[Q] Flash ROM`s - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello I have a SGS with Android 2.3.4 stock rooted with unlockroot and then flashed speedmod kernel with cwm on it.
Can I install ROM`s through CWM like I do on my HTC Legend: wipe data, wipe cache, format /system, wipe dalvik cache and the install zip from sdcard and just flash it?

Hi , yes you can just make sure to follow the instructions in the op of your chosen rom , as some require flashing kernel or other files first.

[Q] What do I need before I flash DarkKnight ICS?

I have to post here because I can't post in the direct thread.

How do I actually install this? I've flashed ROMs before and I assume I can flash this one through CWM but it doesn't say what base OS you need to have running on the phone in order to flash it.
What rom are you currently running? If you are running one of the ics asop roms then I think you are good to go

Hi Guys
DarkKnights Author Recommend
Installation:

3. WIPE CACHE PARTITION.

I Suggest if you come from Stock ROM
Flash a Kernel with CWM (CF-ROOT kernel with Addon, my Favorite) with Odin/Heimdall
Boot into CWM Recovery Mode
WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET
WIPE CACHE PARTITION
Flash latest CyanogenMod (be sure, you do it with full version)
Boot into CWM Recovery Mode
WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET
WIPE CACHE PARTITION
Flash the DarkKnight ICS
Have Fun !
I know it isn't the Best Way, but it surely will do if you like that !
Don't forget to thanks [if it useful was for you]

I was more asking which ROM to come from.
I ended up flashing 2.3.5 JVT and then this over the top of Semaphore kernel.

[Q] Quick question abt changing roms

Hi Folks,
Iam currently running KingDroid v3 on my note with franco kernel 3.0.15 and would like to install Rocket Rom v7. I have kingdroid overclocked and is running very smooth and fast execpt it reboots every now and then (very rare). I am wondering if rocket v7 can be overclocked or would I need to install franco kernal after installing it?
As far as I know I would need to do the following to install Rocket Rom v7:
1 boot into CWM rocovery
2 factory reset, clear cache, clear dalvic cache
3 reboot recovery
4 install rocket rom
5 install superuser through cwm if I loose root after install
Did I miss something? Pls let me know.
Cheers,
Farhan
anyone?
1 Boot in recovery
2 wipe cache + wipe dalvik cache ( optional u can run jbroid kernel cleaner script)
3 Flash abyssnote kernel
4 reboot back in recovery!!!!
5 full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats)
6 Flash the new rom
U should not loose root but if that happens on the first page of Rocket rom there is a file named cwm super su. Download that and flash it in recovery as you would with anyt rom and y should have root back

Once you have successfully installed RR v7, the abyss kernel will be replaced by the kernel in RR v7. If you want you can flash franco kernel. Abbys kernel is for GB rom only.

(Q) cleaning wiping phone - best effective method

hey guys,
which is the best method to clean your phone before flashing a new rom, or maybe bringing your phone to the state it was just after flashing a new rom. i tried data factory reset, wipe cache , wipe dalvik with kernels we have here and i found remainents of zip files i had flashed after setting up my rom and using newer mods. i dont want to format system, preload all the time.
which is your perfect, effective method ? speedmod kernel and its recovery or phillz , then which version ?
thanks

why you dont want format system and preload before flashing rom?
what I do before flashing any rom is:
flash philz kernel
wipe data / cache / dalvkk cache
format / cache / system / data / preload
and then flash new rom
and thats it, with this procedure I have never faced any issue with any rom I have flashed.
usualy I use this method even befoe restoring my nandroid backup.
above methods I using with philz and speedmod, but i prefer philz when wiping and flashing and making backup, because it has nice cwm for doing that. but after I flash new rom I immediatly flash speedmod because it is the better than philz if you drive your new rom, and you are not in cwm at the moment
hope this helped

completely agree with you djoni, but when you are flashing continuously, experimenting a lot ...you know ...this and that,
isnt a data factory reset , wipe cache, wipe dalvik supposed to bring you to that condition just after booting up after a new rom flash ? why were there remanents from a mod i had flashed after using the rom for some time ?

INstalled PHILZ stock Kernel.. THen.. HELP!

Hellooo, I just installed Philz stock Kernel And Now i want to install Rom ANd Before installing it wipe data cache?
and Also Now i must install stock rom or can i install parandroid or such kinds?
or For parandroid its needed to flash siayh or dimiranx kernels?
If you have flashed PhilZ the device is rooted (you have rooted the phone by the PhilZ kernel method right? You'll notice a super user icon in your app drawer) and yes you can install ROMs like paranoid android. And yes before installing the ROM you have to wipe data and cache, which will delete all your data like contacts, apps, etc. So better take a nandroid backup or a backup using Titanium backup and then wipe data, cache and flash the ROM. And by the way siyah and dorimanx kernels are not available for the N7000. So DO NOT flash any such custom kernels which are not meant for the N7000, that can ruin the device. Hit thanks if i helped.
Before installing Paranoid Android, do the following wipes:
Data Wipe/Factory reset
Wipe cache
Mounts and storage => Wipe /system and wipe /preload
Advanced wipe dalvik cache
This will nearly guarantee you a safe and working install.
Dude I swear I have read all your recent threads and posts.
If you don't read the forum stickies your going to kill your device. Talking about siyah kernel are you kidding?
READ THE STICKIES and then post if you don't understand. Or your phone may become a brick.

[Q] Galaxy S I9000 programming help?

I have a Galaxy S GT-i9000 with a baseband of I9000ZWJV4 and MIUI software.
I would like to remove the existing MIUI software and do a clean install of the latest Jelly Bean OS.
The more how-to guides I read, the more confused I get.
I would like to know if I do ;
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache
Advanced > wipe dalvik cache
does this clean my phone of the MIUI software now installed on my phone?
Why does some programming guides say to use a pit file and some do not.
Some guides use PIT, PDA, Phone and CSC files and some do not.
Can I just "Wipe" my phone and install 4.3 Jelly Bean
or do I have to install and upgrade,
2.1 Eclair
2.3 Gingerbread
4.0 ICS
4.3 JellyBean
in that order?
When programming, does the Rom and gapps .zip files go on the phone' sd-card?
I would appreciate it very much if someone would help me install
4.3 Jelly Bean or the latest Jelly Bean on my Galaxy S GT-i9000.
Also what is the most popular Rom for the Galaxy S GT-i9000.
Thank You
No, just install lastest version of official gingerbread, find the cf root compatibile version, then go in recovery wipe data and install your jellybean(except slimbean, its buggy when installing from stock) (when flashing, it will reboot! Dont panic just use vol up+power+home, release when Samsung show up, you will booted in recovery, flash ROM again and reboot) you are done
To install jellybean firmware..
You will need to root the phone first. install cwm recovery, reboot into recovery mode wipe data/factory reset wipe cache wipe dalvik cache format data format data data format cache format system & flash zip files.
Reboot & enjoy...
