet still works, but it drains my battery insanely fast.
My XT862's cdma network is not working.
3g and 1x are all wrong.
I can't use them.
but the wifi works correctly.
I flash some roms which downloaded from internet, but 3g and 1x still not work
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

it worked. read below.
did you did something? like trying androidtether?
well i dont know how tethering works. but usually i have seen that tether shares a adhoc network. in the case of the droid 3, it makes an infraestructure network, like having a router.
well while trying the androidtether app in Gingerbread, (which i imported from ICS build, dumb me i know) (in ICS creates i think an adhoc because kerner dont allow native tether) well when i tried that it BROKE my tethering capabilities. i think it switched an internal chip and is not solved by reloading the software software.
summarizing. after 2 SBF and seeing it didint corrected the issue, i installed varios market alternatives including the official ANDROIDTETHER en market, setup and loaded each one of them (barnacle too). the last one was ANDROIDtether. i think this one did the trick, as after not working i uninstalled everything and retried the native one. and it worked.
now i can tether
hope it helps.
I have recently taken the plunge and switched up to Ubuntu 11.10 from the "normal" windows OS. My only source of internet access is my Bionic. I keep loosing my data connection. Ubuntu does several different things at random (from what i can tell). Either shows the connection with no actual connection (according to the notification bar on phone ), continues to try to connect with no sucess, or connects for a period of time(usually a short one) then drops connection. I'm in over my head and honestly don't have time to do the research on my own like i normally do. My bad idea, but asking for help none the less. Running stock .893 with root. Makes no difference if using Wifi Tether or factory Mobile Hotspot which i am paying for. Sorry about huge post....

i'm using windows atm and in the last few days / week or so i've noticed terrible connectivity issues with wifi tether (i usually use the built-in after 'updating' integrity_check with sqlite editor)
issues with all tethering apps AND built-in.
perhaps attempting the OTA while rooted (and it said failed) somehow caused an issue? i'm on 886
or maybe using 40gB/month has gotten me flagged ...
also, I'm wondering if a spike in LTE users (after getting LTE phones over the holidays) in SF has caused speed /bandwidth issues
Hello,
I have been trying to get WiFi Tether Root working on my HTC One but it doesn't seem to want to work. I have watched the video for it and the HTC One for Sprint and the settings he used don't work for me. He did try to support me in the Youtube comments but nothing seemed to work. I did find a WiFi tether app that does work but the phone gets so hot it eventually shuts the WiFi hotspot off. That app is WiFi Tether Router. I have also tried FoxFi and PDANet+ neither seem to work.
Does anyone know how to get WiFi Tether Root working on the HTC One with laptops and Android tablets? Below is the troubleshooting I have already done.
I have the current version of WiFi Tether Root - TrevE Mod
I have tried Device Profiles: Auto, Generic, Generic ICS/JB (wlan0), Generic ICS/JB (wlan1), and others
Enable WiFi Encryption is off
WiFi-driver reload is turned on
With any of these settings the WiFi hotspot turns on, the download and upload sections of the application show no data flowing through or very little. Normally stopping at around 24 Kb download and 124 Kb upload.
Does anyone has a working configuration for this app? Does anyone know of a rom that has the native WiFi hotspot app service check disabled? Or a WiFi Tethering app that works without overheating the phone?
I also tried the fix described in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2266268
Turned on MMS clamping and Routing fix. Still no data going through.
I have the exact same problem as OP. Pretty frustrating. I figure I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what it is or how to fix it. I haven't tried the other tether apps. If you fix it, please post here with your settings and hopefully it will work for me.
Try and install a custom Rom the stock Rom might have disabled WiFi tethering via 3rd party apps

Try this...HERE it worked for me.
I use my Droid Turbo as a hotspot for the Nexus 7 I have installed in my dash. I use Tasker to automate the process, so that it turns on the hotspot when a connection is established with Tablet Talk, and then turns it off when the connection is lost. (Actually, because third party apps are apparently unable to turn off the hotspot, I just have it bring up the wifi settings page.) This worked well on my old rooted Razr Maxx, both on the original firmware and with CM11.
On the Droid Turbo, it will work great for 2-3 times, but after that it will stop sharing the phone's internet connection. The hotspot is still created, the Nexus still connects to the hotspot just fine, but it can't access the internet anymore. I tried a factory reset, and the same issue came up.
I know it's a bit obscure, but any suggestions? At this point I have to restart my phone every day or so to keep it working, which is quite annoying without root.

Its a bug introduced with the last OTA. It *should* be fixed next update.
