I have Motorola XT701 (Milestone,Motoroi or whatever) and I flashed a sbf and the wifi has very good signal but I don't have the android market. If I try to root and install a much better rom with market the wifi signal is very weak. I tried to open the sbf and the CG39.smg (system image) and replaced the app folder in there but when I compile the new sbf I can't flashed because the RSD is giving checksum errors! I had installed even CM7 wich is great at speed and market is present but the wifi has very weak signal. In all roms I had this problem maybe because most of them are for the milestone A853 or A953 or whatever? Should I edit a specific CGxx.smg? The wifi signal is the only problem I have after I root, but I like the phone very much!
Wrong device forum, but I'll help ya.
Install your SBF that's missing the market. Don't modify it.
Once you're up and running, go into your recovery and install the gapps.zip that matches your Android version (gb, ics, etc.) as an update. It will add the Google apps to your ROM's read-only filesystem. (This is done on the device, not from the PC.)
If that doesn't work, you could always just look for a com.android.vending APK....
thanks for the answer, but the problem is the wifi. why is the signal so low now, after 5 months from when i baught the phone?!?!
Maybe problem with indicator
I have seen this in many ROMs. In some ROMs the indicator shows low signal even when the signal strength is just fine. Are you having trouble browsing or downloading stuff?
yes. the wifi is 2lines of 4 at half of meter from the router. at 2 metters is 1/4 lines. do i have to flash something additional besides the sbf for the android or the sbf for cm 7?

Hi all,
Here is an interesting finding from my i9000. I have recently found out this and don't know when or how it is happened..
I am not constanly checking my internet speed but realized a slowness in data transfer in my carrier while I'm on team hacksung's ICS build 12. When I run a test in speedtest.net's app, I couldn't get pass 45 kb/s even though 3g, HSPA and everything was on. I tried to narrow down the problem with trying with a different carrier and sim card; only to find same results. Tried my on sim card on a iphone (I know, but what you gonna do and reached 300-500 kb/s. So the problem was related to my phone...
Next, I decided to revert back to stock rom (XXJVU, latest one) to understand if it is rom related or not.. Apparantely it is not, I couldn't pass 45 kb/s once again. By the way I have formatted all (sdcard, data, datadata..) before flashing stock rom with odin. Now I'm back on ICS Build 13 from team hacksung and guess what..no change.
My basic knowledge limits me trying to investigate the source of the problem further so I kindly ask if someone has ever encountered something similar? I have searched XDA and net but found nothing similar.
Help is much appreciated..
I forgot to mention that I have tried different modems in CM9. No luck with the latest XXJVU modem as well (thanks_silkydude).
Check your build.prop file, it can be messed something... use this..., although written for another device - in my case works.
checked build prop, added the lines in the post you linked but no luck. The only difference is the speed lowered than the original prop. However let me remind you that I couldn't apply the attached zip file in CWM probably because I'm on ICS CWM.
Thanks anyway.
Here is the original build.prop for your review;
Hey guys,
Finally found the Q&A for the milestone. Took long enough
Anywho, After installing CyanogenMod9 (Or 7. This problem's occurring on both)
I can't connect to my service provider anymore. Can't even seem to find them for that matter. Anybody else have this issue? Or can somebody help me with it?
Being able to use the update would be nice.
I am having this issue too.
My Milestone was broken (digitizer) and came back from maintenance services last week so I installed the Cyanogenmod 9 nightly build as soon as I got it. I had some problems installing CM so I just got it working a couple of days ago but it is losing the signal with the carrier in places where it used to work with the Original sbf and even with CM7.
I don't always have 0 signal bars but it can't be a problem with the carrier either.
I still haven't found a solution.
I'm using CM9 nightly build 20120627 (i think I will update to a newer version tonight)
Updating to correct baseband for your country might help. Settings - Advanced - Baseband.

I've already done it. It doesn't change anything.
I have enough signal only when I'm outdoors or standing reeeeeaally close to a window.
But thank you, I think I will install CM7 and see what I can get.
I have an SCH-i800 that I have CM9 (p1c 9.1.0) installed on. I have been using it for several weeks with no problem. Since I am planning on going on a trip, I decided to active pre-paid Verizon service for the tablet. At first, I attempted to activate the device. It went through the phone call but after a minute, it just sat at activating. That is when I noticed that the radio state in the status bar had an X on it. I rebooted the tablet to try again and got "com.android.phone has topped unexpectedly". I re-flashed CM9 (at the time I was using 9.0.0) and it worked again. Activation was not necessary. After a day, the error came up again and radio state went to off with an X. I tried 9.1.0, same problem after a day. I even tried a nightly CM10, same problem. Reboots, cache wipes, permission fixes do not make it work. The error persists until a re-flash of CM. I see on the Support Downloads for the Verizon Tablet, there are two modem files. My baseband version is currently S:I800.0.3V.EI04. I have attempted to "flash" these both via Odin (which failed after a couple minutes) and ZIP (which looked like it worked) to the EC02 on the site, but my baseband doesn't seem to change.
So my first question is, is there a how-to on flashing as I have searched high and low on one for the Verizon Tab specifically, and have yet to find one. Is there a ZIP file that is specifically meant for the i800? I am almost certain this is my problem and that a downgrade (this tablet when stock was updated to the latest Verizon image).
My second question is, has anyone else experienced this? Is there someone that is using a CM9 Verizon tab with EI04 baseband and not have this problem?
Is there a way I can track down what crashed the program? I have tried logcat, but it doesn't appear to give me much detail other than to tell me that it stopped.
And if you ask, no I did not use the Verizon service with this tablet before putting CM9 on it, so I wouldn't know if it worked before.
Any input that someone could provide would be useful. Thanks!
I installed miui 202100 2.3.7 rom on my ropoted moto droid , now I lost all data download, upload, all browser both wifi and 3g,I also lost the ability to boot into recovery, bootloader, rom manager ( pretty much everything rom manager ), I cannot flash another rom or restore any previous nandroid backup. I have full reception on wifi, yet always " no connection. I have no idea what to do. also, there are chinese or some asian language characters all over the place. I am really frustrated with this lost data capability, I have to access my email very frequently for work when I am on the go. anyone, please help me!
If you plug your SD card in to a computer are the files for Open Recovery still there and did you take a backup before you started the upgrade?
Also sounds like you picked some asian version of MIUI which is most likely not compatible with the US Droid's hardware.
Go get a version from www.miui.us
I flashed back to stock rom using rsd and now all is good except data functionality.
I am still unable to get any data functionality. I have data included with my plan, and no connectivity between 3g/2g or even wifi. I keep getting the no connection dialog
Maybe you have to reenter the APN data.
If you have no network connection at all then maybe you have to switch the baseband to a correct one - but I have no experience with this.
Hey I was hoping someone could help shed some light on my wifi signal issue or guide me on a method to fix it. I use my wifi from my bedroom and my modem is downstairs. As soon as I changed to the below setup I continually received frequent drop outs and latency issues using VoIP apps such as Viber. I am happy to downgrade firmware if I need to but am unsure to what level.
Anyway sorry for the long details but I would rather be thorough as I am pretty unsure when it comes to a lot of this, thanks in advance!
I was running a JVR 2.3 firmware and I had to update with CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVR-v4.1-CWM3RFS (TAR file) which I did using Odin 3 ver 1.3. It took about three attempts of getting the phone caution pc sign as it kept crashing but it eventually loaded and it was finally rooted. So I dragged galaxysmtd_aosp_jb42_20121209 and gapps-jb-20121212-signed to the root folder. Booted my phone in recovery mode and did a complete wipe and installed both of the above files using CMW.
It all boots up now now with the Cyanogen intro etc and the phone's details are GT-I9000 running Android 4.2.1, baseband version I9000XXJVT, kernel version [email protected] #33, build number full_galaxysmtd-userdebug 4.2.1 JOP40Deng.pawitp.20121209.120851 test-keys.
I did some research and made sure the box was unchecked so it would allow weak wifi connections.
I also downloaded an app called Devil Kernel Manager which has a misc option to change wifi connection from power saver mode to stronger however it doesnt appear to do anything and I get the error message:
>echo 1 > /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameteres/uiFastWifi &&echo 1> /data/local/devil/wifi
[sh: <stdin>[1]: can't create /sys/module/bcmdhd/parameteres/uiFastWifi: No such file or directory, 1]
